"Shepard, there's something I need to tell you," he said nervously, holding her hand. "I've met someone." he sighed, letting go of all his worries and stress that had been building up for the past few months. He continued to hold her hands, unable to look at her face just yet, "I feel so terrible, so guilty. I love you Shepard, I've been waiting for you but it's been almost 10 years. How much longer should I wait? How much longer can I wait?" Finally he looked at her, laying there in the hospital bed as beautiful as ever. She looked like she was finally getting the rest she deserved But dammit Shepard, you've rested long enough.
Garrus and the rest of the crew had been stuck on Zorya when Shepards body was found in the rubble. It had been almost a year until they got back to Earth, and by that time the Alliance had found her and she had been in the hospital. She was badly injured, if not for her synthetics and implants she would have died again. All of her bones were broken, 90% her body was burned, her internal organs had either exploded or been so mangled it was hard to tell what was what. How she had survived with the extent of her injuries was beyond the doctors, or anyone's belief. As soon as Garrus had heard about Shepard and knew where she was he rushed to go see her, only to be told he couldn't. She was in the Intensive Care Unit and only medical personnel were allowed to be around her, no one was allowed to visit her for half a year. A lot of moments were touch and go but Shepard never gave up. That's just who she was. The doctors put her in a medically induced coma until her internal injuries were healed and weaned her off the drugs after another year. She continued to heal and continued to sleep. The doctors regularly monitored her brain waves and health, they said she had strong neural activity and can wake up at any time, "It's like she doesn't want to wake up." they said. Shepard had been sleeping for eight and half years.
"She's a Turian, a civilian, my father set us up, you know how he is. He thought it was time I moved on, I disagreed, of course, but one night at a family gathering on Palavan, he Invited Altaria and introduced us. I was courteous but I didn't care to get to know her, I have you. But he insisted I spend some time with her and exchange extranet IDs since she came all the way to meet me." Garrus looked at Shepard, sighing he dropped her hand, "I don't know why I'm telling you this or if I even should be. I love you Shepard, so much. I need you to wake up please. Please wake up for me." Garrus' voice cracked, his subharmonics hummed with sorrow, any Turian could hear. He grabbed both her hands, buried his face into her sleeping body and cried.
