Tilt a Whirl

"Please don't call me that. Call me whatever you want but not that." Hyde makes his way over to Donna's bed, where a devastated Jackie is sitting facing away from him. He remembers the last time she called him that.

Flashback:

It was right after he told her about the nurse. "Jackie, I told you about what I did, doesn't that count for anything? I don't want to break up. I mean I even told you that I loved you. You know that's a big step for me."

"Hyde I already told you that I don't love you anymore, what else do you want from me? Do you think that just because you say that you love me I should just fall at your feet?

"Jackie, do not call me Hyde. It's Steven to you." As long as she was using his first name he knew that he had a chance to make things right with her. If he let her start calling him Hyde it would be over between them.

Jackie knows why he doesn't like her calling him Hyde, but right now at this moment she doesn't care. Why should she care about hurting his feelings? He obviously doesn't give a shit hurting her.

Jackie looks up "I don't feel like talking right now. Why don't you go back to your wife and have a fucking nice life, Hyde. Just forget all about me, it doesn't seem like you have much trouble in that department." Jackie can't believe the rollercoaster her life has been. How could Steven do this to her? He took her dream and rubbed it in her face. And with a skank!

Hyde is going to explode. "Forget you, like that's possible. I tried for almost three fucking weeks to do just that. No matter how hard I tried to get you out my mind all I could think about is you and Fucking Kelso in that motel room! "

Jackie screams,"I Told you nothing happened!"

"Put yourself in my shoes Jackie. I'm telling you that I'm not married to that girl, but do you believe me? No you don't. But I chose to believe you when you say nothing happened with Kelso in that motel room. I was honest with you and I told you about Sam before she showed up. Now I am asking you to do the same for me. Just this once believe me when I tell you that I'm not married."

Jackie wants to run away from this nightmare. Her life is a circus.

Hyde sits down close to her but not too close. He begins rubbing the back of his neck, something he's known to do when he's stressed. Turning to her all he can do is tell her exactly what he feels.

"Jackie, There is only you for me. For three weeks I tried to drink and smoke you out of my life and I couldn't do it. I would pass out thinking about you, and wake up thinking about you. I used Sam to block you from popping up, but it didn't work." Jackie is the only chick he ever came close to marrying. She is the only one who has ever broken down all his walls. "Look after you left Mrs Forman called my dad. WB and Red showed up. My dad said he was going to call his lawyers. I got the feeling that neither the Forman's or my dad believe that girl."

Jackie wants to believe Steven more than anything in the world. She wants to forget the last hour but what good would it do? Here she is pregnant and her boyfriend is married to a stripper. So not only is she an unwed mother, but now she is the other woman, a tramp. A homewrecking jezebel. "Don't you see, I cannot take the chance of being a whore? Holding her hand up to stop Steven from interrupting her' "You are married to that woman and I won't be the kind of girl who shacks up with a married man,no matter how much I love you. " Jackie turns away trying to stop her tears from falling.

Hyde cannot stand himself right now. How could he do this to her. She doesn't deserve this shit. They have both made mistakes but she is always the one that gets hurt the most. God he does not deserve her, but he already knows that he cannot let her go, not again . He's made that mistake a few times already and he's not letting her go again. He reaches out to her and this time Jackie doesn't move away. Hyde reaches up and grabs her face. He turns her so that they are face to face. "You are not a whore, you are a beautiful, thoughtful, smart woman who deserves better than me. I am sorry that I have made mistake after mistake Grasshopper. But this time I'm not walking away. I can't.

Jackie's tears are falling freely now. A small sob escapes upon hearing his pet name for her. Hyde pulls her into a hug and she lets herself get wrapped up in his arms. She doesn't have the strength to pull away. Looking at him breaks her heart, but she has to find the strength to let him go. "Steven, you are off the hook. Just because I'm having a baby doesn't mean we have to be together. We can find a solution that works best for everybody."

