Disclaimer: I do not own Person of Interest or Danny Phantom. I'm just borrowing their characters.

AN: I'm using Bailee Madison as the face claim for Danielle.

AN2: I am so sorry it took so long to get this out. I stopped working on this to work on a few other stories, plus I got busy with work, and time just slipped away from me! And then I wound up catching Covid and did not have the energy or will power to write for anything for a while after that. But I'm better now, and have found a bit of a muse for this story once more!

Phantom of Interest

Chapter Seven: Stormy tidings

Third Person P.O.V.

The next morning

Dani groaned as consciousness returned to her. Her head hurt, and her eyes felt itchy, and the sun light hitting her face wasn't helping any. She rubbed her eyes and sat up, glancing around the room blearily for a moment. And then the events from the previous day came rushing back to her and she groaned, flopping back to lie on the couch.

"Well, this is just peachy," She muttered.

A whine came from next to her, and then a cold nose was pressing into her side. Dani glanced down to find Bear staring up at her, and she gently patted his head.

"I can not believe I cried in front of them, damn panic attacks," Dani grumbled, running her fingers through Bear's fur.

She sighed, and sat up once more, glancing around her. The room was a mess. The round table that was in the middle of room was over turned, and the books that had been sitting on top of it were now strewn all over the floor. Dani cringed as she saw how the books laid on the floor haphazardly, some of the books pages bent. If there was one thing Sam had taught her, it was that books were to be respected and taken care of.

Dani gently patted Bear on the head, then stood up and moved towards the over turned table. She righted the table, and began picking up the books, setting them carefully on the table. Once that was done she glanced around the room once more, and found that the gate that Reese had shut and locked last night was open. She could smell pancakes and bacon drifting through the library, coming from the direction of the main room. Her stomach growled at the thought of eating something more than just apples, Banana's, and peaches.

She never really stole much from the stores, just a few fruits here and there from different stores every day. She knew she needed food, both for herself and the other homeless people in New York, but she felt bad about stealing. So, she only stole small non expensive things. Which meant she didn't really eat much, not unless she stopped by Amity Park. And she hadn't had bacon in ages, not since the last time she visited the Fenton's almost a year ago. Her stomach growled once more and she frowned.

She could take this moment to leave and go back to the home she'd made for herself, or she could stick around here for a little bit and get some actual food. Dani groaned as her stomach rumbled again.

'It can't hurt to grab something to eat on the way out,' Dani thought, moving towards the gate.

She quietly moved through the library, Bear by her side. She could hear Reese and Finch talking in the main area of the library, and she hesitated as she reached the row of shelfs right before the main area. She peeked around the shelf and out into the room. Finch was sitting at the round table in the center of the room, typing away on his computers. Reese was sitting in a chair at the other end of the table, eating some bacon.

There was three white take out containers sitting on the table, one in front of Reese, one in front of Finch, and one sitting in the middle of the table untouched. Behind Reese she spotted the see through board that had had her picture taped up to it not too long ago. Only now there was a picture of a woman taped up to the board along with several other documents on the woman and her life. How the hell did they get all this info on her? And why did they gather this stuff in the first place? Suddenly Bear barked, and raced passed her into the room and up to Reese. Reese smiled at the dog, and gently ran his fingers through the dogs fur.

"You going to come out from behind the shelf and get some food, or are you gonna stand there all day?" Reese asked, looking over at Dani.

Dani frowned, but moved out into the middle of the room, grabbed the last container of food, and sat in the chair farthest from Reese and Finch. Her stomach rumbled once more as she opened up the container. There were two pancakes and four slices of bacon inside, and her mouth watered at the sight. She snatched the bacon out of the container and quickly devoured it. She ignored the plastic fork that was in the container, and ate the pancakes with her hands. She was halfway through her second pancake when she glanced up from her food and saw Reese and Finch watching her.

"What?" She questioned, eyes narrowing.

"When's the last time you ate something more than fruit?" Reese questioned back.

She scowled at him, taking another bite of her pancake, and shrugged her shoulders. She wasn't about to tell either of them anything about herself unless she absolutely had to. She decided to ignore the two of them and go back to eating her food. She heard Reese sigh, but she continued to eat her food without looking at him or Finch. It didn't take her long to finish off the last bit of her food, and she stared sadly down at the now empty food container. That was the best meal she's had since her last trip to visit the Fenton's.

