Scene 1: Luciani Residence. Morning

Carina quietly exits her room in a hurry. She begins to stuff her books into her bookbag as she races out of the door, but her mother, Maggie, appears in the hall with a paper bag containing Carina's lunch. Maggie is a kind, supportive and compassionate parent but was obese. In addition, Maggie had become agoraphobic and ashamed of her obesity.

Maggie: Carina Luciani! I know you are not leaving this house without saying goodbye to your mother.

Carina closes the door and turns to her mother. She has a defeated look on her face. Maggie can tell something is wrong.

Maggie: You spent the last week sitting in your room crying. I haven't seen you this upset since your father.

Carina: I'm sorry if I was distant over spring break. Everything is just happening all at once, that's all. Isaiah, K.C., and Kenzie. I just want to get this day over with, mama.

Maggie: I know things are tough at your age, but you stayed true to your feelings and ended things with Isaiah instead of leading him on. You cannot let others' actions or reactions affect you.

Carina sighs deeply. She felt much better hearing her mother's advice.

Maggie: Now get to school before you're late. I love you, my little lovebug.

Carina: I love you too, but I have to go.

Carina grabs her lunch and kisses her mother on the cheek before leaving out the door.

OPENING CREDITS

Scene 2: Degrassi (Main Foyer). Morning

Carina enters the school building to see the students gathering around. The Power Squad breaks out into a routine. Kenzie and Isabella are front in center. As they transition into their next formation, Kenzie kisses K.C., who is watching in the crowd. Isabella rolls her eyes but continues to have a smile on her face as Mia watches. The squad begins to clasp as they take steps forward.

The Spirit Squad: P-A-N-T-H-E-R-S. Panthers. Panthers. P-A-N-T-H-E-R-S. Panthers. Panthers.

They move to transition into a diamond formation. Shay kneels while executing a high V. Several squad members perform backhand springs. The audience begins to applaud.

Mia: Give it up for our Panthers. This weekend they are headed to cheer our boys' basketball team and compete in the All-Star National Cheer Competition. So make sure you show up to send the teams off. Buses leave promptly at 9 am.

The students begin to disperse. Isabella runs over to Carina. They look over to see Kenzie flirtatiously touching K.C.

Isabella: Just ignore them.

Carina: Trust me, I will.

The two proceed to walk down the hall.

Scene 3: The Dot. Afternoon

Jack and Alicia are seated at one of the booths laughing when Decker enters the café. He scans the room, searching for the two before finally approaching the table. He greets Jack with a kiss and takes a seat.

Decker: Sorry for being late. Mr. Conpompeo wanted to meet like I don't already have a million and one things to finish before graduation.

Decker notices the college brochures spread across the table. He picks up the Concordia flyer.

Decker: I didn't know you were considering Concordia.

Jack: Alicia and I were discussing their Administration program. It allows me to study business, but with more flexibility.

Alicia: I'll be right by his side studying Communication and Cultural Studies. Another four years together.

Decker forces a smile to observe how excited Jack and Alicia are talking about their next journey together. However, he felt as if he was being left behind.

Decker: I forgot that I have to get home.

Jack: Everything okay?

Decker: Of course. I just forgot that I promised my dad that I would help him move some furniture.

Decker quickly gathers his things and races off without a word.

Scene 4: Outside Degrassi. Morning

Buses are lined up outside the school. Students congregate outside the school as they wait to load the bus.

Mia: Ladies, can you please gather around.

Mia gestures to the Power Squad to come over.

Shay: What's going on, Coach Jones?

Mia: I just received word that Alana twisted her ankle, so she's not able to compete.

Kenzie: Don't we need 12 members to compete.

Mia: Unfortunately, we wouldn't be able to perform unless we find another member.

Carina exits the school. Isabella quickly approaches.

Isabella: I need the biggest favor, Rinibini.

Carina: I feel like I might regret this.

Isabella takes ahold of Carina, and they make a run for it.

Scene 5: Degrassi (Hallways). Morning

Madison makes her way down the halls of an empty school. Suddenly Xavier appears in the background. He quickly tries to hide around the corner, but Madison spots him.

Madison: You know you don't have to avoid me.

Xavier shamefully faces Madison.

Xavier: Listen, I'm sorry about everything that has happened. I never wanted to hurt your feelings.

