A/N: Sorry for the skipped update last week. We had a very important birthday in our house (my oldest turned 5) and we unplug for a few days for birthdays. That and we finally got the keys to our new house, so moving and packing with a 5-year-old and 5-month-old is really interesting…
I am taking some creative liberty in golf being a unionized sport. Bear with me….
Chapter 42
Arizona's POV
Arizona was regretting that she agreed to the week in Michigan with her family. She loved her parents dearly, but she had a lot to do back in Miami and she was on a clock. Glancing over at the sleeping Latinas next to her she was excited to show them around her parent's place. Yes, the beaches in Miami were beautiful but few things beat northern Michigan summers. Her parents lived on Lake Michigan in a beautiful two-story home. It was her mother's dream. Her father had agreed to it after having them moving every 18 months for 10 years. This was their agreement.
The worst part of this trip was the drive from the airport to their place. It was roughly 5 hours. Sofia and Callie had both passed out around the second hour and Arizona was going through her to do list for when they returned to Miami. She only had roughly 3 weeks left from the time their plane touched down back home to when she was packing up and heading to Arizona for the first tournament of the year.
Pulling into her parent's driveway it was just about to hit dusk. This was the most beautiful time of day here. Shaking her love, she was met with a grunt. "Calliope…. wake up love." She whispered. Slowly, the beautiful brown eyes she fell in love with opened and met hers. "Come with me." She opened the door and walked around to let Callie out. Grabbing her hand, she took her over to her parent's dock. The sedan still visible in case Sofia woke up before the sun set.
"This is my favorite place. I used to come here when things got to be too much over in Boston." Arizona confessed. The last time she was here she was recovering from her one and only heart break. It actually made Arizona sad how long it had been since she visited her parents. "Deep in thought over there?" Callie interrupted her thoughts. "Oh, no. Just thinking about how long it has been since I actually visited my parents. I feel kind of guilty now." Arizona grabbed Callie and pulled her to the end of the dock. The swing her father had built at the end. She put her arm around Callie as the sun sank down. The orange, purple, and blue sky was like a portrait painted especially for them.
"Wow." Callie whispered. In awe.
"I know…." Was all Arizona responded. "Just wait until its dark. The stars honestly look fake. I can't wait to show Sof."
They sat quietly together. Just taking in the gorgeous sunset in front of them.
"Arizona. Thank you. Thank you for loving Sof the way you do." Callie earnestly declared.
"Calliope. I love Sofia so much. Thank you for letting me be in her life." Arizona whispered. She tucked a stray hair behind Callie's ear. The Latina's tanned skin mixed with the gorgeous sky made her look like a goddess. "I am so in love with you, Calliope. I want it all with you. I want to be 60 years old sitting on a chair just like this with you. Getting mad our kids haven't visited in a while. Growing old together. I see that for us." Arizona leaned in and gently kissed her lover's lips. A soft kiss. It felt like locking in a promise.
Just as Callie was about to respond to Arizona's declaration, she heard Sofia's panicked voice. "Mami!"
She bolted down the dock to the car to retrieve the scared little girl. Arizona just smiled. That was what she wanted. She wanted to comfort their children one day. Be the one they called out for.
Callie's POV
Callie scooped up Sofia out of the car and whispered in her ear. She hadn't noticed how dark it had gotten outside. The poor little girl had to have been terrified.
"Sof it's okay. I am right here." Callie whispered.
"Where's Arizona?" Sofia whined.
Callie couldn't help but freeze. Never had her daughter sought someone else for comfort. "Uh. She is down by the dock, Mija. I'm right here though." Callie rocked her quietly.
"I want Arizona." Sofia whimpered.
"I'm right here sweetie." Callie jumped. She hadn't noticed Arizona walk up behind them.
Callie watched as Sofia lunged into Arizona's arms and nuzzled into her. She sat shocked as Arizona rocked Sofia and the little Latina started laughing. As Callie was about to respond to the events that had just unfolded she hear some commotion behind her.
"Arizona! Callie, Sofia!" The slight drawl in the voice told Callie that it was Barbra Robbins.
"Hi Mama." Arizona called back.
"Come on in. It's getting chilly." Barbra called. Callie watched as Daniel Robbins very dutifully walked to their rental car to unload their belongings. The Robbins family was all about tradition. So, it was no surprise when they walked into the house Callie could smell dinner in the air and surely dessert. Callie just smiled. It made her heart hurt at the idea that her own mother didn't do these things. Didn't get excited to see Sofia the way that Barbara and Daniel Robbins both did.
"Now Sofia. I expect you to ready at 0600 hours to go out on the boat. You promised me a fishing excursion." Daniel said across the dinner table.
