A/N: I didn't plan on updating until later in the week, but I think I was just as excited to see what would happen in the airport as you were. Thank you all for the great reviews. I am so happy you are enjoying this story of our girls reuniting. Everything is all Shonda's, I'm just playing in Shondaland for a while.
Arizona looked out the window just as the bright lights of the New York City skyline came into view. Seeing they were making their descent, she glanced over to make sure her daughter had her seat belt on. Looking at the sleeping little girl who was a near mini-replica of her mother, her heart swelled with love. For the first time in months, she looked at peace. She had been through so much in her young life. Fortunately, she wasn't old enough to remember the roughest parts like nearly dying and losing her mama at birth, her father dying, her mommy turning into a monster after the loss of her leg, the separation then the divorce a year later. But she still suffered from a broken family no matter how they tried to shield her from it. She knew this was the right decision for her daughter and she hoped it would be for her as well. While her biggest fear should be starting over in a new city or getting her center off the ground and bringing in enough patients to sustain it, those were nothing in comparison to her fear of being near her ex-wife again.
Callie has been so welcoming and helpful but she feared after they landed and spent some time together everything would come back to both of them. She had thoroughly cherished the new relationship that appeared to be blooming between the two of them. She just hoped it wasn't an illusion. Would Callie take one look at her and see the monster she had become after the crash. Would she be hit with the pain of her infidelity all over again? Would she resent her for fighting for her daughter and not just stepping aside and letting them go to New York? Would she feel suffocated by her presence again? Would all the hurt and anger just weigh them both down causing them to repeat the same vicious cycle all over again? That thought had her stomach churning and bile rising in her throat. Just as she started to stand to go to the restroom, she felt the jolt of the plane touching down. She took a deep breath, sat back and closed her eyes. Whatever was going to happen, she was about to find out.
Waiting until the plane had come to a complete stop and she saw the crew moving around once again, Arizona stood and stretched out her body. She knew her leg would be swollen and sore by the time she took off her prosthetic, but fortunately, the sedative Callie had sent for her did its job and the anxiety was minimal this time around meaning no additional swelling or phantom pain. Unbuckling her seat belt, Arizona walked over to wake her sleeping beauty. Fortunately, while she had inherited her mama's ability to sleep through anything, she had taken on her own habit of waking in a good mood. "Sofia. Hey big girl. We are here." The blonde had to step back quickly to avoid knocking heads with her daughter as she shot up out of her seat. "We're here? In New York? Mama's out there?" Nodding her head, Arizona smiled at the little girl's excitement. "She is. Mama is just on the other side of that tunnel waiting for us." God she hoped this went well. "What are we waiting for? Come on mommy! Let's go!" she nearly shouted as she darted to the door and bounced on her toes waiting for the flight attendant to open it. As she was being pulled out the door, Arizona barely heard, "Your bags will be waiting for you at baggage claim Dr. Robbins."

Standing in the Executive Lounge in JFK's private jet terminal, Callie stood staring out the floor to ceiling windows anxiously awaiting the arrival of her family. It didn't help that it was just past midnight and any hope of seeing the sleek black jet with the gold 'T' emblazoned on the tail disappeared with the setting sun. So she had to settle for the disappointment of watching each set of aircraft lights turn in a different direction as plane after plane taxied to other arrival gates. She was certain she had already paced the equivalent of 5 miles throughout the small terminal. She could really use a strong shot of Tequila right about now but knew it wouldn't be a good idea to greet her family with alcohol on her breath as well as the fact that she was driving. But her nerves and thoughts were all over the place. First and foremost was the ever-present memory of what happened the last time two of the most important people in her life were on a plane together. While they both came back alive, one died in the hospital and the other, her loving and devoted wife, the sweet, funny, confident, hardcore, perky, spit-fire with the super-magic smile who left a trail of sunshine and rainbows wherever she went, died slowly right before her eyes and was replaced with someone unrecognizable for so long. Her adorable dimples rarely came out to play, the radiating smile that lit up a room became tight and strained. Her sparkling ocean blue eyes that shone like the sun became empty and lifeless save the daggers of resentment that shot out at anyone in her path.
