Chapter Ten

The Citadel

It had taken a few weeks before Ellana officially became a Padawan. They were many things that needed to be done to finalize the procedure. Firstly, Solana had to talk with Instructor Leane about choosing her as a Padawan meaning that her schedule with her clan was to be finalized as her training will be taking a more personalized approach. She will still be allowed to go back in class when she is at the Temple, but they will be more race based and learning about the numerous species and deepening upon their cultures and others.

Sara and Scott were shocked to learn that she was chosen to be a Padawan when she told them about it. Of course, she wasn't the only one chosen as a lot of other Younglings from other clans were chosen as well but as the one of the first wave of Younglings chosen to be Padawans a few months after their Gathering, it was a good feeling to actually move up in the ranking of the Jedi.

The next thing was adding it in the records of the Jedi Order by a member of the Council along with her lightsaber and even a holo image of her. Most of the Council had agreed with their partnership and Grand Master Carlyle had a light twinkle in his eyes as he observed them when the two had arrived within the chambers to make their case known.

It was mostly Solana talking but it did gain the Council's attention and ultimately their approval, but Ellana felt that when the Grand Master gave them his approval, not a lot of the others wanted to go against his words.

The next thing that happened was that she will no longer be staying in the Dormitory but in Solana's quarters. It was a shift in things were going on with her, but it was how it was always done within the Jedi Order. Solana's quarters were scarcely decorated, thought there were some form of decoration with the painting of a forest on the wall and some plates and cups for food and even a tea set. There were two rooms within her quarters and Ellana had been set up in the unused room and it had taken her some time to get used to it, but she soon will be.

The third thing was gaining her padawan braid as well as spending some time meditating with her new Master. Solana had told her that it was something she did with her own Master when she was a Padawan herself, and from what she had explained, it was a way of connecting to one another, something she called a Force connection or as it was commonly called a Force bond. While it was not something that was usually done between Masters and their Padawans, however, Solana had explained it to her as something that was of a tradition for her.

Her new Master had taken to teach her herself in the way of the lightsaber. Ellana had once told her that she was proficient in Form One and Two, she hadn't really touched form Five and higher. They were Six form of lightsaber combat knowledgably.

Form One was mostly for beginner and Younglings thought many Jedi Knights and Masters still uses it. Form Two was for direct blade to blade combat. A one-on-one form of lightsaber combat that was solely made for that simple purpose.

Form Three was a completely defense form. It was mostly to defend against attack and wear out the opponent you are fighting against and it was what Master Solana was proficient in.

And it was the form that Ellana found herself learning in the following months after being chosen as a Padawan.

"A summon by the Council?" Ellana said frowning lightly, "You mean a mission."

Her Master nodded.

"Indeed," she said.

Ellana can feel a light excitement coursing through her at the thought of doing an actual Jedi mission. She knew that most of the missions Jedi went through were varied from simple diplomatic mission to some that were here for protection in some of the Jedi Outposts that were on some planets in the Frontier, the area that was on the edge of the Terminus System.

"Calm yourself Padawan," Solana told her, "You're broadcasting again."

"Oh…sorry," Ellana answered.

The two arrived within the Council room. The Seven seats were not fully filled as some of the Masters were off world right now, thought the Grand Master of the Jedi Order, Carlyle was present.

"Ah, yes," he said when they entered, "Knight Amell, Padawan Lavellan a mission for you."

Solana frowned lightly.

"What type of mission?"

"A mission to the Citadel," another master spoke out, Master Mahariel said with a light frown, "We received words from Master Kresh who was stationed there."

"A diplomatic mission then," Solana said with a light nod.

"Indeed," Carlyle told her, "A good way to get started with your Padawan."

"Of course, Master," Solana said.

Carlyle looked at Ellana, giving her a light smile.

"Enjoy your time on the Citadel," he said, "New paths that will be opened for you to help."

Ellana tilted her head confused for a moment but that was all she managed to go before they were bowing to the Council as they were now leaving the room, walking side by side with each other.

"the Citadel is the seat of power for the Council races right?" she asked looking up at Solana beside her.

Solana nodded at her.