"Daddy. Sof has been traveling all day. Does this really have to happen tomorrow?" Arizona chimed in.
"No, I want to go with Grandpa Daniel!" Sofia whined.
Silence
Daniel just coughed on the bite of dinner he had been eating. "Then 0600 it is Sof." He said through the lump in his throat.
The dinner resumed as normal. Not like Sofia had just taken it upon herself to call Daniel Grandpa. As they all found their rooms for the night Daniel cleared his throat.
"Um. Callie. If. If what Sofia said at dinner was an issue."
"Only if it is an issue with you." Callie responded.
"Not at all. I would be honored." Daniel responded voice seeping with emotion.
"That settles it then." Callie smiled wrapping Daniel in a hug.
Arizona's POV
"So…. she called my Dad Grandpa…." Arizona whispered. She and Callie were laying in the queen bed in one of the guest rooms.
"Mhmmm" Was all Callie replied.
"How do you feel about that?" Arizona questioned.
"I feel like it is Sofia's decision. But I also think you need to understand that Sofia and I are 100% in this now. She sees your family as your family. Arizona, she wanted you to comfort her instead of me. That is a really big deal. I need for you to understand the magnitude of everything that happened in the last 4 hours. I need to know that you are in this. What you said on the dock was all the right things. But Sofia has to come first." Callie was now propped up on her elbow facing Arizona.
"Calliope I am in." Arizona whispered. She grabbed Callie's face and kissed her. Rolling her over so that she was now under her. "I need you. I need you and Sofia. Before, nothing could give me the rush of a golf match. Nothing mattered more than finishing first. Nothing. But now. Now, I don't need that. I don't need the fans. I don't need the competition…I just need me girls. My family." A tear fell from her eye at her declaration. If she had a ring at that moment she would propose. The magnitude of what Sofia did at dinner.
"I love you." Callie whispered.
"I love you too." Arizona replied. She grabbed Callie's neck and kissed her. Kissed her with so much passion it threatened to burst. Her hand gliding down the Latina's body.
"Ehh. We are not having sex at your parents' house, Arizona." Callie chuckled into the kiss.
"Calliope…seriously. I just confessed my undying love to you, and you shut me down?" Arizona feigned hurt.
"If we were at home. I would do very dirty things to you…However, we are under your parents' roof." Callie whispered as she nuzzled Arizona's neck.
"Cal. Seriously. We are here for a week!" Arizona thought that Callie surely had to be joking. A week….
"Yup. So, get ready for some cold showers." Callie smacked Arizona's ass and rolled over to go to bed. "I love you!" she teased.
"Yeah. Love you too." Arizona whined.

Three days into their Michigan trip and Arizona was remembering everything she loved about this place. The quiet, her mom's cooking, and just feeling completely at peace. Sofia was basically attached to her father's hip so her and Callie had the opportunity to enjoy some time just the two of them. Not in the way Arizona would hope…. Callie was still standing firm on her no sex under her parent's roof rule.
As Arizona was dosing on the swing her phone started to ring.
"Teddy. What's up. Are you guys here?" Arizona groggily answered.
"We will be there tonight. This is a business call." Her agent was in business mode right now. "everything okay?" Asked Arizona. Sitting up in her seat.
"Yeah. Well no. I don't know. I am fine. But, you are about to have a conflict of interest." Teddy rambled.
"Teddy. What is going on?"
"The PGA Players are going on strike. The CBA is expiring, and the PGA and PGA Players can't come up with a deal. They canceled the first three tournaments." Teddy informed her.
"So, the conflict of interest is with….?" Arizona was a bit confused.
"Your girlfriend's Dad sits on the board…. You are negotiating against him. Well not you personally…but you get what I am saying." Arizona was a bit confused. She really wasn't familiar with the whole CBA situation, but 3 tournaments canceled gave her more time with Callie. Yea…that is a conflict.
"Alright Teds. Thanks for the heads up. Is there anything I have to do?"
"When the new CBA is published you will have to vote. But they are talking a few months because of how far apart they seem to be. I will keep you posted."
"Sounds good. Thanks, Teddy. See you tonight!" Arizona hung up the phone and slumped back into her chair. Well. She had a whole extra month with Callie and Sofia. She would enjoy that. Hopefully it didn't cause too much drama with Carlos.
Lost in her own thoughts, she didn't even hear her mother approach.
"Hey sweetie. Everything okay?" Her Mom asked as she settled in next to her.
"Yeah. Just some business stuff. Nothing to stress about." Arizona leaned into her mother's shoulder.
They were quiet for a few minutes. She hadn't sat like this with her mother in years.
