Chapter 17
Query of the Quirk
The previous match was still on the minds of Class 1-L.
The fight was between their classmates Kai Uno and Yuki Drago. The battle was intense near the end, and it looked like Kai won the round, but then something strange happened to him.
Steam was coming out of Kai's body as the strange machine on his bare chest started blinking from green to red. However, that was all anyone can remember. The next thing that happened was that Kai just disappeared, Yuki Drago was taken to the temporary nurse's office by the robots, and nobody heard from either from them.
"Well, that last match was something, even though we don't know what happened in the end," Present Mic announced.
"Due to how the last match surprisingly ended, the Sports Festival will continue tomorrow. Also, the scheduled performance by the SMH Club will be done at the end of the tournament tomorrow due to the recent fights lasting a bit longer than expected." Eraser Head added.
"See you all tomorrow for the finale!" Present Mic stated.
After that, all the students of Class 1-L, except Junko, left the box seat and went to the temporary nurse's office to check on Kai. In the hallway, they ran into some students from Class 1-A: Midoriya, Uraraka, Tsuyu, Iida, Kirishima, Sero, and Mineta. They also wanted to see how Kai was doing, so both groups went to the temporary nurse's office together. On the way there, they saw Speed Girl waiting in the hallway, looking down.
"Miss Speed Girl!" The woman turned around to see some students running toward her. It was her entire class, including some from Class 1-A.
"Is Kai alright?" Arisa asked.
"Yeah! What happened to him, Teach?" Eli exclaimed.
"We all want to know what happened to him," Felicia said.
"We're worried too," Midoriya admitted, as his classmates nodded in agreement.
"You guys..." Speed Girl looked around them and gave them a light grin. "Thank you, all of you. Don't worry about Kai. He will be okay. His... dad and mom are taking care of him now."
"His parents, ribbit?" Tsuyu wondered.
"Yeah... I mean, yes! His parents, well my parents are helping him right now, so you all don't need to worry, but thank you for seeing me. I appreciate it very much," Speed Girl said. "Well, see you guys later and good luck to you who are still in the tournament.
Speed Girl ran away, surprising everyone. Of course, they knew that was why the people called her "Speed Girl". Her Quirk was superspeed, after all.
Though Speed Girl's strange reply and quick exit seemed suspicious, most of the students decided to take her word for it that Kai would be alright.
However, Arisa couldn't help but still feel worried for Kai.
Also, Felicia had to tell Drago, because of the favor she owes him, what happened to Kai after their match ended.
-My Hero Academia-
The group went to the temporary nurse's office to check on Yuki Drago. However, he wasn't there and the group asked Recovery Girl and Ms. Heal where he is.
The two physicians didn't know either as the robots were supposed to bring him to them. The only thing they found was a note that said Yuki Drago is in good hands and will be taken care of by other physicians for them. The strange part was the note was signed by Time Lord.
That sufficed for Recovery Girl and Ms. Heal that Yuki Drago would be well taken care of. Then the group left the temporary nurse's office.
With nothing else to do now, Class 1-L and the students from Class 1-A with them decided to eat at a nearby, local fast-food restaurant together.
Felicia had Arisa stay back as she quickly had to tell her something, as the others began leaving.
"Arisa, I'll meet up with you and the others a little later. There's something I have to do," Felicia told her.
"Oh, um, okay. I'll see you later at the restaurant then," Arisa replied as she left to catch up with the others.
'I wonder what Felicia has to do. And I hope Kai really is alright,' Arisa thought, still worried for her classmate.
'I have to find Drago and tell him what happened,' Felicia thought as she went to search for him.
-My Hero Academia-
Once outside of the stadium, Felicia went running around to look for Drago. She asked some passersby if they saw him, but they said they didn't.
After ten minutes of searching, she took a break and got a water bottle from a vending machine outside of Gym Gamma.
