Rey brings the ship down into the clearing that she had once landed the falcon, excited to be able to show Ben the very first Jedi temple.
"This is where Skywalker was hiding?" he asks incredulously.
"He wasn't hiding from you ben, he was so wracked with guilt from what he did to you that he cut himself off entirely from the force and came here to die." Ben stands from his seat, not ready for this conversation.
"Why don't you show me around?" he tries to shift the conversation away from his uncle.
"Ok, the caretakers shouldn't hate me yet." she tells him standing and taking his arm leading him towards the door.
"What did you do to make them hate you?"
"Tried to shoot you and blew a hole in the wall," she says as the fish caretakers come to greet them, not having seen a Jedi in many generations. The two allow themselves to be led to a hut, food left at the door for them as Ben begins to explain how to meditate with a kyber crystal.
"Is it force sensitive?"
"Technically, but it's a highly debated topic. Everyone has an idea but no one knows for sure,"
"Are the only colors green, blue, purple, red, and yellow?" she asks curiously, the Jedi texts she had read predates the first proto sabers with their bulky energy packs.
"Reds not natural sweetheart, you need to make the crystal bleed to achieve that. It's why only Darksiders use the red crystal." she gasps eyes wide.
"That's terrible ben."
"I know, but I was so angry back then that I cracked my crystal and nearly killed myself when it lashed out at me."
"Well, I'm glad you survived."
"Me too, we should hunker down for the storm that's coming and start meditating in the morning."
"Sounds like a good plan, we should probably head back to the ship; these huts are not watertight."
"Perfect for fish nuns." he jokes and Rey smiles.
"I've noticed you joke a lot, It's nice," she says as they grab the platters of food heading back for the ship sealing the door just as the storm hits.
Rey leads Ben to the place Luke had walked her through her first meditation, the two of them sitting on either side of the light side dark side symbol beginning their meditation, their Kyber floating in front of them and their sabers sitting at their feet.
Hours pass and then a day without either side of the dyad moving and then another and another until the third day when Rey finishes attuning her crystal and uses the force to place it into her saber, she turns to ben and has to keep from excitedly telling him it is done falling asleep waiting for him to finish.
Ben finishes six hours after Rey putting his saber together and turning to see her asleep against the wall, he stands, clipping his new saber to his hip and carefully tucks an arm under her leg and another under her back picking her up softly and using the force to bring her lightsabre after them as he carries her back towards the ship tucking her under the blankets and sitting in the seat on the other side of the room reading a historical textbook on Naboo.
Rey wakes up Two hours after to find Ben still reading. "Why didn't you wake me?" she asks climbing out of the bed and grabbing her saber.
"Well, are you going to show me?"
"I'll show you mine if you show me yours" he offers and she flushes.
"Ben!" she chides
"Ok ok, let's do this outside. We wouldn't want to damage the ship." The two go outside and Ben ignites his purple crossguard saber, raising an eyebrow at Rey who ignites her yellow lightsaber pike.
"Fitting." he notes and the two share a look before they are on each other lightsabre meeting lightsaber, Rey pulls back swinging the metal pike at his feet, which he easily avoids spinning back holding his saber towards her before advancing again ben catching her saber on the crossguard moving it into the ground and knocking her on her butt with his shoulder, Rey kicking his leg out from under him watching with satisfaction as he falls into a puddle both laughing as they deactivate their lightsaber, Rey realizing that Ben's laughter is her new favorite sound.
