Chapter Four

The Divorce

"What?" Petunia shrieked. "Vernon, you can't possibly think about taking my Di-Di and him away!"

"Petunia, I have had enough with those no good freaks!" Vernon growled. "I want them out!"

"No!" yelled Petunia. "I will not have you take away our only daughter!"

"But Mum," Dudley protested, "I want Diana gone!"

Petunia turned to Dudley. "Dudley Joshua Dursley, how dare you say that! We will never ever let your sister go and how dare you think we would! Apologise!"

"Don't make him apologise, Petunia," Vernon snapped. "Any son of mine would say that, and I'm especially proud of my Dudley!"

Diana, Harry and Dudley watched as Petunia and Vernon argued back and forth. Diana couldn't help but notice they didn't say anything about Harry, just about herself and Dudley.

Eventually, Petunia turned to the kids and said, "Me and Vernon are just going to continue this argument in the kitchen. Go back to bed."

Petunia, Vernon and Dudley left the room.

"We'll talk about this in the morning," Diana said, trying to ignore the lump in her throat. "More talk about the letter'll get us in deep trouble. I'm pretty lucky Mum's taking my side."

"Goodnight," Harry said.

Diana left the room and entered her room again, and to her horror, tears started leaking out of the corners of her eyes.

All she'd ever wanted was to protect Harry. And this had cost her Vernon's love. Vernon had always hated any abnormal things, and Diana turning out to be a witch would make their relationship ever more rocky.

Diana hugged her pillow and started shaking with silent sobs. She couldn't deal with it anymore, she needed a distraction.

Diana decided on the perfect distraction. She crept downstairs and put her ear to the kitchen door.

"It's my decision, Petunia, respect it!"

"I am sick and tired of you ordering me around! I will not listen to you!"

"If you won't listen to me then maybe it's best if we renounce our marriage and head our separate ways. Petunia, you can take that freak of a boy and Diana, and I'll take Dudley!"

"Vernon, you cannot take Dudley away from me!"

"He's my son!"

"He's also my son!"

"We'll have a court for him, a trial to see who will gain custody of him!"

Diana heard someone stand up, and she scrambled to her feet and ran back to her room.

Petunia and Vernon were divorcing. She would go to live with her mother and Harry.

A tiny part of Diana felt sad that her father had just tossed her away, ready to give her up, but deep in her heart, she always knew that he didn't love her like Dudley.

The next morning, Diana woke up bright and early. Perhaps it was the fact that the divorce between her parents weighing on her chest that woke her up.

Diana opened the door only to find Harry sitting there, sleeping. She slapped him awake.

"What was that for?" Harry asked sleepily.

"To wake you up," Diana replied. "Listen, I think our lives are about to change forever."

As if on cue, Petunia came up.

"Diana, Harry, can you both com downstairs. Dudley is waiting down there for you."

Harry looked at Diana, confused. All Diana did was shrug. She didn't want to ruin the surprise.

Once Diana and Harry were sitting on chairs in the kitchen, Petunia said, "Me and Vernon are going to divorce. Diana, Harry, you are going to live with me. Dudley, me and Vernon will have a court case to see who gets you."

"What?" Dudley stammered. "You can't put me in a court case."

"Actually, Dudley, they can, and they will," Diana retorted. "You should feel lucky that they both love you and want you."

"Silence," Vernon snarled.

Harry looked at Diana confused, and Diana nodded.

My life is about to change forever.

The next morning, Petunia came into Diana's room.

"You need to pack up," she said. "We're leaving."

"Why are we leaving this early?" Diana asked. "We're not scheduled to move until tomorrow."

"Vernon wants us out," Petunia replied.

Diana yawned and started packing her clothes. She looked around her room and realised this might be the last time she'd ever see it.

But a simple thought came to Diana. Her mother might've been starting to atone for everything in the past.
