Lawson was Kree?
The Trio walked down the halls until they came across a perculiar sight, an orange cat all by itself.
Yorgoth eyed him for a second. Uncannily it came up to him and start nuzzling its head against his. "Okay. You can scurry now," he tried to usher the cat away but it wouldn't move. He bent down. "Look can you just…" he squeezed his eyes closed and folded his lips in when the cat started licking his face.
Vers giggled.
"This is disgusting. I think I might have your saliva in my mouth," he groaned.
Vers laughed louder.
"It's not funny Vers," he moaned angrily.
"Looks like you have become a cat person," Fury bent down pet the cat who came up to him. "What's your name kitty?" he lifted up the golden tag. "Goose? Ahh. What an intriguing name,"
Yorgoth crossed his eyebrows. "Who calls their cat 'Goose'?"
"I don't know but we should get going," Vers spoke up again. The pair waddled further on but they noticed Fury hadn't joined them.
"Come on Fury," Yorgoth called. "That's enough petting for one day,"
They reached a door that second Records with the same Pegasus symbol. Once again it required a thumb print.
"Let me take care of that," Fury said, pulling out the sticky tape. "Just let me unravel this puppy,"
Just then Vers blasted the lock, opening the door.
"You sat there, and watched me play with tape?" Fury asked.
"Didn't want to spoil your thunder," she remarked.
"Pity. I was looking to watching Nick's cool trick again," complimented Yorgoth. They entered the dark room. "How do you get the lights on?"
A flash vroomed and the room lit up row by row revealing shelves.
"Wow. That's impressive," he said. "Wonder why that type of circuit doesn't exist in Kree,"
They walked along the rows looking for the section for the records beginning with L.
"Ahh…" Yorgoth raised his voice excitedly pulling out a folder. "Lawson," he turned to his team. "I told you I'd find it,"
"Oh ha ha," Vers retorted back. "Can we get searching?"
They started reading through the files. They pulled out papers and huge chalk drawings. Together Yorgoth and Vers
"Lawson's plan for the light speed engine," Vers said.
"Look at this," Yorgoth pointed to a word stamped in red ink. 'Terminated' "Why did Pegasus end the project?"
"Maybe…because she was cuckoo," Fury said. He held up a notebook written in strange words.
Yorgoth took it and quick analysed the writing. "This is Kree glyphs," he felt his heart leaping into his throat. "Lawson was kree,"
"It's not possible," Vers denied. "A Kree would never live on Earth,"
"See for yourself," Yorgoth handed her the notebook. As he did, a photo slipped out the pages and fell onto the floor. He bent down and picked it up. He glanced at it. It was the same woman whose form the Supreme Intelligence takes.
It must be Lawson.
What really attracted his attention was the little baby in her hands. It had red hair like his and dark eyes, almost like a certain mentor's.
"Seems Lawson has a kid," he stated.
As he spoke, Fury gave him a careful glance, not unnoticed by Vers.
"We need to find them," he said.
"It's impossible to do that," Fury spoke up.
"What?" questioned Vers.
"They're dead," he sadly spoke back.
"What?" both Kree soldiers said together in deep shock.
"She crashed the Asis aircraft doing an unauthorized test flight. Along with two pilots. One of them was her son,"
"Oj my," breathed a horrified Vers.
"That's why security is so unfriendly," Fury continued. "They're trying to cover up a billion-dollar mistake,"
"No wonder they don't exactly invite strangers into these kinds of rooms," Yorgoth said, his eyes still glued to the picture. He couldn't explain why but he felt really drawn to the image.
"The light speed engine was also toasted," a sad Fury lifted up a black and white satellite photo of a crash site with circles which Yorgoth knew could only have been caused by a bomb explosion.
"When did this crash happen?" asked Vers, who looked over more and more black and white photos of the crash site to try and identify clues.
"Six years ago. 1989,"
"Who was the other pilot?"
Fury didn't answer.
"Okay Fury. Spit it out," Yorgoth demanded.
"Spit what?" he innocently retorted.
"You're hiding something,"
Before Fury could answer to his skeptical face, he heard a beeping from his pocket. "Please just excuse me for a sec. Just need to take this,"
"Who is it?" Vers demanded.
"Just my mum. I'll be right back," Fury dashed off before they could stop him.
"I don't trust him," Yorgoth turned to Vers. "He's hiding something. Yes he might have seen us once. But what does he know about us?"
"Just keeping looking through the files," Vers said. "There's gotta something in here that can give us more clues,"
They kept scavenging through the papers. Just then Vers found a photo of the same black haired girl from the picture Fury showed to her and her partner back in the car. She looked at the testimonial clipped to it. "Maria Rambeau," pulling out another document like that, she saw another photo. "Joel Danvers," she read. "Last people to see the pilots alive,"
"I'd like to know more about this kid Lawson had," Yorgoth spoke up. "There's gotta be more,"
They kept looking through more photos. Vers found a larger one. The moment she laid eyes on it, her eyes enlarged, her lips partered, a cold quiver coiled down her spine.
