Hello everyone and sorry for taking so long to upload chapter 6. I have to say, after my midterms, I began an intense period of procrastination but decided to break out of it in one swoop. This was all written today, and I'm pretty happy with how this new chapter came out. I am accepting beta readers still and also if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or snide remarks, be sure to review! For the future, I'm debating on whether I want to stick with the main plot of Ruby, or if Weisskashi will completely change the outcome. Anyways, obligatory rated M, and I hope you enjoy it!
Weiss awoke at 12 after hearing Blake fall asleep. She knew that she should be sleeping, but she didn't want to entertain the idea of her demons coming for her tonight. Slipping onto the floor of the room, her steps were completely silent as she made her way to the door and slipped outside, eyepatch firmly in place. Deciding that now would be a good time, she took out her scroll and began walking.

Letting out a sigh, she put down the scroll and looked up to find herself on the rooftop. The cold air reminded her that she was in a light nightgown and the seasons were changing. Looking out over the city she questioned why she was here again. Why wasn't she in the pure land with her precious people? Why was she still not allowed to see Rin and Obito? Maybe she should get some sleep. For perhaps the first time she had come to this strange new world, a solemn acceptance that it was possible she would never see her friends and family again occurred to her. Never again would he hear Naruto shouting about being Hokage or clink glasses with Sasuke after a long mission. Never again would he be able to wave off Tsunade scolding him for being late in an endearing voice, never again would he have races with Guy or smoke with Asuma. A cloud covered the shattered moon above him that was so unlike his own and he looked down from the balcony at the group below. It would be so easy, another foot forwards and the wind would be blowing through her hair, a second or two of adrenaline before sweet nothingness. He had absolute control of his aura, something he was rather proud of, and he could forcefully override the shield surrounding him. A choked laugh escaped his mouth, hopefully, in the next life, he could be a man again, having to constantly remind himself or herself that she was a woman was tiring. A beep alerted her to a new message and she opened it up to see it was from Junior. Shaking her head, she took a step back. A thousand times had these thoughts crossed her mind even in a world of kunais and jutsu, but she had a purpose here. This shattered world called Remnant had major problems and she wouldn't allow herself to rest until it was over, it was her shinobi way, to endure and grit her teeth until she could save everyone, even if it meant slowly discarding her own life.
She clicked it open and gave it a scan before wiring over the money to Junior's account. Making friends with the underbelly of Remnant was proving to be the correct choice as Roman and Junior's information network covered practically all of Vale and then some. Her father had never allowed her to have her own account as a way of forcing reliance on him, but Winter had helped her create her own checking and savings account on the side. The money she was earning was from tutoring, all those weeks spent in the library plus the fact that she was a prodigy meant she was confident enough to tutor and sometimes earn College Degrees. At this point, she had helped 3 students earn their bachelors in Aura Theory, History, and Engineering, and she had earned 2 degrees in History, and Coding. She didn't have the degree in her hand, but when a rich kid wanted to party their college away, she was paid extremely handsomely in return to do their papers. For her, it meant sleepless nights of reading and writing, but she was fine with that.
Looking down at her scroll, it read 12:45. With sleep still eluding her, she quietly returned to the dorm and slipped inside. Grabbing her laptop, she opened it and began to type, the holographic keyboard not making a sound as she began writing a paper detailing the flaws of Mountain Glenn.
As the sun began to rise and the article in front of her was beginning to blur, she turned as Blake began to awaken, letting out what sounded like a mixture between a purr and a yawn. Looking at the time, it was getting close to 7:00 and the sun was just beginning to stream through the blinds. Satisfied with her progress, Weiss saved the document and closed her laptop as Blake began to stir.
-X-
Blake's ears twitched as her sensitive hearing picked up the small click nearby. Her eyes snapped open as her body reacted to the somewhat familiar sound of a gun's safety clicking. Wide eyes burst as she didn't recognize any of the smells or sounds around her. It took a second for her eyes to adjust and her heart rate to slow down when she remembered that life was behind her and she was in Beacon, safe and away from anyone who might be hunting her. She looked around to see Weiss' bed empty and the sound of water running. A laptop with the Shnee logo sat on one of the deks in the room and she could guess Weiss had just gone to the restroom. Sitting up fully, she grabbed her black ribbon and put it on, ensuring that it was secured and covering her ears, she slid off the bed and stretched before grabbing her toiletries.