'I will take a quick drink and rest a bit before I keep searching for Drago,' Felicia thought as she drank a bit of water while walking.
However, when she got to a nearby bench, she did a spit-take because of who was there: Yuki Drago unconscious.
"Drago?" Felicia gasped in surprised as she dropped her bottle and stopped coughing from the spit take.
"Is he okay?" She wondered aloud as she saw him lying on the bench.
Almost hearing her words, Drago groaned a bit as he opened his eyes and saw he was outside.
"You're awake!" Felicia was glad as Drago looked at her and sat upon the bench.
"Marvell? What happened? Where am I?" He asked her as he wiped his eyes.
"Right now, we're outside of Gym Gamma. After your match against Kai, something happened to him and he just disappeared. You weren't in the nurse's office so I had to come to find you." Felicia explained.
"Oh? Well, I suppose you know more about what happened to Kai after the match ended," Drago assumed.
"Yes, I do. But, where have you been?" Felicia asked.
"I will explain about that in a bit, but I need you to ask around if someone saw something out of the ordinary because I am a bit groggy," Drago answered.
"Well, alright," Felicia accepted hesitantly.
"I will get a water bottle before I go," She decided.
Felicia got another water bottle from the vending machine for Drago and gave it to him. He took a drink and got some rest as she went to ask some people about seeing something strange.
"Let me see if this is correct. So, you all say you saw a big truck with an atomic symbol drive through the parking lot near the stadium?" Felicia asked some people.
Two men, two women, a hot dog vendor, a pretzel seller, and Stan Lee confirmed with a nod.
"We sure did, kid," Stan Lee said.
"Okay, thank you all for your time," Felicia thanked them as she left to meet up with Drago.
When she got there, she saw that he finished the water bottle and stood up to throw it out.
"Drago, I found some interesting information," Felicia said.
"Good," Drago commented.
"Also, I think our classmates and some students from Class 1-A would also be interested in hearing what we found out. Perhaps we should tell them too," Felicia suggested, which Drago thought about.
"Very well, we can tell them. Where are there?" Drago asked.
"They're at a fast-food restaurant nearby the high school," She replied.
"I know where that is. Follow me, and on the way there, we can discuss what we know," Drago led the way.
"Alright," Felicia complied as she followed him.
-My Hero Academia-
Later, most of Class 1-L and some members of Class 1-A just finished eating at the local fast-food restaurant nearby UA High. The members of Class 1-A there not only had those that were with Class 1-L before, but also Denki Kaminari, Mina Ashido, Toru Hagakure, and Momo Yaoyorozu.
"Phew! What a good meal!" Eli was satisfied as he put his feet on the table. "Eating food is the way to go after a good round."
"Eli, don't put your dirty shoes on the table like that!" Iida scolded him. "That's very rude and unsanitary!"
"Just relax, man. You and I will duke it out tomorrow. By the way, you have ketchup on the side of your mouth," He pointed out.
"Gah! You are right!" He gasped. "I shall wipe it immediately!"
Iida grabbed a handkerchief out of his pocket and wiped the ketchup off his mouth. Seeing this, Uraraka spat out and laughed.
"Bwah! You have a handkerchief!" Uraraka laughed.
"What's so wrong about that? Of course, a gentleman always has his handkerchief ready in a situation like this!" He stated.
"She's laughing at you for being so neat bro," Eli pointed out.
"Wish Bakugo or Todoroki was here," Kirishima admitted. "I asked both of them to come, but the former just yelled at me, and the latter just, well, ignored me."
"That sucks, but it's their loss," Kaminari said.
"I also tried to Junko, but strangely, I couldn't find her," Miru added.
"Perhaps she went home and went to bed. Then again, she is always sleeping," Ai commented, making some of them laugh about it.
"I was being serious..." Ai murmured.
As everyone was enjoying each other's company, Arisa was in deep thought, looking a bit gloomy.