Madison rolls her eyes as she crosses her arms. She tried to hide her frustration, but she couldn't hold back any longer.

Madison: You don't get to apologize, Xavier! You can tell yourself you didn't want to hurt my feelings to try and ease your guilt, but you decided to humiliate me publicly in front of the entire school.

Xavier: I just didn't want the team to get the wrong idea.

Xavier looks around the hall.

Xavier (whispering): I'm not gay.

Madison was in disbelief. She begins to walk away, but Xavier grabs her hand turning her around to face him.

Xavier (voice cracking): I'm sorry. I like you, Madison. I really do, but I can't.

Madison steps closer to Xavier.

Madison: I am a proud trans-female. I'm not going to allow you or anyone else to make me feel like I have anything to be ashamed of or hide.

Xavier pulls Madison in, and the two begin to kiss passionately.

Scene 6: School Bus. Afternoon

Marcel pops his head up over the seat in front of him to see Isabella and Carina.

Marcel: Carina, the cheerleading!

Carina and Isabella turn their heads.

Carina: I cannot believe you talked me into this.

Isabella: Don't overthink it. Marcel and I will teach you the choreography all night if we have to.

Marcel: Marcel will?

Isabella (assertively): Yes…you will, Marcel.

Kenzie's laughter can be heard, which catches the attention of Carina, Isabella, and Marcel. They look over to see K.C. and Kenzie making out. Carina begins to look out the window.

Scene 7: Mason's Home (Living Room). Afternoon

Emma opens the door to see Decker standing at the threshold.

Decker: Hey Mrs. Mason. Is Jack here?

Emma: I think he's with Spinner. They're doing some shopping for university next year.

Decker: I thought he just started looking at schools?

Emma can sense that something is wrong with Decker.

Emma: How about we have a seat until they come back.

Decker: I should probably get going. Thank you, Mrs. Mason.

Decker proceeds to make his exit out the door.

Scene 8: Degrassi (Hallway/Classroom). Afternoon

Jaylen steps out of the classroom to see Madison and Xavier strolling the hall.

Mr. Wright: Avery and Matthews, this is detention, not the park.

Madison begins to blush. Xavier turns to Madison before they enter the classroom.

Xavier: Can we keep what happened between us?

Madison's face cracks. She continues to enter the classroom without a response. Xavier felt ashamed hurting Madison without the intention.

Scene 9: Stadium Gymnasium. Afternoon

Cheerleaders begin to race into the stadium in excitement. Carina takes it all in feeling.

Carina: This is going to be a crazy weekend.

Marcel appears beside Carina.

Marcel: Damn right!

He races towards another group of Power Squad members. Shay gestures the squad to gather around.

Shay: Please see Coach Jones for rooming assignments. Also, we're doing early morning practice, so don't be up all night messing around.

Everyone brushes past Shay, not paying any attention. They were focused on everything around them. Kenzie enters with her arms intertwined with K.C. dragging him out of the stadium. Marcel creeps up behind Carina.

Marcel: You've been acting weird around Kenzie and K.C ever since the dance.

Carina is startled, turning around to see it's only Marcel.

Marcel: Are you secretly crushing on Kenzie's boyfriend?

Carina: It's not like that, Mar.

Marcel had a look of disappointment.

Marcel: Kenzie is your best friend. If she finds out that you have feelings for K.C, you can probably kiss our whole group goodbye.

Carina: I'm not. I have to go practice for this stupid competition.

Carina grabs her bag as she leaves.

Scene 10: The Dot. Morning

Jack walks into the Dot, where he spots Decker sitting at one of the booths studying. He takes a seat across from Decker with a concerned look on his face.

Jack: What's going on with you, Decker? Emma told you stopped by but left in a hurry.

Decker sighs as he closes his book.

Decker: This is our last year together, Jack, and you're planning your future without me.

Jack: You're my boyfriend. My future is with you now and always.

Decker: You say that, but you're going to school with Alicia miles away. I don't have enough credits, so I'll be at Degrassi for another semester trying to boost my grades.

Jack takes ahold of Decker's hands.

Jack: I'm sorry if I made you feel like I was leaving you behind. I never want you to feel like you can't come to me and talk.

Decker: I know. I know. It's my insecurities, but I want you to chase your dream, even if that means a long-distance relationship.

Jack and Decker lean across the table and share a kiss.

