Author's note:
Welcome back everyone. This is part one of a possible two or three part chapter.
Tatsumi and his comrades are reunited and are about to meet with SF unit Alpha in Canada. For what?
To kill some Nazis of course.
For the sake of timing and pacing. I will be uploading one chapter every Friday or Saturday. So be prepared for that.
M for language.
April 11, 1963
1300
Newfoundland, Canada
The Unites States Night Hunters or Night Hunters is now assembled. After a few more days of assessment on Tatsumi he is allowed to rejoin his comrades. Arriving at the Canadian province Newfoundland and Labrador shy of midafternoon at an undisclosed airport that is renovated for military activities. Lent by the Canadian government for the US to use its airfields.
Though the calendar is reaching the ides of April, the weather was still very cold in the north.
A C-47 Skytrain lands on the runway of a Canadian Military airfield.
The plane takes a couple of minutes to reach its hanger. The tail end of the door opens. First to step out is Captain Anderson of the Night Hunters. Followed by Akame, Kurome, Wave, Lubbock, Mine, and Tatsumi.
"Welcome to the Canadian province of Newfoundland, Night Hunters." A Canadian soldier greets them and salutes Night Hunters.
"Thanks. Where would we be staying?" Anderson asks as he salutes the soldier back.
"Your quarters are over one kilometer away. Follow me and we'll drive you to your quarters." The Canadian soldier responds. He looked at the group and sees that they're nothing much but misfits. Not so much of a special force unit that he thought of. As he observed the unit he saw the Dragon Knight and almost instantly he nearly felt his knees.
"Don't worry about the kid back there. He's on our side. Now let's get a move on." Captain assured the Canadian soldier.
The Canadian leads them to an M35 cargo truck with a closed canopy. He closes the back of the truck and walks to the front of which is another Canadian soldier in the passenger's seat. He sits in the driver's seat and drives off with Night Hunters in the back.
He drives them over a kilometer to the barracks. As they arrive at the barracks he opens the back and every single one of Night Hunters steps off the truck.
"To the right is the enlisted barracks and across from it is the officer's barracks. In front of us is where the conference rooms are for briefings." The Canadiana soldier instructed them.
Anderson led the Night Hunters into the enlisted barracks to wait out the clock for Special Force unit Alpha to arrive. The barracks weren't much as it only has the standard stretcher beds, cabinets, and not much else. This isn't the sort of luxury hideout that Akame, Lubbock, Mine, and Tatsumi, former members of Night Raid, expected to be staying in. Nor is it better than the rooms Wave and Kurome, former members of the Jagers stayed in the Capital of the Empire. But to Anderson, it was the usual. For now, everyone has to contend with their current situation for the next few hours until SF unit Alpha arrives. They all choose and sat down on their own beds, Tatsumi sat on his own bed, all waiting to kill time. Happy to be reunited with the people that he once knew, Tatsumi wants to move out and explore this base. But feels a great tension from everyone. Every single person he knew, he let down, and may more or less feel their wrath soon enough. Anderson senses this as well and calls it out.
"Alright, our supplies, equipment, and your weapons are expected to come in the next few minutes. Followed by the arrival of SF unit Alpha." He points to two of his subordinates at random.
"Wave, Kurome. Come with me to help bring the supplies. Probably treat y'all to some coffee from the officers' barracks." Captain Anderson orders the two.
"I don't want coffee captain." Kurome told the captain.
"Of course you do. Now come on, the two of you, let's go and no complaining." Captain Anderson ordered both Wave and Kurome. "Yes, sir." Both responded.
Captain Anderson, Wave, and Kurome left the barracks to the devices of Akame, Mine, Lubbock, and Tatsumi. Now Tatsumi is facing off the three people that he knew very well.
"So. What do you guys want to know about…me?" Tatsumi asked nervously.
"I want to know. How far did you get with Esdeath?" Mine asked Tatsumi. Tatsumi stammers a bit at such a direct and clear question.
"Let's just say that it was close but not too close. None of that adult stuff." Tatsumi got a bit red. "But none the less it was a horrifying experience. Day by day, she brings in new "slaves" standing in fear. or what they're called Untermensch. Many spoke in languages that I don't understand but their expression was the same. Fear of death. But many more just laughed at her. Some begging for mercy or forgiveness by her." Tatsumi answered.
