Chapter 4 Diagon Alley
Sirius let Lizzy lead the way to the college where she would have started in the fall as the youngest student to go to college. The dean of the college was more the happy to help one of the brightest student out and agreed to send all of the assignments at the beginning of each month for her.
"You might want to talk to each of the professors that you would of have and tell them what you have told me." The dean said.
Lizzy looked at the dean and said, "I already did that before we came here to talk to you. You were buzzy when we got here that we went to each professor and got all the assignments till Christmas Break when I will turn them all in."
"Very good. Have a nice day, Miss Black, Mr. Black." Dean Robin said.
"Oh, Dean Robin, the reason that I am doing this is because I am a witch and will be starting at Hogwarts on September the First. I know that you have family that are witches and wizards." Lizzy said.
"Thank you, Miss Black for telling me that is why the brightest student is not going to be here. I have heard many things about Hogwarts from both of my parents. They were sad when they found out that I could not do magic, but they love me no matter what I did. Now I am dean at a very nice collage with a student that is the youngest to every go to school here." Dean Robin said with a very nice smile.
As Lizzy and Sirius left the college with all the books for the year. Lizzy ask, "How do we get to Diagon Alley."
Sirius looked at her and said, "We will go to the Leaky Cauldron. Only witches and wizards can see it. Oh, we will be meeting Hagrid there as well. He wanted to get you something for your birthday."
Lizzy look at Sirius and said, "Hagrid, who is Hagrid." Before she remembered him. "Oh, Hagrid the one you gave your flying motorcycle to and the one that is half giant. I like him. He is better the Dumbledore."
Sirius had a smirk on his face at what was said because Dumbledore wanted to use Lizzy, who Dumbledore still thinks is a boy and that lives with his aunt and uncle, in the wizardly world.
As they step in to the Leaky Cauldron Sirius told Lizzy that she was famous for being the only person to live from the killing curse.
"Can you keep everyone away from me. I don't want to be famous for something that I can't remembered that happen when I was just one years old. When my parents were killed. I just want to be left alone beside you, Paddy. I just won't say anything to anyone that way we can get to Diagon Alley faster." Lizzy said in a very sad voice.
"Ok sweetheart. See there's Hagrid and now we can go." Sirius said as Hagrid walk up to them.
The bartender seen Hagrid and asked, "Will you have your normal Hagrid?"
Hagrid laugh and said, "Not today, Tom. I am on Hogwarts business today. I will be helping Sirius and his godchild to get the supplies need for the term."
Tom looked and seen the scar on young Lizzy's face and said, "It can't be. Young miss Potter. It is a pleaser to meet you."
Lizzy looked at him and asked, "Can you not say anything about this. I just want to be left alone and I don't remember what happen that night since I was just a baby.
Tom looked at her face and saw how much she didn't want to be bugged about it and said, "Ok, sweetly. I will make sure that no one in this bar will bug you." Tom said.
"Thank you, Sir." Lizzy said.
As the three walked to the back with the enters to Diagon Alley was at Hagrid seen Professor Quirrell. As the professor walked to them, Lizzy a feeling that all was not right with the professor. She tugged on Sirius' sleeve to let him know when Hagrid said, "Professor Quirrell what a surprise to see you here. Gemini, this here is one of your professors at Hogwarts. Professor this here is young Miss Gemini Black and her father Sirius Black."
Quirrell looked at Sirius and Lizzy, he stammered, Bl-l-lack, c-c-can't t-tell y-you how p-p-pleased I am to m-m-meet you."
Lizzy didn't shake his hand but asked, "What sort of magic do you teach Professor Quirrell?"
"D-D-Defense A-A-Against the D-D-Dark A-Arts." Stammered Quirrell. "Not that you n-need it, eh B-b-lack not w-w-ith yo-o-ur father." He laughed nervously. "You'll be g-getting all your equipment, I suppose?"
"Yes, we do have to go. Sorry Professor but we must go now. Nice meeting you and see you at Hogwarts." Said Gemini a little too fast. As she pulled Sirius with her.
Sirius asked Lizzy will Hagrid tapped on the brick wall to Diagon Alley, "What's wrong pup? Don't tell me nothing is wrong."
