Constructive criticism is very welcome.

Welp. I am not dead. Soooooo...
Yeah, I know, it's been a while. A long, long, LONG while since I wrote or updated.

But there were a lot of things in my life I had to sort out. First college, yeah, can't say it's easy to graduate when you major in Tourism, and then a virus comes along and messes it up completely. So that was FUN!

But anyway, I wanted to say sorry for not being able to update or write for a long time. I'll try to keep myself writing this story to the end. I still mean it when I say that I will try to finish it. It's not dead until I say so.

Also note: I will be changing the style in which I write, since the story is in first-person, thinking or thoughts will just be written normally without 'this'. It just makes sense to me. I am only experimenting at the moment so if you think I should change something, let me know. Also, let me know if you want POV changes or not.

Now without further introduction welcome to the story. Also this is the third time I am reuploading this file, because the last one got scrambled.

Chapter 4 Blessing in disguise

All truth passes through three stages.

First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed.

Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.
-Arthur Schopenhauer

It was the dead of night. I looked at the clock. 4. 44 AM... yaaaaaaay. I tossed and turned, turned my pillow, threw the blanket on the floor, yet I couldn't get any sleep.

*Sigh* "Fuck this." I got up, changed into my city get-up, and opened the window. I packed a backpack with a mask, because hey, you never know, and climbed out. Only to stop when I was about halfway through.

I turned back towards my room "Sorry... mom." I imbued my legs with the strength of a grasshopper and the rest of my body with the power of a dung beetle.

I dropped down to the ground floor, walked towards the park, and then jumped. That feeling never got old. It was like flying... flying?

..

FLYING! I landed on a random rooftop and quickly focused on my back.

"Come on, come on..." And four wings grew out "YES!" I quickly put my hand on my mouth to shut myself up. I looked around to see if anyone heard me. Sure I was on a roof, but I wasn't taking any chances. I looked back at my back to see a pair of dragonfly wings. I smiled and looked towards the edge.

"Ok... ok, ok you got this." I told myself. I opened my backpack and took out the mask. It was a simple mask, but hey, it's the thought that counts. I put it on and again focused on my back. I focused on the newly created muscle groups.

At first, they just laid there, not even moving an inch. I tried again, this time getting a slight jiggle in response.
"Ok, once more." I said to myself, this time the wings moved, and when I say moved, I mean MOVED.

"FUuuuuuu-" I flew high into the sky "SHIIIIIIIIT!" This was not what I had in mind.
Fun fact - Dragonflies can travel at 100 body lengths per second in forward flight, and three lengths per second backwards. In general, large dragonflies like the hawkers have a maximum speed of 36 to 54 km/h (22–34 mph) with an average cruising speed of about 16 km/h (9.9 mph).

Which you can imagine is fucking fast when you're human-sized.

I was flying way too high. I mean I was already above the clouds, and the constant buzzing wasn't helping. So I tried to angle myself forward, which backfired, and now I was speeding towards the earth like a meteor.

"Fuck, ok, slight movements." Nothing. The ground was growing ever closer "COME ON!" I closed my eyes. The sharp winds from before vanished, instead, there was a gentile, constant breeze on my face. I opened my eyes.

The city light looked so beautiful from the sky. So small yet so lively.
"WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. No one was going to hear me up here. Up here it was just me, the moon, and the clouds. I could train until my heart's content.

I practiced flying left and right, up and down, how to slow down or speed up. It was fun.

I flew down so that I could fly between buildings. Dangerous yes, but exhilarating. I flew high into the sky, above the buildings, and then above the clouds, looking down at the city. The lights illuminated the streets like stars in the sky.
It was peaceful.

Nothing eventful happened that night. Or the night after that. I went out, I trained, I came back, I slept.

That was until, around a week before the U.A. entrance exam, something happened.

[A week before the U.A. entrance exam]

I was flying above some buildings, and training to have multiple transformations on at the same time.

"Dragonfly wings, check. Diabolical ironclad beetle shell, check. Bat ears...Hnnnnnnng." I closed my eyes as I focused to maintain the current form of defense and speed, while also gaining better senses.

"Come... on... ears... change!" I grunted, as my ears slowly but surely changed form.

"YES!" Poof and the ironclad defense was gone.
"FUCK!" I yelled as I landed on a roof. Why! Why is this so fucking hard to maintain. I need to master this power BEFORE attending U.A. so that I can be better than everyo- I mean, so that I can protect them... yes.