"Talk to me about Callie." Her mother prodded in a way only Barbara Robbins could.
"Moooooooooom." Arizona whined.
"Arizona Marie. Come on. Talk to me." Her mother sternly directed.
"I am going to marry her, Mama." Arizona looked at her mother.
"You're serious…" Her mother stated, surprised.
"Yeah. I have a ring. I am going to do it. Soon. I just have to talk to Carlos." Arizona looked at her mother. 3…..2…..1…..
"Ohhhhh Arizona! We are going to plan a wedding!" Her mother basically shrieked.
"Well, she hasn't said yes yet, so calm down." Arizona tried to calm her mother down but couldn't help laughing at her excitement. Arizona wasn't one for big parties or anything like that. But, if Callie wanted a big fancy wedding they would have one.
She sat with her mother on the rocker and just talked. Talked about life and golf and family. It felt good.
Callie's POV
"Mami. Is it okay I call Daniel and Barbara Grandpa and Grandma?" Sofia asked as Callie as she brushed her hair after her shower.
"Yeah, Mija. I think it made them really happy." Callie smiled. She was grateful for the Robbins being so welcoming of their daughter.
"Um. Mami. Would you be mad if I called Arizona Mama? You are my Mami, and I love you. I just wanted to know if it would be okay if I called her Mama. I just. I love her and I really want her to be with us forever." Sofia was rambling. A trait she seemed to have picked up from Arizona.
"Sof. If you want to call Arizona Mama, I think she would like that. I want her with us forever too, Mija. I love her. Annnnd I love you." Callie wrapped Sofia in a hug and kissed her cheek. "I am proud of you, Sof. I am grateful for you. It has been me and you for so long. You know you are my best friend right?" Callie asked earnestly. Her and Arizona had kind of been a whirlwind romance. They never really expected any of this, but they were happy with how things were going. Now Sofia was talking about calling Arizona Mama after 5 months of dating. It seemed a bit fast. But when you know you know. Arizona had stepped up and filled that second parent role. It was seamless.
"Of course, Mami. You and me forever and ever. Remember?" Sofia returned her mother's embrace.
"Forever and Ever." Callie held her for a moment. Soaking in these moments, knowing they were few and far between the older Sofia got.

Teddy and Tim had arrived the previous evening and the plan today was to enjoy Mackinaw Island with the Robbins family. When Arizona first informed Callie that they would take a ferry boat to an island where there were no cars she had some reservations. But once they stepped foot on the island it was like being teleported to a different world. There were horse and buggies, people riding bikes. It was beautiful.
"Mami! Look at the horse carriages! Can we ride in one? Please!" Sofia was bouncing up and down.
"Sure, Mija. Let's just get sorted first." Callie grabbed Sofia's hand. It was crowded and a bit chaotic in the area where you exited the ferry boat. Callie couldn't locate the older Robbins and was about to panic when she felt a familiar hand at the small of her back. "This way" Arizona whispered. She watched as Arizona lifted Sofia up onto her shoulders and grabbed Callie's hand navigating them through the crowds. She is very strong for such a small woman.
Callie saw Daniel and Barbara at bike rental area to the right. She watched as Daniel handed his credit card over to the worker.
"We are riding bikes?" Callie asked a bit confused.
"Yeah! That is the only way around the whole island. You have to get the full experience." Tim ran up to her and put his arms around her shoulders.
"Hands to yourself brother." Arizona joked as she took Callie and Arizona over to the bikes to make their selection.
"Come on AZ. I won't steal your girlfriend. Mine is enough for me." He winked over to Teddy.
"Tim. You couldn't steal her if you wanted to." Arizona quipped back.
"You guys know we are standing right here right?" Teddy chimed in.
Arizona and Tim just looked at each other and shrugged. Finding a small pink bike for Sofia, Arizona adjusted the seat and made sure there was a water bottle in the holder for the little girl. She went and grabbed a helmet and fastened it on to Sofia's head. Callie just watched in amazement at the way they interreacted. Arizona just knew what Sof needed. Then the thought popped in her head. I need to buy a ring.
Arizona's POV
Arizona was having the time of her life showing Sofia and Callie around Mackinaw Island. Her and Sofia had already been chastised by her mother and Callie for the amount of fudge they had consumed. She continued to use the excuse that Mackinaw was known for their fudge, and Sofia had to get an authentic experience. She could have sworn she heard Callie mumble something about having two children, but oh well!