Lizzy looked to make sure that Hagrid was not listening to her when she said, "I stated to get a feeling when we meet the professor there. I didn't like what my feelings was telling me about him. That I need to stay clear of him. That if I get any more feelings while at Hogwarts to let Professor Snape know. You should write him a letter saying sorry to him and ask him to forgive you from your school days. I don't want him to hate me. I know that I can trust him and that he was friends with my mom when they were kids."
Sirius looked at her and said, "OK, when we get done here and get back home I will floo Snape and asked him to come do dinner tonight that way I can tell him sorry to his face and ask him to look out for you to with the way your feelings are going. You might want to tell him about your animal form as well because I know you will want to run in your animal form there because you do it here all the time."
By time Sirius got done talking, Hagrid had the door to Diagon Alley open up, "Welcome to Diagon Alley Gemini." He said with a smile on his face.
"WOW!!!" Lizzy said, "Where do we go now."
"Well we will go to Gringotts, The Wizardly Bank first to get money for you and I need to do some business for Professor Dumbledore there too." Hagrid said.
As they walked to the bank, Lizzy looked at all the shops that they pasted. They passed the Cauldrons All Sizes shop, the Eeylops Owl Emporium Shop, shops selling robes, telescopes and other things that was somewhat new to Lizzy. When they reached the bank, Lizzy notice the goblin that was standing outside of the bank. When they walk in the first set of doors they came to a second set with words engraved upon them:
Enter, stranger, but take heed
Of what awaits the sin of greed,
For those who take, but do not earn,
Most Pay dearly in their turn.
So if you seek beneath our floors
A treasure that was never yours,
Thief, you have been warned, beware
Of finding more than treasure there.
"Wow, goblins must be the best at keeping our gold safe from thieves." Lizzy said.
"They are the best at what they do." Sirius said.
"Liked I said, yeh'd be mad ter try and' rob it," said Hagrid
They walked thought the doors and two more goblins bowed to them. They made their way to the counter and Hagrid said after taking lots of dog biscuits out of his pockets with a note in his hand, "Morning, I got a letter here from Professor Dumbledore. It's about You-Know-What in vault seven hundred and thirteen."
Hagrid said.
"Oh, we will also need to take money out for Miss Elizabeth Potter's vault too and here's the key," Sirius said.
"Very well," the goblin said. "I will have someone to take you done to both vaults. Griphook."
Griphook was yet another goblin. Once Hagrid put the dog biscuits back in his pockets, Sirius, Lizzy and Hagrid followed Griphook toward one of the doors leading of the hall.
"What's You-Know-What in vault seven hundred and thirteen?" Lizzy asked.
Hagrid said mysteriously, "Can't tell you that. Very secret. Hogwarts business. Dumbledore's trusted me. More'n my job's worth ter tell yeh that."
Sirius and Lizzy shared a look. Griphook held the door for them and Lizzy was surprise not to see more marble like in the lobby but instead they were in a narrow stone passageway lit with flaming torches. It sloped down and there a little railway tracks on the floor. Griphook whistled and a small cart came hurtling up the tracks. All four of them climbed in- Hagrid with some difficulty- and they were off.
To Lizzy it felt like the was on a ride. She tried to remember left, two rights, another left, middle fork, right again, then an another left but it was impossible.
Lizzy looked over at Hagrid and notice that he looked a little green in color. "Are you alright Hagrid? You don't look so good." Lizzy asked.
"I think I'm gonna be sick," Hagrid said as the cart stopped at last beside a small door in the passageway wall, Hagrid got out of the cart and lean against the wall to stop his knees for trembling.
Griphook unlocked the door and a lot of green smoke came billowing out. As the green smoke cleared Lizzy gasped for inside was mounds of coins, columns of silver and heaps of bronze Knuts.
Sirius smiled at Lizzy and said, "This is all your dear. Your parents left it to you that way you can go to Hogwarts and when you come of age in six years you will get your inherited. This vault was set up before you were born."
