Chapter 10
Steve walked towards the helicopter, Madison following on his heels as backup. Her father had objected, but Pietro backed her up.
Just as they reached the helicopter, a device hit it and disabled the electronics.
They looked up and saw Tony.
Tony and Rhodey landed.
"Wow, it's so weird how you run into people at the airport. Don't you think that's weird?" Tony asked Rhodey.
"Definitely weird."
"Hear me out, Tony. That doctor, the psychiatrist, he's behind all this," Steve told him.
T'Challa jumped out of the shadows and landed next to them. "Captain."
"Your Highness."
"Excuse me if I don't curtsy," Madison quipped, wanting to get under T'Challa's skin.
"Anyways, Ross gave me 36 hours to bring you in. That was 24 hours ago," Tony told them, "Can you help a brother out?"
"You're after the wrong guy."
"Your judgement is askew. Your old war buddy killed innocent people yesterday."
"And there are five more super soldiers just like him, Tony!" Madison yelled.
"I can't let the doctor find them first, Tony. I can't," Steve said.
Natasha appeared on the other side of them. "Steve, Baby Bird, you know what's about to happen. Do you really wanna punch your way out of this one?" Natasha asked.
"Mama…" Madison said.
"There's still time to prevent this. You can hang up your bow and start your life with Pietro. You can get married, have children. Just like you always wanted to."
"I think you know as well as I do that I'll never be able to hang up my bow."
"All right, I've run out of patience. Underoos!" Tony yelled.
A familiar web grabbed Steve's shield and Spider-Man landed on the top of a luggage car.
"Peter?" Madison asked.
"You know him?" Steve asked her.
"Um, you know when I came to DC and told you I met someone…?"
"Nice job, kid," Tony said.
"Thanks. I could have stuck the landing a little better, it's just…new suit. It's nothing, Mr. Stark. It's perfect. Thank you," Peter said, "Uh, hey Maddie."
"Maddie?" Steve asked.
"Oh hush," Madison told him.
"We don't really need to start a conversation," Tony told him.
Madison smiled, missing Peter's nervous rambling.
"Okay. Cap. Captain." Peter saluted him, "Madison's told me so much about you. Big fan. I'm Spider-Man."
"Yeah, we'll talk about it later," Tony said.
"You've been busy," Steve told Tony.
"And you've been a complete idiot. Dragging in Clint, "rescuing" Wanda from a place she doesn't even want to leave, a safe place. I'm trying to keep…" Tony sighed. "I'm trying to keep you from tearing the Avengers apart."
"I think you're doing a perfectly good job of that yourself, Tony," Madison told him.
"Madison's right. You did that when you signed," Steve said.
"Oh of course. Because Madison's always right. Tell me, do you even have your own ideals? Hmmm? Or did you get all your ideals from him?" Tony asked, "Idolizing him as a child. You and Coulson."
"Don't you dare bring him up!" Green fire started to lick at Madison's fingers.
"All right, we're done. You're gonna turn Barnes over, you're gonna come with us now, because it's us or a squad of J-SOC guys with no compunction about being impolite."
"We found it," Steve and Madison heard Sam say through their ear-pieces, "Their Quinjet's in hangar five, north runway."
Madison smiled as Steve raised his hands and an arrow shot through Peter's webbing.
"All right, Lang," Steve said.
"Guys, something…" Peter said as Lang grew and kicked him in the chin.
Madison winced.
"What the hell was that?" Rhodey asked.
"I believe this is yours, Captain America," Lang said, handing the shield to Steve.
"Oh, great," Tony groaned, "All right, there's three on the parking deck. One of them's Maximoff. I'm gonna grab her." Tony took off.
"Rhodey, you wanna take Cap? Natasha, deal with your daughter."
"Got two in the terminal. Wilson and Barnes," Rhodey said.
T'Challa took off running. "Barnes is mine."
Madison holstered her bow and got into a fighting stance. "No powers?"
"Let's see what you got, Baby Bird."
Madison rushed at Natasha, who put her on her back.
"Gonna have to do better than that, malen'kiy (little one)."
Madison jumped up and tried to replicate one of Natasha's moves, but got pinned instead.
"Losing your edge? That's what happens when you fall in love."
Madison grit her teeth as fire spread through her veins.
Natasha was suddenly thrown off of her. She found herself pinned down by Pietro.
He cocked his head at her. "What? You didn't see that coming?"