Scene 11: Degrassi (Classroom/Hallway). Afternoon

Jaylen looks at his watch then rises from behind his desk.

Mr. Wright: Detention is now over. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Madison: What weekend Mr. Wright?

Students begin to file out of the classroom. Xavier gathers his things and tries to catch up to Madison.

Xavier: Can we talk? I know what I said earlier, but that's not what I meant.

Madison: You said how you felt, Xavier. I don't want to be anyone's secret.

Xavier: Madison.

Madison: I'll see you on Monday, Xavier.

Madison proceeds to exit the school.

Scene 12: Stadium Gymnasium. Morning

Spectators begin filling the stadium bleachers as hundreds of cheerleaders are prepping for their big performances. There are last-minute practices, idle chatter between squads, and stretching. Isabella and Carina are doing their final practice.

Isabella: 1 and 2, 3 and 4. 5,6,7,8.

Carina is following the moves as Isabella counts off, but she continues to miss a step. Carina becomes frustrated.

Carina: I'm never going to get it. This was a big mistake.

Carina runs off. Isabella tries to follow, but Marcel stops her.

Marcel: It's okay. She just needs a minute.

Marcel begins to back away, but he bumps into another cheerleader wearing a marron and white cheer uniform. Marcel turns around and becomes mesmerized.

Cooper (nervously): I'm so sorry. I should have been paying attention.

Marcel is speechless, which never happens.

Cooper: The names Cooper. I'm cheering with Bardell.

Marcel: I'm Degrassi cheering with Marcel.

Cooper begins to chuckle.

Cooper: See you later, Degrassi.

Kenzie appears behind Marcel with a smile. Marcel gives her a playful push as they make their way to the rest of the squad.

Scene 13: Outside Stadium (Benches). Morning

K.C exits the stadium and takes a seat next to Carina, who has a sad look on her face.

Carina: I don't know what I'm doing here. I'm not a cheerleader, and it was stupid of me to think I was.

K.C.: First thing, you're not stupid. Far from it. And second, you're just inside your head. Just have fun, Luciani.

Carina: You're not half bad at giving advice. I guess I have a performance to give.

Carina rises from the bench. K.C watches with a longing glance as she enters back into the building.

Scene 14: Mason's Home (Living Room). Afternoon

Jack and Decker are sitting on the couch watching tv. Emma and Spinner enter, carrying an envelope.

Spinner: Hey, Kiddo.

Jack started to become nervous.

Jack: Hey. What's going on? Is the cancer back?

Spinner (snickering): No. Thankfully not.

Emma hands Jack the envelope. Jack and Decker take a closer look to see that it's coming from Toronto University. Jack begins to open and read the letter. Everyone waits in anticipation.

Jack: We are pleased to inform you that you have been admitted to Toronto University. I got in!

Emma: Congratulations, Jack!

Decker: Hey. I'm happy for you.

Jack and Decker share a kiss as Decker embraces Jack in his arms.

Scene 15: Stadium Gymnasium. Afternoon

Carina seats in the bleachers in deep thought. She hears the door beginning to open as she turns. She notices K.C. walking in carrying his duffle bag.

K.C.: Hey! The buses are starting to load up. Isabella was looking for you.

Carina continues to sit in silence with a smile. She had this look of peace. K.C. moves further into the gym and begins to make his way up the bleachers. He takes a seat next to her.

Carina: I would have never imagined myself as a cheerleader. Besides being very uncoordinated and practically having no rhythm, I actually got out there and performed. When my dad died, I think I lost that girly side of myself. I focused more on studying and helping my mom. Tonight, I was finally able to let go.

K.C.: I don't think you give yourself enough, Luciani. You're not as girly as Isabella or Kenzie, but it's more to you. You're intelligent, compassionate, forgiving. You make everyone around you want to be better.

Carina begins to smile. K.C. gazes into her eyes, and before either could realize what was happening, they slowly start to lean in for a kiss.

K.C.: I'm sorry. I shouldn't have.

Kenzie appears in the corner.

Kenzie: We've been looking for you two. Let's go.

Carina and K.C. continued to act normal as they left the gym.

Scene 16: Parking Lot. Afternoon

Students begin to load the bus. Kenzie pulls K.C. into a seat. He locks eyes with Carina as she begins to make her way to the back of the bus. Isabella gestures her to come next to her. Isabella begins to suspect something happened. She can see it in Carina's body language.