"Help me..." Suddenly I heard a voice. It sounded muffled and distorted. I moved my ears, currently in their bat forms, to locate where it came from.

"HELP MEEE-!" It had gotten louder and then it cut out completely. But luckily, I located the direction the voice was coming from. I flew toward the source and came upon an alleyway. Of course, it's an alleyway, it's ALWAYS an alleyway!

I walked around for a moment until my feet started making slushing noises. I looked down.

Red. So much... red. It was a dark crimson fluid and I already knew what it was. I followed the trail of blood and saw someone sitting there, his back leaned against the wall.

Please don't be what I think you are "Hello?" Please, no... "Are you alright?" I didn't touch him. From his still open eyes, I could deduce that he was dead. I imbued my arms and hands with the power of the mantis shrimp. You know just in case. And also since I now had an exoskeleton on my hands, no fingerprints, so yay.

By the clothes he was wearing, or should I say, the costume he was wearing, I could deduce that this was a hero. A dead hero.

"Who are you?" I asked him, of course not expecting a response. I started rummaging through his pockets until I found an ID card. His hero license. On the card, there were a few numbers written on it, as well as his hero name and agency.

"The policing hero, Cop-out." I read. Thank god he wasn't someone from canon, but that doesn't mean that I could let my guard down. I had my mask up, but I quickly put a cap I had in my backpack on my head just in case. I also pulled up the hood of my hoodie.

I looked at the puddle to see my reflection. Great, I definitely looked, "innocent". I got up and started walking away. Let's just hope no one else heard his scream.

"HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!" Yelled a cop.

OH, COME ON! Now!? Of all the places and times, a cop showed up now!? I turned around. It was the detective. Well... shit. Yeah, no, this is just great. I imbued my legs with grasshopper abilities and the rest of my body with ironclad beetle defense.

Quick science lesson. A diabolical ironclad beetle, which looks like a rock-skinned rouche from hell, has the toughest exoskeleton out of all insects. It can take a crushing force that is almost 40,000 times its body weight.

So yeah, a tough little fucker.

I jumped away, startling the cop. As I leaped away, I could hear him radio for backup. Have to get away and hide.

Suddenly a strong force hit my back, sending me rocketing towards the pavement. I would have been dead, had I not transformed myself beforehand.

"What the fuck was that?" I asked as the force of my impact created a huge dust cloud. Suddenly a strong force dispersed the cloud just as quickly.

"Now now, no need to become a fugitive, just surrender quietly, and this will all be over." Why is that voice so familiar. I got to my feet and looked in front of me, or well, up since I was in a crater.

Red, white and blue costume, with yellow boots and vambraces. Blond hair going into a V at the front. I. WAS. SO. DEAD.

"I am so dead." I said as a small imaginary solder, in my image, appeared on my shoulder and saluted me. Why, out of all people, why would he show up.

..

Oh right... Detective Naomasa... Well, shit!
"The police would like to talk to you." Said All Might holding his iconic hero pose. Think Masaru think, what can I say to prove my innocence.

"I didn't do it!" I said as I held my hands in the air... genius.
*Sigh* "Guess I'll have to bring you in." Said All Might as he disappeared from my sight. Where did he g- A sudden immense force hit the back of my neck, pushing me out of the crater and into a building billboard.

..

"OW!" I yelled as I got back to my feet. If I didn't have the exoskeleton, I would either be dead or... nope, I would be dead.

"Huh, that usually works." Said a voice behind me. I quickly turned around, only to be greeted by a fist to my stomach. I went shooting into the sky, like a god damn rocket. I swear I left smoke trails.

I suddenly felt my back hit... water!? How far did that freak send me!? We were in the center of Tokyo, yet he hit me to the port!? I was slowly starting to sink. Bugs and insects are known for their durability, strength, speed, agility, and flight. You know what the ironclad beetle isn't known for.

SWIMMING!

I quickly shifted forms to that of an aquatic creature. A shark will do for now. But as I swam towards the surface something immensely strong hit me in my sides, definitely breaking some of my ribs.

I was pushed out of the water, and onto the dock. I spat out the water that was still stuck in my lungs and shifted out of my shark form.

"Well, well, well, what do we have here." I looked to my left side to see a pair of blue flippers walk in my direction. Seal hero Selkie. Shit! Him too!?

