Chapter 2
Hope
Age 761, September 12
Four years had passed since Son Gohan's birth.
Goku's child certainly proved interesting. He was a meek child in comparison to the fearless and adventurous warrior that Goku is and yet, Gohan's power was still something incomprehensible to him.
Unquestionably, the power that his son had displayed as an infant was beyond anything he had ever sensed, far surpassing his or the Daimao's reincarnation, Piccolo jr. It excited Son Goku. To think that his son had so much power from birth! A power that he hadn't thought possible before, how could he not be thrilled?
This pushed Goku to train far past his limit, in hope of reaching that height of power! He felt like he was still not quite there yet, but he was closing the gap. In many ways, his son's strength had fully revived the flame in Goku. Years passed and no one could challenge his power, a part of him was starting to grow bored. It was still something that he couldn't quite explain, his love of fighting that is.
Well, talking about Gohan, his strength was odd for one more reason. It was a theory for now, but he suspected that emotion played a great part in his child's strength. Ever since he began growing up, his unfathomable strength had... Diminished. He could barely sense anything impressive from him at this point. It was so frustrating for him!
However, it would occasionally resurface under certain emotions. He still remembered his surprise upon sensing that mind-blowing power resurfaces like a violent hurricane, only to vanish in a second!
For that reason, Goku had hoped to train his child in hopes of not only raising a formidable defender of the Earth but a great sparring partner for him. He wondered if it was a bit selfish of him for wanting to spar against his son in the future, but he really enjoyed fighting, and Son Goku always welcome a great challenge.
After all, he recalled Korin's words, and although he was still a bit intrigued by the white cat's statement, he hadn't bothered with asking more of him. Maybe it'd be worth asking more about that one day, but for now, he had a few things to do. He wasn't sure if he could convince Chichi to allow him to train Gohan, for some reason she was bent on not letting that happen! It had to do something with being a good member of society, he didn't understand that too well.
'I honestly don't understand why she wants me to not train him! ' He pouted just from thinking about it. Goku did remember something. She wanted him to become an orthopedic or whatever this was. Goku still had no idea what an orthopedic was! It was a bit disappointing to him that there was a chance that he would never be able to raise his son into a protector of Earth, like him, but he wasn't risking angering Chichi, she was terrifying enough!
For a moment, he laughed, thinking about what Chichi would do if he was bold enough to train their son in secret, and she somehow managed to find it out. She would probably kill him or come very close to doing it at the very least!
'Talking about Gohan, I wonder where he is?'
Small feet wandered through the forest of Mont Paozu. The child was shaking in his boots, but, he knew that he had to be courageous! He heard stories about his father's adventure from his mother and even the legendary Son Goku himself.
He wanted to be brave like him! And exploring the first step of Mont Paozu seemed like a logical first step for the child, the forest was large and scary. Gohan hated that he was frightened at the moment. He allowed himself to take a pause, observing the horizon.
'I-I'm sure Daddy wasn't like that. I have to be strong!' And so he pushed through. It was with that in mind that the young child continued exploring the forest.
He hadn't warned his mother or father, so he was essentially on his own. Maybe it was part of the reason that he was so scared? Gohan began to regret his decision after hearing steps stirring closer to his ears, too close to his taste; he tilted his head around in concern, hoping that he hadn't caught the ire of a monster. For a moment, it didn't seem to be the case.
"H-Hello? I-Is there anyone here? " He wasn't met with an answer, merely a growl, but it wasn't that deep. He wasn't aware what sort of creature was currently hunting him, but judging by that growl, he assumed it to be of a decent size. His eyes swelled with tears. Instinctively, Gohan called out for the only person that he knew capable of dealing with whatever this creature was. "D-Daddy."
However, he was not attacked by any monster, or rather, the monster directly showed up to him, panting as its eyes meet Gohan's black orbs. It seemed equally terrified, but its eyes were similar to him.
Maybe it was him being stupid, to think that a monster could display the same emotions like a human, but it truly appeared to be the case.
'He needs my help...? ' Gohan asked himself, whimpering, but gazing at the beast. "D-Do you want me to help you?" The beast seemed a bit hesitant, but it slowly nodded.
