...
Well... Here I am again.
...
Sorry for keeping you waiting for so long, as I said in the update, things are turning for the worse for me...
But you are not here for that, are you? Nah, you just want to see some mech blast a dragon's ass into oblivion.
...
Let the fight continue then...
Since after this, there might be alot of talking and diplomacy between all factions involved in here. And everyone who played SupCom 1 campaign knows how the U.E.F usually responds to first contact and diplomacy with other species and civilizations.
But not everyone is a xenophobic genocidal bastard.
Then again, you can't really make threats to what its esentially a galaxy-busting walking war machine and it's enhanced and expirenced pilot. Like some unfortunate souls might found out latter down the line.
...
I doubt a apostles or even a God from Falmart can take on a A.C.U's army, let alone take a nuke to their face and continue normally to see the next day undisturbed lr shaken.
And then... The experimentals...
But someone has to try to find out by the hard way.
Right?

The Fire of a Commander and a Dragon
Unknown World, Year 3846.10 U.E.F Earth Calendar, 7.5 minutes before confrontation against native Mega Fauna named Red Dragon.
After walking hundreds of meters at a impressive speed for its size, the Commander finally reached the forest. The size and noice of his A.C.U was making could be hear from very far and every single animal in this part of the forest went into hiding or flees for their life. It's towering height made the tress look like weeds in a garden and with each mechanic footstep, birds flew in the dozens, deers began to run away, bunnies hidden in their nests and pretty much any living being capable of hiding or flying away could sense something that smelled like destruction is coming fast to their way.
Its almost like they knew that what would come will shake their world to it's very core.
In a way, they are right.
He didn't pay too much attention to their reaction, it was a pretty common response everytime he or others Commanders did a Gate-Jump or when his units passed nearby native wildlife. Every single planet with animal life acted the exact same way, but could anyone blame them for it though?
No, what he is paying his total attention to were the unknown neutral aircraft units around him. Miller could feel the unknown units watching every single step he takes, orbiting around him like satellites to a very damaged planet. He wondered why they are not making any kind of contact with him, but a sudden explosion of sparks in front of him once again reminded what kind of situation he was on.
Without his Communications and Radar Systems he was practically blind of his surroundings, and forced to rely only in Visuals and Audio to guide him in this planet. Everything his A.C.U sees and hears is documented and used to make a map of the planet's surface, the database also failed to identify in what planet he landed on, making him, probably, the first Coalition human to ever see this land.
Something in that worried and relieved Miller at the same time, because on one side he was probably in a unexplored territory of the galaxy, completely isolating him from The Coalition and any Human colony still standing. But in the other, it means that maybe, just maybe, he is also a unknown to The Seraphim and The Order. Giving him time to repair and stablish contact with The Coalition and inform them of his situation and return to the war.
On the way to the forest, he wondered in the possibilities of this planet. He thought that it could be made to a peaceful colony where people and war refuges could rest away from the war or a military base to supply this new front in the war.
He briefly wondered if his arrival might have spooked the natives and might try to attack him.
He let out a tired chuckle at the thought. He really had pity to whoever tried to challenge a Commander without something as powerful as a nuclear bomb, a huge mechanical army or another A.C.U.
Even in his weakened state he can kick major ass to whatever land units they sent after him and when he had secured a base with Mass Extractors, Energy Generators and unit factories he could conquer this planet in a week or two. Maybe more if the planet had bigger diameter than Earth.
He really hoped that wouldn't be the case though. And the fact that the native air units hadn't attacked him yet filled him with a bit of relief.
Every A.C.U Pilot Commander is trained to endure the harshest of situations and keep an calm and strategic mind in combat, even when forced to manually piloting the A.C.U in combat while also commanding their units at the same time.
Not many could pass the training, those who passed are normally divided between two groups: The sociopathic megalomaniacs who can order the destruction of a entire solar system's population in a blink of a eye while believing that they are doing God's work, and those that try their very best to protect all civilians in battle even against overwhelming and crushing odds.
Miller is with the latter group. He liked to thing he was in that group.
Pulling himself away from his thoughts, he moved his arms to start the Mass Reclamation process on the of closest bunch of trees. He supressed groans of pain in his throat now that he was in a less troubling situation than before, his body still hurted but he can tolerate it for now.
The damned thing should already gave him some pain-killers by now, but the A.C.U semmed more damaged than he thought. Thank god for the self-reparing features of his mech, without those he wouldn't even be alive right now.
