Me: i'll never update this
Me: *posts two chapters at once*
Danny had assumed that all his teachers had been briefed on his status as the resident halfa hero of Amity Park, but he was beginning to regret letting their Ectology teacher in on that information, because the dude just wouldn't stop staring at him. Danny would be walking down the hallway, minding his own business, when he would catch sight of Dr. Turmond nearby, and the man didn't even hide the fact that he was staring at Danny like he was some kind of specimen, a look Danny had been on the receiving end of for far too long and was not a huge fan of. It didn't help that now, whenever Dr. Turmond began to teach each day, he would always pause after each statement, as if waiting for Danny to correct him. It definitely didn't help that, ninety percent of the time, Danny or Sam or Tucker would end up actually having to correct him and inform the class on the updated status of certain theories. No, not all humans became ghosts, yes, the Ghost Zone was expanding at the same rate as the known universe (again, Danny had Technus to thank for his scientific knowledge of ectology).
Danny must have been the first ghost Dr. Turmond had ever encountered, because he nearly had a heart attack when Cujo showed up. The class had been proceeding as normal when Danny's ghost sense went off, leaving a taste in his mouth kind of like…
…like wet dog. Danny clenched his fists and braced for impact.
"—while each ghost had its own unique physiology, a common trait between ghosts is a lack of an internal or external skeleton in—oh no, oh GET DOWN!"
A small, slobbery ball of fur slammed into Danny and knocked him to the ground. Danny laughed, ruffling Cujo's fur and wincing as his face was covered with ecto-slobber.
"Cujo, Cujo! Calm down, okay? Calm down, I'm in class!" he laughed. Cujo happily bounced all over Danny before he caught sight of the desk directly behind Danny and let out a low growl.
"Oh boy." Valerie sucked in a breath and pushed her chair away from her desk as far as it could go. Cujo bared an impressive set of fangs that didn't seem to match his body, and suddenly the dog's legs were growing—
"Cujo!" Danny snapped, and the ghost dog turned to face him with a snarl on his face. "Down, boy, down." Cujo gave Danny literal puppy eyes, his head whipping back and forth between Danny and Valerie in confusion.
"Down…" Danny repeated, pointing towards the ground, and Cujo barked, reverting back to its normal form with a pop! Danny grinned, leaning down and scratching Cujo under his ear. "Good boy!" He reached into his pocket dimension and retrieved the dog's beloved squeaky toy. Cujo's eyes widened as big as baseballs.
"You want Mr. Cuddles?" he asked, holding the toy out in front of him. Cujo jumped up and down excitedly, slobber flying in every which direction.
"Oh, ew!" Paulina grimaced.
"You want Mr. Cuddles?" he asked again, and then muttered to himself, "Please let it work this time, please let it work this time…" and he made a tiny rip in the dimensional barrier. Danny had been practicing this a lot—creating ghost portals, that is. It was something he'd only recently learned about, and even Vlad seemed at a loss for where the power came from, but Danny was working to expand it. Currently, he could only make portals with a little over two feet in diameter, and only to his ghost palace, as it was the place in the Ghost Zone to which Danny was closest attuned. He was hoping that, maybe in a couple months, he'd be able to make portals to the Far Frozen. But, for now, little portals to Phantom's Keep would have to do.
"Go fetch!" Danny called out, tossing the toy into the portal, and Cujo immediately jumped in after it.
Danny didn't realize how much energy it took out of him to open up that portal until he banished it, and suddenly, he'd slumped back into his seat, feeling utterly spent. He lazily wiped off his face with an arm and glanced up, ready to apologize to his teacher about the interruption, but, upon looking up, Dr. Turmond was nowhere to be seen.
"Uh…" Danny wasn't really sure what the protocol was on this one. "Where's our teacher?"
"I-is it gone?" a trembling voice warbled, and their teacher's face popped up behind his desk.
Danny winced. Of course his teacher would freak out. Frankly, he was surprised the rest of his class had kept their cool, as he was pretty sure none of them had met Cujo before.
"I, uh…sorry. I swear he's supposed to be in the castle, but he must have stumbled across a natural portal." He scratched the back of his head. "I should probably tell Fright Knight to keep a tighter leash on him, I know, but the little guy can teleport, so it's kind of hard to keep him in line."
By this point, Dr. Turmond had crawled out from under his desk and stood back up.
"Dude, you have a pet ghost-dog?" asked Kwan, grinning from ear to ear.
"Ghost-demon, more like," Valerie mumbled under her breath.
"Hey, you used to hunt him, don't act like that attitude's coming out of nowhere," Danny pointed out. He glanced back at Dr. Turmond. The man opened his mouth, probably to scold Danny, when—
…prrrrrrrrIIIIIINGGGGGGG…
Saved by the bell. Danny wiped the last bit of slobber off of his face and onto his pants, ignoring the face Sam made when she witnessed this happen, and grabbed his books, exiting the classroom with a two-fingered salute.
The fact that a ghost like Cujo can teleport at will is absolutely terrifying to me, and I don't know how anyone in Amity Park can sleep at night knowing that doggo could show up at any moment.
