Jaune and Ruby were talking at Dave's Great Drinks. "Then I got up and kicked his ass in front of everyone!" Jaune said with a smirk as he drank his mango smoothie.
"Is beating the shit out of Cardin some kind of rite of passage for Pieces?" Ruby asked as Jaune shrugged. "Guess so. Being the new Mid-tier King feels pretty good y'know." Jaune said as Ruby took a bite out of her cookie. "Loving the power huh?" She asked as Jaune shook his head.
"Nah. Sure it feels good to have respect. But it's more about being able to make a difference." Jaune said as Ruby drank down the rest of her smoothie. "Good luck with that…" She said as Jaune shook his head.
"So wanna explain why the first thing you did when you saw me was punch me in the face?" Ruby asked as Jaune shrugged. "Wanted to test myself and show off a bit. Plus I'd figured it'd be the best way to get your attention." He said as Ruby's eye twitched.
"You asshole." She pouted as Jaune laughed. "But did it work?' He asked as Ruby rolled her eyes. "Guess so. I did stick around." She said,
"I've talked enough about myself. How've you been since you went up to the high-tiers?" Jaune asked as Ruby leaned back. "Nothing much. Beat a few people on my first day and won against the pieces 1v4." She said as Jaune's mouth fell open.
"N-n-nothing much?! Are you insane? Taking on the high tiers alone is impressive as hell!" He cried as Ruby shrugged. "Not that hard given I'm a 5.1," Ruby said simply as Jaune sat back down.
"Wow… I kinda expected you to be an Elite Tier but man that's strong!" He said as Ruby took another sip of her smoothie.
"First people I beat were shocked about that too. Called themselves the Triple Trouble." Ruby said aloud as Jaune tilted his head. "Triple… Trouble?" He asked. "Yeah, they're a trio of morons who try to take down any student that enters the High-Tiers," Ruby said as Jaune leaned forward.
"Well? Go on! I wanna hear about it!" Jaune said as Ruby rolled her eyes. "Alright alright."
"It started only mere moments after I left. I was still kinda pissed so they were good stress relievers." Ruby said.
Ruby walked along the hallway as she was walking towards the office of the High-tiers to register herself. "Stupid. Fucking. Moron!" She cursed as she stomped off towards the room.
Her angry ranting was cut off by some outstretching their foot and tripping her. Ruby's hate-filled glare trained on a taller girl with purple hair and green eyes. "What where you're going, shrimp!" The girl said as two boys walked up next to her.
"Name's Undrea! I'm the leader of the Triple Trouble!" She said with a smirk as the two boys laughed next to her. They both had green hair with equally green eyes. "These goons are Dynor and Declan!" She declared as the boys nodded.
"Ok. Wanna explain why the fuck you tripped me?!" Ruby demanded as Undrea backed up. "This bitch got quite the mouth on her eh?" Dynor said as Undrea glared and her eyes started glowing.
"Let me give you the rundown since you seem to want pain. We are the initiation crew!" Undrea said before sharp claws made out of purple energy surrounded her hands. She then raced at Ruby and tried to slash her as Ruby ducked below and struck her stomach.
Undrea jumped back and smirked. "So she can fight!" She said as she cocked her head to the right and Declan raced at her.
He then powered up a small green blast and prepared to fire. The blast struck out as Ruby dodged to the right.
"Is that all you got-" Ruby was cut off by a beam striking her side as she turned to see Dynor smirking. "Not so tough now are we smart mouth!" He said as Ruby glared. "Says the loser fighting 1v3!" She said as he slightly faltered before preparing another blast.
"Shaddup!" He cried as he fired another blast that Ruby dodged but once again she took another beam to her arm.
She dropped to her knees as Undrea came and slashed across her face, causing cuts and drawing blood.
"This is our trio attack! You can't dodge their beams and when you fail and fall, I come and swoop in for the kill!" Undrea said as the boys behind her nodded.
Ruby stood up and glared at them as she closed her eyes. "Well. This should be good stress relief. I was hoping to kick the shit out of someone!" She said before she opened her eyes and they were glowing.
"W-what?" Declan said as his brother glared. "Don't pussy out! We have the advantage. She's just bluffing." Dynor said as Undrea nodded. "Yeah. this bitch can't do shit to us!" She cried as Declan fired a blast.
Ruby then dodged it and as soon as she heard Dynor's she opened her palm and fired out a blast of silver that collided with Dynor's and caused a small explosion. "Damn! Need to really learn how to control those." She thought before she rushed forwards.