With each tree and big rock his A.C.U was absorbing, his mass reserves increased. But, as he expected, the mass reclaimed was still not enough for a land factory. Sighing in frustration, he continued with the Reclamation.
He wondered what happend to his A.C.U.'s inner system to gain such low quantities of mass, but he concluded that it was the Gate Jump malfunction. After all, even before Miller was given the order to retreat by his commanding U.E.F A.C.U. officer Mikan Morris, there was weird gut feeling inside of him before jumping.
But the only options he had were either stand by his side and die with him or run away to protect the remaining human worlds still standing. He would have gladly given his life in that place and even argued with Mikan about it.
But he clearly spoke his reasons.
"You know we lost here, but I'll be damned if I let more of my soldiers die against those bastards." He said grimly in a tired and angry tone.
"But sir, there has to something else we can do!" He cried out to him as he shoot a Overload to a group of T1 Seraphim Land Units. His shoot struck in the center of their formation, obliterating almost every single one them. The ones that survived tried to run away but another Overload ended their struggle in a blue flash.
"Yes we can, but not here. Fallback and warn The Coalition, I will try to win you some time before The Seraphim drag everything and everyone to hell..."
"Sir..."
"That's an order." He said it with recognition tight in his tone and Miller felt like he just got another heavy blow to his body, both emotionally and literally as he shuddered another bombing run from Aeon T2 Bombers but were quickly shot down by the A.A. Turrets.
Miller never liked moments like these ones, he learned that they were inevitable, unexpected and tragically numerous in war in his first real battle in the Infinity War against a sneaky and cunning Cybran Commander.
The sounds of Seraphim Bombers brought him back to reality as he began to walk to the Quantum Gate.
"Good Luck Sir."
"You too soldier. See you in the other side..." Those would be the last words he heard from him after he crossed the Gate.
Miller shaked his head trying to shake away the painful fresh and old memories. He hated when he lost himself in his past like that, even when it felt like was just yesterday. He had know Morris before that battle for like months and had a great respect for him.
Mainly because he was one of the few who survived Earth's destruction by the hands of the Seraphim.
Another shake of head later, he looked to his resources. The energy was reaching 1259 and rapidly growing to acceptable levels while mass barely reaching 250. He really need to check what was wrong with his Engineering Suite, since he was very sure he absorbed a good chunk of the forest already.
He then began his calculations and planning for a possible base location. So far his A.C.U. has not detected any kind of Mass Deposits and the forest seemed to go on for many kilometers.
He would continue his current travel into the forest till he found a Mass Deposits or something that could supplement his needs. Since he was in a unknown planet, his first course of action should be build a Air Factory, then order it to build a T1 Engineer, two T1 Hummingbird Recon Planes, two T1 Cyclone Interceptors and one T1 Scorcher Attack Bomber for now.
Then he will order the Hummingbirds to fly south and north to explore and try to find the Air Units native base while the Cyclones patrols his current location and leaved the Scorcher in case if he need a quick bombing run against a hostile target.
After his reparations were completed he would contact them and try to explain his situation to them. He hoped that their language weren't so different than the rest of human in the galaxy, and if it is, then he would order his A.C.U. to translate it.
Then after that...
Miller was kicked out his planning when a angry red alert suddenly appeared in front of him.
"Alert, hostile air unknown has been detected." His computer declared.
'What?' He thought alarmed, he quickly turned his view to his observers. They were still 1 Km away and had not made any other than fly around him. It was probable they have alerted the local government or militar leader and ordered them to wait till reinforcement arrived to him out. Though that would be foolish move from their part and he wasn't looking forward to fight his way out this planet.
"Show me."
His A.C.U. turned around, focusing the skies and his view once again changed and now saw something that brought him to completely stop the world around him.
He saw what appeared to be an big winged red reptile, estimated to be around 30-35 meters long and 24-27 meters tall. It's wingspan was probably 50 meters long or more from one wing to the another, covered from it's head to tail with thick scarlet scales that could intimidate lesser mans to run away in fear. It has four legs, each one undoubtedly filled with powerful muscles and it's head had two long horns giving the appearance of an four-legged flying devil.
In his time as Commander, he had seen his own fair share of natural phenomenons between planets. In the ones that had alien animal life there were some where life grew to big proportions, normally found in low gravity planets, these creatures could reach up to 5-8 meters tall.