Gohan gasped in surprise! He hadn't expected it to understand him. He took a deeper look at it, and it looked like a blue dragon, a small one at that but still a dragon.
The dragon did not understand why, but it sensed great power within Gohan, even if the child seemed weak, something about him was telling it that he had an unfathomable strength. Perhaps such was due to its predator's sense.
Waving its tail, it began to walk, slowly at that, mainly to see if Gohan was following. He was a bit uncertain.
'Maybe I should follow. ' Sure, he was scared, but he couldn't help but think about his father's tale. He would have helped this creature, and so for that reason, Gohan would too.
And so, he followed...
They roamed further inside Mont Paozu's forest, the dragon was especially hasty and it was quite fast at that. Still, to Gohan's surprise, he wasn't struggling that much with keeping up, he even felt like he could go a little faster if necessary but he didn't.
It was after minutes that they stumbled upon a brutal scene. There was another dragon, a pink one. It seemed much larger than the one accompanying Gohan, but it was bleeding. In front of it was a large dinosaur which, despite its size was fast enough to not allow the Dragon to fly away. It had a few wounds, notably bites. The dinosaur seemed angry.
Gohan heeded the smaller, infant dragon.
'Judging by his reaction, it could be his mother...' No, he was certain that he was correct on that... He figured that it escaped the dinosaur's wrath, probably thanks to its mother, and sought his help after stumbling upon him.
'B-But how could I help him? ' That dinosaur was amazingly large and terrifying. He was scared and shaking already. The monster tilted its head toward Gohan and his smaller friend. It was able to smell them.
He could have sworn it smirked upon seeing Gohan and the blue dragon.
Gohan's furry tail swayed as he moved back, scared as always. "I-It's gonna kill us..." He whispered. The dragon heard him, but unlike Gohan, it didn't plan to falter this time, not after seeing its mother like this! Mustering its courage, it growled at the dinosaur. The dragon knew that it was stupid, but he couldn't care less. It hadn't taken long for the dinosaur to see that as an attempt to challenge it, and without hesitation, the monster yelled. The sound reverberated throughout the forest.
Without a second thought, the dinosaur charged toward Gohan and the dragon. It was fast, but the mother's instinct kicked in, and she found the strength to move, tackling Gohan and her child out of the way.
She took the full force of the hit, and Gohan could have sworn that he heard the sound of bones cracking as the pink dragon collapsed against the ground, no longer moving.
The implication was too much for the little dragon to bear, hot tears trickled down its cheeks, ready to charge, but he was held back by Gohan who similarly, began to cry. "S-Stop. We have to run!"
They wouldn't survive against this thing, he was certain that his friend's mother was dead, but he didn't want that fate for him or her child. The only solution seemed to run away. However, his small companion was brave, more so than him. It struggled, but it managed to find the strength to release itself out of Gohan's hold before rushing. With everything it had, it began to bite the dinosaur who grunted in pain. The child's strength was nowhere near his mother so it was easier to withstand. With a flick of its body, the dragon was rammed against a tree.
Still, it didn't stop the brave dragon from trying to avenge its mother. It desperately continued to bite the dinosaur, but it was smashed against the tree which began to collapse. Gohan observed as the dragon was being beat down. "S-Stop..." His words came out weak, barely audible at that. The monster did not react and prepared to kill the brave creature.
However, Gohan was reaching his breaking point. "I SAID STOP!"
SNAP
The sound of broken bones was heard as the dinosaur fell to its death, a hole gapping through its stomach. Gohan was confused. He suddenly found himself near the dragon, a part of the forest destroyed. His companion was shaking, but at the same time was looking at him, dumbstruck.
What just happened?
Unknown to Gohan, Goku had been watching. He recently arrived, but he was able to see Gohan's display of rage and power. It was brief, but his son was covered with a green aura, and with a speed that he thought impossible, the dinosaur was hit by a mighty strike.
The first blow was enough to kill it, yet Gohan hadn't stopped in his rage. His son viciously opened his mouth, and in an instant, a bright, green sphere flared to life before it came out as a powerful beam that damaged Mont Paozu's forest.
Afterward, Gohan had tilted his head toward the dragon, seemingly about to continue his rampage, but before anything terrible could happen, he stopped. Following that, his son seemed genuinely confused about what happened.