Hyde can't believe what he's hearing. "Jackie, first of all I don't want to get off the hook. YOU are my chick. Any doubt I have about us being together and having a kid is my crap from the shit life Edna and Budd piled on me as a kid. I just don't know if I can be a good father, but I went to see Red today and we had a good talk. He reminded me that just because I had crap parents doesn't mean I will be like them. " Hyde has to fix this crap with Sam so he can show Jackie that he's ready to be there for her and the baby.

"Can we go talk to my dad? We can even take Donna and Fez if you want so you don't have to be alone with me. I know I don't have the right to ask you for any favors, but I need your help too. I can't do this without you." Hyde knows he's asking a lot but he got the feeling that WB knew something. He wants to go see his Dad but he doesn't want to leave Jackie out of his sight.

Jackie feels like she is on the tilt a whirl at Funland. She remembers some advice Mrs Forman had given her before, She told Jackie to pick her battles. Mrs Forman probably never imagined anything like this but she was right. Jackie could either choose to believe what Steven was saying and she could fight for what she wanted, or she could walk away from him. And that thought there caused her pain deep inside. She had lost him before, and she knew that to lose Steven again would be too much to bear. Especially now. "Okay let's go see if Donna and Fez want to tag along."

As Hyde and Jackie walk towards the bedroom door he can't help but notice that she keeps her distance from him. He closes the distance between them and reaches for her hand. He's surprised when she lets him take her small hand into his. He tries to pull her into a hug when she surprises him even more.

Jackie stands on her tippy toes and kisses Hyde. She pulls away just as quickly and looks him straight in the eyes, "Steven, I will help you, but if you are married to that stripper, I don't think I will ever forgive you.." She tugs a silent Steven Hyde to the door. She opens the door and is surprised to see Fez, Donna, and Mr Pinciotti all standing there with tears in their eyes.

A very distraught Bob gives Jackie a hug and walks to his room crying the whole way. Jackie and Hyde ask Donna and Fez to go with them to Milwaukee to see WB. Hyde knows that they are going for Jackie's sake rather than his, but he doesn't care. Right now he needs to keep her close and safe. They all walk back over to the Forman's to borrow the Vista Cruiser.

Red and Kitty are sitting at the kitchen table. They are a little surprised to see the kids all together. Kitty lets out her trademark nervous laugh. Red looks at the group giving Steven a stern stare "Well just when I think you can't get any dumber you go and pull this shit. Just what we're thinking Steven?"

"Red you're right I am a dumbass, but I'm not married to that woman. And I'm going to prove it.

"Well if you had been where you were supposed to be we wouldn't be in this mess now. You have got to stop running from your problems and face them. Or at the very least learn how to hide in the garage like a real man"

"You are right, Red and that's exactly what I'm trying to do. This is my mess Red and I'm going to fix it."

"No Steven, that's where you are wrong. You see we are family and we are going to fix this, together. Kitty just pointed out something interesting about your friend from Vegas, we need to go see WB and see what he makes of it."

They all load up into the car. The Formans up front, Donna , Jackie and Hyde in the back seat and a slightly pissed off Fez in the very back. Hyde can't help but notice that Jackie kept her distance from him.

As they make their way to WB's office in Milwaukee Jackie drifts off to sleep, putting her head on Donna's shoulder. Donna waits to make sure Jackie is sleeping soundly and she finally looks at Hyde who is watching Jackie sleep. "You know this is the kind of crap I would expect Kelso to pull, but not you. How the hell do you go off and marry a stripper?" How could you do that to Jackie" Donna seethes. "I'm so gonna kick your ass if you can't fix this. No one, and I mean no one is going to leave my best friend alone and pregnant!"

Hyde looks away from Jackie just long enough to answer a very angry Donna. "Look if I can't fix this, and I lose Jackie, I'll do you one better, I'll let you kick my ass."

Fez can be heard from the back, "sonofabitch"