Yorgoth noticed her pale look. "You alright?"
Vers neither answered or moved.
"What's wrong?" he asked again. "Vers! What's wrong?!" he didn't mean to shout.
Vers handed the photo over to him.
The moment he looked at it. He stood back in shock and dropped the coloured photo, keeping his eyes glued to it as it fell to the floor. It was him. With Lawson in pilot suits.
Vers tried to touch his shoulder but he shuddered.
"That woman cannot be my mother," he breathed out hoarsely.
"I'm sorry Yorgoth but…"
"No! It can't be true!" Yorgoth wanted to deny everything about this woman. Talos telling him he knew his mother, Lawson appeared to him in his dreams, this photo…
"There's no denying it," Vers tried to be soft and gentle. "And look," she took the little card from his fingers, the one of him as a baby being held by Lawson. "That baby looks exactly like you,"
Yorgoth wanted to hold back tears but he couldn't.
"Get more prepared," Vers spoke sadly, her voice full of grief and shock too. She revealed another photo and it was them right in front of the light speed engine plane. "We were the pilots who went down with her,"
Just then a flashback rang through Yorgoth's head. It's not about fighting wars. It's about ending them. I know you and your girl will do what is right my son.
Yorgoth turned his back and stomped away trying to get away from everything.
"Yorgoth!" Vers stumbled after him. He ignored her cries. "Yorgoth!" he managed to get ahead of her and disappear.
For a long while Vers searched for him in that large room filled with the facts which he could no longer deny.. Her searched ended back in the same long corridor and there he was, hunched on the floor breathing heavily. Goose was nearby, nuzzling him but he ignored his acts of affection.
As her step sounds intensified as she came closer to him, he didn't turn. Vers squatted down, reached forward a gentle hand, and clasped his hands.
"I'm so sorry," she apologised profusely. "I know this is a lot to take in, but there's no denying it,"
"How did Talos know so much about me?" he demanded.
"I don't know," she shook her head. "I wish I could let you recover but we don't have the time. We have to keep going with what we started,"
Yorgoth turned to her and saw the determination in her eyes. He managed to raise his spirits a little. "Okay. But once this is done, I'm going to find answers,"
"I think I know where you can get them," Vers emitted an encouraging smile.
They went to a phone and much to their luck, they were able to contact Yon-Rogg. "Ahh I see you've decided to contact again, after you disobeyed orders," his unimpressed voice flung at his mentees.
"You know we have no choice," Yorgoth spoke back, a little bitterly.
"Vers, what's wrong with your partner?" Yon-Rogg demanded.
"We're telling you Lawson was Kree," Vers answered back, discarding the question. "She was here on C-53 and died in a plane crash,"
"And we've just found out, she's my mother," Yorgoth spat. "Do you know anything about this?"
On his ship, Yon-Rogg seemed rather conflict. "I know that a mission report was sent from C-53. There's only so much l wish to tell you two but…"
"But what?!" snapped Yorgoth. "You must have known she was my mother,"
"Lawson was undercover Kree operative named Mar-Vell. She was working on a unique energy core. Experimenting with tech that apparently could help us win the war,"
"Any good reason why you didn't tell us this sooner?" Vers demanded.
"We're a team! You're not supposed to keep secrets like that," Yorgoth was incredibly angry. "Did your mission report happen to mention me or her?"
"Of course not. Why?"
"We found evidence that we had a life here," Vers answered. "With people…people that we…loved,"
"Look…we're closing near the jump point," Yorgoth spoke up. "Leave your beacon on so we can find you,"
"If this is another excuse for you to end this conversation, it is not," Yon-Rogg snapped.
"I will not be talked to like that," their mentor warned.
"You do not keep secrets like that from people who trust you,"
"Remember your training young boy,"
"If my mother was Kree and I was raised here on Earth, why didn't she tell me?"
"Her actions speak louder than words. She wanted to protect you," Yon-Rogg spoke solemnly.
"I had a right to know," Yorgoth was close to tears.
"Remember that you may be your worse enemy. Put your people first before your emotions,"
Yorgoth just said glumly. "Alright,"
The call ended.
Yorgoth turned his back and shot a photon blast at the wall in anger. "Arrgghhhhh!" he growled. "Who does he think he is to keep secrets like that?"
"You're not the only one who's mad at him," Vers said next.
Before any of them could say anything else, they heard footsteps. Vers pushed Yorgoth behind a corner and they peered out. They saw men heading into separate rooms.
"Are you kidding me?" Yorgoth complained, knowing exactly who they were.
"He is just so unpredictable," Vers hissed.
"How are we goanna get out?" he was beginning to panic if he's the son of Lawson who they're after than they'll want him.
