She stared outside the window. Her little hand pressed against it.
Snow gently fell as other kids played in it.
She wasn't allowed outside, that's what Mommy said.
When she asked why, Mommy hit her.
Mommy is always having her adult shots.
She gets scary at times, and hurts her.
They are out of food, Mommy used all her money for more adult shots.
Mommy says that she is a burden.
That she is weak.
"Compa?!" Mommy called out to her.
Then, everything became black and white.
Everything lost its color, not like there was much.
She went to Mommy.
However, her voice is staticky.
She can't hear what Mommy wants.
Her face is covered in scribbles.
Mommy stood up and everything sunk into darkness.
Compa had woken up from her nap. She rubbed her throbbing head. She reached into her pack and brought out some pills. After popping them, she rubbed her forehead. The constant headache subsided. 'What did I dream about again?' She wondered.
The party had slept on the rooftops of Lastation. Since they had no where to stay. They'll begin some shelter hunting today. She heard IF, Neptune and Netherrealm all get up from their sleeping bags. Yawning, groaning, grumbling and general grogginess. Compa admires the three of them.
They are much stronger than Compa could ever be. She's a burden to them, but they keep her around out of pity. Netherrealm is facing his past demons head on. Neptune is searching for her past. IF is capable of keeping those two in check. Compa, she doesn't bring anything to the table.
She'd be better off dead. It's not like anyone would miss her. Even her Grandpa wouldn't notice her gone. "Hey, Compa!" Netherrealm called out to her. His violet eyes, the color of amethysts shone. His black hair is shaved down. Making him look like a soldier. His face in a scowl constantly, most likely because of her.
"Are you done spacing out on us?" Netherrealm asked with his arms crossed impatiently. "Oh! Yesie Netty! Where are we going?" Compa asked. "We're going to find someplace to stay. Can you search through this area?" IF explained, showing Compa a holographic map.
"Yup! I'll do it to it!" She chirped, Compa will do anything to not be a burden. At least, not as much as she currently is. "We'll meet back here in a few hours. Nep, don't bugger off, this is important," IF said and Neptune mocked IF speaking with her hand.
So they split the party and Compa wandered the area she was told to explore. She bumped into some men. "Hey! Watch it!" One shouted. Compa bowed and apologized profusely. They continued to surround her as one yelled at her.
She merely took it, fighting back won't help. It never helped, just take it like a good girl. Two men on either side grabbed Compa's arms. They whooped and started to feel her up. Yet, Compa was silent and didn't resist. "You like this, don't you, dirty slut?" One man asked.
Far from it, Compa just knew better not to resist. Resistence brings pain, just take everything in stride with a smile. That's what being a nurse is about, right? The chaotic mob halted when a chilling presence made their debut.
The leader of the group had a notched scythe blade at his neck, curved inwards. Behind him, leaning casually is a figure in a black raincoat. With their hood and a mask covering their face. The scythe rests figure's shoulder lazily. "Back off, now," the figure warned firmly.
It's a girl, about thirteen and about Neptune's height. "Or what?" He asked with a sneer. Without saying a word, she spun the scythe around and back onto her shoulder. This time, she faced the gang and Compa. Two members of the gang fell with their throats cut and they drowned in their own blood.
Maroon and purple colored smoke leaked from her gloved hand. She jabbed two fingers into the leader's eyes. He screamed in terror and flailed his arms. However, his skin began to burn from the inside out. Smoke hissed from every orifice from the leader. Then, she swiftly pulled her fingers out of his burnt eye sockets. Dried blood on her fingers.
The leader fell, his face burnt off, dying in agony. The rest of the gang ran off blubbering. The woman flicked her scythe of any blood. Then wiped her fingers on the clean parts of one of the corpses' shirts. "Fatality," She said cruelly.
The scythe disappeared into red hexagons. The figure stood frozen, staring at Compa. Her fists clenching and unclenching. Her muscles twitched, she wanted to charge at Compa. "Are you okay?" Compa asked, the three dead bodies not bothering her in the slightest.
The figure took deep breaths and jumped onto roof.
"Stop villain!" A boisterous girl called out from the other roof top. Wearing an open, leather top with a red scarf, shorts and blue hair tied up. On her head are orange goggles. "You will not escape justice!" the other girl proclaimed. They leapt from rooftop to rooftop, Compa easily lost sight of them.
Compa had continued her walked like nothing had ever happened. She ignored the three bodies left in the wake of that encounter. She's seen bodies before, mostly in training. Yet, something in the back of her head is telling Compa that she has seen a fresh cadaver at one point.
Compa ignored the voice, the past is nothing to her.
On the east side of Lastation, IF walked through the streets. She has yet to find a place for her party to stay. Tired, IF entered a bar and sat on a stool. "Ain't you a little young Missy?" the barkeep asked. "I'm old enough, just give me something," She asked and the bartender slid her a filled glass in a matter of moments.
She sipped the glass and relaxed. She thought about her party members. Compa is naive and, strange for sure. Neptune is optimistic and moves on despite her memory loss. IF gritted her teeth when she thought of Netherrealm. She respects him as a warrior and trusts him in battle. Yet he ticks IF off without effort.
IF doesn't understand why she has this inherent dislike of Netherrealm. One of her nine phones buzzes. So she opens to see a date she wants to forget about. 'Happy Birthday to me,' IF grumbled in her mind. IF deleted the date from her calendar, and decided to sift through it further.
See a special day? Delete it, it's not worth it. Her mind, her imagination has always been her safe space. She creates these stories of heroes and monsters. IF wants to be the characters she created. A badass lone wanderer who you don't want to mess with.
She lost two close friends because of her attitude. IF had to be in control, it was her story. IF once again dismissed those thoughts, that's in the past. The past stays where it belongs, away from her. IF finished her glass and was about to order another one.
However, the door to the bar opened. "Whew! I'm beat!" a voice sighed and IF pulled her hood up. Glancing out of the corner of her eyes. Blue hair and goggles with an open black suit and shorts. A red scarfed wrapped around her neck.
"Nisa," IF muttered, and she dropped some credits on the bar. Then slinked out while Nisa chatted up all the other customers. Apparently some shrouded villain with a scythe had escaped her. IF ignored it and left the bar.
"Iffy! Nisa! You gotta believe me! I didn't do it!"
IF's pace increased as she remembered that day. The day she destroyed a friendship with two amazing people. She used them as stepping stones. It just got her nowhere in the end. IF stuffed those memories away. The past means nothing to her anyway. She has to find a place to stay, that's the priority here.
This is definitely a more heavier chapter. Some dudes died, and I painted Compa's mental state in a ghastly light.
I wanted to have Netherrealm, Neptune, Compa and IF to all have something in common. So I thought of the past and how they deal with it.
Neptune lost her past,
IF denies her past,
Compa broke because of her past,
And Netherrealm faces his past head on.
While not a whole lot of action in this chapter. I wanted to give some focus to IF and Compa, since they are important characters. I'll be doing the same for Neptune.