Ruby burst through the smoke from the blast and before she could react, Ruby slammed her fist into Undrea's stomach as the purple-haired girl cried out as she was sent flying back.
"Undrea!" The twins called in unison but as soon as they turned around Ruby kicked Dynor in his side and sent him into a wall as Declan tried to fire a blast at Ruby but she pushed his hand up and forced his blast into the ceiling.
"H-how?!" He cried as Ruby punched him in his chest and Delcan was sent directly into his brother.
Undrea stood up as she coughed up blood and glared at Ruby. "Who the hell-" Undrea was cut off by her legs giving out on her as she coughed up more blood.
Ruby walked over to her and grabbed her by her white undershirt and pulled her up. Undrea tried to glare defiantly but Ruby punched her in the face before she could even twist her face.
Undrea hit the ground, knocked out as Ruby turned to the twins and noticed both of them passed out in a pile and sighed. "That wasn't even a workout." She said aloud as she continued to walk towards the office.
"Holy shit…" Jaune breathed as Ruby threw her smoothie cup away. "Not that impressive. They were likely only around 3.7 so, naturally, I'd win." Ruby said in a way that somehow didn't sound like boasting.
"Plus didn't you beat 3 people at once?" Ruby asked as Jaune remembered his match with the mid-tier pieces. "Well yeah! But that's not as impressive when you remember what tier I'm in." He said as Ruby shrugged. "Know anyone else in "your tier" that can do that?" She asked as Jaune shook his head.
"Exactly," Ruby said as she ordered another smoothie. She was abusing the power of Jaune's ticket to its max potential.
"But I'm still interested in how you beat the High-Tier pieces! Now that's an achievement only a few people can boast about!' Jaune said as Ruby sipped her new smoothie. "Well, it was kind of a challenge so I accepted it." She said,
Ruby was walking around the hallway as many students chose to stay out of her way after seeing what she did to the Triple Trouble.
Ruby sighed as she kept walking. Just another day as a (P̧͕̒̊͘s̠҉͍͊ͅy҉̃̀̋̑c͕͗ͤ̕̕ḣ̖̻͛̓o̯̱̊͊͢ B̩͎͍̾ͅỉ͔͖̜͌t̲̂̓ͩ̑c͕͗ͤ̕̕ḣ̖̻͛̓) high ranker.
Eventually, Ruby came to her new locker and saw that there was a note sticking out of it and glared at it.
"Ruby Rose. Please meet me in the arena after school." It read as Ruby pocket the note and opened her locker and grabbed her stuff before leaving.
Ruby walked into the arena to see multiple people standing around. A tall girl with sunglasses turned to her and smirked.
"Ruby Rose? Correct?" She asked as Ruby nodded. The girl walked up to her and put out a hand as Ruby shook it. "Yeah. You?" Ruby said as the girl stepped back. "Coco. Coco Adel. I'm the High-Tier Queen around here." She said as Ruby nodded.
"I heard you defeated the Triple Trouble," Coco said as Ruby nodded. "They attacked me so I put them down." She said as Coco laughed. "Good thing you did. They've been terrorizing new students here for a while." She said as Ruby looked up.
"Then why didn't you step in?" She asked as Coco sighed. "I have. They never listen though." Coco said as Ruby asked a much different question. "Did you fight them?" She asked as Coco turned to her.
"No, of course not. Bringing violence only causes more violence. Can't solve a problem by using the same problem." She said as Ruby was taken aback. That was strange to hear from a high ranker.
"Anyway, I wanted to say that you were awesome. I want to offer you a spot." Coco said as Ruby tilted her head. "A spot?" She asked as Coco smiled. "On the High-Tier Pieces," Coco said as Ruby laughed.
Coco tilted her head as Ruby stopped laughing and smirked. "I didn't know you were hoping to give up your queen title," Ruby said as Coco gasped before laughing herself. "Oh? Cocky are we?" SHe asked as Ruby kept smirking. "Not cocky. Just facts."
"If you're so confident then why don't you take on all of us at once?" Velvet called from the back jokingly as Ruby cracked her knuckles. "Say less." She said as the pieces gasped.
"You can't be serious!" Fox cried as Ruby shrugged. "Wouldn't be the first time." She said as everyone remembered the Triple Trouble and Coco smirked before taking off her sunglasses.