'What happened to Kai after his match against Yuki Drago? And where did Felicia go?' Arisa thought.
Usagi and Tsuyu noticed Arisa's gloom.
"Hey, Arisa." Usagi's words snapped Arisa out of her thought.
"What's the matter?" Usagi asked her.
"Oh, I am sorry! I...I'm just still wondering if Kai is indeed okay," Arisa said, catching everyone's attention, causing the happy chatter of friends to become a cold silence.
"Well..." Eli spoke up. "I am sure he will be fine! I mean, his big sister, our Teach said so. He's with his parents now, so he should be fine by now!"
"But that isn't the only thing I am wondering about him," Arisa said. "That look on his face... and that strange machine on his chest... I've been wondering about that since his match."
Everyone remembered it well. They didn't know what it is, and they also wanted to know more about it as much as Arisa does.
"You know," Everyone turned to Midoriya. "I had the same thought too."
"Really?" Arisa asked.
"Yeah..." Midoriya admitted. "As a matter of fact, since his match with Drago, I've been wondering more specifically about Kai's Quirk."
"His Quirk?" Uraraka wondered.
"Yes!" Midoriya said. "His Quirk. From what I saw in his match, it was powerful enough to blow those fires that Yuki Drago made. Kai's body glowed in this green aura, and steam was coming out of his body. Whatever his Quirk is, it must be immensely powerful, and I think that strange machine thing on his chest must be some kind of suppressor or something that controls his power."
"That sounds very analytical Midoriya," Iida admitted. "Now I am curious about Kai Uno's Quirk."
"So you think the weird thing on Kai's chest is some kind of suppressor for his Quirk? Then, I wonder why he has it?" Usagi wondered.
"That is the other thing I was thinking about, and I think it's most likely due to his Quirk being too strong to control even for himself," Midoriya thought aloud.
"Then... I wonder, if what you say is true, Midoriya, then that means Kai has a Quirk that is too dangerous," Arisa said, looking more worried than before.
That made the entire group look more concerned and even more silent to the point of depression.
That was when a door opened, meaning another customer for the restaurant.
"Oh! I had a feeling you guys would still be here," Everyone turned their attention to the people who just entered.
"Felicia! And Yuki Drago!?" Everyone gasped, surprising Felicia, yet Yuki had a stone face.
"Blimey! What's wrong with you all? You surprised me!" Felicia exclaimed.
"Sorry, but we were just talking about Kai and trying to figure out what kind of Quirk he has!" Arisa admitted.
"Oh! Well, that is the reason why I came here with him," Felicia said, looking over at Yuki who looked back.
"Yo, Yuki dude! Are you feeling alright?" Eli asked.
"You were taken away by the infirmary robots, right? But we didn't find you there! We even asked Recovery Girl and the assistant nurse, but they didn't tell us anything because they don't know where you went!" Usagi complained.
"..." Yuki Drago just stared at them, and everyone stared back at him.
"... I am sorry to make you all worry," Yuki Drago apologized.
"That took long enough to respond," Tatsumi commented with a sweat-drop.
"I will explain what happened to me, and also... about Kai's Quirk," Yuki stated.
'I wonder what Drago knows about Kai's Quirk. And why is Felicia with him?' Arisa thought.
Everyone sat quietly and watched Yuki Drago, looking full of anticipation about his match with Kai Uno.
Yuki Drago took his extra-large cup of soda, punched his straw on top, and started drinking through it.
Kirishima looked a bit impatient. "Hey, not to put pressure on you, but could you tell us exactly what happened between you and Kai already?"
"Kirishima, let Drago finish his drink first!" Iida scolded his classmate.
"I just finished it," Yuki Drago said, shaking his cup which made a cracking noise of ice cubes hitting each other, indicating that there was no more soda inside it.
"That was fast!" Ashido exclaimed.
"Holy Carrot!" Usagi gasped.
"Let me start from the beginning," Yuki started.