Something more than that could lead to many biological issues such as slow reaction time, bone-crushing weights and the most serious ones being the time that takes for breathing and causing the creature to die before it even reach it's lungs.
But not this thing, it looked strong, fast and it can fly.
And above all things.
It is a FREAKING DRAGON.
"The unknown Hostile Air-Born lifeform seems to be landing." True to her words, The Dragon began to dive at almost neck-breaking speeds to what at first glance looked like a clearing in the forest, standing out like a island in an ocean of green trees.
He guessed that Dragon was going to rest in the clearing, seemly not aware of the fifty meters tall war machine or maybe not caring in the slightest about him.
Then Miller heard a sound that kick him into even more shock and confusion, but also with righteous rage.
One he knew very well.
Screaming.
Human Screaming.
"Computer, enhance vision in that clearing." He ordered to her while he began to intercept his new objective.
His A.C.U. leaved huge foot-shaped craters on the ground as it began to move quickly to it's new destination. The leg's servos groaning in protest of the sudden abuse. When he returned to Coalition Space he will sure have a complain about the agility in A.C.U.s.
"Complying." A moment later he saw what appeared to be a small village, Miller also noted curiously that some of the buildings were built into the trees.
He also the unmistakable shape of people running away and trying to hide in hopes to avoid the Red Menace.
Miller grimly noted that he wouldn't arrive on time when The Dragon landed and began to wreck the village. He saw that some people actually brought bows and arrows against the red monster, whose reward for their efforts was either a crushing blow or burned alive.
The Dragon also can breath FIRE?!
They don't stand a chance.
"Fire that damned lizard!" Miller practically roared in rage. He saw and felt his A.C.U. rise it's arm taking aim to obliterate the Red Dragon.
The Zephyr Anti Matter Cannon is very imposing weapon, like it indicates in the name. Every U.E.F. Commander are taught about the machines they would be fighting with and Miller was totally sure that one shot from this thing would take that beast down.
Keyword being 'was'.
When his shot hit it's end, he was unpleasantly surprised that it didn't die immediately. But at least he knew it hurt like hell having your skin destroyed in the most literally sense possible, if the roars of pain were any indication to that.
He taken this moment to look at the village.
Everything was burning, houses, grass, trees and bodies equally burning in a maelstrom of pain. Miller felt his gut filled with more rage to the Red Dragon. His hands were tighten to fists in his chair in frustration. If he only had arrived earlier he could have saved these people.
They don't deserved this fate.
No one deserves this.
Movement to his left brought to the sight of two villagers, a man and a girl. Probably father and daughter, they looked miserable with their bodies covered in ash and dirt. They wore damaged simple clothes, the kind he saw in citizen with their families in poor planets, but something stans out to Miller's eyes.
They had pointed ears and very bright blue eyes. Apart of those oddity, they looked like humans. Miller's response in the moment to that would be genetic mutation, that these people were raised from these forest and adapted to live in it.
Any other observation were stopped he heard the Dragon roar to his way. Turning to face it, Miller saw the nasty injury from his shot in the left side of it's body. It's wings were spread out in a display to intimidate him, but he was again impressed and angry. Impressed because this Dragon seemed actually scared of him but still bravely held it's ground, and angry because of it's crime against these people.
The Red Dragons blasted a fireball to his way, acting quickly, Miller brought the A.C.U.'s arms to bear the incoming blast. He not taking chances with this thing, since no natural being could resist the fire of an Commander and survived to tell the story. For all he knew it might just threw him a fireball hot enough to be plasma.
But fortunately, that's not the case. While yes it was hot, it was nowhere plasma-hot. He also noted the black marks it leave behind in his A.C.U. arms.
He glanced at one side of his cabin to check his A.C.U. status. It still blinked in alert but more in a worried orange rather than an angry red from earlier. Still the Dragon just warmed his paint in that attack.
It would have to use it's body to make him really feel it.
And the Dragon had noticed this with an perplexed and surprised expression in it's eyes, but quickly recovered and began to spread it's impressive wings to take flight and attack from above. Miller tried to shoot the wings and disable it's biggest strength but it was surprisingly fast for its size as it dodged his shot. Hitting the ground it was on just a moment ago, now transformed into a crater.
He cursed his bad luck as he started to lookout for the dragon. The burning village created thick black smoke clouds around him, this would normally be a problem but his A.C.U. can see through the smoke and could see the dragon gaining altitude and flying around him.
