I don't own Harry Potter

It was just before lunch that someone knocked at the door. We didn't usually get visitors unannounced.

"Well, get the door, girl." Vernon demanded.

I went to the door and opened it up. There was a woman at the door. She looked to be mid 40's, though she was dressed oddly.

She was wearing robes that made her look like those eccentric wizards in Dudley's shows.

"Hello, are you Rose Potter?" She asked.

I sent a nervous glance towards the kitchen but it seemed like my aunt and uncle hadn't heard anything.

"Yes, I am. I'm sorry, but who are you?" I asked politely.

"My name is Professor Alcentrix. I teach at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I'm here with your acceptance letter." She said.

I looked at her for a moment in silence. There was a tug in the edge of my mind. Dreams that I had long forgotten and memories that had been buried in my mind. Flashes of different colored lights and bubbles floating. A man and woman holding sticks and things floating through the air.

I opened the door hesitantly. "Come on in."

Professor Alcentrix stepped gracefully in the house. I shut the door behind her and led her into the living room.

"Who is it, girl?" Vernon called.

"It's a teacher, Uncle Vernon. She's here to talk to me about a school that I've been accepted to." I told him.

There were some thumping steps and Vernon made his way into the living room. When he saw the teacher, his face went white, then red. "Tuni." He called. "Dudley, boy, go to your rooms. Now."

Petunia showed up in the room and her face went white too.

It only took a few moments before the boys were upstairs and Vernon and Petunia were sitting on the couch across from the teacher. She was sitting in a chair while I stood off to the side.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Mr. and Mrs. Dursley. I'm Professor Alcentrix. I'm here to let you know that Miss Potter has been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry." She said with a measured tone.

There was a tense silence before Aunt Petunia broke it. "Girl, go get us some tea." She said.

"Yes, Aunt Petunia." I said, despite wanting to stay and listen in.

I quickly made my way to the kitchen and flicked on the kettle, getting out three cups, filling one of them with coffee for Uncle Vernon.

The tea was ready a few minutes later and I poured some out. I also grabbed a few biscuits that Harry and I had made earlier that morning and put them on a plate.

I went back into the room. The tense silence was still there, but it was worse. Something must have happened because Vernon's scowl was even deeper than before and Aunt Petunia looked like she had sucked a lemon. Professor Alcentrix had a determined look in her eyes.

"Tea?" I asked quietly. I handed Uncle Vernon his cup of coffee and poured a cup for Aunt Petunia.

"I'd love a cup." The Professor said.

I poured her a cup and handed it to her. I offered her a plate of biscuits and she took one. "Sit down, Miss Potter, and we can discuss your schooling." She said.

I sat in the only empty seat and faced her, trying to ignore the fact that Uncle Vernon's face was slowly getting more red.

"As you know, I teach at a school called Hogwarts. We teach students who have magic. We teach these children to control and use their gifts." Alcentrix explained. "You are a witch. Your parents both had magic. We call them Witches and Wizards. You've had your name down for this school from the moment your parents knew you had magic. I'm here to give you your letter of acceptance and help you adjust to the Wizarding World." She held out a thick envelope.

I spared a glance at Aunt Petunia who's eyes had narrowed. Then I took the letter. I opened it and pulled out the sheet of paper.

I quickly read through it and pulled out a list of supplies.

"She won't be going!" Uncle Vernon finally exploded. "We will not pay for her to go and learn magic tricks! We promised we'd beat this… this unnaturalness out of her when we took her in."

I sat, stunned. They knew. That must be why they hated me all this time.

"Her tuition is already paid for. You wouldn't need to pay at all." Alcentrix reasoned. I could see anger sparking in her eyes, but she didn't change her tone of voice.

I knew I had to do something. I wanted to go and learn. "Did you say this was a boarding school? As in I'd spend most of the year there?" I asked.

Uncle Vernon went silent and I knew that had caught his interest.

"Yes. It's from the beginning of September to mid June. You are able to stay the entire time. You'd have to come back for summer, but otherwise you'll be there most of the year." Alcentrix said.

"And you say we won't have to pay a cent?" Vernon asked slowly, as if it was all clicking in his head.

"Yes, sir." She said, anger simmering in her eyes. "It is all paid for."

Uncle Vernon nodded. "Alright, girl. You can go. But no of that freakishness when you are here. And that boy can know nothing about this."

"Yes, sir." I quickly agreed.

"Go get your stuff. You'll be staying in that freakish world of yours. They can deal with you until next summer." Uncle Vernon said. Then he put his coffee down and lumbered into the kitchen, ending the conversation.

