After school, Mary Anne and I were helping Richard with picking out weeds. He normally don't expect us to do yard work when we have homework, but we save it for after dinner. It still works for us. Carlos wasn't home yet. He has practice after school until nearly dinner time.
By the time we were done, it was almost time for the BSC meeting, so we got ready and left for Claudia's. At the meeting, all the girls had permission to be at the sleepover.
"Oh, good," I said.
"If any of us have to baby-sit, your stepdad should make that rule an exception," said Stacey.
Mary Anne checked and said, "None of us have a sitting job on Friday after school or at night, but we might need Logan or Shannon that night since no one is free."
"Good idea," said Kristy.
"I'll talk to Logan while you talk to Shannon," said Mary Anne.
"Deal," agreed Kristy.
After the meeting, Mary Anne and I did homework in her room. We do it together every now and then. We were just having Chinese. We were still doing it when Mom came home with Chinese. We put it on the side for now. After we had dinner, we cleaned and went back to our homework. We didn't have too much to finish. We were done 10 minutes later.
"I wish we could at least go out for dinner on Friday," I said.
"We could, but you know Dad won't let us," said Mary Anne.
"It would be still light outside after the meeting," I said.
"Maybe," said Mary Anne.
I was just trying to let her have fun, but she's festy to follow her dad's rule. Her mom passed a long time ago and he raised her on his own. He used to have too many rules for her growing up until she proved to him that she's not a little girl any longer. He lightened up before he married my mom. However, the only rule that he has: No boys allowed in the house when he's not home. Mom's the same way.
I still think that no leaving the house rule during a sleepover is dumb since we had always done that before in the past.
"I just thought we'd do pizza for take-out. That's the only thing we can do," said Mary Anne. "And, we are allowed to be outside. Dad and Sharon are not leaving for the club until almost 6:30 pm anyway."
Mary Anne had a text from Logan saying he is free on Friday in case we need him that day. He have practice until 6:00 pm. She replied it was fine with her. She texted Kristy to tell her.
The following day, Mom announced, "Jeff's coming down this weekend."
"How are we going to have a sleepover while watching him?" I asked.
"He'll be fine. You know that he likes seeing Mary Anne. I told him that we got plans that Friday night and didn't mind joining you girls during the sleep over," said Mom.
"Don't worry about us," said Mary Anne. "I like having him, too."
Don't get me wrong, I love my brother, but he likes to spend a lot of time with her. Then, when Mary Anne and I left for school, I came up with a plan: "We can have Jeff cover for us."
"No," said Mary Anne. "We can't leave a 10-year-old alone."
"But Carlos will be here," I said.
"The answer is still no," said Mary Anne.
She won't even give in.
"We still should have fun," I said.
"Dad will kill us if we don't follow his rule," said Mary Anne.
"He won't have to know," I said.
"How? What if he tries calling and can't reach us?" asked Mary Anne.
I sighed. I knew she had a good point.
At school, Kristy said, "Shannon told me she's free that Friday, too, so we're all set."
"Jeff's coming down this weekend and he'll be with us," said Mary Anne.
"Okay, that don't bother us," said Stacey.
"He doesn't give us trouble," said Kristy.
Later, Kristy thought I was crazy to leave my brother to cover for us when I came up with that idea.
"A 10-year-old is much too young to be home alone," said Kristy. "And, you're the one who will be blamed to be irresponsible if something goes wrong with him."
"And, Carlos won't be home for a bit. He has practice after school until 6:00 pm," said Mary Anne. "We can do pizza for take out when he comes home."
"Sounds good," said Kristy.
"We can add subs. I can eat one," said Stacey- she's diabetic.
"Okay," said Claudia.
"We can always do Subway instead," said Mary Anne.
"We can do it that way," said Stacey.
"They do Door Dash since it would be dark by the time Dad and Sharon leave for the club," said Mary Anne.
"That makes sense," said Stacey.
