Author's Note
So I know many of you will probably recognise what happens in this chapter. Thing is, it's not exactly like the Shippuden episode.
There's no Team Gai for starters. There will also be a small number of changes other than that.
Nothing major, it's just that I can't remember the exact details so I'll have to improvise. Sorry as well that this chapter will be shorter than usual, but anyway, enjoy guys.
The ship has been damaged, so tentatively, the crew starts to disembark. Sensei has us do the same, but for different reasons.
According to her, the map that she was shown of the region, had no such island marked on it. Thus, we need to scout this place out.
I'd informed her of what I sensed, but she was determined. So, with our supplies and after consulting the captain, we set off.
He told her that it would take about a week for the crew to replace the damaged parts of the ship.
Not far from the beach, a dense forest stretched ahead of us. We slowly made our way through it. After about an hour of walking, sensei decided that we'd cover more ground if we split up.
Sai immediately created a bird and hopped on it. I leapt up into the trees and started running. Sensei and Yakumo went to the right and left of me.
It's not long after we split up, that I get to meet one of this island's inhabitants. I dodge out of the way and onto the ground.
A moment later, a massive purple spider lands where I just leapt from. I go through a couple of handsigns. It leaps towards me again, but it's efforts are wasted.
Water Style Severing Wave. A concentrated beam of water bisects the spider and cuts down half a dozen trees behind it.
I wince slightly, as the cacophony of falling trees fills the air. Well, now I've basically pointed a glowing arrow in my direction.
I waste no further time though and set off. It's as I suspected however. Three hours later, I've been accosted by no less than a dozen large creatures.
Most of them were other spiders, but not all. There were a few giant lizards and centipedes as well. I used the Sword of the Thunder God to deal with the rest though. No point in tiring myself out unnecessarily.
Each of us were given flares so that we could signal the others if we're in trouble. So far though, I haven't seen any humans on the island.
I can sense them though. There are a number of them by the volcano in the centre of the island.
I can feel my teammates slowly but steadily moving in that direction. I stop once, to take a quick lunch and to rest for a moment, then I set off again.
Yakumo finds me not long after that and we stick together. We're in a clearing. Suddenly, I look up. Sai is hovering above us, but that isn't what I'm focused on.
A giant bird shoots out of the sky and destroys Sai's ink bird. As Sai plummets towards the ground, he's caught by the bird.
It's too far away to attempt any jutsu, nor would I be able to risk it. Not while it has my teammate in its talons.
Yakumo and I race up to the canopy of the forest and once we reach the top, we can see the bird in the distance, flying towards the volcano.
We share a grimace and then head in that direction ourselves. We can't waste time staying stationary and waiting for sensei to find us.
Our final creature impeding us, a centipede, is dealt with by Yakumo using a genjutsu. Thereafter, the animals leave us alone.
Nearing dusk, we reach the base of the volcano. When we get there, both of us snort in unison. Sai is running down the mountain and the bird is trying to stop him by repeatedly diving at him.
We don't gawk for more than a few seconds though, till we race towards him. I'm wracking my brain to find a jutsu that won't cause too much collateral damage.
It's Yakumo that stops the bird however. I know, because I can feel her chakra latch onto it. The bird hovers in the air for a few moments, confused, then it flies back to its nest.
We meet Sai halfway. One of his arms has a number of cuts on it and there's a gash on his cheek. I signal to Yakumo to keep watch and then I start healing Sai.
Yakumo sends up our flair while I'm busy with Sai. It takes slightly longer than I thought, to heal him. The damage done to his arm is worse than it appears at first glance.
As I'm busy with his cheek, I feel sensei's chakra approaching us. I inform the other two who acknowledge the update.
Ten minutes later, she arrives and then we debrief her as to what we have seen. It seems that all of us have run into and fought against these creatures.
Naturally, sensei has been having the time of her life. This place is basically a giant version of the Forest of Death, her favourite playground.
We decide against investigating further however. The four of us go back down and into the cover of the trees.
Once there, we start a small fire and sensei makes a stew of the two rabbits that she caught. All of us are caught up in our own heads for the rest of the day.
When it starts to get dark, we decide amongst ourselves the order of night watch. I volunteer to go first.
As the others settle down to sleep, I look in the direction of the volcano. There's something else there. Some disturbing chakra. I frown. My own rest later on is fitful and I sleep poorly.
The next morning, after a quick breakfast, we set off again. Time to deal with whatever's going on here. I snort internally.