"Alright girl. You've got a challenge. But remember, there's a difference between moxie and arrogance." Coco said as her eyes glowed.
The High-Tier Pieces all stood on one side of the arena as Ruby stood on the other with her arms crossed.
"Shake her down," Coco said as Fox disappeared and Ruby went into a defensive stance. "Where the hell did he go?!" She thought before she felt him appear behind her.
She tried to turn and hit him but he smashed into her back and Ruby coughed up blood. "Shit!" She cried before Yatsuhashi summoned two hands and shot them at Ruby as the girl was grabbed and picked up before the hands slammed the girl into a wall.
She slid down and coughed up more blood as she stood up. Fox once again disappeared and popped up next to Ruby and punched her into a foot created by Yatsuhashi.
"Had enough?" Yatsuhashi said as Ruby glared and picked herself up. The pieces gasped as she healed her wounds and stood up.
"A healing ability? No, there's no way she beat the Triple Trouble with something that basic! There must be more to this." Coco thought as Fox disintegrated himself and appeared behind Ruby and tried to punch her but Ruby barely dodged as Fox gasped.
"How the fuck?!" He cried as Ruby kicked him in the side and sent him into a wall. Yatsuhashi summoned a finger and fired it at Ruby as she prepared a blast and fired it into the finger.
Yatsuhashi cried out as he fell to the ground, clutching his bleeding finger. Coco and Velvet looked at her as Ruby looked back at them.
"Impressed?" Ruby asked as Coco narrowed her eyes. "This isn't some normal ability! She can heal, fire energy, and even power herself up! I have one more trump card though!" She thought as she turned to Velvet and nodded.
Fox then got up and disintegrated and got near Velvet before he disintegrated both of them and shot directly at Ruby.
Fox and Velvet both came out of the form and Fox swung at Ruby as she blocked his punch and kicked him away as Velvet touched Ruby's arm.
Ruby swung around at her and Velvet… disintegrated just like Fox! "What the hell?!" Ruby cried as Velvet reappeared and attempted to punch Ruby. But Ruby batted away her attack before punching Velvet in the chest herself.
"Velvet!" Coco cried as she watched Velvet go flying across the arena. The brunette struggled to stand as she huffed. "H-how?! I couldn't use her ability…" Velvet said as Coco turned to Ruby.
"An ability Velvet can't copy?" Coco asked aloud as Ruby raced at her. Coco grit her teeth as she reeled back her fist and hers and Ruby's fist met in a clash.
A shockwave sent the others back as Ruby stepped back. "A strength enhancer? Way stronger than that low-tier King's, that's for sure!" Ruby said as Coco also seemed to be sizing her up.
"Nice ability you got there," Coco said as Ruby smirked. "Right back at ya! Haven't met someone who could match me in strength!" Ruby said.
Coco then rushed forwards and swung at Ruby at lightning speed as the girl barely dodged and nearly fell as she steadied herself.
"So it's more than a strength enhancer." Ruby thought as Coco tried to punch Ruby in the face again as Ruby blocked the attack and pushed Coco's arms up before Ruby punched her in the chest.
"Got her!" Ruby cheered in her mind before she noticed that Coco didn't seem to have taken any real damage. "What the…?" Ruby asked aloud as Coco smirked. "You think you're the only one with a versatile ability?" Coco said as she rushed at Ruby again and decked the girl across her face before slamming a much more powerful kick to her side.
Ruby hit the wall and coughed up blood and she slumped down and looked up to see Coco rushing at her again.
"How is she so fast?!" Ruby cried in her head and she was kicked across the arena and landed on her back.
"That hit wasn't as strong… could her ability be a form shift? Defense, speed, and power!" She met me with Power and outspeed me with speed and blocked with defense." Ruby thought she healed her wounds and jumped up and smirked.
Ruby jumped back and Coco rushed at her and Ruby slammed her fist into Coco's chest once more and this time the girl was sent flying back into a wall and coughed up blood.
"Surprised? I figured out that your ability can only be used with one form at a time." Ruby cried as Coco smiled. "Well, it makes sense. It's your win." Coco said before a foot appeared behind Ruby.
"Not over yet!" Yatsuhashi called as he attempted to stomp Ruby but she pumped energy into her legs and shot herself back and swung around to kick him in the head and sent him across the arena as he passed out.
Ruby looked around and smirked. "Guess I'm the new Queen now." She said.