"Hello there Selkie, mind if I take him off your hands?" Said All Might. I swear to god I was starting to hate him.
"Not at all, All Might, he's all yours." Said Selkie

I was tired and in pain. I just wanted to go home and sleep, forever if possible. So when I felt a hand grab my shoulder and turn me around, I only had one idea left.

"A-a-all Might..." I said in a strained whisper. Removing my mask, I did my best to look as meek as possible "Please, h-help me..." I said as tears started flowing down my cheeks.

"Y-young Midorya!?" By the shocked expression he had, I believe Izuku forgot to mention he had a twin brother or he didn't notice my white highlights. Lucky.
I quickly spat a black liquid into both the heroes' eyes. Luckily All Might was too shocked to react in time and Selkie didn't get a good look at all since All Might was blocking his line of sight.

"Gah!" Both the heroes gasped. Squid ink. The best thing to blind your enemies. I quickly jumped into the water and shifted into the form of a mimic octopus. I noticed a sewer line that was connected right under the dock. Gross, but convenient.

I quickly squished through the bars when I heard a body hit the water. I didn't stop as fists banged on the metal. I looked back to see Selkie the seal hero, try to pry them open. He is strong, but those bars are reinforced steel. I doubt that he can break them in time. The current in the pipes took me straight to the sewers.

"Ew ew ew ew ew ew..." I kept repeating while I got up. I looked at my phone... which was in pieces. I looked at my watch... which wasn't waterproof.

"What time is it anyway!?" I walked until I found a ladder. I lifted the sewer cover, to be greeted by the sun slowly rising beyond the horizon.
FUCK!

"Shit, shit, shit..." I quickly ran towards home, shifting my legs into their grasshopper forms, and started jumping the rest of the way.

As I arrived at the apartment complex, I quickly looked around, checking if the coast was clear, which it was, so I just sprinted to the side of the building where my window was located.

I used my grasshopper legs to jump up to the window, thankfully training them gave me very good control of the power output of my jumps, so I landed on the window edge perfectly. But as I made my way inside, I looked towards the room, my eyes made contact with a darker green color.
It was my mom, looking at me with shock.

"Uuuuuuuum... surprise?" I was waiting for her to yell or scream.
*Plop*

..

"Mom?" She fainted.

[4 hours later - living room]

*tick-tock**tick-tock**tick-tock**tick-tock*
A slow, almost melodic ticking filled the room. Izuku, my mom Inko, and I were sitting in the living room. None of us spoke. Hell, even if I wanted to, what was I supposed to say? "Hey mom, sorry for not obeying you. I went out and became a wanted criminal by doing absolutely nothing." Yeah, no way.

*Sigh* "Since when?" It was my mom who finally broke the silence.
"What?" I asked, "Since when did you know you had a quirk." Right, "quirk". I thought about lying, but as my mom was now, I don't think she'll trust me.

"Since the hospital, right as you guys left." I said, suddenly finding my hand very interesting.
"For that long?" She sounded heartbroken. And I couldn't blame her "When were you planning on telling us, telling me?" She wanted the truth, I'll give her the truth.

"I wasn't planning on telling you until I passed the U.A. entrance exam." I still couldn't look at her "The exam, which is a week away? You weren't even going to tell us you were going there?" She asked, getting more and more upset.

..

"No." I answered. It was true, I wasn't planning on getting caught at all, but it seems that this world has other plans.

"WH-"*Knock, Knock, Knock* Her most likely rant was cut short by strong knocks on the door. She looked towards the door, then towards me, then back at the door.

She made her way towards the apartment entrance when she heard the one thing that no mother wants to hear.

"Hello, open up police!" She gasped at what the voice said. She quickened her pace and opened the door. I stood up and walked forward so that I could see who it was. It was detective Naomasa.

"We would like to talk to your son, Izuku Midoriya." Said the detective. Both mom and Izuku were as pale as ghosts.
*Sigh* "Right." I said to myself "I'm the one you want. Masaru Midoriya." I said as I walked forward.

"We need you to come with us." He said putting his hand on, what I presumed was his gun "There is no need for that, I'll come quietly." I said putting my hands forward for them to be cuffed.

The detective put the cuffs on and stepped to the side to escort me to the car. Before he closed the door I looked at my mom and said "I'll be back soon."

I looked around and spotted a couple of heroes on different rooftops.
"Great."

