Chapter 3
The MTF unit, Rayla, Callum, Ezran, and Bait proceed to the gateway. Rayla had explain the whole situation to Callum and Ez has they got on the move. Well, excluding the part about what had happened to her arm, she didn't want Callum to do anything overprotective.
"So, you guys are from this gate way?" Ezran ask Zharykhin.
"You are correct, it was what we told you."
"And the "foundation" as you guys call it, it keeps dangerous things at bay so that those humans stay safe."
"Also correct, we die the dark, so that mankind may live in the light, but don't too many more questions about what we do. It's classified, and you are far too young to know these things."
"I'm a child king, who was already had to deal with a coup, and war with in the first few weeks of my rule. I'm sure I could handle it." Eran says with confidence.
"King Ezran, I'm a 6ft tall Russian. Some of the things the foundation has scare me, but it's the things I don't know the foundation has that absolutely terrify me."
"If that the case, then why do what you do?"
The Russian laughs, "Oh, you sweet ребёнок. The same reason you stood and fought for your people." Says as he pulls out a flask from his pocket, "Captain, Vodka?"
"LT, you know we're not supposed to drink on duty, let alone on a mission," The captain scolds.
The Russian ignores his captain, "How about you, Rayla? You drink?"
"Thanks, I'm good."
"More for me," Zharykhin says as chugs the entire flask. Johnathan sighs. The others just stare at him.
"Hey what if I wanted some?" Jefferson exclaims.
LT stops drinking, "My apologies, but I've already finished it."
"So, Callum," Johnathan says, "Rayla tells me you're quite the Magician. Care to demonstrate?"
"YES! ABSOULTLY! Errr um I mean, yeah sure whatever."
Johnathan shakes his head, "You are strange one. Have at it kid."
Callum channels the power of the sky, lets it flow through him. He can feel all of it. He's curious as to how powerful he can make the spell. He forms the rune with his hands, "Asprio!" he lets out as much magic as he can. The wind from the spell knocks tress down from where they are standing to about 100 yards in front of them. Animals are thrown into the trees that were not knocked over
Rayla give him 'the look', not the good one either, "Ya think ya over did Cal?"
"Hehe, maybe..." Callum replies sheepishly.
The captain laughs, "Don't listen to her, kid, that was impressive."
Some time passes, and the gateway is in sight. The captain turns to the group, "Well here we are. And it would seem we about 40 minutes of moonlight left," he grabs his radio, "Director Smith, we are about to come back through."
Rayla, Callum, Ezan and Bait stare in awe. A gateway to another world. A completely different way of life. Xadia was full of magical things, but this was something straight out of child's imagination. Elvish writing is inscribed on the stone arch, glowing in the light of the moon. It reads, "In the Moons light, new world in sight". The portal itself was like looking into a blue and gold tinted window. They could see other foundation staff, presumably documenting everything that was going on.
Rayla put her hand on the gate way, "So this is it, your home is on the other side?"
"Well, that's usually how interdimensional gateways work. At least for the next," He checks his watch "38 minutes." Johnathan replies.
"You say that as if it's a common occurrence. This is amazing!" Ezran exclaims.
"In our world, it happens quite a bit," LT chimes in, "So yes. This is nothing new for us, however most of them are not nearly this nice."
"What! You're telling us there are more even more worlds?"
"Enough," The Captain orders, "We can't tell you too much more. It just our nature. The foundation is a very secretive organization. Besides, like LT said, you wouldn't want to visit most of them."
"Oh, sorry. But why all the secrets? Wouldn't it be better to tell the world so they can better prepare themselves?" Ezan ask.
"King Ezran, I'm sure that the humans in this world would be unphased by some of the things the foundation has, but the humans in our world... well... they are easily frightened," LT explains, "If the foundation were to come out, it would spark mass panic. Society would likely collapse and we'd have to divert resources to rebuild and pick up the pieces. Resources that would be vital in protecting humanity and in some cases, the universe."
"He's right," Private Jefferson chimes in, "The foundation tried it once, on a small scale. Small village in Argentina, a country in southern hemisphere of our world. The town was completely shocked and panic ensued. Riots, murder, and vandalism sky rocketed. We had to alter people's memories, and create elaborate cover stories for the rest of the world. Created a huge PR mess with the nations we work with too. The only reason I'm telling you this is because it recently unclassified information."
