ONE MONTH LATER

Bella stared at the clock, willing it to move faster. It was only a Monday, and already she was ready for the weekend. Last class of the day. Bella thought. Just 30 more minutes. Senioritis was kicking in, and hard. It was mid-May, and graduation was looming. Bella chewed on the inside of her lip as she thought about all the grad announcements she had yet to send out. She had opted for no party, although Charlie tried to convince her otherwise. Suddenly, a note slid across the table toward Bella. She snapped out of her reverie and stared up at Mike who was her table partner. He looked impatiently from the note to Bella, and she reluctantly picked it up to read what it said.

Do you have a date to the dance? It read. Crap! Bella thought. The end of the year dance! Bella had completely forgotten about the overblown party the school threw for seniors every year. Mike looked hopefully at Bella as she wrote back: You know I have a boyfriend Mike, let it go. She slid it back across the table and watched his face fall as he read it.

"Why don't you ask Jessica?" she suggested instead. Mike looked at her puzzled.

"You think she'll want to go with me?" he asked doubtfully.

Good lord, the boy is oblivious. Bella thought.

"Absolutely," Bella replied. "She likes you Mike."

Mike's face lit up in a smile and he gave Bella's elbow a friendly nudge.

"Thanks," he said. I'll ask her after school!"

You owe me one Jessica. Bella thought sourly.

After class, Bella headed out to the parking lot where she immediately spied Jake's red rabbit.

"Thanks for picking me up," she said as she slid into the passenger seat.

"Of course. It's the least I can do while your truck gets fixed. How was school?" he asked, genuinely interested.

"It was okay," she replied. "You'll never guess who asked me to the end of the year dance," she said, laughing.

"What, that Mike kid?" Jacob replied. As they drove out of the parking lot, Bella spotted Mike and Jessica on the sidewalk. Mike grinned at her and gave her a thumbs up.

"Yeah, I pushed him off onto Jessica though, because I was hoping a different boy would wanna go with me," Bella said slyly. She peeked over at Jake whose face was lit up in his signature sunny smile. "So..will you go with me?" she asked, as if she didn't already know the answer.

"Hmm, I'd have to think about it," Jake said, jokingly. "Of course I'll go with you. When is it?"

"On Friday." Bella pulled out her phone and shot a text to Angela. Hey Ang! Do you wanna go dress shopping in Port Angeles tomorrow? She hit send and then clicked her phone off. Dress shopping, ugh. Bella thought. She thought back to the last time she had worn a dress, the junior prom. Alice had been so excited to play dress up that night, putting Bella in a custom made dress and heels that were 'wildly inappropriate' as Charlie had put it. Now it was nothing but a distant memory, and one Bella would rather forget.

"You okay Bells?" Jacob asked, looking at her, concerned.

"Uh..yeah," Bella stuttered. She pushed the thought of the Cullens out of her mind and stared out the window, watching the raindrops roll down it. "Just thinking about what I'm gonna wear."

"I don't think you've ever seen me in a suit," Jake mused. The thought of her hunk of a boyfriend in a suit sent a blush running up Bella's neck, and she secretly couldn't wait to show off her arm candy to all the other girls. Bella felt her phone buzz, and she pulled it out of her pocket. Sounds good, I'll pick you up after school! The text from Angela read.

The next school day passed slowly, and Bella was itching to get home. She didn't want to admit it to herself, but she was actually kind of excited to hang out with Angela. It had been a while since she'd had any girl time. Once again, Jake picked her up from school and dropped her at the house. When they arrived, Bella could see Angela's car waiting in the driveway.

Jake pulled up to the street and then got out of the car, circling around to open Bella's door.

"Quite the gentleman," Bella commented, going to peck him on the cheek. Instead, Jake caught her lips with his and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her tight to his body. He gently traced her upper lip with his tongue before pulling away, leaving Bella in a daze. After recovering, Bella grinned at Jake and then headed over to Angela's car.

"Geez, is it hot in here or is it just you two?" Angela joked as Bella slid into the passenger's side. They both watched as Jake pulled out of the driveway and blew Bella a kiss. "Seriously though, you guys are a power couple." Bella laughed, glad to be with her friend. With Angela, there was no need to fill awkward silence or make meaningless small talk, they just understood each other. As they pulled onto the road, Bella pulled out her phone and texted Charlie. Hey dad. It read. Remember I'm with Angela tonight in Port Angeles, can you fix something yourself for dinner? After a few minutes, a reply came through. Hey Bells, yeah I'll find something. Glad you're having a little girl time. Bella thought back to last year when Charlie was desperate for her to go out, socialize, do anything other than lie in bed.