[Police station]

The ride to the station was done in silence. I was escorted into the station and then to the famous interrogation room. I was cuffed to the table and left in the room to sit in silence.

After what seemed like hours, but was most likely a couple of minutes, the detective entered the room along with All Might. Wow, this must be a big case or do they think that I'm such a big criminal to need the number 1 hero here.

"Alright "Izuku" Midoriya, let's start." He said putting air quotes on the name Izuku "Did you kill the police hero Cop-out?" He asked.
"No." I said looking at them.

..

"What?" He asked "No, I didn't kill him. I don't even know who he is... or was." I answered, "Then, why did you run away?" He asked.
"I was found at a crime scene, wearing a hoodie, mask, and was standing in the victim's blood. Oh, I don't know? Seemed like a good idea at the time." I said with anger.

"What were you doing out there?" He asked. Here we go "I was illegally using my quirk in a public place for training to attend the U.A. entrance exam." I answered.
Silence again overtook the room. The detective listed through some paper, until he found what he was looking for and showed it to All Might.

"Very well, young Midoriya, it says here that you are quirkless, yet from what we've all seen, you have a pretty impressive quirk. Care to explain?" All Might crossed his arms across his chest.

Oh, so they think I'm working for All for one. Great, just great! "Remember a few months back, the incident I was in with the yakuza?" I asked.
"Yes, what of it?" Asked the detective "After you and my family left, I started exhibiting strange abilities. Like climbing on walls, leaping 300 meters, surviving great falls and hits..." I said leaving it there for them to piece it all together.

"So what you're saying is, that you awakened your quirk because of... what, some kind of flight or fight response?" The detective asked.
I just shrugged my shoulders. Can't know I'm lying if I don't answer.

"Then why didn't you give up when All Might tried to apprehend you?" He asked, gesturing at the mentioned hero.
"You heroes kept attacking me. What else was I supposed to do?" I answered pissed off "All off you are the same, punch first, ask questions later. But that's what makes you such great heroes, right?" I asked.

It was their turn to be silent "What would you do if I decided to sue?" I asked, "What for?" Asked the detective "Let's see here, use of excessive force, if I hadn't defended myself I would have died. Also, the seal hero Silkie?" I lifted my shirt revealing the bruises they had left. Good thing I hadn't healed them yet.

They flinched at the accusation, but ultimately I was right.

"We will cover all the medical bills that the hos-" I broke the cuffs by shifting my arms into their dung beetle form.

A dung beetle can push an object 1000 times its size. So yeah, pretty strong.
The room was in silence and the atmosphere was tense "If you have no evidence of me doing anything wrong, and I mean real tangible evidence, I'll be leaving now." I walked toward the door.

"Unless there is anything? A video, a photo, a recording of me doing illegal activities?" I asked.
"Illegal use of a quirk in a public area." Said the detective.
"Let's call it even for the broken bones, shall we?" I opened the door and walked out. No one stopped me, no cop, or hero. And when I finally got out, I released a breath I didn't know I was holding.

I imbued my ears with the powers of a bat, to hear what they were talking about behind my back.

"Should we go get him, detective Naomasa?" Asked someone, a cop I presumed.
"No. Even if we could hold him for quirk misuse which we can't, he was telling the truth, plus he's a minor." He answered. As I walked away, I imbued my body with the power of an axolotl to heal up my wounds. They are 1000 times more resilient to cancer than a human, can survive for a limited time without a head, and can regrow organs.

So a few broken bones were nothing.

As I got closer to home, my pace kept getting slower and slower. It was a Sunday, so no school, but... I didn't want to go home.

I didn't know where to go, or who to call... well that was a lie, I just didn't want to go there. But after weighing my options I decided that going there was better than nothing.

I walked between streets, that I knew, better than most. When I was little I used to play on that playground. I used to buy candy at that store. A couple of streets later, I was standing in front of a house.

*Sigh*"Shit, here goes." I said as I walked toward the gate and rang the doorbell.
After a few seconds of silence, the door finally opened.
"Yes, hello..." The woman froze at the doorstep.
"Hey... aunt Mitsuki. Can I stay here for a while, I just... really don't want to go home."

Welp, chapter 4 is done. We will get some interesting interactions in chapter 5 with the Bakugo family. Also I know the document looks weird, the program I use casued the source code to be shown instead of the actual words.

See you next time!