"Untermensch?" Asked Mine.
"Untermensch. Under-people or inferior. That is a classification used by the Nazi party for anyone who is under them. They exterminated from the face of the Earth or used them to be slaves. Specifically those are the Jews, Slavs, Roma, Blacks, and the disabled. Even political thought crimes can make one untermensch. Such as communists and anarchists." Tatsumi followed up her question.
"They sound a lot like the Empire." Akame commented.
"They're no worse then the Empire from our world." Tatsumi responded back.
"So, what did you do, while under her conditioning?" Lubbock asked. Expecting an interesting response that wasn't gloomy as the last answer.
"Well, I can't remember much. But there are many memories that I remember that are forever stuck in my mind. Many of which is when I was tortured by her or force to see many people die in my place. Which I guess in the end broke me. But I also remember fighting a lot of Partisans and rebels. Mostly French, Poles, Russians, some Yugoslavs, British, and even Germans. And I guess you can even say that the Russians are like the Northern Tribe. Rebelling against the empire, or in this case. The Third Reich." Tatsumi answered Lubbock's question. Lubbock is now more bummed out at this truthful revelation. This revelation now shows just how worse the Nazis are against the people of this world. But they were confused in his answer as these are nationalities they never heard of until recently.
"I have a question. For you. How did you get into this world in the first place?" Akame asked Tatsumi.
"I don't really know much. All I remember is that after dying, I was pulled up to the heavens and met this guy. He said something in a language I didn't understand at first but starting to understand a bit.? He even did a gesture of a cross in front of me. Then I appeared in this world. Probably near where Esdeath lived, I guess?" Tatsumi answered Akame's question.
"Why, did you all have met this man? Is this how you also ended up here too?" Tatsumi asked this question to Akame, Mine, and Lubbock.
"Well," Just as one of them about to answer, Captain Anderson enters the barracks.
"Look what I have brought you all today." He said as he dragged in a couple of crates of supplies. Kurome entered next with a box carrying the Imperial Arms that both her and Akame were using, and carrying incursio. Wave entered last carrying the rest of the imperial arms, carrying his sword Grand Chariot to his left side, on he also is carrying Roman Artillery, Pumpkin. And Lubbock's Cross tail. They were also followed by soldiers carrying equipment for the mission such as winter gear, weapons, and ammo for their sidearms.
"I hope you guys didn't get too comfortable. Because SF unit Alpha just arrived. Get ready for briefing starts in half an hour." Captain Anderson announced. Everyone groaned at this announcement as they were settling down.
After thirty minutes pass by. The seven Night Hunter members are sitting across the table from the eleven-man unit that is SF unit Alpha in a briefing room. Those eleven are Warrant Officer 1 Wilson, Operations sergeant: Master Sergeant Miller, and intelligence sergeant: Sergeant First Class Johnson. Followed by weapons sergeant: Sergeant First Class Hernandez and Sergeant Moore. Communications sergeants: Staff Sergeant Brown and Sergeant Harris. Medical sergeants: Sergeant First Class Hill and Staff Sergeant Parker. Engineering sergeants: Sergeants' Arthur and Alvarez. Captain Anderson stands in front of the desk in front of everybody. He turns on the projector which shows the map of the secured silo compound.
"Alright everyone now listen up. I, Captain Anderson, have been put in charge of this clandestine mission. I've been put in charge of both Night Hunters and SF unit Alpha. The mission is called Operation Aurora Borealis. Their is only one aim and that is to destroy these silos and infrastructure that the Nazis are building in Narsaq Greenland. Recent intelligence reports states that these silos are also the main communications for the Nazi North Atlantic Fleet. They were also using their own laborers. So we won't need to worry about civilians or POWs getting in the way." Anderson looks at his team, Night Hunters.
"Night Hunters. Our mission is to go in first and clear out any enemies and take out Nazi officers around these two key buildings. Their HQ and Communications building." Anderson takes a marker and circles two buildings.
