Chapter Five

Lily

Diana could not honestly say that she was prepared for her mother to immediately drive her and Harry to some 60s house that looked like it hadn't been touched in 20 years.

"This is where I grew up," Petunia explained. "Now, if we get Dudley then he and Harry will have to share a room."

Harry looked very hesitant about that.

Diana leaned over and whispered, "Do you know what this means, Harry?"

"Yes,

"That we're going to be living in Aunt Petunia's childhood home that she was left after our grandparents died?"

"No, it means we're going to learn about your mother."

Harry's eyes widened. He knew little to nothing about his parents: he didn't even know what they looked like! The only thing Diana ever managed to squeeze out of her mother was that Harry had Lily's eyes, and so did Diana.

"We'll, what are you waiting for?" Petunia asked. "Look around!"

Diana started looking around, thinking that her mother was acting very odd. Perhaps it was the prospect of living in her childhood home.

Petunia had told them in the car that Diana was going to pick a room, and that Harry could take the spare room. Diana was on the hunt for the most decrepit one possible, so Harry didn't have to have it.

Diana looked in the room at the back of the hall upstairs. She could immediately tell it hadn't been used in over a decade.

Was this Mum's room?

But as Diana looked inside the room, she could tell that it was not her mother's. The room just didn't feel like it was Petunia's.

Diana sat down at the desk. There was a photo of a boy with greasy hair and a long hooked nose, and one of a girl with long blond hair and bright blue eyes. There was - strangely - ink and parchment in the room, and - even stranger - an empty birdcage.

Diana opened the desk drawer. There were many letters in there, in fact, it was fit to burst with paper. Diana picked up the freshest letter.

Miss Petunia Evans,

We are incredibly saddened to inform that your sister, Lily Evans Potter, tragically passed on the 31 October 1981.

We are very sorry for your loss, and you have our condolences.

Furthermore, Lily Evans Potter's son, Harry James Potter, is left orphaned, and there is no record of him having a godfather, so we must pass him to you.

If you have any funeral plans, please arrange one by the 3 November 1981.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Greenfoot of the Greenfoot Funeral Directors

Diana reread this letter several times. Lily Evans Potter, she must've been Harry's mother.

Diana suddenly felt rage boil inside her. Petunia must've stuffed this letter in Lily Evans Potter's desk drawer after it was written to her, being the uncaring sister she was.

But as she closely examined the paper, Diana saw tear marks. Perhaps Petunia had cared a little.

Diana looked through the desk drawer all the way down to the bottom. She saw a letter just like Harry's, but addressed to Ms. L Evans, and the date for when Lily needed to sent a response was the 30 January 1971.

Diana looked at the second letter.

Dear Mum, Dad and Tuney,

Hogwarts is amazing! I have two wonderful best friend: Marlene McKinnon and Alice Fortescue. They both come from wizarding families, so they've been a huge help understanding the parts of the wizarding world that Severus never told me about.

Sadly, me and Severus are in different house. I'm in Gryffindor, the "brave" house, and Sev is in Slytherin, the "cunning" house. What's worse is that Gryffindors and Slytherins are rivals!

There's these four boys in my year and house who call themselves the Marauders. Their ringleaders are two boys called James Potter and Sirius Black, and they are the worst! They bully Severus, pay pranks on anyone around them and are really arrogant!

Remus Lupin is nice though. He's really smart and we get along fine. He told me that the Marauders are his first friends and that he doesn't want them to desert him. But I don't think that'll happen. The Marauders treat Remus like a brother.

Tuney, if you're reading this, I'm sorry. Please, come back to me. Be the sister you once were! Please!

Lily

It didn't take a genius to work out that Petunia was 'Tuney' and James Potter was Harry's father. Diana looked at the next letter.

Dear Mum, Dad, Tuney,

Sorry this letter took so long, Ari is such a slow owl!

Anyway, Hogwarts is good. I'm top of the class for Charms, and we learnt this game called Quidditch. That was scary.

Not much has happened since my last letter. There's not much to tell.

Lily

Diana looked at the letter again. She realised this was actual proof that magic was real, Harry's mother and father were magic. These letters were priceless gems.

Dear Mum, Dad and Tuney,

The Quidditch season is on! I hope you remember Severus's explanation, because these next few letters will be filled with Quidditch games.

Marlene showed me a newspaper cutting about a Dark Lord named Lord Voldemort. Apparently this Voldemort is rising to power. He's trying to take over! Alice says he's out to get Muggle-Borns. That disturbed me, but I'm sure Dumbledore will stop him.

I miss you all so much, and I wish you could be here.

Lily

Diana suddenly had a shrewd suspicion that this Lord Voldemort would be in a few more letters.

Dear Mum, Dad and Tuney,

Voldemort has killed someone! It said so on The Daily Prophet. Apparently the person was Muggle-Born. I'm sure Dumbledore will put a stop to all of this.

Ravenclaw beat Slytherin, but it was narrowly. Severus is quite disappointed.

Lily

"Diana! Come down for dinner!"

Diana jumped and put down the letters. She was sure Petunia would notapprove.

Diana had figured out one thing today. Lily Evans Potter most certainly did not die in a car crash, andDiana would figure out how she really died.