Aunt Petunia sneered at me. "Just like your witch of a mother." Then she walked out too.

I took a deep breath, relieved that it had worked. I turned to see Alcentrix looking at me. "Give me a moment, I'll grab my stuff really quickly." I told her.

"Hurry up, I'll be right here as soon as you're ready." She said, taking another sip of tea.

I raced upstairs. Harry was waiting in our room, sitting in the bottom bunk. When I came in, he looked up.

"I got accepted into a boarding school that's really good and I'm allowed to go!" I nearly cheered. I raced to pull a trunk out of the closet.

Harry's face lit up. "Really? Where?"

"It's in Scotland." I told him. Realization slowly sinking in. "We can write though. I'm allowed to have letters. Besides, next year you might be going too!" I tried to say happily. I started pulling clothes out of the closet and dresser.

Harry's face fell. "Oh. When are you leaving?"

"Now." I said softly.

"So you'll miss my birthday?" He asked sadly.

I froze, a pair of pants in my hands. I folded it to give me a moment. "Yeah. I won't be here. But I'll send you a big gift. And send you a letter. And next time I see you, we'll have a party."

Harry nodded sadly.

I sighed and finished packing, grabbing the few books I owned and shoving them in the remaining space.

"Harry, I'm sorry I have to leave, but this is a big opportunity. Our parents went to this school, and now I have the chance. I'll be able to be around people that are like me, and maybe I'll make some friends." I said, trying to be hopeful.

"Alright. Good luck. Write to me please." Harry said, looking down at his feet.

I walked up to him and pulled him into a hug. He melted into it and buried his face into my shoulder. "I love you Jamie." I murmured into his hair.

"Love you too Dorea." He said. He pulled away and I took a step back, grabbing the handle of my trunk. I took one last look at him before leaving the room.

Alcentrix was waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs. She took my trunk from me and lifted it like there was no weight to it.

"I need to grab one more thing." I told her. She nodded, slightly impatiently, and I made my way to the cupboard under the stairs. I opened it and pushed the cot up. I pried up a loose floorboard and pulled out a box. I opened it and gazed at the things inside. There were two blankets, a necklace, and a stick. I ran a hand over the stick. I had it when I came here. Memories flashed beneath my eyelids of floating bubbles and colored light again. I closed the box and took it with me.

"Alright, I'm ready." I told Professor Alcentrix.

She offered her arm and I took it. We walked outside and down a block.

Once we were out of sight of the houses, Professor Alcentrix turned to me. "I want you to hold on tight to me. This is going to feel weird at first."

I held onto her arm and she twisted. There was a feeling like being squeezed into a space too small for me, and then it ended. We were standing in a crowded street. We got a few looks but I seemed like no one really noticed. Professor Alcentrix's outfit drew more attention than the fact that we spontaneously appeared.

"What was that?" I gasped out, catching my breath.

"That was Apparition. It's what muggles call teleportation." She explained, leading me to the side so I could adjust.

"What's a muggle?" I asked.

"Right, I forgot you are new at this." She said, annoyed, "muggles are non magical folk." I nodded and straightened up. "Come on, let's go book you a room to stay in."

We walked down the street to a pub looking place. A sign above it said Leaky Cauldron.

"Come on, Tom should be able to book you a room." Alcentrix said as I paused.

We walked in and made our way to the counter. "Hello, what can I do for you today?" The man behind the counter asked.

"Good afternoon, Tom. I was wondering if we could book a room here for a young student?" Professor said with a charming smile.

"Ah, Julica! Of course I can book you a room. Any special needs? And how long will you need it?" Tom said, smiling at me.

I shook my head, opting to remain silent.

Professor Alcentrix answered for me. "No special needs, and until the school year starts."

He nodded and reached below the counter. He pulled out a key and handed it to me. "Third floor, room 321. It'll be ten galleons in all."

I panicked. I didn't have much money and I had no idea what a galleon was. But Alcentrix just pulled out a pouch of money and handed him ten gold coins.

We went up to my room next. It was just a plain room with a bed and a bathroom. The window overlooked a street behind the pub.

Alcentrix put my trunk down at the foot of the bed and waited in the doorway. "Come on, we can get your shopping done if we leave now." She said.

I nodded, excited to see this new world.

"We'll go to Gringotts first and get your money. Then we can get you a new trunk and clothes. After that we can get something to eat then your books and other supplies."

I nodded along. I didn't know what Gringotts was or where I was going to get half my supplies, but I was ready.

Thanks for reading. I'll update again when I can. I hope you're enjoying this.