Here she met her dilemma, in front of her was a closed-door that led into the bathroom. The sound of running water had turned off, but she could hear Weiss inside brushing her teeth. Was she ok with going in? Did they know each other well enough, did she even want to be in the same room as someone whose family had killed and tortured so many of her people? Would it be awkward? As she stood there chewing her lips, Weiss opened the door, almost slamming into her.
"Oh whoops, sorry Blake, didn't see you there," Weiss said with a smile though it was hard to tell since both the mask and eye patch were in place.
"Sorry, did you need to use the restroom?"
Blake gave a small nod before walking in with her head bowed. Even though she stood a little taller than the White Heiress, she shuffled into the bathroom embarrassed as Weiss turned her body to allow her in with a raised eyebrow.
Closing the door behind her, she noticed that Weiss had cleaned up a White toothbrush in a small cup and she noted that for some reason, her group members all preferred different kinds of toothpaste. Ruby strangely had an apple-flavored one while Yang was bubblegum-flavored. Weiss used mint which she herself couldn't stand the taste of. Curiously, she grabbed her own toothbrush and began brushing her mouth after applying the cinnamon toothpaste. What can she say, she enjoyed sweets and this was one of the few times she was allowed to indulge in them. Finishing up, she walked out to see Weiss had changed into her Beacon Uniform and Yang was just beginning to stir from her awkward sleep position. Ruby was curled up still, but a small grin was plastered on her face.
-X-
After everyone had awoken and finished preparing for the day, Ruby stood on top of her bed as the rest of the team stood around her. "Gooooood morning team RWBY!" She exclaimed before a shrill noise filled the room from a whistle that hung around her neck.
Rubbing her ear Weiss looked up at her. "You know you were the last one to wake up right?"
"Now that we're all awake, we can officially begin our first order of business," Ruby said in her best commanding tone.
Yang lifted up an armful of bits and bobs. "DECORATING!"
Blake chimed in, grabbing her own suitcase. "We still have to unpack." With a click, the suitcase opened, depositing all of her belongings onto the floor. Blake stared at it for a second before looking back at the group. "And clean."
Weiss gave a disapproving look to all of them. "I've alrea-"
Ruby blew her whistle again and stood up with a smug smile. "Alright! Weiss, Blake, Yang, and their fearless leader Ruby have begun their first mission. Banzai!"
"Banzai!" Yang and Blake chorused in. The three of them raised their fists and posed as Weiss looked at them from the floor.
"Banzai." Weiss raised her fist tiredly.
What followed was a whirlwind as Yang, Blake, and Ruby began decorating. Weiss had already laid out everything she owned last night before going to bed and she watched in horror and amazement as nearly every surface of the walls and parts of the ceiling were covered in posters, books from blake lined all of the shelves, and what had seemed like a small painting at the time dominated one of the walls. The four of them looked at the now very personalized room and more specifically at the 4 beds that had been stuffed in the middle. There was not nearly enough space for the 4 beds as Blake and Weiss' books were splayed about in mountains and clumps. "
Weiss decided to take the initiative as the other three looked like they were about to say something stupid. "This isn't gonna work."
Blake reluctantly agreed. "It is a bit cramped."
Yang, surprisingly, was the voice of reason. "Maybe we should ditch some of our stuff?"
Weiss watched as the metaphorical gears in their team leader's head began to turn. "Or… we could ditch the beds?" Ruby asked before a light bulb seemed to appear above her head. "And… replace them with bunk beds!" She exclaimed. Thinking logically, that was their best compromise if they wanted to keep everything. The others began nodding and Weiss looked down to note the time. The class would begin in 30 minutes and the others didn't seem to notice. Oh well.
She decided to at least pretend to be responsible. "Um, that sounds incredibly dangerous."
"And Super Awesome!" Yang chimed in.
Blake looked around before voicing her opinion." It does seem efficient."
Looking around again she let out a defeated sigh. "I guess you're right. Ruby, give us the word."
"Alright team RWBY, let's make some bunk beds!"
25 minutes later, they looked at their handy work, the 4 beds were now bunk beds with one being hung on ropes and the other with old books holding it aloft. Weiss had placed a blanket on top of the bed being held up by ropes, to signal it was hers, but also to keep the others from seeing inside.
"Objective complete!" Ruby said with her hands on her hips. "Alright, our second order of business is!... Classes… Now we have a few classes together today. Let's see… At 9:00 we've gotta be-"
Weiss raised her hand. "Excuse me, Ruby? Did you say 9 o'clock?"