The dragon is looking for any kind of weakness in his foe and thinking that maybe it was blinded by the smoke and began to think in his situation.
He is surprised by this construct, in all his centuries alive he hasn't seen something like this. Sure, sometimes the lesser races could try and build a golem by magic, in his youth he had seen a now extinct race that used golems for battles. But never something like this huge being.
But with sizes also came weakness, mainly one slow reaction times and slow movements normally compensated by a strong armor. But this was not like other golems, it was faster than expected, but he had doubts it could stand against his claws.
Unaware that the smoke is a double edged sword in this situation, the dragon began his assault against the blue golem.
But he was forced to break his attack and dodge the blue lights coming from the black cloud. He shivered at the painful experience fresh in his mind of the power in its magic. It was like another dragon burned him with the hottest fire in existence.
He dodge with a sharp turn to his left as another blue light had almost bitted him flew by into the sky, then he responded with another blast from his own. He wasn't sure if it had any difference from last time but he need to retaliate, he can't be on the defensive forever.
Meanwhile Miller raised his A.C.U. Cannons and began to fire another shot to the flying dragon. Normally, this would be frowned upon by another Commander since the action of shooting Air Borne hostile with a A.C.U. will normally end with the A.C.U. never hitting anything since all Air Units after the start of the Infinity War were practically untouchable except by specifically dedicated Anti-Air Units weapons and occasional lucky shot.
But this dragon was not as fast like a plane nor was as agile like a gunship. It also helped that it flew close to the ground and never going above 2km or above, and if Miller could get his shoot right, it's size might be it's downfall, quite literally.
He prepared for oncoming fireballs, but they don't have the power to breach his armor and all the damage they actually do was quickly repaired by his automatic regeneration. The fire at his feet didn't affect him in the slightest and held his ground in the smoke cloud, just feeling a bit more warn.
If the dragon came to attack him with it's claws the smoke would blind it and miss it's strike, or at least he hoped so.
Then he saw the dragon change tactics and began to fly high into the sky, his Cannons shooting all the while, all of them missing the mark. The dragon breathed out more fireballs in response, hitting and destroying whatever surviving remains of the village and had little effect to the War Machine.
Quickly realizing what it was doing, he began to walk backwards while never taking his eyes of the dragon. Finally breaking free from the black cloud that was before a village and stoping around two or three hundreds meters away from it, he prepared again to shoot the flying lizard in a attempt to bring it down.
Once he saw the dragon begin to rapidly dive down, he prepared his aim. One good shot and he could take out this menace from the planet forever, and later he could study it and find out how it's body worked.
"Come on..." Miller whispered to himself in anticipation of the moment.
"Just get closer..." His Cannons roared with life along with him, almost like they were feeling his emotions and eager to bring a bloody end to his foe.
When it was almost on top of him, he fired his two Cannons at the same time.
"Gotcha." He said with an wide smirk in his face and watched with satisfaction when his shots struck in it's belly and chest, quickly followed by roars of agony from the dragon as it falled and crashed hard against the ground behind him. A huge cloud of dirt suddenly appeared in the crash and many trees were leveled on the way.
He turned around and walked forward to confirm if the dragon was dead. The crater it left behind extended for around dozens of meters, trees and grass were blown away in the crash.
Then he saw the dragon lumped in the ground, who looked like a mess with many of it's scales cracked, it's skin was breached and blood flowed like rivers of blood around it's body. Surprisingly enough it's wings were only a bit bruised, while the lower limbs weren't so lucky, if it's rear left leg odd angle was any indication of that.
But above all, what surprised Miller the most was the fact that it was still alive.
"Oh, come on!" He exclaimed in frustration to this another unpleasant surprise.
Like if it had heard him, the dragon turned it's head to his direction. It's head also was not spared like wings and he could see a blood flowing at it's mouth and nose. One of it's horns was cracked and the other looked like it was going to fall off but hung on just by what appeared to be strength of will.
And then he saw it's eyes, two amber orbs filled with many emotions, which he could see clearly from his A.C.U.
Pain, anger and confusion dominated in there, and there was another one which, while it was expected, he didn't like it took this long to appear in that dragon mind.
Fear.
The dragon had fear of him.
'Well, it took it long enough for it to realize this was a hopeless fight.' Miller thought with a frown.