"You are right in thinking that," she said with a light nod, "I haven't been there a lot in my time. Not like the Citadel ever needed the Jedi in the first place given the many ships and fleet that patrol the space around the station."

Ellana frowned lightly.

"I thought that the Jedi and the Council were allies?" she asked.

Solana smiled.

"Just because we are allies," she said, "Doesn't mean we agree on a lot of things. We will be traveling, that mean taking your cloak with you as well."

"Of course, Master," Ellana told her with a light smile.

"Why don't you head up toward our quarters and grab your things," Solana suggested, "I will be in hangar bay 13 to get the ship ready."

Ellana nodded at the woman again before they went their separate ways. She quickly made her way toward their shared quarters. She was quick to pick up the golden cloak that her Master had gotten for her in the first few months of her Padawan. She quickly passed the top of the cloak upon her shoulders and attached it in the golden buckle that was in the shape of the Jedi insignia. She didn't bother throwing the hood upon her form as she turned away, making sure that her belt was secure along with the lightsaber hilt before making her way out of the room.

It didn't take long for her to reach Hangar bay 13 as they were few Jedi present working upon their personal ships. It was where the most personal ships of the Jedi were situated. Ellana caught sight of her Master standing by a slightly small ship. It was not a frigate but it was still well designed. It was an expensive ship from the looks of it, and the steel still shines lightly from the light of the sun coming against it.

"Is this a Ferelden Yatch?" Ellana asked, tilting her head lightly.

An impressed look appeared upon Solana's face.

"You know your ships?"

"I remember seeing it in one of my friend's data about ships," Ellana answered her, surprised that her master even had a ship, "I thought those were made for Ferelden royalty?"

Solana laughed lightly.

"You would be right," she said, "But it was a gift from the Ferelden King to me. Myself and Master Mahariel helped free his planet in the past and this was his gift to us…well to the Jedi Order mostly but I am the one that usually uses it. Come on, Padawan, let's get going to our mission."

Ellana nodded at her and climbed upon the ship and into the interior was as luxurious looking as the outside. It was minimal decoration within the ship, something that she doubts will change soon given the nature of the Jedi themselves. She followed her Master toward the cockpit as the woman took a seat upon the pilot's chair and she took her seat beside her.

Solana gave her a light glance and a small smile before powering up the vessel and then they were flying out of the hangar and into the sky, leaving the Temple behind. Ellana had a light glance toward the large building that had been her home for the since she had arrived there years ago and she was now leaving it for the first time since her Gathering.

"Everything alright?" Solana asked her, a light tilt of her head.

"It's just…I've never left the Temple before," Ellana said, "Not since my Gathering at least and that was months ago."

"Then take a good look," Solana said, "As a Padawan, you will be moving more around the galaxy now rather than be at the Temple. You won't be back for a long while."

Ellana nodded at her and Solana then refocused upon the controls in front of her. They had now left the atmosphere of Odessa and were now in the blackness of space with the stars dotting the blackness in front of them.

Solana placed a few numbers at the control in front of her.

"It won't take us long to reach the Citadel," she said, "Odessa is on the edge of Council space after all."

Ellana nodded at her. Solana then took the ship into hyperspace and Ellana watched as the space in front of her transformed into a blue tunnel of light as she felt the ship jump lightly into higher speeds.

Arrival at the Citadel came after a few hours just as Solana had predicted to her. Ellana had quickly placed her robe on before making her way toward the front of the ship as they came out of hyperspace. A purple glow had filled the entire room from the nebula outside of them as she glanced around herself shocked at the massive space station that was in front of them.

A massive ring with four arms extending from them formed the Citadel, the seat of power within the galaxy. They were many other ships flying around the space station that was in front of them and one of the most noticeable was a large star shaped ship that was floating through space like a massive sea creature swimming in a sea of stars.

"It's a space station," Ellana said shocked.

"It is," Solana answered her, "It was discovered by the Asari thousands of years ago and it quickly became the seat of power for them. At the time, given the Sith presence around the Terminus and Attican Traverse, it has quickly become a beacon of hope during the Sith Reign of Darkness."