Ruby looked up nervously. "Umm-"
"It is currently 8:55," Weiss said in a very calm voice with one foot already out of the door.
Behind her, she heard Ruby yell in a panicked voice. "Uhh, t-t-to class!"
-X-
Team RWBY and JNPR burst through the doorway as the bell rang. Looking around, they saw Weiss seated in the front row, an oddly serious look on her face. The two teams took seats around her as their professor, a well-dressed portly gray-haired man with a bushy mustache walked in and placed a mix between an ax and blunderbuss on a pedestal.
"Ahem, my name is Professor Port, welcome to Grim Studies 101. I am Professor Port… Oh, I just said that hahaha! Sorry, my young students, my mind has been filled with the memories of when I was younger taking down Grimm left right, and center, oh it was a different era back then, every corner was a Grimm, but even though all studies say they have no souls, I could see the look of fear in their eyes. Why once-..." The hefty professor began a tangent that lasted around 10 minutes before concluding.
At which point, most of the class was beginning to nod off. Weiss's patience was being tested, she had been quite excited to learn more about Grimm after all the "new" articles she had found began repeating the same thing over and over again. To have a teacher who was teaching the class meant that there must be something a normal person couldn't find online like where they came from or why they evaporate after death. Do Grimm procreate, is there a set number of Grimm, could humanity actually rid the world of them? Sitting there listening though, she tried to grasp any meaning behind the stories the professor was telling, look underneath the underneath, but nothing of note came up and she was slowly beginning to regret not showing up late.
"Ahem anyways. Let's talk about Grimm. Monsters! Demons… Prowlers of the night. Yes, the creatures of Grimm have many names. But I merely refer to them as prey. Hu-Hah! Haha!" With a show of what could only be assumed to be toughness, the old professor flexed, waking Ruby from her nap.
When no one responded he coughed into his hand. "Uhh, and you shall too, upon graduating from this prestigious academy. Now as I was saying, Vale, as well as the other three kingdoms, are safe havens in an otherwise treacherous world." The professor began walking around the room with his hands behind his back.
Weiss mentally began to facepalm, as much as a joke this class seemed to be, Ruby was showing the professor absolutely no respect. Though it didn't seem to faze him, it grated Weiss' nerves as she watched her doodling.
"Our planet is absolutely teeming with creatures that would love nothing more than to tear you to pieces. And that's where we come in. Huntsman! Huntresses…" He stopped to look at Yang. "Individuals who have sworn to protect those who cannot protect themselves. From what you ask? Why...The very World!" He said while raising his fist high in the air. Again the class silently looked at him in different states of boredom and confusion. A student in the back who was sleeping suddenly stood up and raised his fist. "Eyyy-yeah!" Seeing everyone looking at him, he sat back down before going back to sleep.
The professor continued, standing in front of the whiteboard with a Grimm drawn on it. "That is what you are training to become. But first,a story."
As the professor began to tell another tale of his youth, Weiss turned to look over at Ruby who was now in the process of… drawing circles on her paper? Turning back she heard the professor saying something about cabbages. Again she tuned out the professor to see Ruby giggling before holding up her piece of paper. On it, she had written out.
Ruby Rose
Professor Port
Grim studies
Day 1:
Notes:
And next to the notes was a badly drawn picture of the professor with stink marks coming off of him with the caption PROFESSOR POOP. She glared at her, even if the professor was doing a bad job of teaching anything meaningful, at least she could act like she was interested. Hearing giggling, she turned around to see Yang holding back chuckles. With a scoff, she turned back towards the professor, staring intently as she tried to force him to give her anything useful with her eyes.
The professor stopped to look at them. "Ahem, in the end, the Beowolf was no match for my sheer tenacity."
Behind her, Weiss heard someone say, "Or your weight," followed by giggles. Gritting her teeth she ignored them, turning back to the professor.
"And I returned to my village with the beast in captivity and my head held high. Celebrated as a hero." With that, the professor bowed for the class.
Standing back up, he continued. "The moral of this story? A true huntsman must be honorable. A true huntsman must be dependable. A true huntsman must be strategic… well-educated… and wise. So, who among you believes themselves to be the embodiment of these traits?"
Ruby was seriously beginning to grate on Weiss' nerves, blatantly ignoring the professor as well as distracting the class was annoying. Still, she stayed put as the professor looked around before Pyrrha raised her hand. "I do sir!"