"That was awesome! Nice job on figuring out Coco's ability!" Jaune said as Ruby smiled. "Well, I had to. Otherwise, she would've clobbered me. That ability is deadly." Ruby said as Jaune started to think.
"I wonder. She didn't seem to shift from speed to power to increase the power of her attacks. Maybe there's a small cooldown?" Jaune said as Ruby looked up. "Now that you say it. It might." Ruby said as Jaune beamed and Ruby smirked. "You're getting good at reading abilities. Figuring out my healing weakness in all." Ruby said as Jaune perked up.
"How the hell did you heal so fast anyway?" Jaune asked. "I'll let you in on a little secret," Ruby said and Jaune leaned forward. "I didn't fully heal myself during my fight with you or Coco. I healed myself slightly, just enough to move without pain." Ruby said as Jaune gasped.
"Man you're so in tune with your Semblance!" Jaune said, impressed. "I've had my ability for a long time after all," Ruby said as Jaune looked up. "Didn't you get it when you were 14?" Jaune asked as Ruby looked up suddenly. "How did you figure that out?!" She demanded as Jaune was taken aback for a second.
"Well, I figured it out through Dylan. He had used his abilities to dig up your records and told me." Jaune said as Ruby looked down. For the first time, the girl he had seen as so strong… seemed to be scared.
"Anything else…?" Ruby asked, her voice soft. Jaune decided it was finally time to talk about Jay. It would completely derail the great energy they had going on but she needed to know what he knew about her. He could only pray she wouldn't try to kill him.
"I talked to Jay," Jaune said, and at that moment, Ruby's eyes widened as she looked at him with shock. "What?!" She cried as a few people turned to look at her. "Yeah, I talked to him. He told me all about Signal." Jaune said as Ruby seemed to be breathing heavily.
"He told me about how you used your ability and how fast it grew. He told me a few things about his fight with you as well." Jaune said, knowing that this could end up with him in the hospital.
He couldn't see Ruby's face but he heard a small sniffle and he perked up. "Ruby?!" He cried as a few customers looked at him with annoyance.
She looked up and saw tears streaming down her face and she sniffled and hiccupped. He walked around the table and knelt down. This was the last thing he expected.
"What's wrong?" Jaune asked as Ruby rubbed her eyes. "Y-you h-ate me now… don't you..?" Ruby said, choking up her words. The worst fear. Someone finding out she was a P̧͕̒̊͘s̠҉͍͊ͅy҉̃̀̋̑c͕͗ͤ̕̕ḣ̖̻͛̓o̯̱̊͊͢ B̩͎͍̾ͅỉ͔͖̜͌t̲̂̓ͩ̑c͕͗ͤ̕̕ḣ̖̻͛̓. Her first friend… was going to be her last.
But to her surprise, Jaune hugged her. "Of course I don't hate you. Why would I?!" Jaune asked as Ruby looked down.
"You heard all about how I was such a shitty person. Don't you hate that? I bet Jay told you everything." Ruby said as Jaune thought back.
"Before you do anything just be careful. Ruby is a psychotic tyrant and will destroy that school if you let her."
"No, even with all that information I don't hate you. Until recently I was a Creature too. I don't blame you for lashing out after all that." Jaune said as Ruby cried harder into his shoulder.
Jaune didn't want to tell Ruby about what Jay said… there would be no point. She already thought of her old self as a monster.
"Let's get outta here," Jaune said as he stood up. "I think we might be disturbing people." He said as Ruby nodded and wiped her face.
They walked out as Jaune smiled down at her and Ruby smiled back but their moment was interrupted by loud crying.
They ran to the sound and located a small girl crying. "What's up?" Jaune asked as the girl looked up. "I got attacked!" She cried as Jaune and Ruby gasped. "I didn't even do anything to them!" She cried as Jaune felt bad and Ruby clenched her fist.
"Then take revenge," Ruby said as Jaune looked at her with surprise. "But they're so much stronger than me!" She cried as Ruby shook her head. "Then get strong. Work at your ability and defeat them." Ruby said as the girl looked at her before standing. 'I can try!" She said as Ruby nodded. "Go for it!" She encouraged and the girl wiped her tears and smiled confidently. "I'll get crazy strong and then take them down!" She cried before running off.
Ruby looked at her as Jaune looked at Ruby. Was encouraging more violence really a good idea?
Would it truly fix anything?
Jaune dwelled on that for a while as they walked back to Beacon.

I've been rereading unOrdinary for inspiration for this story since I was feeling a little burnt out.
