Fate

A/N: This story is going to get very fluffy/cracky. It really is just for fun. Will eventually become M but not yet. If you need some smut hit up my other stories Stuck Like Glue or Dream Confessions (very M, should probably be E on AO3) I know these chapters are shorter than my normal writing, but this story has more of a plot than my other stories, where you have to squint to see past all the smut. They'll get longer once they get to the Poconos. Just so there is no confusion this breaks from canon as of March 2021. Nothing from the last season will purposely be in this story. And lastly so people don't get mad this will not be a Barson fic. Happy reading….

Chapter 7: What Next?

Olivia glanced back in the rear view mirror to see her son had his headphones on. "Noah?" she called, testing to see if he could hear her, when he didn't respond she figured she was in the clear to talk to Barba as he drove them home.

"Boyfriend?" she asked curiously.

Barba laughed lightly, "Yes. I'm assuming that woman was his girlfriend? So you needed a level playing field. Plus my God, did you see his reaction? What the hell was the deal with you two?"

Olivia rolled her eyes, "Nothing absolutely nothing."

"But not because you didn't want something to happen," Barba accused.

"Don't start," Olivia grumbled, pointing her finger at him, and taking a sip from her coffee.

"You know in all the times I've heard his name mentioned, nobody told me how hot he was-"

Olivia couldn't stop herself from choking at Barba's comment. Thumping her chest to clear her airway she stammered, "Rafe!"

Barba shrugged, "He wears a suit well is all I'm saying, not to mention those baby blues, how the hell did you ever get any work done?"

"I'm begging you to stop," Olivia sighed, rubbing the side of her face.

"And when he was walking ahead of us to the daycare, don't tell me you didn't check out his ass," Barba continued, ignoring his friend's request.

"Seriously Barba, I will pay you to not talk the rest of the way home," Olivia pleaded.

"He's got a nice ass for a man, okay that's the last comment I'll make on his positive physical attributes," Barba grinned widely.

"I hate you," Olivia groused, leaning her head against the window.

It was the longest 24 hours of her life. First Noah threw a temper tantrum over being grounded, then he spent the next 23 hours asking when he could talk to Oliver again. The only break she got was when he finally crashed for 6 hours, waking her far earlier than necessary on a Tuesday morning.

Olivia sat at her desk in the 16th precinct, drinking another coffee and trying to stay awake. She leaned for forehead down on her arms when a knock sounded from her door.

"Late night?" Fin asked

"You could say that," Olivia replied, raising her head to look at her Sergeant.

"Little man keep you up?"

"Absolutely," Olivia nodded. She was about to explain when her cellphone rang.

Olivia held up a finger answering without looking at her caller ID, "Captain Benson."

"Captain?" Elliot's eyebrows flew towards his hairline. Just another thing he had missed in her life.

"Uhhh, yes, just a second," Olivia turned her attention to the man in her office.

"Fin did you need something cause if not I have to take this…" Olivia supplied.

"Naw, you're good, I was just checking in, we'll catch up later and you can tell me why you weren't in yesterday," Fin turned, closing her door and giving her some much needed privacy.

Olivia sighed, she rubbed her eyebrows, "What do you want Stabler?"

"When'd you make Captain?" Elliot inquired curiously.

Olivia chuckled darkly, "We haven't seen each other in over a decade and that's your first question."

"Well I-I…" Elliot stuttered.

"Hmmm, yes something else you missed, anyways it happened recently, a year or so ago now, but I've been CO since Cragen retired and that was quite a few years ago."

Elliot knew then that she could still read his mind. "Well, congratulations, if anyone's earned it, it's you Olivia."

"You didn't call to discuss my job title so I repeat, what do you want Stabler?"

"I, we need to talk Olivia. I mean we share sons for God sakes!" Elliot explained in a harsh tone.

"No we share nothing, we each have son's who happen to be brothers," Olivia countered.

"Fine whatever, my point is what's next?"

Olivia sighed, "Honestly I don't know, I realize I've known about this slightly longer than you but, I still don't know how to handle this."

Elliot nodded even though she couldn't see him. "Oliver and I have been talking a lot in the past 24 hours, and I mean, I know this isn't a long term solution or anything but do you remember how I'd always take the kids to the Poconos for their break?"

Olivia scrunched her brows, not understanding where this conversation was going. "Ummm, yes why?"

"Well Oliver and I had planned to go, although technically I think I may have actually planned it with Noah. Anyways we were wondering if Noah could still come with us?"

Olivia groaned, "That's what he was talking about. He mentioned going to some cabin with you."

"Yeah sorry bout that, thought I was talking to my own son after all," Elliot was sorry for mentioning it to the young boy.

"It would give them more time together," Olivia pondered.

"Yep, and the cabin has tons of rooms although I'm sure they'll share the room with the bunk beds," Elliot guessed.

"No I understand trust me, it's just, I took the time off so I could spend it with him…" Olivia wasn't trying to make Elliot feel bad, but she had purposely requested those upcoming days off because she knew her son would be home from school. She wasn't going to take the whole week but a few days at the end of it.

"Well actually that works out even better because Oliver asked if you would come with us?"

Elliot listened to the silence coming from the other end of the line. For a second he thought she hung up, but he could hear her breathing.

"You can bring your boyfriend of course, Ricky Brown or whatever his name was," Elliot mumbled.

"Let me get this straight, you're inviting my son, my boyfriend and I to a cabin in the Poconos for a few days?"

"Yeah, you, me, Oliver, Noah, and your boyfriend… Jeffries is coming too if it makes you feel better, you guys can reconnect, she was really happy to see you again," Elliot confessed.

"Happier than you," Olivia blurted out.

"I didn't say-"

"Fine yes we'll come," Olivia snapped, wanting to glide over what she had just said.

"Really?" Elliot perked up.

Olivia sighed loudly, she was doing this for her son and nobody else. "Yes the boys need this time together," she stated in a tired tone.

"Your little monster keep you up all night too?" Elliot questioned knowingly.

"Mmhm, and he had me awake far too early," Olivia rubbed her tired eyes.

"Great, I'll text you the details. Do you wanna ride with us-"

Olivia cut him off, "No no, we'll meet you there, always good to have two cars anyways."

"Always thinking like a cop," Elliot chuckled.

"No, I'm thinking like a mother," Olivia argued.

"That too," Elliot agreed. "So I guess we'll talk later?"

"Yes, I gotta go I have work to catch up on since I didn't come in yesterday," Olivia muttered quietly.

"Stay safe Captain," Elliot replied.

"I try, goodbye Stabler," Olivia was about to hang up when he got the final word in.

"It wasn't just Oliver who wanted to invite you," with that he hung up, not wanting to hear her reply in case it was angry.

Olivia rolled her eyes. Of all the people her son had to be related to. It had to be a Stabler.

A/N: Yes we are going there! What shenanigans will the twins get up to? What shenanigans will all the other couples get up to? I know the show never stated it, but I'm going off canon and I'm imagining a much more open Barba, who was never afraid of speaking his mind Please leave a review if you're liking this story, or some kudos, they definitely encourage me to write.