Missions seem to go off the mark very often it seems. We were supposed to retrieve cargo, but look at what we're involved in now.
Judging from past experience, I wouldn't be surprised if something or someone attempts to kill us today.
This time we avoid going near the nest of that bird. It might have a mate after all. No, we approach from a different side.
I inform the others that I can feel people nearby, inside the volcano. Sensei tells us to be on our guard. It might be a military base of some kind.
I doubt that though. Only one of the people have a substantial amount of chakra there. Still, no point in tempting fate.
After about half an hour of carefully running up the side of the volcano, we stop. Up ahead, we can see doors in the side of the mountain. Doors that are partially open.
Sensei makes a signal and then Yakumo goes through handsigns. A moment later, I feel her chakra faintly blanketing us. Genjutsu then.
I'm motioned to take point, being the sensor and all. We slowly enter the base. Inside, the walls are smooth and the floor has been tiled.
We can hear voices up ahead so we head in that direction. My eyes widen slightly when we turn a corner, for a number of reasons.
There's a huge cavernous space ahead. In the centre, a reddish glow is visible. We must be in the heart of the mountain. Inside, there are thirteen figures. A dozen of them are wearing white coats.
One isn't. A girl. Maybe my age, maybe a year or so older. A girl with red hair, who's chakra lights up my senses.
I'll process the implications momentarily. What holds my attention however, is what's behind them. A massive glass tank, with a creature straight out of someone's nightmare.
I want to gag at the feel of its chakra. It feels wrong and unnatural. Fortunately, it appears to be asleep. Unfortunately, the girl spins around and looks directly at us.
I curse internally. She must have some sort of sensing ability. Before any of us can react, she shouts there are intruders and she flares her chakra.
The genjutsu breaks and after a moment's shock, pandemonium ensues. As we move towards them, a large door opens on the side and giant spiders come pouring inside.
My team immediately engage the spiders. As I'm fighting, I keep my senses on the red haired girl. To my surprise though, she doesn't make any moves to attack us.
A few of the scientists run up the stairs that's to the side of the chamber and enter a room that overlooks this place.
Not long after we've dealt with the spiders, we find out what those that ran away decided to do.
The tank that the creature is in, lights up and not long after that, it opens its malice filled eyes. I hear sensei curse.
Its chakra flares and then it shatters the glass. I'm not idle however. I toss a brace of shuriken and go through handsigns. Shadow Shuriken Jutsu.
My shuriken multiply and become hundreds. To no effect however. It just absorbs it. It's chakra attempts to blanket us. An attempt at genjutsu. I can feel Yakumo ' grabbing ' it's chakra with hers and they have a sort of tug of war.
Sensei jumps infront of us and spits a large fireball at it. It replies with a bolt of lightning that snuffs out her fire and nearly hits her as she dodges.
It moves out of its tank onto the ground. I go through handsigns again. Earth Style Dark Swamp. I keep careful control of the jutsu however. The creature and everything within ten feet of it starts to sink.
Out of the corner of my eye, I can see Sai subduing the scientists in the chamber. Unfortunately, to my surprise, the creature isn't sucked into my jutsu. It fights the effects till it pulls itself out.
I shield my eyes slightly, because sensei just hit it directly with a more powerful fire jutsu. It screams. When the jutsu dies down however, we can see it's not that badly damaged. As a matter of fact, it's slowly starting to heal. I grimace. That's when the girl speaks.
" You won't be able to kill it with jutsu. The scientists have given it an impressive healing ability, beyond anything else. We must try and get it into the lava. "
I trade glances with sensei. Yakumo is sweating slightly. This thing has large reserves. I leap up into the air and bring my heel down five feet away from the monster.
A large shockwave reverberates around the chamber. The floor is pulverized for twenty feet in every direction. The thing is swaying. Then something happens that makes me gasp.
Golden chains of chakra erupt from the girl's back and grabs onto the monster and pulls it down. The place shakes again. Sensei uses some kind of earth jutsu that pushes the floor along with the monster in the direction of the heart of the volcano, where the magma lies.
I can see the thing still struggling though. I go through handsigns again and take a deep breath. Fire Style Dragon Flame Bomb.
A large stream of fire hits the creature and it screams again. The pain distracts it from its struggles. When my jutsu ends, I run forwards towards it and leap up again.
When I come down, the shockwave destroys the ledge that it's trying to hold onto and with a final cry, it falls back.
We all race towards where it fell. Looking down, I can see it slowly sinking into the lava. I let out a breath. After a few moments, it's chakra fades entirely.
