"Oh god," Bella moaned, cracking her eyes open. Everything hurt. She could feel the pain radiating from her arm and leg, and she had a splitting headache. Even the tiniest movements sent pain shooting through her body. Jake was nowhere to be found and Bella groaned again, rolling herself over so that she could reach the pain medication that was sitting on her bedside table. She took a sip of water and downed two of the pills. Her phone lay on the table as well, and she picked it up. Squinting, she tried to read the text that was on her home screen, but the words were all scrambled. Right. Concussion. Bella thought begrudgingly. She could make out that it was from Charlie, and she tried to read it again, with no success. Just then she heard a banging coming from the kitchen and smiled. Of course Jake was trying to make breakfast. A few minutes later Bella heard footsteps on the stairs, and then Jake came into view, holding a tray. He stopped in the doorway and grinned.

"Breakfast in bed for my Bella," he said, smiling. He came in and set the tray down on Bella's desk before coming over to help her into a sitting position. Even with Jake's gentle manner, Bella winced as he gently helped her up and put the tray on her lap.

"Wow Jake," Bella said, looking at the food. There were scrambled eggs, bacon, and a hashbrown. "How did you find all this stuff? The kitchen is empty."

"I ran to the store this morning while you were still sleeping," he said with a smile. He sat down gently on her bedside as she ate.

"It's really good," she said through a mouthful of eggs.

"Good," he said. "How are you feeling?"

"Like shit," Bella responded, grimacing. She winced as Jacob sat down on the bed, rocking her slightly. He wore a pained expression as he took Bella's hand and gently kissed it. Seeing anyone in this type of pain would be bad enough, but to make things worse, Bella was Jake's imprint. Any time Bella was in pain, Jake felt it, like they were tied together with an invisible string. He hated that there wasn't more he could do.

"Charlie should be home by this afternoon," Jacob said, watching her eat.

"Speaking of," Bella said, "Can you read the text he sent me? All the words are jumbled and looking at a screen doesn't help."

Jacob picked up Bella's phone and read out, "Hey Bells, I'm on my way home right now, and should be home by one." Bella sighed and set her fork down.

"I hope he's not too worried," she said. She tried to shift her sitting position and cried out as pain washed over her. Jacob's face contorted in a pained expression as he watched her struggle.

"Do you need these?" he asked, grabbing the pill bottle from her bedside table.

"I already took some," she replied. "They just haven't kicked in yet."

"Here, I brought something that might help," he said, hopping up and leaving the room. He was back in a flash, holding a wheelchair. "It was one of Billy's old ones, he doesn't use it anymore," he explained, wheeling it up to Bella's bed. Her face brightened and she lifted her arms up towards Jake. Carefully, he picked her up from under the arms and lifted her out of bed, an easy task for him. She swung her good leg over the side of the bed and Jake set her down gently in the chair. She tested it out, tentatively wheeling forward and backward.

"It's not much but it's better than nothing," Jake said, rubbing the back of his neck.

"It's perfect," Bella said. She used her good hand to wheel out into the hallway and to the bathroom.

"You need any help?" Jacob called after her.

"No, I'm okay," Bella replied. She wasn't ready for that form of humiliation just yet. Jacob waited on Bella's bed while she used the bathroom, and when she came back she had managed to strip off her shirt.

"Can you help me change?" she asked, looking down.

"Of course, my Bella," he replied. She wheeled into the room and parked next to Jake. He got up and followed her instructions on where to find new clothes, and then he helped her out of her bra and pants. Getting a pair of shorts over her enormous cast was no easy task, but Jake patiently helped her. She picked out a purple sweatshirt and he helped her into that as well.

"I've got patrol in thirty minutes," Jake explained, though it pained him to leave Bella's side.

"That's ok!" she replied. "I'll keep myself busy." She picked up her copy of Romeo and Juliet and settled in. Jake kissed her on the forehead and then jumped from the window, leaving Bella to her book.

6 WEEKS LATER

"I'm going to Jake's!" Bella yelled down the hall.

"Ok honey, see you later!" Charlie called back. She grabbed her keys and headed out the door. It was a surprisingly nice summer day, and sunlight filtered down through the treetops as she drove to the reservation. The cast on her arm had been removed a week prior, and she was due to have the one on her leg removed in a week. Walking on it now caused little to no pain, and the doctors were happy with her improvement. When she pulled up to Jacob's house, she could see wolf-Seth in the yard. He sat on his haunches like a dog and Bella had to laugh at the sight.

"Hey Seth!" she called, hopping out of the cruiser. Ever since Bella's truck had been destroyed in the crash, she and Charlie had been sharing the cruiser. Seth hopped up, wagging his huge tail, and walked over to Bella. He bent his huge head down and Bella took it between her hands, planting a kiss on his huge, wet nose. Seth grumbled happily as she scratched his ears.

"Where's Jake?" Bella asked. Seth's ears pointed forward and he nodded his head toward the forest. "Still out on a run, huh?" Bella asked, sighing. She started walking toward the garage, but Seth jumped up and blocked her way. She laughed at first. "Seth, let me by!" she said, hitting him lightly on the shoulder. She tried to go around him but again, Seth stood in her way. "Fine," Bella said, defeated, sitting down in the long grass to wait for Jake. Seth let out a whine that almost sounded like "sorry", and lay down next to her, curling his huge body around her. She leaned up against his side and waited. It wasn't too long before Jake came loping out of the forest and into view. He and Seth communicated silently for a moment, and then Jacob let out a barking laugh. He paced over to Bella and extended his neck down to her level, licking her from chin to hairline.

"Jake! Gross!" she exclaimed, but she couldn't help but laugh. Jacob got up and walked behind the garage to phase. He pulled on a pair of grey sweatpants and then reappeared. Jacob walked over to Bella with a huge grin on his face. Had she forgotten something? Why were they acting so weird?

"I have a surprise for you," Jake said, his smile growing impossibly bigger.

"So that's what that was all about," she commented, giving Seth a death stare. He grumbled a laugh and gave her cheek a tiny lick.

"I've been working on this for a while," he started, walking over to the garage. Bella followed, her anticipation growing. "I really hope you like it."

He covered Bella's eyes with his huge hands and led her into the garage.

"Ta da!" he exclaimed, uncovering her eyes. In the garage sat a baby blue 1963 Chevy Stepside pickup.

"Jake!" she shrieked. "How did you find it?"

"It was just a scrap shell that I found, but I fixed it up real nice," he explained, leading her over to it. She excitedly hopped into the front seat.
"Wow Jake, this is perfect!" she said, running her hand over the smooth interior.

"I'm glad you like it, she's all yours!" Jake said, grinning.

"Thank you Jake, from the bottom of my heart," Bella said, looking into his eyes.

"Anything for my Bella," he said, leaning in and planting a soft kiss on her lips.