Flashback
"Let the match begin!" Midnight declared as the spectators cheered for the third round to begin.
"It started normally. I allowed Kai to make the first move, making him ram towards me and grabbed my waist. I didn't put all my strength into it, so I allowed him to push me almost to the edge of the arena," Yuki explained.
"Why would you do that?" Usagi asked.
"Well..." Yuki showed a smirk. "I wanted to see how strong Kai is and expected him to use his Quirk."
"Oh! I see... So that is why you purposely made yourself look like you were going to lose," Midoriya analyzed.
"However, I quickly saw it! He was purposely going to slip himself out of bounds to lose on purpose!" Yuki stated.
"Wait, what?!" Uraraka gasped.
"Holy Carrot?! He was going to lose on purpose?!" Usagi asked.
"Oh my..." Arisa was surprised. "So that is why he tripped and almost got out of the arena."
"Because of that, I stopped him by grabbing his leg with my tail. I admit that I got very angry and upset, so I retaliated," Yuki admitted. "Through doing that, I thought that would force him to rely on his Quirk to fight back, and my plan worked ... However, it worked too well."
End Flashback
"And of course, you all know the rest of the story," Yuki said.
"But that doesn't quite answer what Kai's Quirk is, ribbit," Tsuyu wondered.
"So true... " Miru thought aloud.
"However, I can say this. Kai's Quirk, his power and ability, is no normal Quirk. It is very powerful, and I have a clue what it is," he said.
"What is it, dude? Don't keep us in the dark, bro!" Eli stated.
"After the match ended, I was taken to the infirmary, or so I thought I was. Actually, I was taken to somewhere else, a truck," he answered.
"A truck," Iida repeated.
"This truck had a strange machine, and people were wearing a white suit with yellow gloves," Yuki explained. "They shined a light over my body using the strange machine. They were checking my body for something. That was when I found out what they were doing, who they were, and what Kai's Quirk is."
Everyone paid close attention, and only Midoriya gulped deeply.
"His Quirk... It is to do with nuclear radiation," Drago revealed.
"Nuclear Radiation?!" Everyone said at the same time.
"The strange machine that these weird people in suits used weren't normal nurses. They were real-life people who study nuclear energy I'm guessing. Perhaps nuclear physicists," Yuki guessed.
"I investigated this further after I met up with Yuki a while ago," Felicia said, grabbing everyone's attention. "Apparently, some people at the food vendors did notice a big truck with an atomic symbol drove through the parking lot near the stadium."
"No way... Our classmate is a living nuclear power plant!" Usagi exclaimed.
"Whoa! A radioactive-powered Quirk ... I've never heard of anything like it before!" Eli admitted.
"That sounds... amazing," Momo revealed.
"But isn't, like, nuclear energy dangerous? You know, like the whole radiation thing?" Toru questioned.
"I think I'm understanding more things about Kai," Midoriya said. "The machine with the lens on his chest is a suppressor. It must be to suppress his nuclear energy, and when it was blinking red at the end of the fight, it must have meant that he was using too much of it."
"I was thinking the same thing, too," Felicia agreed. "Adding to that, I think the blinking red light also means that his power has reached a critical level or near it, indicating danger."
"Are you two saying that whatever happened today, Kai could've just... Exploded?!" Eli exclaimed.
"Holy Carrot! Kai is a nuclear bomb!" Usagi gasped.
"That's... such a terrifying Quirk! And the evidence is strong," Iida said.
"Now that you mention it, Kai Uno hasn't said anything about his Quirk or show it off until today," Tatsumi said. "Plus, he's always been kind of the weirdest one in our class."
"Maybe he was hiding his Quirk all this time so that we wouldn't be worried or scared of him or worse," Makoto pointed out.
"Poor Kai..." Everyone looked at Arisa, who looked sad. "He must have been in pain for a long, long time. Hiding his Quirk... Knowing that it is dangerous..."
