Title: Meeting Johnny Topside
Transcript Of Dr. C. Ebony's Recording:
Ebony: Hey Jerome, how about another drink for me?
Jerome: Coming right up…
(Somebody walks into the bar and looks around the area before spotting some stools at the main bar and walks towards them before sitting down on the stool next to Ebony."
Johnny Topside: Make that order two drinks why don't you, Jerome.
Jerome: O-okay sounds good to me, two drinks coming right up.
Ebony: I don't recall ever making that order or promise to buy another drink for someone I don't remember ever seeing or meeting in Rapture.
Johnny Topside: Well, now you just did.
(Jerome comes back and gives them their drinks one glass of rum for Ebony and one whiskey for Johnny.)
Ebony & Johnny: Thanks.
Jerome: No problem, boys.
Johnny Topside: So, what brings a big doctor in the field of a geneticist and engineering, a city council member, and best and brightest of 1952 doing down here in a lonely bar?
Ebony: I was about to ask you the same thing Mr. Celebrity and finding Rapture all on his own.
(Both take a quick drink while bring down their glasses down onto the bar counter.)
Johnny Topside: Seems you did some homework on me, huh.
Ebony: As you did to me Mr. Topside. So, what does a celebrity like you doing down here in the lonely bar like me? Shouldn't you be out and about partying and drinking with the high and middle class people.
Johnny Topside: Ha ha, you would think with me being a celebrity and all, but to answer your question though. I just wanted to wander around and explore Rapture for myself, take in the sights, sounds, and wonders of thus underwater world and talk and meet new people like you for example.
Ebony: Well, I guess can't blame you for wanting to know what Rapture is like since you're still new to Rapture's environment and people but after a while though the sights, the sounds, and the wonder begin to fade and become dull after some time then it becomes like normal and everyday life now. It's no different than the surface world.
Johnny Topside: Well, I have found Rapture to be quite enjoyable so far.
Ebony: You'll say that now Johnny, but you haven't lived as long as I have down here in Rapture. When you live here in Rapture Johnny as long as I have, than come back to me and tell me how right I was but until then keep that enjoyable shit stuff to yourself hmm.
Johnny Topside: Ha, you're a funny man Ebony. Has anybody ever told you that?
Ebony: No, most people think I'm too serious and mature to be funny but you're certainly the first person to mention it or talk about it. Believe it or not I do have a sense of humour inside of me if you can believe that or not.
Johnny Topside: Oh, I believe it alright it's just buried underneath your bad sense of humour, Ebony.
(Both men laughed hard before their laughter died down and both took a second drink from their glasses before bringing down their glasses back to the bar counter top.)
Ebony: I haven't laughed like that in sometime probably in years even. Thank you for that Johnny, you're a good friend to have and talk with.
Johnny Topside: You consider me your friend?
Ebony: What else would I consider you as Johnny? An enemy or a rival, no I already have enough enemies and rivals down here in Rapture to last me a life time and adding you to my list of enemies and rivals is just too damn tiringly to be honest.
Johnny Topside: That's good to know. Is there anything I should know about Rapture since I'm living down here and all?
Ebony: There are somethings you should know about Rapture if you're willing to listen, Johnny?
Johnny Topside: Is it about this Frank Fontaine and Sofia Lamb fellows that the people have been telling and warning me about then?
Ebony: So the people have told you about them, I guess I don't need to explain their back arounds than. The only advice I have for you Johnny about them is this just stay the hell away from them and don't get involved with them because if you do join them you'll have more than a dagger in your back.
Johnny Topside: Noted, Ebony. Anything else I should be worried about besides Fontaine and Lamb?
Ebony: Well, there are a few things I should warn and caution you on Johnny. One, don't go speaking out against Ryan in anger, hate, or negative way otherwise Andrew Ryan will find out about it and will send his men to come and get you and have you in prisoned for just speaking out against him which is silly and childish if you ask me, but again Ryan's in charge of Rapture after all so don't do anything crazy and insane like speaking out against him or trying to kill him. And the other warning and caution Johnny stay away from the Rapture Tribune.
Johnny Topside: Rapture Tribune, you mean the newspaper company in Rapture?
Ebony: Yes, the very one. Some of the reporters and journalists have already done stories on you already and it's spreading like wild fire. However there are some reporters, journalists, and writers out there in Rapture you need to be aware of and stay away from. You see the Rapture Tribune paper is good to read and want, but its members are divided into three groups.
Group one, are the members who are loyal to the news company itself are the ones who you don't need to be worried and warned of since all they want is a good and perfect story but their like pests and like all pests they need to be chased and rid away for good.
Group two, are the members who are loyal and work for insane and crazy people like Fontaine or Lamb those are the members who you need to be worried and cautioned on otherwise the members will send word onto people like Fontaine and Lamb and once they catch word of you. You either join them, go missing, or you end up dead plain and simple. So stay away from the second group.
And group three, are just like group two I just mentioned. The members who are loyal to Ryan work as double agents. They work for the newspaper company, but they also work in secret for Andrew Ryan himself they are the ones who you Johnny need to be very worried about and stay away from because if they catch something up on you weather it's in the past or present. You're pretty much dead and gone for.
Johnny Topside: So, it's groups two and three I should stay away from and distrust the most right?
Ebony: Exactly.
(Both took another drink from their glasses before bringing back down their glasses to the bar counter top.)
Johnny Topside: Anywhere I go there's always a bunch of assholes that either like or hate me. It's a never ending cycle I guess.
Ebony: Any place is like that Johnny, places like Rapture, the surface world and any other worlds always have a bunch of assholes that either like, love, or hate us. It's just best to ignore them and move on with our lives.
Johnny Topside: And that's something we both can agree on right, my good friend?
Ebony: Indeed my good friend, indeed.
End Of Audio Recording.
Author's Note: Well, there you have it everyone. That's how Ebony and Johnny Topside aka Subject Delta meet and knew each other as friends. I know that the meeting at bar of all places is a bit cliché and over used a lot, but it's better this way I think. Any who, but please everybody enjoy the new chapter and have a great and wonderful Friday and weekend. Oh and stay safe too, everyone.