"Let me guesses," Lizzy said. "The gold ones are Galleons. Seventeen silver Sickles to a Galleons and twenty-nine Knuts to a Sickle. I want to make sure that I have enough for all my equipment that I need with extra to spend for other things as will. I want to get something for Moony and you too Paddy. I think a cat for home, that way you won't be by yourself."
"Right you are, Lizzy and that is very sweet of you to get something for us." Sirius said.
"Do you have everything you need Gemini," asked Hagrid.
"Yes, Hagrid. I do." Lizzy said.
"Ok then it's off to vault seven hundred and thirteen." Hagrid said turning a little green again. "Do you think you can go at a slower speed Griphook?"
"Sorry. One speed." The goblin said.
"Hagrid try closing your eyes and see if that helps any." Lizzy said.
"Thanks Gemini, I will hav' to try that." Hagrid said as he closes his eyes.
The cart more father down till vault 713 was at their side. Lizzy look at Hagrid and said, "You can open your eyes now Hagrid. We are at vault 713 now."
"All ready. We just left yer vault. Thanks for the tip of closing my eyes Lizzy it helped," said Hagrid.
"Stand back now," said Griphook as he open the vault. When the cloud of dust cleared they looked in the vault and seen that there was nothing in there besides a small wrap packaged no bigger than a rock.
While Hagrid still look green in the face Lizzy found a red rock on the ground out side of the vault and felt that she need to switch it with the one in the vault. She made it look and feel just like the other one and while no one was looking she made the switch and pocket the real stone. No one not even the goblin seen the switch.
Hagrid reached inside and grabbed it and looking at Sirius and Lizzy saying, "Don't be telling no one about this please."
"OK," Lizzy and Sirius said at the same time.
"Remember to close your eyes on the way back up Hagrid. It will help." Lizzy said with a smile.
By the time they made it back up Hagrid didn't look as green as he did on the way down. They left the bank behind and was walking when Sirius asked, "Hagrid can you take Lizzy to get her robes. I want to get something, and I will meet you at the book shop. Ok."
"Paddy, I will be fine getting my robes. Let Hagrid go and get a pick-me-up from the Leaky Cauldron and then meet us at the book shop." Lizzy said as she ran off to where Griphook was standing.
Sirius looked at Hagrid and notice that he was still a little green in color and said, "OK."
Hagrid looked down at his feet and said, "Thanks guys. On my way back, I will get us all ice cream and meet you at the book shop.
After that both Sirius and Lizzy left the bank. They parted ways with Hagrid. Lizzy walked in to Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions and looked around when she heard, "Hogwarts, dear."
"Yes, madam." Lizzy said.
Madam Malkin was a squat, a smiling witch dressed all in mauve. "Got the lot here- another student is being fitted up just now, in fact."
In the back of the shop, a boy with a pale pointed face, was standing on a footstool while a second witch, which was pinning up his long black robes. Madam Malkin stood Lizzy on a stool next to his, slipped a long robe over her head and began to pin it to the right length.
Lizzy got an idea and as Madam Malkin about it, "Madam is there a way to charm my robes to grow with me as I grow that way I don't have to come back every year to be fitted and it will save on the fabric too."
Madam Malkin looked at the young witch in front of her and said in a surprise voice, "That is a very good idea young lady and yes I can do it for you."
"Thank you madam. Can you put these to house crest on them for me as well?" Lizzy asked.
"Sure dear." Said Madam Malkin.
The pale boy then looked at Lizzy and said, "Hello. Hogwarts too."
"Yes," said Lizzy.
"My father's next door buying my books and mother's up the street looking at wands," said the boy. He had a bored, drawling voice. "Then I am going to drag them of to look at the racing brooms. I don't see why first years can't have their own. I might bully my father into getting me one and I'll smuggle it in somehow."
Lizzy rolled her eyes thinking that this boy was a bully.
"Have you got your own broom?" the boy went on.
"No, I don't but my father has one that he let me ride on." Lizzy said.
"You do. So, do you play Quidditch at all."
"Sometimes when Paddy and Moony are bored we do. I was told by them that my dad was seeker." Lizzy said.
"I say, look at those two men! I think one is cousin to my mom, but I don't know the other one" the boy said suddenly, looking out the front window where both Sirius and Hagrid stood. Hagrid had two cones in his hands.
