This is my first fanfiction and I hope you like it. For each update, I will be suggesting a couple of songs that I think really remind me of the chapter. So go ahead and ENJOY!
P.S. I will update whenever I can cause I don't really have an updating schedule.
Disclaimer: The Mortal Instruments and all the characters belong to Cassandra Clare (this unfortunately includes Jace as well). I only own the plot.

CHAPTER 5

Jace POV

Jace was annoyed, to say the least.

He had been woken up by Izzy slamming a pillow repeatedly on his face, and by the time he went for his shower, Max had used up all the hot water. Then he found that Alec had eaten the last of the cereal and they had run out of coffee. And, to top it all off, his silver Mustang was out of gas, so he had to ride with his siblings in Alec's boring Honda.

So yes, he was very annoyed.

But then he saw her entering the school's parking lot and his jaw just about dropped. She was dressed in tight black leather, and that red tank top made her look practically sinful. She was driving a black sports bike with blue flames painted on it. Gorgeous, thick red curls spilled out from under her black helmet.

She was pretty much fulfilling his and every other straight guy's fantasy at that moment, and he almost raised his hand to his face to check if he was drooling. From the corner of his eye, he could see Sebastian's eyes wide open and his tongue almost hanging out of his mouth. He wanted to smirk at that, but really, he couldn't blame Seb. That girl just looked too damn good.

He ignored Kaelie and Seelie on either sides of him, both trying to get his attention with their high pitched voices. When she pulled her helmet off, he let out a soft exhale. Jesus, she was gorgeous.

Izzy called out her name and the group walked over to her. Jace eyed the stunning bike, taking in the intricate designs that had no doubt been carefully painted on, before turning back to its owner, only to clench his fists when he saw Sebastian picking up her hand.

"Hello Clary. It's a pleasure to meet you." He winked at the redhead, before kissing the back of the hand he was holding.

"Wish I could say the same." He heard her mutter softly under her breath.

Damn, that girl sure brought the word 'spitfire' to life.

He laughed loudly at Sebastian's scowling face, before sighing softly as he watched Clary's small figure enter the school.

He already knew his schedule and groaned internally when Kaelie followed him to the Math classroom. He sat down on a desk right in the middle of the room, and in less than a minute, he was surrounded by his football buddies and practically every girl in the class.

His momentarily peaceful mood was ruined when Kaelie decided to sit on his lap and push her red-tipped hands into his hair. Those claws she called nails were sharp enough to draw blood, and he winced when they scratched painfully against his head, making his scalp sting.

In short, he was not happy.

At least, that was until he noticed her walking into class.

A sly grin took place on his face, as he practically peeled Kaelie off him and walked towards her. Clary simply rolled her eyes and sat down in a corner seat in the last row.

"Morning Carrot." He said, his grin widening when her gorgeous eyes narrowed at him. He knew he was annoying her and he loved it. He could spend all day just staring at her, while she tried and failed miserably to appear menacing. Really, she was just making herself cuter.

"What are you doing here? Aren't you a senior?" she snapped at him.

Damn, all that feistiness really just makes her hotter. How can she be so cute and hot at the same time?!

"Well, if you haven't noticed, this is an AP class. You're one of the only juniors in here."

"What do you want Jace?"

"What do you mean? Can't I wish my favorite redhead a good morning?"

"Look Blondie, if you don't want anything, stop annoying me." She said, scowling at him.

Jace clutched his chest mockingly and pouted dramatically.

"Oh my dear Spitfire, how you wound my poor little heart. Why must you be so harsh? I am sure to die - tell my family I love them!"

Clary snorted and shook her head, but Jace could tell she was fighting back a smile. He smirked as she tried to put a scowl back on her face.

"Leave, Jace." She said, pointing to where his 'friends' were. "I don't need any more glares from Kaelie. Why don't you give your attention to someone who actually wants it?"

Jace raised an eyebrow and his smirk turned into an amused grin, as he saw another opportunity to tease her.

"Kaelie, huh? Are you jealous Cherry?"

Clary POV

Did-did he just say what I think he said?

"And come on – don't lie – you love my attention. Everyone does."

She scoffed loudly, shaking her head.

"Listen here, you egoistic, annoying ass. Leave. Me. Alone. Like I said before, if you don't want anything, stop annoying me. Now leave!

Jace opened his mouth to say something, but he was cut off by the bell. With a smirk, he sat down in the nearest empty seat – meaning, the one right next to hers.

"Sorry Red, the bell has rung. Gotta sit down, or I'll get into trouble."

She scoffed once again.

"And since when did you care about that?"

He leaned towards her and with a boyish grin said, "Since now."

Clary groaned and covered her face with her hands. How she was supposed to survive school when she had to deal with Math and Jace first thing in the morning?! Not to mention Kaelie and her death glares.

She was broken out of her thoughts when a crumpled ball of paper landed on her desk. Confused, she opened it and smoothed the paper out. On it were five words, written in sleek cursive that almost made her scream in frustration.

Welcome to Idris High, Shortcake - J

Clary POV

Clary sighed with relief when she heard the lunch bell ring. She had just finished English, another class that she shared with Jace. Thankfully, she only had the class twice a week, and the blonde-haired idiot was sitting on the other side of the classroom. Though he did make it a point to annoy her before class started.

She almost ran to the lunch hall, her stomach desperate for some food. She was ecstatic when she realized that she was one of the first ones there, and quickly grabbed a tray. She decided on a salad, a bag of chips and a pack of juice, before looking around the cafeteria, wondering where to sit.