"Well, you were quite a oddity for sure, I mean, Dragons? Heh, it seems the universe still has surprises for people like me." Miller began to talk as he approached the injured being while the dragon slowly got to it's feet, shaking in pain as it stood in each feet except the rear left leg hanging limping.
If the thing hadn't destroyed a innocent village he would have gotten just a bit of pitty for it.
But it did.
And it was going to pay with it's blood.
"But sometimes those surprises don't come around and slaughter innocent people like you did." Miller said with anger starting to return to his tone, he saw the dragon once again roaring in both defiance and pain against him. He saw where his shots have landed and he can guarantee that it will never sleep again comfortably ever again.
It once again breathed out fire against him, hoping that it would have a different effect than before. But once again he was undisturbed by the fire, then it leaped with his front legs and wings and tried to attack him with it's claws and teeth.
He dodged it by just stepping out it's way, and watched as the Red Dragon bitted the air and crashed again into the ground.
Miller let out an disappointed sigh, as he watched the dragon once again get to it's feet and looked at him with a glare. It seems like it was still determinated to fight, while respectable in a way, it was now only hurt itself more by continuing this fight.
"You don't know when to quit, do you..?" He asked to the dragon, it's answer was roaring once again against him.
"I guess that's a 'no'." He sighed at the creature in front of him as it once again prepared for another leap. But quick shot from his Cannon to the ground in front of it put a stop to all it's next movements and braced against another burning sensation.
But it never came, as it only struck the ground and exploded leaving behind a crater the size of a house. It growled against the mechanical war beast, with a feeling hopeless growing in it's eyes as it finally realized that it cannot win this.
It once again roared and breathed out more fire from it's mouth and once again he braced the flames but was surprised when the beast started to turn around and run away from him in a panicked rush
"Well, so much from that no from earlier, heh..." Miller watched as the dragon spread its wings again and tried to take flight, he was going to shoot it down again but stopped when he heard the unmistakable sounds of engines nearby his location.
He turned around on his spot trying to find out where the sound came from and noticed that his observers air units were nowhere in sight and the only thing moving right now was the fleeing dragon and the trees.
"Computer, identify the engine noise location." He ordered to her, seemingly forgetting about the dragon, for now.
By now it was practically running away with it's tail between it's legs as it flew away from him, Miller hated to leave the damn thing alive but at least he guaranteed that the next time it attacked another village it will remember about him and the pain he caused it for doing it.
"Sound location identified, it's coming from unknown land units coming to the destroyed natives settlement."
Her voice suddenly felt like a bucket full of ice as the implications behind her words settled in his mind.
Which he could only say one thing in response
"Ah, damn..."
Falmart, Year 2015 Earth Calendar, Eleven Village, 10 minutes since first contact confrontation between The Anomaly and The Red Dragon.
"This is a bad idea Itami."
"I know, but we need to see if there are any survivors in here."
"You do realize that a something just leveled this entire part of the forest?!"
"Yes, but in a world like the Special Region someone could have survived even that."
First Class Sergeant Shino Kuribayashi could only shake her head at her's CO words. She knew that he had a heart of gold, the attitude of a slacker, and the personality of an Otaku, but sometimes she wondered if he also had a suicide wish.
Her unit had been dispatched hours ago, tasked with gathering intelligence and meeting the locals natives for a peaceful first contact and find any kind of information about the Empire.
The Empire... To her, have her homeland being attacked by what was essentially the fantasy equivalent of the Roman Empire was naturally quite a big surprise. She was at her home training in her reflexes when the news struck and her first thought was that she somehow was took a nap and her exhausted mind dreamed everything up.
But her CO at the time took the situation seriously and when they had set a perimeter around the invaders, she was already refitted in her uniform with her trusty Type 64 Battle Rifle, Minebea P-9, Body Armor Type 2 and some grenades.
After that it was almost like a blur as the days passed as she waited anxiously for Command to send the order to enter the new world and give this 'oh so great Empire' a piece of her mind while she punched to death the fools who agreed to attack her nation.
She threw a glance back to her companions and she quickly saw that she wasn't the only one who thought this was a horrible idea
Sergeant Major Sōichirō Kuwahara, playfully nicknamed as 'The Dad's by some soldiers in the base, was looking around wearily as he aimed his rifle cheeking for any oddities. She guessed that maybe for all that experience he had, he hardly thought he would find himself in a situation like this.
Not that she saw this coming in the first place, but so far her time in this world taught her that she had to prepare for any kind of surprises.