Therein lie the source of the majority of her nerves. She had no idea who would be stepping off that plane, who would be living in the same city, sharing her home. Would she be welcoming the playful flirty confident woman she had enjoyed getting to know over the past month, the amazing woman who sacrificed her own happiness not once but twice to bring their daughter to her to live in New York, the selfless woman who allowed her to walk away to find her own happiness no matter what she wanted, the strong, brilliant doctor who fought her way through a grueling fellowship to become one of the most sought after double board certified surgeons in the country? Would Arizona be excited to take the next step in her career? Would she be willing to build on what they had started? Had her ex-wife found the same healing, growth, and forgiveness she herself had found? Or would she be greeting the angry, bitter, woman who blamed her for the loss of her leg, the broken and defeated woman she left crying on the couch in the therapist's office, the protective mama bear full of contempt and ire for wanting to move her daughter across the country? She was anxious to see if all the resentment was still lingering between them. It didn't feel like it over the phone, but would it come back when they saw each other? Would her ex-wife see her and become angry at her for moving here in the first place? Would she see the other woman and feel suffocated by the pain and anger that caused her to walk away in the first place? Would they just spend the rest of their lives on this never ending roller coaster of bitter-sweet emotions? That thought made her stomach actually flip. She was going to puke. She started for the bathroom when she heard the unmistakable roar of an engine and saw the flashing red and white lights appear directly in front of her.
Taking a deep breath and checking her reflection in the reflective glass of the windows, Callie smoothed the imaginary wrinkles and ran her fingers along the freshly shaved stubble on the sides of her head. She then turned toward the door leading from the plane and excitedly awaited the arrival of her family and whatever it may look like. Before she could feel the nerves again, the door burst open and she had an armful of mini-me. "MAMMAAAAAA!" Sophia yelled as Callie swore she made the distance from the door to where she was standing in a single leap. She scooped her little girl up and closed her arms tightly around her, spinning her around in a circle. Closing her eyes, she took a few minutes to savor the feeling of once again holding this little girl who was her whole world. "Oh, baby girl, mama missed you so much! I am so happy you are home! Let me look at you. You grew a foot, I swear." She said as she put the little girl back on her feet and caressed her hair. "I am home for good mama, and guess what? Mommy is home too! Mommy is moving to New York! She wants to live here too." Sophia said with enthusiasm. "I know baby girl." Callie said looking into her daughter's eyes and seeing the excitement of having both of her parents in the same place again. She briefly wondered how she ever thought taking her away from her other mother was a good idea.
It was then that she turned around and felt a jolt of electricity course through her entire body. Standing not six feet away was her gorgeous ex-wife. Her blonde hair fell in waves just a little longer than she had ever seen it before. Arizona was wearing…God! Was Arizona ever wearing a blue plaid button down with the top few buttons undone enough to show off her amazing cleavage and the most form fitting blue jeans that showcased that fantastic ass perfectly and a pair of knee high boots. She couldn't take her eyes off Arizona as she felt a smile spread across her face. She was smiling at the sight of the woman she had come to realize would never leave her heart, because she was standing right in front of her, because she brought her daughter home. Most importantly, she was smiling because looking into those tear-filled twinkling eyes, she doesn't see or feel a single trace of the pain, hurt, or anger she once felt in her presence. She was smiling because she felt the blush creep up her face, the butterflies take flight in her abdomen, the electricity course through her veins. She was smiling because the flood of emotions she felt in that instant was nothing like what she feared just a few moments ago.
Arizona stood frozen as she took in the sight that was Calliope Torres. It wasn't at all what she expected. Callie was wearing loose fitting black jeans that showcased her tight ass perfectly, black Doc Martin biker boots with silver buckles, a crisp white shirt resembling a tuxedo shirt untucked and unbuttoned just enough to show her ample cleavage, and a bright red necktie hanging loosely around her neck. The long silky black curls she had pictured so many times recently were gone, cut short and shaved in the back and sides leaving only a long swirl of hair on top. She found that her fingers were tingling to just run along the stubble. While the brunette was beautiful with all that long hair, like this, she was just, well, mouth wateringly sexy, hot…dirty hot. They stood staring at one another. She didn't know what to do so she stood waiting…waiting for the anger to grab ahold of her, waiting for the resentment she held onto for so long to rise up within her, waiting for the hurt to crush her heart, but it didn't come. Nothing she expected of this moment came. Not until she saw that brilliant mega-watt smile break across that stunning caramel colored face. Then she felt it. The itching in her hands to reach out and touch the other woman, the bubbling of excitement from being near her rising to her chest, the super-magic, for Calliope only, complete with dimples smile spreading across her face and reaching her eyes. She then tilted her head as her mind was flooded with emotions she never expected. Dark chocolate locked with cerulean blue as memories from the past ten years flowed between them.

You shouldn't have to give up anything.