"That is my godfather, Sirius, and the other one is Hagrid. He is gamekeeper at Hogwarts." Lizzy said.
"Oh, where are your parents at?" the boy asked.
Lizzy looked away from the boy when she said, "They are dead."
The boy said, "Oh, sorry." He didn't sound sorry to Lizzy.
The boy started to say something when Madam Malkin look up at Lizzy and said, "You are all done now, my dear." Lizzy hoped of the stool with a small smile on her face that she could now leave the boy and his endless talking.
"Well, I will see you at Hogwarts, I suppose," said the drawing boy.
Lizzy was rather quit as she ate the ice cream that Hagrid got her (mint chocolate chip dipped in fudge.)
Sirius seen that she was quit and ask, "What is wrong pup."
Lizzy finished her cone and said, "There was a boy being fitted for robes when I went in and it was just something he said that I didn't like. He seen both you and Hagrid waiting for me and said something about Hagrid. He said that you look like you were a cousin to his mom. He was a pale face boy with white blonde hair. There he is." Lizzy pointed at the boy that just walked out of the robe shop to a man that he looks just liked.
"Oh. That is the Malfoys and yes, my cousin is marred to the older one. Now let's get your books and other things you need for school." Sirius said. By the time they got done all that was left was the trunk, wand and pet.
"Gemini why don't you go a get your wand and I will get your pet for you since I haven't got you a birthday gift yet." Hagrid said.
"Oh, Hagrid you don't have to get me anything." Lizzy said
"Oh, but I want too." Hagrid said.
Lizzy turn a little pink in the cheeks at that and said, "OK. If you want too. I know that I won't be long getting my wand because I know what type I am to have. It will have a phoenix tail feather core, made from holly and be eleven inches long. So how about we all go to
Ollivanders: Maker of Fine Wands since 382 B.C. Then we all can go and look at the pets. I know I want to go there and look at all the animals just for the fun of it. Of course, I will have to pet all of the cats there."
They all agreed to do just that. As they walk to Ollivanders, Hagrid left the group without Sirius or Lizzy seeing him leave. As Lizzy and Sirius walk in to the wand shop a little bell sounded letting Mr. Ollivander know that he had a customer.
"Hello", Lizzy said to the what look like an empty shop. When she saw a little man come up front
"Ah, yes," said the man. "Yes, yes. I thought I'd be seeing you soon, Miss Potter. You have your mother's eyes. Its seems like it was only yesterday she was here buying her first wand. Ten and a quarter inches long, swishy, made of willow. Nice wand for charm work."
"Mr. Ollivander, it is nice to see you again," Sirius cut in picking up on Lizzy's feelings. "This is my goddaughter and adopted daughter Gemini Lizzy Black. Lizzy, this is Mr. Ollivander, maker of fine wands."
Mr. Ollivander looked at Sirius and said, "Oh, yes. Sirius Black. Your wand was an oak wood with a phoenix tail feather core, eleven and haft inches long. Good for both charms and transfiguration." Much to Lizzy's surprise. Seeing the look on the young girl's face, Mr. Ollivander said, "I remember every wand I ever sold and made, Miss Black. Your father, on the other hand, favored a mahogany wand. Eleven inches, pliable. A little more power and excellent for transfiguration. Well, I say your father favored it -it's the wand that chooses the wizard really. Now let's get you measured for your wand, Miss Potter-Black. Now which is your wand hand?"
Lizzy said, "My right hand is and to make your job easier, Mr. Ollivander, my wand will be made from holly wood with a phoenix tail feather and be eleven inches long, a nice and supple wand. I also believe that the phoenix gave two tail feathers and one will be in my wand and the other was giving to Tom Marvolo Riddle, who is in fact Lord Voldemort. You just have to rearrange the letters."
"In all my years I have never had a customer know what type of wand to have and you say HE-WHO-SHOUL-NOT-BE-NAME name without fear. You do know that it was he who killed your parents and gave you that scar, right," said Mr. Ollivander.