With crossed arms, Goku descended, landing near his son and his dragon's friend. Gohan took a brief moment to look at him. "D-Daddy?" Without hesitation, he ran off to his arms, crying. Goku smiled slightly before ruffling his son's hair. "C'mon big guy, calm down. You are fine."
"I-I was so scared, daddy." He genuinely thought he was gonna die, and seeing that the dinosaur was dead, he could only assume one thing. "Y-You saved me and..." Gohan paused, he didn't know the dragon's name. It wasn't like he could ask it, and he doubted it had one, to be honest.
Goku pondered telling Gohan that the one who killed the dinosaur was him, but after a moment, he refused to do this. "Yeah, I'm sorry for being late." Gohan's dragon recognized his lie and began grunting, but Goku shook his head. It somewhat understood what he had in mind. He hated lying, but he didn't know how Gohan would feel knowing that he killed a creature, dinosaur or not.
"C'mon, kid, let's go home. We can't let your mother be too worried. " His child was still crying, but he found the strength to look at the dragon.
"C-Can he comes too? He's alone..."The dragon had just lost his mother. Gohan felt responsible for that and wanted to help.
"Sure thing son, but we'll have to ask your mother first." Well, Goku hoped that Chichi would understand.
Gohan removed himself from his father's arms. "C-Could I name you?" He said, still a bit shaky due to what happened. The dragon hesitantly nodded. "Alright..." A name would make things easier for them.
He already had an idea.
"What about Icarus?" Although the dragon was mourning, it found the strength to slightly smile.
'Icarus... I-I won't let any harm come to you!'
He sincerely hoped that he'd be able to keep this promise.
Planet Vegeta, Age 761, September 12.
Years had passed since Kakarot's departure. In the end, Bardock had been wrong; since then, her relationship with him deteriorated. She wished to retrieve her son more than anything, but her mate would always refuse, saying that it wouldn't be worth it or that Kakarot would die.
To be honest, he had his reason. Kakarot was born a low-class soldier, but it was her child! And who Bardock could be to judge their son, he himself was a low-class.
It seemed unfair to Gine, who started wondering whether Bardock hated their child. Even as a low-class, his power level at birth had been beyond pathetic. Some would even laugh in their face for having such a weak son, wondering how their eldest could be a mid-class if his brother was so pathetic.
Gine was no warrior, but she knew how to fight. She was occasionally beat up for that, although she couldn't care less. No one was disrespecting her son!
She expected him to be an adult, maybe not with a child due to his nature as a Saiyan, hell, it was most likely that her child was alone on a planet that had likely purged himself! She didn't want that for Kakarot, but she couldn't deny her people's nature. Even if he hadn't been sent to Earth to destroy it, Saiyan liked to destroy and fight.
She and Bardock frequently argued for that, and with no surprise, they were currently on it. "Do you have any idea how old he may be now, Bardock?" She was counting the years!
Bardock was embarrassed, but he wouldn't outright say that he had no idea how old his son was. "I told you Gine, we cannot do this. You have to understand, Kakarot is better off away from us, from our people." He loved Gine; it took him a while, but he also loved his sons. Of course, he would never say it.
"You are not giving him a chance, Bardock. You never did..." Gine was holding back her tears at this point."H-He's twenty-four, possibly alone. " That terrified Bardock too. His son was probably alone on a planet that he had purged himself, but it was better than coming back here.
"But he's alive Gine, he's safe." And it was all that mattered for the low-class warrior, but Gine didn't take it like that. "What if he's dead?"
Surely, it must be impossible. The earth was a planet full of weaklings, even Kakarot would be able to handle them, but what if he was found as a baby... What if he was murdered?
'Hopefully, I'm wrong about this.'
Bardock hesitated for a moment. He had never taken that into consideration, perhaps because he refused to. "He's not dead. I'm sure of it. I'm done with that stupid argument, Gine." He had a mission to complete, and he'd have to depart soon. He couldn't allow her to distract him any longer.
"Bardock, I swear. If our son is dead, I'll never forgive you." Her words rang for a moment before he shook his head.
'He's not dead, I'm sure of it.'
Shortly after Bardock exited, and because she had enough, Gine decided that she'd do what she should have done years ago.