Before she knew what she was doing, Callie walked up to Arizona, and brought one hand up to rest on her cheek as she brushed her dimple with her thumb, at the same time a soft pale hand rested on her own cheek and the warmth of just that touch spurred her on as she murmured, "Damn super magic smile" then she leaned in and captured Arizona's lips with hers. The moment Arizona felt Callie's lips on hers, she gave in to the tingling in her fingers and moved her hand up to feel the back of her ex-wife's head, to press her closer, her other hand gripping that strong bicep just as Callie's hand slid from her cheek to tangle in her blonde curls and her free hand wrapped around her waist pulling her closer. Both women were in heaven even though it was a brief touching of lips. It was soft. It was sweet. It was chaste. It was tender. It was home. God! It was everything.
Arizona felt, before she heard the soft moan Callie let loose. She loved that sound. She loved knowing she could elicit that feeling from her even after so long. Soon she felt the soft inside of her lips being swiped by that oh so talented tongue. Without hesitation Arizona opened her mouth and gently bit down on the intruder before sucking it in to duel with her own. She tilted her head for a better angle and allowed her body to relax into Callie's. Both women shifted closer, holding tighter as their tongues tangled in the all too familiar dance while reacquainting themselves with the other woman. The familiar jolt of electricity was thrumming through their veins. The thrill they only ever felt from the other woman sped up their pulse. Their breath became ragged and finally they heard a small voice break through. "YES!" Surprised and a little embarrassed they had lost themselves in front of their daughter, the women reluctantly pulled apart and smiled at one another before looking over at their daughter who was doing her own little happy dance in the middle of the airport terminal. Unable to help themselves, they both broke into a fit of giggles.
Hearing her mothers' laughter, Sofia froze mid-dance and turned to look at them. She then beamed at her mommies who stood next to each other, shoulders touching, hands brushing against each other, smiling bigger than she had ever seen either of them smile before…that she could remember anyway. She had seen pictures though and these smiles looked like the smiles they wore when she was little. Maybe, just maybe, they could all be happy this time. Not wanting to push her stubborn moms or make a bigger deal out of it she asked, "Can we go home now? I'm hungry and tired." She then walked over to Arizona and rested against her body loving the feeling of her mommy running her fingers through her hair. Callie turned and carefully placed her hand on her daughter's face, then on Arizona's in the same loving manner. "Of course, baby girl, let's go get your bags." She melted just a bit when the blonde turned her face toward her rather than pulling away. It felt so natural she didn't even think about it. This right here, this is what she missed, this is what she wanted, what she needed. She knew then and there she would do everything in her power to hold on to this.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a deep gasp coming from her little girl, "MAMA! YOUR HAIR!" Immediately little hands were tangled in her shirt pulling her down then tangling in what little hair she had left not so gently moving her head from left to right taking in the new style. Wincing, she reached up and untangled her daughter's fingers and combed her own through her hair trying to bring it back to order. Biting her lip nervously, dark chocolate eyes darted from the blonde to the little brunette in her arms. Rubbing at the stubble on the sides and back she asked quietly, "Do you like it?" She could feel her shoulders tense up and her nerves jangle as she awaited the reaction of both her girls. "Yeah, I think it looks cool!" Her mini-me proclaimed as she wiggled out of her mommy's hold and hugged her mama around the waist. Feeling slightly better, nervous dark eyes met blue and she was certain they turned a shade darker. She closed her eyes and was surprised when her own hand was replaced with a soft pale hand rubbing at the stubble along the side of her head. Then she shuddered when her ex-wife leaned in and whispered, "Hmmm I was thinking HOT, but for the sake of keeping things PG, we will go with cool." Her eyes snapped open as she watched the other woman smirk and throw a wink over her shoulder as she rushed to catch up with their retreating daughter.
Sofia apparently got her second wind as she bounced through the airport and circled around her moms as they walked toward baggage claim. "You're still staying with us right mommy?" She asked as she twirled around in circles. Arizona smiled at her child's attempts to keep herself awake. "Yes, baby girl, I am going to stay with you and mama at least for a few days. Is that okay?" Arizona asked already knowing the answer. Sofia nodded and replied, "This is so awesome!" and punched her fist in the air. Trying to shake off the disappointment at her ex-wife's reply, Callie shook her head and laughed at her daughter's antics. She leaned in close to the blonde and whispered in her ear, "What have you done to our daughter?" Arizona did her best to hide her body's reaction. She just shrugged and flipped her hair, "What can I say? We are awesome. Keep up Torres." Tossing a wink over her shoulder, she grabbed her daughter's hand and led her toward baggage claim. Tremendously happy with the turn of events thus far, Callie watched and held in a groan as the blonde who knew how to drive her crazy like no one else could walked away and if she didn't know any better, was putting just a little extra sway in her hips.
As the reunited family walked through the airport, both women basked in the idea that just maybe things could go their way. They knew it wouldn't be an easy road, but as their daughter stepped between them taking their hands in hers, they knew it would be worth the climb.