"Clary! Over here, babes!"

She turned towards the source of the voice, to find Izzy sitting at a large table, waving her arms around like a madwoman. With a grin, she headed towards the raven-haired girl.

"Hey Izzy."

"Hey girly. Come on, let me introduce you to everyone."

She looked at the almost completely occupied table, before sending a small smile to everyone.

"Hi Maia." Clary said, giving a wave to the familiar looking brunette. The girl simply smiled, before waving back at her.

"So," Izzy started, pointing to a stunning girl with short black hair and sharp Asian features. "This girl right here is Aline, and the blonde next to her is her girlfriend Helen. We call them 'Heline'. The other blonde over there is Camille. Raphael is the extremely sulky looking guy who is sitting next to her, and no, they are not dating. This huge dude here is Jordan, he's Maia's boyfriend. And then there's Magnus, Simon, Maia and I, but you've already met us. So yeah, that's about it."

Clary stared at Izzy, wide-eyed and mouth open. That girl had just said the entire thing in one breath!

"Wow," she said after a moment. "You talk fast."

Everyone around her laughed loudly, while Izzy just shrugged.

"Eh," the girl replied. "It's what I do."

Jace POV

Jace's day just couldn't get any better. Sure, it had had a bad start, but Clary seemed to have the power to make everything better. Just seeing her grow red in the face when he annoyed her - man did it brighten his day. He thoroughly enjoyed teasing her, and them sharing a few classes was the perfect cherry on the top.

God, he couldn't stop thinking about her. The way her fire-like hair framed her smooth heart-shaped face. The way her freckles stood out like bits of chocolate against her pale face. The way her large doe-like eyes were outlined by thick red lashes. The way her cute little button nose twitched ever so often. The way her full pink lips were constantly set in a soft, but natural pout.

Needless to say, he was obsessed.

Hell, even that was probably an understatement.

He was too busy day dreaming about her to notice lunch getting over. It was only when Alec nudged his shoulder that he realized that if he didn't get going soon, he was going to be late for class. He groaned as he remembered that he had Art.

He was terrible at Art.

And even that was putting it kindly.

He was bad at art. So bad that he was sure, the only paintings his teacher would be getting from him would be 'abstract' ones.

Yeah... no. Those ones would probably be even worse.

His once pleasant mood only went further downhill, when he saw none other than Sebastian sitting next to Clary. With a frown etched deep onto his face, he saw her laughing at something Seb was saying.

What the hell happened to the Clary who turned down Seb just this morning?!

He quickly made his way to the seat on her other side and sat down with a loud huff.

Hearing the sound, Clary turned towards him, and her pixie-like features immediately set into a scowl. Jace, on the other hand, just winked at her and tipped an imaginary hat. Grumbling under her breath, she turned back to Seb.

God, he loved pissing her off.

With a smirk, he turned towards the front of the classroom, where their slightly eccentric art teacher stood.

"Alright everybody!" The not-quite-middle-aged-but-not-quite-old teacher clapped her bangle covered hands. "My name is Dorothea, but you will call me Madame Dorothea, or just Madame. Not Dorothea, not Miss D, and most certainly not D-Dawg. Understood? Comprende? Capeesh? Okay, great. Now moving on to your partners – starting from the first row on the right, your partner is the person sitting to your left. They will be your partners for the rest of the year."

Jace grinned as he saw the look of slow understanding that passed over Clary's face, before she turned to him with an accusing glare.

"You! You're going to be my partner for the rest of the year?!"

"Yes ma'am."

She groaned, before softly banging her head on the table.

Jace smirked widely. Maybe Art won't be so bad after all.

Clary POV

Clary was beyond frustrated at this point. Art was the one class that she absolutely adored, but then Jace had to come along and spoil it for her.

She grumbled softly under her breath as she changed into her gym clothes. She had barely known the boy for a week, and she already hated him.

Making her way out of the locker room, she slowly jogged to class. As the large field came into view, she found a soft smile gracing her face. After her father and brother's death, she had thrown herself into exercising. While she loved art, to her, it was a way of pouring out her feelings, and she kept drawing their faces over and over. The gym had been the only place that seemed to distract her from the constant pain and sorrow, and eventually, she had fallen in love with the adrenaline rush it gave her.

She quickly jogged to her friends as soon as she spotted them.

"Hey guys!"

Simon scowled at her. "Why the hell do you look so excited. It's gym, Clary. Gym."

Clary let out a soft laugh and looped her arms through Izzy's and Maia's, who looked just as happy as her.

"Sorry Si. We just love working out too much."

"Alright everyone, listen up." Coach yelled out. "You guys are going to be running laps today, so get started."

Oh, you don't have to tell me twice.

Barely a minute later, Clary was jogging steadily around the track by herself. She could feel herself slowly moving into her happy space, when it was interrupted by none other than the blonde idiot himself.

"Hey there Shortcake."

"WHAT?"

"Hey now, don't be so hostile. You were looking lonely, I thought I'd accompany you."

Clary let a soft sigh. "Look Jace, I'm in no mood for you and your annoying comments right now, alright? Please, just shut up."

Jace looked taken aback for a moment, before he nodded slowly, a look of understanding crossing over his face.

"Alright Clary. I'll shut up."

And for the rest of the class, the duo jogged together in silence, not a single word exchanged between them.