And she really wasn't looking forward to going back to eating nothing but fruits and small things that she could steal from the grocery store. She frowned and closed up the box and sat it down on the table. Suddenly something landed at her feet in front of her and she stared at the object for half a second before it registered in her brain that she was staring at her duffle bag. The duffle bag that she kept all of her clothes and personal items in. The duffle bag that she'd left sitting in her little room in the warehouse. She stared at the bag for a second, then glanced up at Reese who was staring at her with a look she couldn't decipher.

"I figured you'd want a change of clothes after sleeping in those ones all night," He stated, shrugging his shoulders.

She stared at him for a moment more, then glanced down at her duffle bag once more. She felt like her brain had stalled.

"You…"

She paused unsure as what to say. She wasn't sure if she should be angry, annoyed, or confused. Hell, maybe she should be all three. She scowled and snatched the bag up off the floor, then sent the man sitting in front of her a scathing look.

"So, you follow me around for a whole day because you somehow know that I'm in danger. Then after shooting several people in the knees, which was highly unnecessary I might add. And then you basically kidnap me because you refuse to let me sleep in the warehouse that I've been sleeping in just fine with no problems at all for some time now. And now you've gone and snatched my stuff from my home," Dani growled, standing up.

"Told you, you're not going back to that warehouse. Figured I'd grab your things for you while I was out getting food," Reese replied.

"Like I said, I've been living there for some time now and haven't had much of a problem. What's your deal? Seriously what exactly do you have against me staying there anyway?" Dani questioned.

"That place is practically falling apart. There's no heating or air conditioning. You're a kid living on your own and from the way you devoured that food a few minutes ago, I'd say you haven't eaten a substantial meal in a while. No matter how much you may think you can take care of yourself on your own, you obviously can't," Reese stated.

"I have been taking care of myself since I was twelve. I've been on my own since then, and I'm still alive. I was doing just fine before you showed up, and I'll do just fine after you leave too," Dani shouted, flinging the duffle over her shoulder.

She didn't need either of these men to look after her. She'd never actually needed anyone. She'd always been fine on her own. And she was annoyed that these two men thought they could just waltz into her life and start making decisions for her, and act like they knew or cared about her.

Sure, she'd always wanted a family. Parents who would treat her the way the Fenton parents treated Danny and Jazz. But she wasn't meant to have that. She was just some lab experiment that didn't even turn out right. And yeah sure the Fenton's had said they wanted her to be part of their family, but she knew that that would never work out. She was a clone of Danny. A constant reminder of just how far off the deep end Jack and Maddie's old college buddy had gone. And living with them would have been a constant reminder for her of just how much of a freak she really was, and of all the crap she'd been through with Vlad.

So, staying with them was a definite no go. So, she'd accepted that she was never going to have a family. That she would just have to look out for herself. And she'd been doing just fine on her own. And now these two wanted to come in and act like they cared, when they didn't even know her. Tell her what she could and couldn't do. Well fuck that! She'd do what she'd always done, look after herself. She turned on the spot and started for the door that would lead to the stairs out of the building. A hand wrapped gently around her arm and tugged her back.

"How many times do I have to tell you, no fucking man handling!" She hissed, turning to face Reese while trying to yank her arm free of his grip.

But he held onto her arm with a firm grip. She scowled up at him, and a short staring match ensued. Neither one was willing to budge. Dani didn't want to give in, she was stubborn like that. And Reese wasn't about to let her go off on her own and go back to living on the streets, and he was just as stubborn. They where at a stalemate. And Finch was just sitting at his computer, typing away and ignoring the two of them. Though he did occasionally glanced over at the two of them. Dani felt like smashing her head into a wall.

"Why the hell do you two even care anyway?" Dani finally asked after several minutes.

"Because you're a kid who needs help," Reese replied.

She frowned at that.

"Well, I don't need help. Thanks for the concern, but I'm good," Dani grumbled, attempting to leave once more.

But once again Reese stopped her. He pulled her back to the seat she'd been sitting in, pushing her to sit back down, and once more cuffed her to the chair.

"Dude! What the hell is your problem?!" Dani shouted angrily, yanking at the cuffs a couple times.

She scowled up at Reese, who was now ignoring her as he picked up his suit jacket.

"Finch I'm heading out. I'll be back with dinner later," Reese stated, heading towards the steps.

"Hey, wait, you can't just leave me here cuffed to this damn chair," Dani shouted after him.