Just then, they saw Fury appear out the elevator with the men.
The moment he appeared Yorgoth narrowed his eyebrows. "What has he done?"
Vers pulled him along the corridor.
"Vers, what are you?"
Vers blasted a hole in the ceiling with a blast of her hand. "Come on!" she leaped up.
Rolling his eyes, Yorgoth jumped up after her. They dashed along the corridors of the giant archive room and they saw a man about to strike down Fury.
Vers shot a blast out her fist and the man was knocked off. Fury got up and chased after them.
"We gotta go. The Skrulls are here?"
"You called them?!" Vers shouted.
"My bad," he said in guilt.
Yorgoth shoved him against the wall. "My bad'!" he bellowed. "That's all you can say! 'My bad'!"
"There's no time for this!" Vers pulled him off. "Come on!" They rushed to the stairs. They were about to exit the door when a man appeared from down the stairs.
They stared at him. They were caught.
"They're not down here," the man unexpectantly shouted up, problably to his men. He ran up.
"Phew," breathed Fury. "Come on,"
They barged through the main doors and Yorgoth grabbed a pipe to wedge them shut. In a flash, he held up a hand in front of Fury's face. "Give it,"
"Give you what?"
"Your communicator? You can be trusted with it,"
Fury growled and gave me it. "There you happy?!"
"Not even close,"
The Trio ran out into the large runaway filled with planes.
"We need a ride," Yorgoth said.
"I think we've got one," Vers pointed to a giant plane. "All aboard!"
They rushed inside and sat down in the pilot seats at the front. Vers took the pilot seat. Yorgoth sat next on the seat next to him. Fury sat behind.
"You sure you know how to fly one of these?" asked Fury.
"Maybe," Vers answered.
"It's either a yes or a no," retorted Yorgoth.
"Just shut up and let me get started," Vers fired up the engines. They started to move down the runway.
"That's what I'm talking about," Fury cheered.
"Don't get excited," warned Yon-Rogg.
They flew out of the large hole from inside the mountain and into the sky. The higher they went, the higher Yorgoth felt his stomach flying up into his throat. He almost felt like throwing up from Vers's fast flying.
Luckily when they were high enough, she pointed the point of the plane straight forward to make them level.
Yorgoth took a moment to swallow his lunch.
For a moment there was silence until they heard loud meows.
"What the?" Yorgoth turned and saw Goose.
"We got a stowaway," Nick said.
Once again Goose went to Yorgoth and lobbed himself onto his lap before licking him.
"Ughhh!" Yorgoth tried to pull him off but he wouldn't budge. "No kisses Goose please,"
"Come on kitty," Fury blew kisses and Goose jumped down so he could get a stroke. "Okay. What else did you find back in that archive?"
"A funny story actually," Yorgoth turned to him, his expression becoming angry again. "Turns about Lawson is my mother and Vers and I had a life here. But I guess you already knew that?" Yorgoth was beyond angry at Nick.
"Look…would you have believed me?" Fury challenged him, trying to look innocent.
"We arrived on Hala near dead. No memory. That was six years ago," Vers said.
"So that's what Joel never told me," Fury said. "Joel never said you guys were part of some project,"
"Since you know him and that woman in the photo Maria Rambeau, how do we get to them?" requested Yorgoth.
"Due east. Hang a ride at Mentus,"
"That agent who stopped the Skrulls from finding us…who was he?" asked Vers.
"Coulson. Phil Coulson. The new guy. Guess he doesn't hate me yet," Fury grinned.
"I bet there are a lot of people who like you but in reality hate you," Yorgoth said grimly.
"Come on," Fury frowned. "Bit harsh, don't ya think?"
"Actually it's not harsh. Not to someone who keeps secrets,"
"That's enough Yorgoth," Vers silenced him. "We've got a job to do remember?"
Yorgoth managed to remain calm and just sit back in his seat.
"What made Coulson defy orders?" Vers asked.
"Went with his gut against orders. That happens to people in life. It's hard. It's what makes us human," Fury said.
"We get into trouble a lot for that,"
"Like rescuing the guy who sold you to the Skrulls?" "I'm guess that's not standing operative procedure for you Kree people?"
"Nope. It is not," Yorgoth answered.
"How do we know Joel and Maria Rambeau?" Vers asked again.
Fury didn't answer.
"If you want to be on our good side again Fury, you'll tell us who they are to us and how we know them," Yorgoth demanded.
Fury sighed. "Vers, Joel is your brother. And Maria is your best friend. And yours too Yorgoth,"
Vers's eyes enlarged.
"I should let them know we're on our way," Fury said. "They already know you're alive. You guys were viral all over the telly,"
Another chapter done. Yorgoth must be so shocked that Lawson was his mother. Can any of you make any assumptions about who the father is? We'll have to wait and find out. What did you all think of the interactions between the characters? Please send some reviews. I hope you're all enjoying it.