"Well then, let's find out." With that, a large shaking cage was brought into the classroom, the professor waved her down and after a few minutes of getting into her preferred battle attire, she stood in front of the cage.
"Step forward, and face your opponent."
Team JNPR and team RWBY watched as Pyrrha stood in front of the rattling cage. The two teams cheered her on as Weiss watched closely. Who knows if she would ever have to face the champion of Mistral, and here was a prime opportunity to see her in action. She made a mental note to talk with Ruby about how she should be acting as a team leader after this class, but it could wait.
For now, she watched as the professor retrieved his weapon, and with one slice, brought it down on the lock of the cage, releasing the Boarbatusk which flew out of the cage and at Pyrrha. She immediately squatted, lowering her center of gravity as the shield flew up in front of her. A loud screeching was heard as the Boarbatusk slammed into the shield before being redirected away. The two-faced each other and began judging the other's strengths. The Grimm roared and charged at the gold and red champion who kept her composure. Lowering her shield again, she charged at the Grimm, her spear morphed into a sniper rifle and fired shots as she approached, each bullet eating up the kinetic energy of the charge before shifting back into spear form as she formed a one-person phalanx. The Boarbatusk had slowed down dramatically and in the last couple yards, Pyrrha burst forth in a moment of speed, her razor-sharp spearhead becoming all the more deadly with the added momentum and practically impaled the Boarbatusk through the head on it. A few more twitches passed before its body realized the head was destroyed and stopped twitching, slowly going limp on the weapon as its body began to evaporate.
The class broke out in applause as Pyrrha bowed and Jaune especially clapped for her. With a smile and red tint on her cheeks, she stood in front of the teacher. "Bravo Braa-vo! It appears we are indeed in the presence of a true huntress in training. I'm afraid that's all the time we have for today. Be sure to cover the assigned readings, and stay vigilant. Class dismissed." With that, the bell rang and team JNPR left to congratulate their teammate. As the team exited the classroom, Weiss grabbed Ruby's shoulder.
"Excuse me Ruby, but could you come with me for a private chat?" She pulled her to a branching hallway.
"Umm, sure Weiss. What's this about?" She waved off Blake and Yang as the two left, leaving the two alone in the hallway.
"It's about your lack of leadership skills," Weiss said. "Wait, don't cut me off until I'm finished. Ok?" She asked/ demanded the young huntress.
Ruby nodded, nervous about this new side of Weiss she was seeing.
"As you are currently, you will fail as a leader. Any team led by you will be turned into Grimm food as soon as they go on a mission. You do not have the qualities to lead and you are far too naive. That being said, I believe you have the potential to become a great leader, you are optimistic and that flows down to your teammates. However, too much optimism leads to overconfidence, which leads to unpreparedness, which leads to death. I can say with confidence that Ozpin made the correct decision appointing you as the leader of team RWBY, but it is up to you to fulfill the role he has given you." She gave her a small smile before poking her forehead with two fingers. "I believe in you though." She said with an eye smile before walking away.
"Wait, Weiss?!" She called, but all she got was a lazy wave before she turned a corner.
Turning around she almost bumped into Ozpin.
"Whoa! Sorry about that," she apologized.
"There is no need to apologize, Miss. Rose." Ozpin said before taking a sip.
"Umm, did you hear all of that? Is what she said true, should she have been the leader instead of team RWBY?" Her eyes looked at her shoes as she pressed her fingers nervously together.
"Hmm, that remains to be seen. Your actions are your own and it is up to you to decide how to lead your team. I have made many mistakes in my life, more than you will ever possibly know. It is only the first day Ruby and being a team leader does not mean only in combat. Instead, it is something that you will always carry with you, if you do not act up to your own standards, how can you ever get others to follow you? But, I can say with certainty that you have a teammate who cares very much about each of you, perhaps more than you can know. Trust in her and trust in your actions. Good luck Ruby Rose." With that, the professor walked off.
Weiss stood around the corner listening in on Ruby's talk with the headmaster. Satisfied with what she heard, she pushed off the wall and began heading towards the library. There was so much to do and such little time, but she brought out her scroll and opened her notes. Smiling, she erased the first line, "Be a better mentor to team RWBY."
Well, that's it! Team RWBY is coming together as a family! YAY! The next chapter will be out next Thursday. I'm saying it here so that I can be held accountable. Please review if you enjoyed and thanks for reading!