But none could have prepared them for what they could probably see before going into this forest.
Behind him she saw Sergeant First Class Mari Kurokawa, 'The Medic' as some of her companions liked to call her. She had a calm and collected nature as she handle her rifle.
But Shino could see through the facade, Mari was worried for them and scared at the possibility of one them being injured or killed by whatever wrecked this part of the forest as it seemed to go on for miles and miles in this direction.
ln another thought, Kuribayashi didn't understand why when some of her companions called Mari 'The Medic' they always had a big dumb grin on their faces, as if they somehow found that to be amusing or even funny. When she called it out to them, one said that was just something from a popular western videogame called 'Team Fortress 2'.
Soon enough, she just guessed that is just a very dumb geek inside joke.
Half of the unit came to explore this part of the forest, even when it was that is a bad idea. But Itami still pushed on about the prospect that maybe they could find something interesting, the other half stayed behind to guard their ride out in case things get ugly.
So that leaved seven soldiers travelling through the forest, one of them being her, while another five and their drivers stayed behind with the vehicles.
She really didn't like those odds. They would more guns if what ever made this gets in their way.
A sudden snap in the air made her jump from her thoughts and turned around to face whoever disturbed her, rifle at her hands. But quickly lowered when she saw who was dumb enough to fall in that stick.
Sergeant First Class Akira Tomita quickly raised his hands in surreder when he saw an annoyed Kuribayashi aiming her rifle at him. She let out a annoyed sigh and resumed with her walk with her squad, mumbling something in her breath about working with idiots.
Their first order in their at first glance seemingly random destination was an indication from Alnus Hill Command that there were few villages close to the base at around one or two hours of travel. The closest one was on the east of Alnus Hills and if their drone recon was accurate, which it was, they would find in a forest.
Though they never said how massive that forest was.
For the longest time they just travelled through seemingly nevermind grasslands, never once they found a river on their way and they found sometimes big car-sized rocks lying around in the grass. Normally it would not be weird or out of place close to a mountain or another terrain like that, but to find it in these fields without a single mountain even close to them, it would rise some questions.
But they just disregarded it as another oddity of this world.
But what couldn't be a local oddity was the sound of jet planes engines passing by. They heard two, quickly followed by the cause of it flying above them and in into the direction they were goinc before.
That rised questions, and a normal guess will not satisfy them this time. But when Itami asked about to Alnus Hill Command, they responded with "We are doing test run to see if everything, is in place after crossing the Gate."
Itami considered the logic in that, and considered good enough for him. The rest quickly agreeing with the recent development.
Everyone except Kuribayashi.
She felt her gut yelling at her that something was wrong, but she didn't say anything because she would look like a paranoid, and she didn't like that, but her gut had never failed her before. So she was left worried for her unit and the jet pilots.
Then they found what was like something big, like, maybe even huge, just leaved a path of footsteps in its wake that go to their forest village location.
Itami immediately informed Command about this, who were silent for a while. When they answered they said.
"Change of plans 3rd Recon, avoid going those in footsteps way and go to another village close to your location. It's on the south on your current position around two hours of travel."
"I repeat, do not follow those footsteps. Continue with the mission and report if something more appears."
And with that Command left. Leaving an entire unit very confused and disturbed by the implications of what just had been said, specially Kuribayashi.
Of course, Itami asked what was going on, but he only got was a reminder to return to their mission and ignore the elephant in the room. Quite literally if what made those was a huge elephant.
But they weren't in the shape of any animal they could recognize, not even the fantasy creatures, except maybe a dragon, as one of their drivers said, could leave footsteps the size of houses. And most disturbing of it all was the fact that they kinda looked close to a humanoid, which only leaved the possibility of an giant.
Her CO had an expression filled with unease and worry about this unknown and their situation, looking out for all the options he could see and having trouble reaching to decision in his head.
She thought for a moment that the grim look in his eyes made him look older than normal. And in the next it was gone replaced by a determined fire in his eyes.
And his next order made her almost want that stupid face off his head for his next words.
"We are following those footsprints."
Not a second later was he bombarded with questions about his sanity, his competence and above all, his decision.
But he gave them his reason for this.
"Don't forget, theres a village filled with locals in this way. If we reach the village and is already destroyed by that thing, we could save some survivors and gain their favor."