"I don't know about the danger, but as I said, his Quirk may be the most powerful one in the entire school or perhaps even in the entire world," Yuki said.
"So, now that we may know his Quirk, the question is what had happened to him and where is he now?" Ai asked.
Everyone looked quiet, seldom, and sort of sad, Nobody did know the answer to those questions. The only thing they can do now was going home and get ready for the second day of the Sports Festival, especially for those who are still in the tournament.
-My Hero Academia-
After mostly everyone left the restaurant, Drago wanted to talk with Felicia for a bit. She told Arisa to go ahead of her back to the Emerald Shade and she would catch up. Arisa, still a bit sad about Kai, nodded in agreement as she left for the hotel.
Felicia and Drago were outside the restaurant, sitting at a bench and with a street light above them.
"What did you want to talk about?" Felicia questioned.
"I would like to say thank you for helping me out with figuring out Kai's Quirk and for finding me," Drago thanked her, which surprised her a bit.
"Oh, you're welcome. That's what friends are for," Felicia replied, which caught Drago off guard surprisingly.
"Wait, we are friends?" Drago asked.
"After everything we did today, I would think we are," Felicia reasoned.
"I guess we can be," Drago decided as he got up. "I will be heading back home now."
"Me too," Felicia got up too.
"Before you go, I will give you my phone number because I do not if I will continue in the tournament or not," Drago stated.
"Okay," Felicia agreed as they both exchanged phone numbers.
"Well, good night, Felicia," Drago said, which surprised her.
"Good night to you too, Yuki," Felicia replied, as he nodded in agreement.
'It looks like he does think of me as a friend,' Felicia thought as they went their separate ways.
-My Hero Academia-
Back at the Emerald Shade, Felicia was about to head to her room when she saw Arisa in the hallway, waiting for her.
"Arisa, were you waiting for me?" Felicia questioned her.
"Yes, I wanted to talk to you," Arisa answered.
"About what?" Felicia asked.
"Why didn't you tell me about you helping Drago to find out about Kai's Quirk?" Arisa asked sadly.
"Well, I wanted to get the argument I had with Yuki out of the way so neither of us would have any grudges with each other. But he was stubborn about it so I suggested I do him a favor in exchange for him letting the argument go. He agreed, and later on, he told me to keep an eye on Kai during their match and to meet up with him after the match. I assumed he wanted to keep it a secret so that is why I didn't tell you, " Felicia explained.
"Oh, well that makes sense," Arisa accepted. "Wait, Yuki? Are you two friends now?"
"Yes, I guess we are," Felicia responded.
"Anyway, how are you doing? I heard from the others that you've been worried about Kai," she questioned Arisa.
The change of subject surprised Arisa.
"It's just that he's a good friend is all," Arisa replied hastily. "And I can understand what he's going through in a way,"
"What do you mean?" Felicia asked curiously.
"I would rather not talk about it," Arisa replied sadly.
"Okay then," Felicia accepted. "After today, I'm tired so I will go to bed now."
"Me too. Good night Felicia," Arisa said.
"Good night Arisa," Felicia said too.
Both girls went to their rooms to ready for bed.
Arisa was getting ready for bed when she got some text messages.
From her friends Sadie and Gabriel, they told her she did great in the first two stages of the Sports Festival and they understood why she wasn't in the Tournament Battle. From her parents, they and her little brothers thought she was amazing at the festival and to keep up the great work.
Arisa smiled from those nice texts and sent some thanks texts before getting into bed.
In her room, Felicia was about to go to bed she got some text messages too.
From her friends Cordelia and William, they told her she did a smashing job in the first two stages and they also understood why she wasn't in the third stage. From her parents, they told her she did incredible at the festival and are proud of her.
Felicia smiled from those touching texts and sent some thank texts before going to sleep.
Then both girls slept as they would need it. For tomorrow is the final day of the Sports Festival.
