Jasper had just entered his apartment after a long day at work when his cellphone rang. Checking the caller id before answering, he immediately smiled as he saw Bro written on the screen.
''Hey Hen, how's the honeymoon?'' he asked happily. He couldn't have been happier for his best friends.
''Feels gooood!'' answered Henry in his usual way making Jasp chuckle.
''Great, I'm glad your enjoying yourselves!'' replied Jasper.
''Well, it looks like you're enjoying yourself too!'' teased Henry.
''Eh? What are you talking about?'' wondered Jasp.
''Seems like you waited for me to be in another state to get handsy with my sister!'' accused the taller man.
''WHAT? I...I would never...'' stuttered the trainer shocked with that statement.
''Relax bro!'' laughed Henry. ''I'm kidding...I know, no one in the world would respect Piper more than you do!''
''Oh...well, I'm glad you know it!'' said a relieved Jasper.
''But seriously man! What are you waiting for?'' asked his best friend.
As Jasper sat on his couch, he started stuttering again.
''W...what...I...'' he tried.
''Don't pretend like you don't know what I'm talking about Jasp!'' started Henry. ''Don't waste precious years like I did!'' he said looking up from his seat on the lobby couch to look at his wife who was energically talking with a fellow woman scientist on vacation there.
He smiled as he saw her eyes lighting up at the interesting fact they were discussing. He was taken back to 3 years prior to what finally woke him up about his feelings towards his lifelong best girl friend.
Flashback
Ray and him had just came back from a mission and he was bragging about the girl criminal who had hit on him.
''I'm telling you dude, criminal chicks dig me!'' he said as they were both chewing gums to get back to their normal looks.
Piper and Jasper who were sitting on the man couch gave each other a look before rolling their eyes.
''Oh please! They dig me more...trust me!'' replied Ray selfconfident as always.
They started arguing on what Henry would qualify later as a pointless topic.
''Hey guys!'' said Charlotte coming out of the elevator.
''Hey Char!'' everyone greeted her.
''Is Schwoz here?'' asked Charlotte nervously.
''Yeah. SCHWOZ!'' screamed Ray.
''Ay! What did I do this time?'' asked their friend in his usual accent.
''Ask Charlotte!'' said Ray before bumping Jasper to take place on the man couch, resulting in Jasper bumping into Piper.
Once everyone had finished arguing and were seated comfortably on the man couch, Charlotte took a deep breath before speaking again.
''I have an annoucement!'' she said fidgeting with her hands.
Henry raised an eyebrow at this. Since when was Charlotte nervous and unsure? It must be something serious.
''I...'' she started clearing her throat. ''I'm moving to L.A. next month!''
''WHAT?!'' Henry screamed above all the disbelief coming from the others.
''Why would you do that Charlotte?'' Jasper started with the same intonation they all used when saying her name with frustration.
''Yeah, Charlotte!'' replied Piper.
''Oh, I know...this...this is a prank right?!'' Ray said while laughing like a maniac. ''Good one, Charlotte, you really got us this time!''
''I'm not kidding!'' she stated with all seriousness.
The room fell silent at her response. Henry, who had been unsually quiet since his scream, got up and approached his dear friend.
''But Char, I don't understand...why would you ever want to do that?'' he asked with his voice breaking a bit.
''Well, Jack and I have been texting and videochatting a lot in the last few months and he asked me to move to L.A. to be with him.'' she explained calmly.
''What? Jack Swagger?'' asked Henry with disbelief. ''But I thought you guys were just friends who caught up from time to time.''
Charlotte couldn't believe he could be that oblivious. As anger filled up her body, she looked him dead in the eyes and replied with more honesty then she had ever done before.
''I'm not just everyone's FRIEND, Henry Hart!'' she screamed at him.
Henry backed up a bit at her outburst. Their friends on the man couch all looked at each other with wide eyes and agape mouths. You could feel the awkwardness all around the man cave but Charlotte didn't care. She was on a roll.
''Isn't that what people are supposed to do Henry when they have liked someone for a long time?'' she continued screaming at him while taking a few steps towards the shocked blond. ''Am I suppossed to stay in platonic relationships all my life while you have countless conquests that never seem to last?''
Henry backed up again as she kept taking steps towards him. His mind was blank, his pulse was racing, his legs were jelly. He had no idea what was happening.
''And now, tell me Henry...'' she said calming down as she took deep breaths, tears already strolling down her face. ''Am I supposed to stay for Swellview's sake? Or for my friends? Or for another reason?'' she asked almost begging him to realize what she had come to terms with in the last few years.
''I...'' a shocked Henry started not knowing what to say.
As he alternated from looking at her to looking at his silent friends on the man couch, he understood that he had to choose his words carefully. He had a feeling that the next few seconds could change everything about the rest of their lifes. He still had no idea what to say or where this was coming from but all he knew was that he couldn't lose her...he couldn't bear a life without Charlotte.
''I just want you to stay for me.'' he replied in a soft tone as he saw a glimp of hope entering her gorgeous brown eyes. ''I know I'm being selfish right now but honestly I don't even care...'' he continued as his tone became more passionate.
''I don't want you to leave because I can't bear thinking of a life where I don't see you everyday! A life where you're not the first girl I wanna talk to after a big day. A life where we don't laugh together at those guys' silliness!'' he said pointing at their friends.
''A life where...'' he stopped as he felt his heart skip a beat with the realization that hit him at that moment like a tone of bricks.''A life where you're not the love of my life'' he finished with watery eyes, not being able to look at her anymore.
''I'm sorry!'' he whispered before heading towards the tubes.
A seemingly endless moment passed by with complete silence.
''That should be my line.'' said a Charlotte with a determined voice.
Henry stopped in his track halfway up the steps leading to the tubes, his back facing her.
''What do you mean?'' he asked as he turned around, more confused than ever.
Schwoz who had discreetly ordored 'poopcorn' from the autosnacker passed it to the others. They all took a handfull of it without breaking eye contact with the event that was unfolding before them.
''I mean that I'm the one who's gonna have to apologize'' she continued with a fragile voice as she was finally taking down her walls. ''I'm gonna have to apologize to Jack cause I'm not moving to L.A.''
''Why?'' was the only word that Henry could muster.
''Because I love you, Henry Prudence Hart!'' she exclaimed running towards him before yanking him by his shirt for them to share their very first kiss.
The man cave became filled with cheering and clapping from the gang who were watching them.
''#Chenry!'' yelled Jasper making the couple laugh mid-kiss.
''Yup, two down, two more to go!'' said Ray sharing a knowing look with Schwoz.
''What are you talking about?'' wondered Piper.
''Yeah!'' agreed Jasper.
The only response they got was Schwoz's famous snickering and Ray's laughter.
End of flashback
''Hen, are you still there?'' asked Jasper on the other end of the line.
Henry snapped out of his memories. The only thing he would ever regret was not being with Charlotte sooner. He didn't want two of the most important people in his life to have any regrets.
''Yeah...look Jasp, I love you and Pips to death and I only want what's best for you both.'' he said trying to resonate his friend. ''And I know that you're what's best for each other!''
''But...'' worried Jasper. ''...what if this changes everything?''
''But...'' encouraged Henry. ''...what if this changes everything?''
Jasper sighed understanding what his best friend was telling him. He looked around his empty apartment pondering over that question.