LT face palms, "Unclassified to foundation personnel, private..."
"Oh, shit! Sorry!"
The captain laughs it off, "It's fine, you guys won't tell anyone will you?"
"No sir." Rayla, Callum, and Ezran say in unison.
"Good, wouldn't want to use... never mind."
"So," Callum ask, "You think we have enough time to see the other side?"
The captain sighs, "No, isn't enough time for that now. Site director Smith has been on comms, reminding us that we are already eating way too far into our buffer time. That being said, King Ezran, as a representative of the foundation, under orders from the O-5 Council, would you be willing to discuss terms of an alliance? And Rayla, if you would, could you act as an emissary to your people. Same offer that I gave King Ezran."
"Of course." Ezran smiles, "You guys seem to be nice."
"I'll speak to the Dragon Queen," Rayla responds, "After years of war, and now finally peace, she would most likely welcome an ally."
"Good to hear, the O-5 council will be pleased."
"JOHN," The radio squeals loud enough for everyone to hear, "You have 28 minutes, get back here now!"
"Copy director, heading through now. Did you get all that on recording?"
"Yes Captain, Well done Bravo-Zulu. Now get back here before you get stuck there for 30 days."
"Yes mam, Alright Let's get going. It was a pleasure meeting you all. We'll be back during the next full moon awaiting your answer."
"We'll be here. See you around!"
Bravo-Zulu and the child King, mage, and elf go their separate ways. When King Ezran returns to Katolis, he informs the people about the foundation, and the other world beyond. Meanwhile in Xadia, Rayla and Callum speaks to Zubia, the Dragon Queen. She is hesitant at first, but she trusts them. They did save her son's life after all. She eventually agrees to meet them at the gate way during the next full moon. The news of this spreads across the human kingdoms and all of Xadia. From the highest mountain, to the lowest, most despicable rats that cower behind their shame, and lust for war.
"Father, I have news!" a young woman dressed in black, with partially white hair exclaims.
"What is it, Claudia?" The father responds, almost annoyed as if it were going to be something stupid.
"News about a gateway to another world! And I hear there are humans there. Very powerful humans. They may be able to help us take back what is rightfully ours!"
"Well that certainly is interesting..." The man, Viren, who was responsible for the war, once a powerful dictator, now fallen so far. Quite in a literal sense. One may say, he had been thrown off a cliff. He begins to think. Usually when this man thinks, It's nothing good.
Meanwhile at site 243, in the shadows just, outside of the facility. Beyond the entrance in the middle of the wilderness, and man dress in a dark cloak sets up a low frequency radio, as not to be detected. He dials it in till he gets the right frequency.
"Report," a man on the other end demands.
"This gateway... It could be of use to you."
"Go on."
"The people in that world, they are primitive, but they have powers that could be used against the foundation. It may take some...convincing."
"Very well. We will discuss this more in person later. This better be good, may I remind you of what if you fail us?"
"No need to remind me," He hears a patrol, "I have to go..." The man quickly disassembles the radio and runs off into the darkness...
He drops something along the way. A picture of his wife and two kids. They are being held captive by the CHAOS insurgency. As of now, they are the driving force of everything he is doing. If he fails, they will all be shot. And worst of all, he has to give up his loyalty to humanity to do it. This man, who we do not know yet, has been forced to do terrible and despicable things to keep his family alive.
Two years ago, he killed his best friend. the Insurgency captured him and made him choose between him and family. And it was not a quick death, either. They held a gun to his head, gave him a knife, and told him to "make it painful". After he had done the deed. he was told that he would have to do the same to his family if he did not comply with them. He knows they are serious. Last year, he was rewarded with being able to see his family, who are unaware of what he had done to keep them alive. he could barely look them in the eye. Then, over a nice dinner, the insurgency told his family what he was responsible for. They didn't even need to ask this man if what they were saying was true. You could see it in his eyes. Now he is allowed to visit them every other week, but they don't want him to come. This man, whoever he may be, has been broken and turned into the perfect double agent.