There was logic into that, but still sounded like he had suicidal thoughts and wanted to taken them all with him. And she wasn't alone in this line of thinking as almost everyone looking at him like just grew a second head.
But they still obeyed his orded, much to Kuribayashi's displeasure.
And then they had arrived to the forest.
Sure enough, it doesn't look very promising so far.
"Say, if we find what made this mess, do you think that we could take it out?"
She heard Private Daisuke Tozu behind her asking to her's unit heavy weapons specialist Private Wataru Katsumoto. He had brought along the Nissan/IHI 110mm LAM Rocket Launcher, which he carried on his back. At least she could think that whatever could attack them it will eat a rocket to its ugly face.
"So far, I am not really sure even with our ride we could take it out." Wataru grimly noted to his companion, who looked at him with concern clear on his face.
But then Wataru suddenly grinned at him and patted the rocket launcher on his back.
"But you can guarantee that it will remember when good old 'Billy' slams on its face." They let out chuckle at that.
Even Kuribayashi let out a grin of her own at the exchange. She really wanted to believe that, but the trees around them made her have some doubts.
She turned around to face Itami, who was currently at the very front of their seven-men formation. Whose was holding his fist up in the air, signaling them to stop. They quickly did and she began walking to his position.
"What is it?" She asked whispering to him as they began to walk a into a clearing filled with burned remains of trees, their ashes and burned wood cracking at her feet all the while.
"I think we found the village." He whispered back and pointed ahead with a finger.
She followed where was finger pointing and felt like she let out a sigh unknowingly.
It was a village alright, or whatever remained of it. Houses were leveled, the ground shifted irregularly around the edge and center of the village as if something massive had brawled in here. Every where she looked, she saw burned structures collapsed into itself and even some were still burning, but was starting to die out soon enough.
Then there were the bodies... Or what remained of them.
And the smell...
She almost fell into the ground, only her training and discipline holding her back.
She felt sick, and she knew she felt her lunch trying to escape her body. She was by no means squamish or scare at the prospect of death, hell, she even killed some Imperials when they tried to take Alnus Hill.
But this was different.
This was wrong.
Then she felt a hand on her shoulder and she saw Itami looking at her with a sympathetic look in his face. She could tell that he was also shaken by the scene, but he is doing his best effort to stay calm and calm down his soldiers. Which it is actually impressive that it worked, she felt her mood and spirit lifting a bit.
She nodded to him that she was going to be okay and turned to face again the ruins.
"Alright everyone, remember why we are here. Search for any sings of survivors around the village, Kuwara and Mira search the left side, Tozu and Wataro search the right side and Akira, Me and Kuribayashi will search the central area."
He ordered with an air of authority to reminded her why he was her CO. Then she looked to the area they'll be searching at, she saw that the only thing standing appeared to be a waterwell in the very center of the village's remains, seemingly untouched by what happened here.
If someone really survived this, they would be one of the toughest or luckiest in this side of the planet.
Falmart, Year 687 Empire Calendar, Telta.
Telta...
Telta is the most northern town and second biggest city of the Empire.
Also know as the real and corrupted heart of the Empire, where almost all their war slave where then sold off to the highest prices possible. The town is the kind of place where the worst scum imaginable in this side of the world came did their disgusting business
Everywhere corner you go there was some disgusting person trying to sell their 'merch' and someone else would buy it, regardless of their state, gender, species... And age... they are sold off.
The average citizen could have a nice life in here if they were lucky or from some 'nobles' family. If they were alert all the time to watch of any possible robbers and didn't piss off the big egos of the nobles they would be alright.
But there starting to appear rumors from travellers and merchants about sudden arrival of the people from the gate, that could push back the imperial might and win, twice in a row. There were some soldiers who were on those dreaded days and were plagued with nightmares of their magical power, the noise of their mighty thunderstorm crashing against their army.
But everyone could never expect what happened in this day.
At the west of the city, there was a forest where the city could get the necessary wood and food to keep the city from suffering starving and cold nights. But for a moment anyone looking at that direction could had seen red lighting suddenly appearing out of nowhere above the forest. The guards were shocked beyond belief and quickly alerted the city's guard to defend their land from whatever was threatening it.
The city was confused by the light, they never had seen something like it before so they don't have any real response to it apart of standing around like sitting ducks.
