After dashing down the stairway as quietly as he could manage, Bucky paused as he opened the door and took a deep breath. He slowly opened the door and edged out into the hall. From where he stood, Bucky could see a faint light emanating from under a door at the far end of the hallway.

His heart began pounding in his chest and despite wanting to run down the hall, he forced himself to check the other rooms along the corridor as quietly as possible. As Bucky neared the light, he slowed his steps even more. Although the sound was muffled, he was sure he could hear voices from inside the room.

As Bucky approached the door, a child could be heard. He immediately recognized it as Olivia's voice and he hoped that Alex was with her.

"I want Mommy," Olivia whined loudly from inside the closed door, dashing Bucky's wish.

Out in the hallway, Bucky silently cursed. He had been through the entire building and it was deserted; anyone who had been there had left. While Bucky sorted through his thoughts, a man's voice mumbled a reply to the child. From his position, Bucky couldn't make sense of what was said.

Olivia didn't seem satisfied with the answer and the man spoke again. This time he was louder and more stern which resulted in the child beginning to cry. Bucky suddenly recognized the voice and frantically looked around. He reached for the door handle and then immediately stopped himself from opening the door. Bucky pulled out his phone and texted Sam. As he waited for Sam to get down to the basement, Bucky alternated between nervously pacing a few steps and straining to hear what was happening on the other side of the door.

The sound of the stairwell door opening and Sam hurrying down the hallway did little to calm Bucky. He gestured for Sam to slow down and be quiet as he pressed his ear against the door.

"What's going on?" Sam whispered.

Bucky held up his hand to stop Sam from saying anything else as he listened carefully. The solemn expression that had taken over his face for most of the day softened as he heard Olivia arguing with Sciple. Sam noticed the bit of a smile and asked what he heard. Bucky straightened up and took a step away from the door. He let Sam know that Olivia was inside with Sciple.

"She's arguing with him. Wants him to stop being so crabby."

"Alex?" Sam asked and watched as Bucky shook his head and the smile disappeared.

"So, now what?" Sam continued. "We can't just walk in."

Bucky looked at him with a blank expression. "Why not?"

"Because we can't."

"I'm goin' in," Bucky declared.

"You can't," Sam protested. When he saw that Bucky wasn't about to listen to him, he tried a different approach. "What are you gonna do once you're in there?"

"I'll figure it out once I'm in there."

"What do I do?" Sam asked with a look of consternation.

"Wait here. I'll call you if I need you."

Back at Camp Lehigh, Walker opened the door and told Alex to enter ahead of him. She looked up at him and thought about and hesitated but immediately changed her mind. If there was a thing as soldier mode, he was fully in it. Between that and the effects of the super soldier serum, Alex knew she could end up with a broken bone at best. At worst, she chose not to think about.

Alex stepped into the room with her shoulders straight but her eyes downcast. At first, she was shielded on either side by tall filing cabinets but after a few feet the room opened up.

"Thanks for joining us, Alexandra. You don't mind if I call you Alex, do you?" a woman asked from a few feet away.

Alex looked up. "No. And you are?"

"Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Actually, Countess Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. You can call me Val; just don't do it aloud."

Alex looked back at John Walker. He caught her eye and nodded. Alex then took the opportunity to look around at her surroundings. The room was lit by two lightbulbs dangling from the ceiling. There were more filing cabinets, a large metal table with a few chairs, surrounding it and one lone computer that was running some sort of program.

"I would have thought that you would know who I am," de Fontaine said as she watched Alex take in the surroundings.

"Why?" Alex asked.

"You work with Fury. I worked with Fury. It was for a very short time, but still."

"Sorry."

"Natasha Romanov put S.H.I.E.L.D. files out there for anyone to see. You don't read up on the people you work for?"

"I have a five-year-old. Doesn't leave much time for Googling," Alex replied looking at Fontaine directly. "That five-year-old is probably getting pretty cranky by now, so can you tell me why I'm here and when I'm getting back to her."

"That was direct," de Fontaine replied. "I like that. I would you to tell me where the rest of the super soldier serum is being kept."

Alex mostly unsuccessfully choked back a laugh. "I would assume it's with Ryan in New York."

"I don't mean that. I want the good stuff. The stuff that used to be here," de Fontaine said and pulled out a chair. She gestured for Alex to sit down.

"The good stuff?" Alex repeated and sat down across from the other woman.

"The good stuff. The Steve Rogers Captain America stuff."

"How would I know that?"

"Your husband seems to think that you know," de Fontaine said.

"Ex-husband," Alex corrected. "And, I don't know."

"He said you worked with Fury and you're close," Walker contributed.

Alex did her best to patiently explain again that she was a therapist, nothing more. Instead of the conversation ending, de Fontaine leaned across the table.

"Let's connect the dots. I know that you see Bucky Barnes weekly. He was given the serum. You worked with Nick Fury who had the serum kept here and who assigned Barnes to you. I highly doubt you weren't briefed. Ergo, you may have been told certain things."

Alex rubbed her temples and gave John Walker a pleading look. He remained stone faced and she exhaled slowly, collecting her thoughts.

"My briefing consisted of a file that contained information on James Barnes; nothing more. The only serum I know of is the one you have Ryan Sciple working on. If you have other questions, call Nick Fury and let me go back to my daughter."

"I'm afraid we still have matters to discuss, Alex."
