Kanrilia.
A lone planet from an isolated star system, located in the borders between Segmentum Pacificus and Segmentum Tempestus.
A γ-class planet, according to official Imperial classification.
Secondary classification based on geographical features ranks it as an Ocean World: its surface area is covered for 90% by oceans, where all the native biosphere is located, with the remaining part coming from a single continent named Iraxi.
Only two species inhabit the otherwise lifeless lands.
The first are humans.
Ever since its first colonization in M32, all Imperial settlements are found along the coastline, be it the capital city Epidamnusor smaller towns and villages, all living off fishing industry. Indeed, the seas are rich enough with life to not only sustain the small planet population of 15 million, but also export to nearby worlds and star systems, albeit not in enough quantity to change Kanrilia's classification to an Agri-World (Alpha class), due to its isolated position and unstable Warp routes.
The second are the feral Orks.
Being present on the planet for as long as humans have, they are located exclusively in the Iraximountains, at the centre of the continent.
Too busy fighting among themselves, they rarely leave the mountains to attack the human settlements, and when they do, these incursions are usually small and disorganized enough to be easily repelled by the local PDF.
In the latter months, however, the number of attacks has increased exponentially, becoming larger and coordinated enough to overwhelm the defences of the smaller communities, its inhabitants either killed or forced to evacuate.
With the PDF unable to put a stop to these assaults on their own, and under pressure from various political factions running the planet, the Planetary Governor was at last forced to call for Imperial help.
The Imperium's response, which would be sluggish on normal occasions, has been almost non-existant, the reason being the worsening situation across all the galaxy: the warp has been turning increasingly unstable, with the light of the Astronomican growing dimmer and becoming intermittent in the furthest reaches of the Imperium; countless worlds across the Imperium have been falling to anarchy and rebellion, even planets once thought secure – these events would later be remembered as The Night of a Thousand Rebellion-, causing entire astropathic choirs to collapse under the sheer number of distress signals and cries for help.
It was only due to a stroke of luck, or the will of the Emperor himself, (depending on who you asked), that Kanriliawasn't left to its own fate: a single, under-strength Imperial Guard regiment, the Arbanian Janissaries, the last survivors of a world lost 5 years prior to the Tyranids, was close enough to answer the call, alone against an unexpected threat of unknown proportions...
Years later, members of the Logos Historica Veritawould turn their attention on the battle fought on this world, both for the lasting changes brought on the planet itself, and for it being the first documented appearance of the one who would be known by many as "The Silver-Eyed Huntress".
But right now, Kanriliais an unremarkable world, one amongst countless others plagued by conflict and war in the Time of Ending, whose fate rest in the hands of few brave soldiers.
And of a single, innocent, soul, far away from her home.