Soon, the Saiyan would be supplied with new ships. She wasn't allowed to use them, but she knew someone that may, it was why she headed to his home.
It was her eldest son, Raditz. He was a mid-class warrior, with long hair that reached his knees. She wondered how her son could fight with all that hair. But still, Raditz was one of the lucky ones that had the chance of being in Prince Vegeta's squad. She was proud of her son, and she knew that if one person could help her, it'd be him.
Raditz was surprised to see his mother. She didn't visit often after all. He had a home and lived alone. He had no mate of his own yet, it wasn't that he wasn't interested, but most of the time, he was busy completing missions with Prince Vegeta and General Nappa. "Mother, it's great to see you."
Honestly, Raditz didn't care that much about Gine, but it was his mother, and he respected her. In contrast, he knew that she did care about him, but lately, she was too busy thinking about her youngest son. "Raditz, I'll need you."
That certainly wasn't usual.
"It's about Kakarot. I want you to bring him home."
Earth
Goku, Gohan, and Icarus were heading toward their home. Goku and Gohan were riding the nimbus and Icarus followed closely. However, it was after sensing a familiar sensation that Goku paused.
'Goku!' That voice. There was no mistake about it, it had to be Kami.
A slight smile formed as he remembered his old mentor. 'Hey Kami, what's up? ' Well, Son Goku wasn't known for being respectful, but Kami was genuinely used to that.
'I am pleased, despite all of those years, you have not changed, Son Goku. ' But Kami hadn't taken the liberty to communicate with him to remind himself of a time where Son Goku was a young boy seeking to train under his guidance.
'It's about that power I sensed. ' That strength was beyond anything Kami had ever felt, and although he was certain that he sensed it before, it had never been that high and violent. It was a complete contrast to how Goku's energy was.
Earth's hero paused for a moment. 'It was my son's, Gohan.'
If Goku could see his face, he would certainly have seen the surprise in Kami's eyes. 'And how old is the boy?'
'Four years old. ' Son Goku quickly answered. Kami himself couldn't believe it, but it seemed like Earth's hero was being sincere. Four years old and that child already wielded power beyond anything in this world.
'Then you must understand the implication of this, my boy. There is no doubt that my other half must have sensed it. Piccolo will certainly be interested in that power. I can feel that he sought to execute his revenge, and that'll come soon. ' Goku nodded. It always surprised him that Piccolo hadn't done anything yet; with Gohan's power being known by him, that could change.
'If he strikes, then I'll stop him. I won't let him harm my son or attempt anything to endanger him or Chichi. ' Goku said, more serious than ever. The answer somewhat pleased the Guardian of Earth.
'But you alone may not be enough. I'll contact your friends, to begin training under my guidance. I hope that they'll show promising results like you. ' Son Goku was a bit surprised at that.
'I'm sure I'll be enough Kami, y'know, I'm much stronger! ' It wasn't even him being arrogant! He was far stronger and with him knowing Gohan's strength, he pushed his body to the breaking point. He was sure that he could handle Piccolo alone.
'I do not doubt this, Goku, but Piccolo is full of surprises. It'd be better to not underestimate him. ' Son Goku did not refute that.
'Alright Kami, I'll have to cut our discussion now, Gohan is probably wondering why I haven't moved for a while! ' To be honest, he was a bit excited about hearing that Piccolo could strike in the future. He had been waiting to fight against him for a while.
"Did something happen, dad?" Gohan uttered, his black orbs staring at him.
"Not yet."
Kami's lookout
The conversation with Son Goku certainly went well. He was still shocked that a four-year-old child could wield that much raw power, but perhaps it was to be expected of the son of Goku; admittedly, he was worried. The child's power seemed raw and uncontrollable, he was certain that one day, he'd have to help that child.
But it wasn't the only thing worrying the guardian.
'Something terrible is about to be unleashed upon us. ' And Piccolo wouldn't be the cause of it. He knew that Goku would be able to handle him. He was preparing those humans for something else. 'I hope that they'll be ready.'
There was no other choice for Kami.
To be continued.
The chapter is titled hope, so I hope you enjoyed it lol. The next one is gonna introduce an important character and should set up a big fight!