"We have a couple ways to enter. Through the main gates in the north or south or through the side through the fence. If we're going through the main entrance, it be better through the north. Luckily only about six guards are guarding the two gates at any one time. So taking them out will be fairly easy." He drew two circles circling the entrances. Anderson directed his attention to SF unit Alpha
"Since most of my time will be with the Night Hunters, SF unit Alpha would be led by WO1 Wilson and MSG Miller. SF unit Alpha, you'll be sent in as well to aid the Night Hunters in taking out the Nazis there. But your primary mission is to set charges Primarily their communications building and their HQ. Knocking these out will be destroying the communications the Nazis have with their Northern Fleet. With that out of the way the Kriegsmarine and Nazis on Greenland would be sitting ducks. Of which an invasion of the island would commence the following day. Do you understand?"
"Yes, Sir." Everyone responded. Anderson looks at both of his teams.
"This concludes mission briefing. Any questions?"
A member of SF unit Alpha raised his hand.
"Yes. Sergeant Moore." Called out Captain Anderson.
Sergeant Moore stands up. "Sir. I mean no offense, but. How are we able to rely on these, people. A couple of them I can see helping. One of them is a war criminal and the rest are people who are supposed to be in school." The sergeant shared his concerns. This concern is also shared by the rest of SF unit Alpha.
"I see your concerns, Sergeant. But don't let their appearances fool you. They've already got multiple years of experience in clandestine operations and are talented in their missions. On top of that, they've also got armaments that are powerful and are only completable with them. From personal experience they're a reliable team." Captain Anderson responded. His Night Hunter team felt pride of their work, even if its dirty. Though he didn't know much of their operation history, they did feel pride from him. This feeling was also nostalgic because its the same pride Najenda had for her team back in their old world.
"Are you sure, sir? Because a few of them have swords, the other is a pink midget with an oversized gun that fire God knows what, two of them are practically the same, except one is a war criminal, and the other is practically unarmed that uses dental floss. I don't find your answer reassuring sir." The sergeant responds.
"Did you just called me a midget?" Mine calls as she stood up.
Lubbock jerked up from his chair from that insult. "I'll show you dental floss!" Lubbock comments.
"You want to fight goblin?" SGT. Moore replies to Lubbock.
"Lubbock please sit." Tatsumi tells Lubbock.
"Moore sit down." MSG Miller tells him.
"Everyone calm yourselves, sit down and shut up!" Anderson orders the two parties.
Everyone in USNH took a bit of an offense to his comment. Tatsumi saw his concern. To the sergeant, he saw Tatsumi only as a war criminal that has innocent blood on his hands. He looked at the others. Though both Akame and Kurome are the best assassins, he knew that there won't be much mid to long range combat as everyone pretty much has a gun contrasted to the Empire. Of which mainly equipped their soldiers with melee weapons such as swords and spears. The ones that do have firearms are not as advanced or as reliable as the ones here. Not only in firearms technology but also the world has equipment never dreamed of by the Empire of his old world such as tanks, planes, trains, artillery, etc.
"As I said, I understand your concerns. Hell, I even felt that way too at first when I was first assigned to lead them. But the second you see them in combat. You're going to change your mind." Captain Anderson reassured him.
"Alright, we are to deploy at 2000. By 0130 we'd be over the city of Narsaq. We'd be over at least one kilometer west of the target. From there, you'd be parachuting down, do your mission. Since its near the water, there are PT boats with communications equipment. We leave from these boats and call for rescue once we are about twenty to sixty km or twelve to thirty-seven miles way from Greenland." Captain Anderson officially ends the mission briefing.
Just as everyone gets up a few of SF unit Alpha looks at Night Hunters.
"You'd better do your mission, if not then stay out of our way." SGT Moore tells them.
"Don't worry. We'll cover you and your ego." Mine tells him.
"Moore. Cool it. Save your rage against the Nazis. Not our allies." MSG Miller tells the sergeant as he placed his hand on his shoulder. The sergeant gives a disapproved face and leaves with the rest of his unit.
"I have a feeling, that this may not go as planned. But we should still prepare for it anyway." Tatsumi speaks out.
"Anyways. Get back to your barracks. We're preparing at 1930 sharp. No later. Dress warm and in camouflage. By 2000 we are in the air." Captain Anderson ordered. "Yes, sir." All of them replied.
Endnote:
So what do you all think. Please leave your comments here or any suggestions. They can help me build up the story.
When it comes to SF unit Alpha's structure. I looked it up and found out its structure and learned about its establishment.
Also locations and names are purely coincidental as this is a work of fiction.
See you next week in Kill the World Order.