"So, how are things with you and Jacob?" Angela asked, snapping Bella out of her reverie. Bella combed her fingers through her hair, not sure what to say. At times, she wished she could tell Angela everything. Tell her about the pack, about the imprint, but alas, she had a vow of silence over the whole thing. Instead she just said, "Good." Bella waited for more questions, but Angela wasn't the type to probe, something that Bella was eternally grateful for. "How about you and Ben?" Anglea pursed her lips, keeping her eyes on the road.

"Things are pretty great actually. On Sunday he came to my house with a bunch of his buddies and asked me to the dance. Signs and flowers and everything."

"That's so sweet," Bella sighed. "You're really lucky to have him."

"I am," Angela agreed. "Do you like country?" Angela asked, clicking on the radio.

"Yeah," Bella said. Though she would hate to admit it, Bella found herself listening to the country station embarrassingly often. For the rest of the drive, the two of them sang along to Maren Morris and Luke Combs, and before Bella knew it they were downtown. Angela pulled up in front of a little shop called Monique's Boutique.

"Ooh, those are so cute," Angela said, pointing to some dresses in the window as they walked up the steps. Once inside, the two of them went to work combing through the racks of dresses. A few caught Bella's eye, and she snagged them. After about 15 minutes of scouring the dress selections, the two of them headed to the back where the dressing rooms were.

"School dance?" the lady at the counter asked as she handed them their room numbers.

"Yeah," Bella and Angela said in unison.

"Well I hope you find something you like, those dresses are beautiful!" she commented.

"Thank you!" Bella said, heading to her room. She and Angela got rooms across from each other, at the very end of the long row of dressing rooms. Bella stripped down to her bra and underwear, and got an idea. She snapped a mirror pic of herself and then sent it to Jake, hoping to work him up. The first dress Bella tried was a maroon colored halter dress that was way too small, and though it made her boobs look good, she put it in the no pile.

"Bella, come and look at this one," she heard Angela call. She cracked the door open to see Angela admiring herself in the huge hallway mirror.

"Wow Ang, that one is great!" It was a navy blue column dress that fit Angela beautifully.

"You think?" she asked, twirling in the mirror.

"It's a yes from me," Bella said, heading back to her room to try on the next dress.

Angela had already picked out her dress and was at the register. After much deliberation, Bella decided that none of the dresses she had tried were right. She was about to give up when there was a knock at her door. Bella cracked it open to see the sales lady.

"Hello dear," she said. "This dress was on the return rack, I thought you might like it."

"Oh..uh, thanks," Bella said, taking the dress from her. It was a black maxi dress with spaghetti straps and a slit that went pretty far up. It was sexy, feminine, and it was gorgeous. Bella stepped into it and zipped it up, and then turned to look at herself in the mirror. Damn. Bella thought as she looked at herself. She was tempted to send Jake a picture, but she wanted him to be surprised. The dress hugged her in all the right places, and it made her boobs look good which was a plus. The slit in the dress ran up her leg, exposing it just enough to be classy. She spun around, looking at it from every angle. A knock sounded at the door.

"You almost done Bella?" Angela asked. "My dad wants me home in 30 minutes."

"Yeah, I think this is the one." Bella slowly opened the door and stepped out.

"Woah," Angela said, awestruck. "It's perfect."

"I know right," Bella said, doing a little twirl in the mirror. After some swooning, Bella changed back into her clothes and checked out.

"Jake is gonna lose his mind when he sees you in that dress," Angela said as they walked back to the car.

"So is Ben, that blue looks amazing on you Angela," Bella replied. As they drove back to Forks, the rain let up and the sky turned from grey to a dusky purple, and the sun started to go down.

"Thanks for coming with me," Bella said as they pulled into her driveway.

"Of course!" Angela said. "It was so fun! We should go out again soon."

"See you tomorrow!" Bella called as she walked up the steps to her house. Angela waved from the car, and then pulled out of the driveway, disappearing around the corner.