"Yes, I do know that it was Voldemort that killed them and tried to kill me but couldn't. I do not fear him. There is a saying 'there is no fear besides fear itself'. I don't fear him if you fear him you will give him the power and that is not something any one wants. So, about my wand." Lizzy said.
Mr. Ollivander snapped out of it and said, "Right, right. Eleven inches long made of holly and phoenix feather. This has been one of the shorts time spent finding a wand. Might I ask how you known what wand yours was."
"I had a dream about it being made fifty years ago and that the phoenix who gave the feathers is the one that belongs to the headmaster of Hogwarts," Lizzy said.
Sirius and Lizzy left 'Ollivanders: Maker of Fine Wands since 382 B.C. Hagrid was coming out of Eeylops Owl Emporium with a large cage that held a beautiful white snowy owl who was a sleep with her head under her wing. "Happy Birthday Lizzy. I got you an owl that way you can right to Sirius here and me." Hagrid said with a big smile on his face.
Lizzy fell in love with the owl right away. "She beautiful, Hagrid. I am going to name her Hedwig. I still want to go and look at the other animals." Lizzy said.
Sirius was find with that and said "Ok, let's go but first let's call Kreacher to take your things home that way we don't have to carry them with us."
"OK, but I still need to get my trunk too. Hey Kreacher," Lizzy said. There was a small "pop" noise when Kreacher arrived.
"How may Kreacher, help Master Black and Miss Lizzy. Kreacher is more than happy to help." Kreacher said with a bow to both.
Lizzy has liked Kreacher since she was little, and the elf loved her, since she was always nice to him. Lizzy asked, "Can you take my school stuff home for me and Hedwig's cage too and have Rose help you out too. Sirius is going to send a note to Severs Snape and going to ask him to come to lunch with us for my birthday. I want Hedwig to know the way to Hogwarts before I go. Thanks, Kreacher." Lizzy said in a very nice voice.
"Kreacher and Rose is more than happy to help Miss Lizzy and Master Black. Master Black is a great father to little Lizzy from day one and Kreacher is happy to have a family to take care of. Master Sirius can Rose and Kreacher be family to each other," said/asked the elf with a big toothy smile.
Sirius was surprise by what Kreacher asked and didn't know what to say. Sirius said, "Well Kreacher you have surprise me by asking. Let me think and I will give my answer to you both tonight ok."
With a nodded of his head Kreacher left. Sirius still had a look of surprise on his face which made Lizzy laugh and smile. Lizzy drag Sirius to the trunk shop to get a trunk for Lizzy. Lizzy found a trunk that had a library built in and had a nice closet too. It had a total of four different rooms in there. Lizzy wanted it to be very protected that only opened for her. So, it was password and magic protected to open just for her and no one else could get in and if some one tried to there was a spell that let everyone one knew not to trust them.
After the trunk was taken care of, Lizzy told Sirius to write a letter to Severs and inviting him to dinner and to invite McGonagall and Hagrid as well to celebrate her birthday and that he could use Hedwig that way she will know the way but before they did they called for Kreacher one more time. With a pop Kreacher was there.
"What can Kreacher do for the Blacks. Kreacher is happy to help." Kreacher said.
Sirius said, "Can you key in Hedwig in to the wards that way she can get in and out of there. We will be having some people over for dinner tonight for Lizzy's birthday."
"Kreacher is more than happy to do it for Miss Lizzy. Kreacher will make a very nice dinner for Miss Lizzy." With that said Kreacher pop away without a sound.
While Lizzy was in the pet shop looking at all the animals in there, Sirius was writing his letter to Severus Snape. By the time Sirius was done writing the letter to both Severus and Proffer McGonagall Lizzy had come back from the pet shop with a pure black kitten name Midnight. The kitten had green eyes just like Lizzy did. The kitten was a full blooded kneazle, who gave Sirius a very heated look that seem to say, 'I know that you turn in to a dog.'
"Will I be able to take Midnight with me to Hogwarts since I do have Hedwig too. They are both my families. I know the letter said an owl, cat or toad, but they are both my families, so I should be able to take them both right. We need to go back to the book store and see if there are any books about having more than one families," Lizzy said as she drag Sirius behind her.