And as if had the gods willed it, the red light Exploded. The light suddenly flared to life and brought a blinding light as if the sun just had birthed a baby, bringing everyone directly looking at it a painful blindness, then a titanic thunder was heard for around many leagues. Assaulting the unprepared ears of everyone, bursting out the eardrums of the weakest citizen and warrior alike. Quickly followed by a pushing wind that sent some guards on the walls of the city to the ground, some falling in the stone on the wall itself or to a nasty six feet fall.
The ones that had been spared from the blinding light and force were left disoriented by that thunder. Their ears ringing from the unexpected assault tried to stand back to their feet, but shaked all the way in shock.
The citizen, slaves, nobles and warriors had no idea what just happened, specifically given the fact that they never felt or heard something like this in their lives. As if the gods had suddenly throweed a thunder from the heaves against the mortals.
The air of ordinary life was shaken away in an instant, as now everyone had fear, shock and uncertainty clear in their faces as they had no idea what to do now except pray to the gods to have mercy on their souls. Then was followed by chaos as the scum of Telta began to recover and began to take advantage of this event.
As for the city's guard, they could barely grab their swords without shaking as they were suddenly attacked by bandits. But their superior training save their necks as they defended themselves, as they slashed, gutted and parried their new foes.
But for the people outside of Telta, such as arriving travellers, merchants, slavers and famers they were left on the ground. Hands on their ears as the ringing thunder still resonated inside them, some with blood starting to leak out on their nose and ears.
As one simple boy lied on the ground along with his mother and younger sister outside Telta in their little farm, he started to get back up his feet. They were just outside planting their crops when the red light just appeared in the forest. At first he and his sister were curious and awed by it, but their mother had growing sense of dread in her body when she first saw it. She quickly demanded her offspring to close their eyes and cover their ears with their hands, suddenly shock by the sudden change in their mother they quickly did what she said.
Later on they would be very grateful for following her advice.
Getting in shaking feet, the boy began to look around him in to see what happened to the light. He saw his mother comforting his scared sister, saying her sweet words and hugging her with all her life. The felt a sudden relief when also saw that whatever pushed them back hadn't destroyed their farm and house, each of them looking intact.
Then he stopped when he laid his eyes where the forest once had been.
There was not a forest anymore. The trees were ripped out off their roots and the ground was burned till it had a black color, the trees that survived were burning and it began to spread around till there was blooming fire that reached several feet into the sky. The smoke of the fire began to cloud the skies from a deep blue into a greyish black.
And on the center of it all, was a something that he would never forget in his life.
It's was kneeling on the ground but from even this far he could see that it still big. Red and black smooth skin covered every part of its body, giving him the first impression that it was covered in blood. He could see smoke and tiny sparks of lighting coming out its body and what looked like spikes sprouting out its back like the horns of an minotaur like his mother told him about the bull men. He saw its arms and where they ended in odd spear-like limbs where hands should normally be.
Then he saw it's head, which looked an intimidating helmet with two horns sprouting out like in its back, and saw that it had no mouth or nose or ears. The only thing he could consider to be it's eyes were six lines in it's 'face', colored with a deep heavy red.
Red eyes that seemed to lock in his own as it turned its head to look at him.
He then passed out into unconsciousness by his sudden experience with what he believed to be one the demons of Emroy's or Hardy's or another dark God he doesn't know.

Well, now to answer some reviews.
Coment9: Well, its actually a combination of the anime, manga and light novels. But given with the arrival of the A.C.Us and the power they carry, the original plot can kiss its ass goodbye.
Just a Crazy-Man: Thanks for your kind words and honestly I feel bit honored to get a review from another with 10 fics under his belt.
naufalrakha0104: Don't worry, I hadn't bited the dust yet.
Cooldude101011: Four words, 'Venezuela and Latin America'.
Mangoose: I hold the Supreme Commander very close to my heart, yes, even Supreme Commander 2. SC Forged Alliance is not called 'The best RTS game of all time' for nothing you know.
Somebody: Thanks for the kind words my fellow somebody.
UEF Fan: Its pretty obvious how could this have ended if it played out like a normal match in the game. I rised a bit the difficulty to the A.C.Us so it doesn't end in instant cuberstomp and nuking.
Well that's everything for now, see you around for the next time I post.
Hopefully it doesn't take as long while nothing unexpected happens, like when someone stoled the cables of my neighborhood and leaved me and my friends without internet and T.V for WEEKS. By the third week we managed to find a replacement and so far there were not a single surprise.
...
I hope it stays in that way.