Ellana had read about that during Jedi History. The Reign of Darkness was a massive war that embroiled the entire galaxy for more than four hundred years. It had been a terrible time given the accord she had heard and even the Jedi had been pushed to their limits at the time as well.

"It had become the seat of power for many after the Reign of Darkness," Solana continued, "And they hadn't wanted to change that and so, the Citadel remained."

"They found it…but who built it?" Ellana asked, tilting her head lightly.

"No one knows," Solana said, "Of course people had tried to find out many times, but they have been no trace of who had done it…thought many believed it was built by the Protheans."

"But the Jedi Archives said that the Protheans were more warlike species than most," Ellana said tilting her head.

Solana glanced at her with a light smile.

"I never said they were right," she answered her, "Just that is the most widely accepted theory. The Protheans were in possession of more highly advanced technology than we have now…this must be why they believe it to be so."

Ellana nodded at her.

The ship continued on the approach as Solana guided them through the many ships that were flying around them, joining a lane of ship that were heading straight for the Citadel.

"Unidentified Vessel, this is Citadel Control," a gravelly voice spoke out, "Identify yourself."

Ellana raised her eyebrows at the voice but Solana seems to have been waiting for it. She taped a few buttons.

"This is Mabari," she answered, "We have a scheduled arrival to the Jedi Temple here on the Citadel. I'm sending my clearance code now."

There was a moment of silence from the other end.

"Mabari, this is Citadel Control," the voice answered, "Clearance code has been verified. Docking Bay B21 is cleared for your arrival. Welcome to the Citadel."

Solana nodded lightly.

"Thank you," she said, "Mabari out."

She left the lane she was in and quickly dove down toward the Citadel passing many ships and even the side around them. Ellana took notice that they were now in the docking bay area with many ships docked but Solana ignored them all, continued forward completely until they reached an empty docking bay. She quickly approached and pressed a few buttons bringing her ship down and Ellana felt it shake lightly as it finally lands.

"We have a Temple here?" Ellana asked surprised.

"Yes," Solana answered powering the ship down, "After the Reign of Darkness, we were given a place upon the Citadel to build a Temple. It's much smaller than the one we have on Odessa. Not many Jedi stay on the Citadel long. Master Kresh is one who had been chosen to manage it."

She had taken her white cloak and placed her hood on. Since Ellana already has her cloak, all she did was place her own hood upon her head as she followed after her master down the ramp of the ship and upon the Citadel. They were few people around, mostly mechanics and such. Ellana quickly noticed that they were the same uniforms as the ones she had seen working on Odessa around the Temple.

"This entire area is for the Jedi?" she asked looking at the woman beside her.

"Yes," Solana answered her, "Once upon a time this was the main Temple of the Jedi Order during the era after the Reign of Darkness…"

The two walked together through the path away from the docking zone. Everything had an artificial look to it, which was no surprise considering that they were on a space station, however, the Force felt strange here as well. She couldn't feel the flow as well as she felt it when she was on Odessa. Of course, Master Solona was still as bright as a supernova, her presence within the Force unchanged.

"The Force feel…different here," she admitted.

Solana let out a small chuckle.

"It's because you're no longer at the Temple surrounded by hundreds of Jedi," she said, "Here no one is actually aware of it like we are…they may be connected to it in some way, however, none of them can cultivate it."

Ellana gave a light nod to her as they walked up some steps and came to a front of the Temple. Solana was right in saying that it was smaller than the one on Odessa. While similar in shape, it was much smaller barely half of the original size. Banners of the Jedi danced upon it's wall as a brief wind danced lightly around it and from this level, Ellana got a good few of the Citadel.

She can see flying cars flying through many of the distant building towers that were visible. She can see numerous adds shining on the side of buildings, advertising their products, seeing people walking in the distance going on about their daily lives. She can even see children among them…

Ellana reached out toward them, feeling it within the Force.

She can feel many things. She can feel their emotions echoing within the Force. She can feel contentment, happiness, frustration, even hate with some other emotions she couldn't name…

Ellana pulled back, not wanting to drown within them. They were powerful emotions…

"So many…," she whispered.

"Careful," Solana told her.

Ellana nodded.

"Come on," Solana said as they two of them walked back toward the Temple.

Hope you have enjoyed that bit.