At the same time as Lizzy and Sirius was enter a family of three was enter has well. The girl was the same age as Lizzy and very curly hair that like to go everywhere. Lizzy seeing the girl said, "Hi. My name I Gemini Black and I will be going to Hogwarts this year too. What is your name."
Hermione Granger was surprise when a girl her age was talking to her and telling her, her name. Hermione thought maybe she will want to be my friend. My first friend. Hermione said in a small voice, "Hi. My name is Hermione Granger and it is nice to meet you Gemini. Yes, I will be going to Hogwarts this year. I am the first in the family to be a witch. I am what you will call a muggle-born."
"It is nice to meet you, Mione. I hope you don't mind but I just shorten your name. So, it is like a nickname. Like my nickname of Lizzy, it is short for Elizabeth, but I go by my adopted name Gemini, but you can call me Lizzy only family and good friends call me that. I know that we just meet and everything, but would you and your parents like to come to my home for my birthday. There will be a few professors there as well. They knew my mum and dad and I want to find out about them. I am sure that my paddy won't mind. I know let's go and ask now," said Lizzy said with a smile has she and Hermione walk to were Sirius was talking to Hermione's parents at.
"Would you both like to come over for a little party that I am having for Lizzy. Today is her birthday and some of her friends will be there as well. It is a surprise for her and she just thinks that it will be a few people that she knows that will be there. You will be able to meet two of the professors that teach at Hogwarts has well as two second years that are good friends with Lizzy. The boys are twins and are like brothers to Lizzy," Sirius told them hoping that they like the idea of their daughter make friends, two that was already there and one that will be starting up.
George said with a smile, "We would like that very much. Thank you for the offer. Let's just ask if Hermione wants to go too. I for one want to know more about this world our daughter has enter in. I just hope that she won't scare them off with her book smarts."
Mary said, "What is your daughter's name again. She looks familiar, but I just can place her."
Sirius look to where Lizzy and her new friend where at and seen that they were headed to them. Sirius said, "Her name is Elizabeth Black, but she likes to go by Lizzy. I am her godfather. She lost her parents at a very young age so I adopted her and she asked to change her name at the age of four to a star name that is the Black family tradition."
"You don't mean that she is The Elizabeth Black. The one that is starting college this year. The youngest ever to finish school at the age of ten. Hermione will just love that. She looks up to her. Has all of the newspaper clippings about her and everything." Mary said in a very happy tone.
"The one and the same. Let's let Lizzy tell her, ok. Sirius asked.
Both Granger agreed just as the girls got to them. Both girls were talking a mile a minute. Both Sirius and the Grangers smile at the friendship they were seeing happening.
"Oh, Lizzy. These are my parents, Dr. George and Dr. Mary Granger. They are dentist. Mum, dad this is Elizabeth Black and she will be at Hogswart this year too. Wait." Hermione said and turn to look at Lizzy. "You said that your name was Elizabeth Black. Are you THE Elizabeth Black the youngest to finished high school at the age of ten and the youngest to go off to college too? Lizzy why didn't you tell me that?" Hermione asked Lizzy.
"I want you to like me for me. Not because I finished high school at a very young age. I just wanted a friend that was my age and that was not older then me," Lizzy said in a small voice.
Sirius thought now would be a good time to leave and head home with the new friends that both made. "Lizzy how about we head home that way you can show Hermione where you live and all both the new world that she is in. You can show her Midnight and Hedwig. I found you the book you wanted too. Sirius said. Turning to the Grangers he asked, "Are you all done with the shopping that you had?"
Mary said that they were all done that Hermione just wanted more books to read to learn more. The three parents and the two girls left the shop to head to the Blacks home.
They all entered the Leaky Cauldron and went to the floo to head to the Blacks home but before Sirius could use the floo powder Lizzy said, "Paddy why don't you write to Severus Snape now that way when we get home we can get ready for the party. I know Minnie will want to come. That way it will give you more time to talk to Severus before everyone gets there. Ok. You can use Hedwig if you want too. That way she will know where to go."
"Ok, Lizzy. I already did. He will be here at three along with Minnie and Hagrid that way I can talk to him before the Weasley's and the Longbottom's show up." Sirius said.