Reese ignored her and left, heading off to work on save or stopping their newest number. Dani growled in frustration and slumped back in the seat she was cuffed to. She could phase through them and just leave, but she didn't want to use her powers in front of Finch, so she was stuck. She'd just have to wait and bide her time until they left her alone to make her escape.

"So, what the hell do I do if I have to go to the bathroom?" Dani groused, scowling at Finch.

Finch paused in his typing and glanced over at her.

"I have a key to the cuffs. If you actually need to use the bathroom I can let you out and show you to the bathroom," Finch answered.

"And then what, you're just gonna re-cuff me to this chair afterwards until Reese gets back?"

Finch didn't bother to answer her, he just went back to typing. Dani spent the rest of the day sulking in her chair listening in on Finch and Reese's conversations. At one point she thought she was going to have to use her powers to dip out of the library and go save Reese and the number. But Reese managed to handle it on his own and get himself and the number out of trouble. Then finally around 6pm Reese finally came back to the library.

Dani refused to speak to him, when he handed her a take out box with a burger and fries in it. She just scowled at him as he uncuffed her then sat down in his seat with his own food. Dani quickly ate her food, shooting nasty looks at Reese between bites. Reese on the other hand ate his food slowly and ignored the looks Dani was giving him. When the two of them where finished eating Reese ushered Dani back to the room she slept in the night before. She stopped just outside the room, staring in at it with distaste and a dash of fear.

"I won't shut the gate, go on and get some sleep," Reese assured, gently shoving her into the room.

She scowled back at him for a moment before trudging into the room. Once she'd flopped down on the couch and made herself look comfortable, Reese left, going back to the main room of the library. Dani sat on the couch for ten minutes, wanting to make sure that Reese wasn't coming back. Once she was sure he wasn't coming back she quickly went ghost, snatched up her duffle bag, and dashed through the wall and outside.

At some point between Reese coming back to the library, and him seeing her off to bed it had started to rain, hard. The wind wiped around her and would have sent her flying back into the building behind her if she wasn't intangible. Lightning flashed in the sky, and thunder rumbled in the distance. The rain was coming down in sheets and Dani could barely see anything through it.

"Oh great, this is just what I needed. Weather to match my mood," Dani grumbled, dashing through the sky towards her warehouse.

It only took her few minutes to speed through the air and to her warehouse. She moved through the walls of the warehouse and made a beeline for the small office that she'd designated as her room. Her cot and sleeping bag was still where she left them thankfully.

"At least he only grabbed my duffel bag and left the rest of my stuff alone," Dani stated, shifted back to her human form.

Dani pulled out a pair of PJs from her bag and changed quickly, wanting to lie down and get some sleep. Just as she was getting ready to flop down on her cot she heard a loud creaking noise. She paused, glancing around her trying to figure out what the noise was. She glanced out the door of the office looking to see if maybe someone was lurking in the warehouse, but didn't see anyone. She was about to pass it off as nothing when she heard another creak, this one much louder then the last one.

"The hell?" Dani muttered.

There was another loud creak above her and Dani looked up at the sound just in time to see the ceiling and wall collapsing in on her. She didn't have enough time to go intangible, and the ceiling and wall slammed into her, sending her falling to the floor. Her head cracked against the concrete and black spots appeared in her vision. Pain flared through her whole body and she groaned and attempted to sit up but was unable to because of a beam that had her pinned down.

Her head was spinning to much for her to concentrate enough to use her intangibility to get out from underneath the beam. There was another loud creak, and then another part of the ceiling fell down landing on her leg with a crack. Dani screamed, pain shooting up and down her leg, leaving her feeling like she was going to throw up. Her vision swam, and then everything went black…

AN: Another reason it took so long to get this chapter out is cause I kind of wrote myself into a corner. I wanted to have Dani ready to stay with Reese and Finch in this chapter so that the next chapter could be an episode chapter, but Dani was not working with me at all. Every time I tried to write her deciding to stay she would go in the other direction because she's stubborn as hell. I just couldn't see her giving in and staying with Reese and Finch and letting take care of her without a really good reason for it. It's just not how I'd written her. And that gave me major writers block. And then the other day while at work I was thinking about this story and how annoyed I was that I couldn't get the chapter written out and then suddenly my brain just went "well why don't you just drop a building on her?" And thus, the ending of this chapter happened.