They were now relaxing at a beach area at the far end of the island. They were enjoying a picnic lunch taking a break from their biking. They managed to grab a table right by the water. It was a gorgeous view. She was in the middle of fixing Sofia's braids when her brother stood up. She watched as he grabbed Teddy's hand and walked her over towards the water. The conversation they had the night prior still fresh in her mind, she knew what was about to happen. But it didn't make the gasp that left her mother's mouth any less funny. She watched Tim get down on one knee and pull a ring out. She was even surprised at how beautiful his proposal was.
"Teddy. All my life I have felt like something was missing. Moving around always made me think I was destined for a life of travel with no plans to settle down. Then Arizona brings you over and I could literally feel my heart skip. Over the last 10 years you have been my friend and a business partner, but I always wanted more. I really think I have loved you from the first day I saw you. I could be anywhere in this world, but with you I feel like I am home. I never want to lose that feeling. Theodora Danielle Altman. Will you marry me?"
Everyone cheered when Teddy cleared the tears from her eyes and yelped Yes! She watched as her best friend jumped into her brother's embrace and kissed him passionately.
"Time for wedding planning!" her mother yelled from next to her. Jeeze this woman is something else
After many congratulations and showing off the gorgeous ring that her and Tim shopped for together…. where she made her own purchase. They all headed back towards the front of the island. Sofia was getting tired, and the sun was starting to set.
"Sof. How about a carriage ride to the ferry area?" Arizona whispered to the sleepy girl.
"Yeah" was all she got in response. Wow she must be wiped.
Walking over to one of the carriages she told the driver where they were headed and lifted the little Latina into the carriage. Callie climbed in next to her and the three of them rode silently to the front section of the island. As Callie climbed out of the carriage Arizona lifted the sleeping child to hand her down to Callie. She climbed out of the carriage and tipped the driver. Their group had found their way back to their ferry and as they climbed on to the boat and found their seats. Sofia stirred in Callie's lap and then without a second though abandoned her mother's lap for Arizona's. Arizona couldn't help the smile that overtook her face. She also couldn't help the chuckle at the pout her Latina was currently sporting.
"I still love you, Calliope." Arizona whispered into her ear.
"I love you too. I'll remember this…." Callie pouted.
Callie's POV
Settling Sofia into her bedroom, complete with a princess comforter, Callie stopped at the doorway. How in the world had her little girl grown into a seven-year-old? Time was flying by and suddenly her mind brought her back to a conversation she and Arizona had the first night they arrived in Michigan. Arizona had talked about their children. The blonde wanted more kids with her. That was a conversation that had to happen. Callie wasn't old by any stretch of the imagination, but if she was going to have more kids it would have to be in the next few years.
"What has you thinking so hard?" Arizona whispered as she approached.
"Just thinking about how fast Sofia grew up. I want her to stay little forever." Callie leaned back into the blonde and felt as Arizona's chin rested on her shoulder.
"Yeah. I can't believe she is seven. I have only known her five months, but she has grown so much."
Callie felt Arizona pull her back towards their room. She gladly followed. The day had been long, and her feet were killing here. Nothing sounded as good as snuggling up in bed with her blonde.

The time had come for the girls to leave the Robbins house. As sad as Callie was, she was ready to return to Miami. She missed home and the routine that the three had found. Before they left Callie asked Daniel into his den to chat.
"How can I help you, Callie?" Daniel asked.
"I um. I wanted to ask you…. I love your daughter. More than I have ever loved anyone. Sofia loves her. I wanted to ask you if she would do me the honor, I would like to ask her to marry me. But I know it would mean a lot to her if I had your blessing." Callie rambled out.
She was met with a stern look from Daniel Robbins. She watched as Daniel went over to his room, in the direction of his guns. She felt her throat go dry. This was not what she was expecting. He pulled up at a picture and Callie noticed how it moved and made way for a wall safe. He put in a code and opened the safe. Now confused, she sat as he walked back in her direction with something in his hand.
He placed the small red box in front of her and sat back down. With shaky hands she grabbed the box and opened it. Inside sat the most gorgeous ring she had ever seen. A ring that screamed Arizona Robbins. It was vintage. Round with small diamonds surrounding a large oval diamond. She had never seen anything like it. It was stunning. Breathtaking. Gorgeous. Not enough words to describe it.
"This…." Callie could barely speak.
"Did Arizona tell you how she got her name?" Daniel asked.
"Ye-yes sir." Callie responded.
"This ring belonged to her grandmother. Her grandmother and grandfather exchanged rings before he was shipped off to Peral Harbor. He would wear hers around his neck, she his. It was a tradition of theirs. Her grandfather drowned saving 19 men. When they recovered his body, this was in his hand. The last thing he grabbed. Arizona loved this ring from the time she was young. My mother left it to her in her will. Arizona doesn't know that though. When Arizona told me, she was a lesbian she was scared. It hurt me that she would think I would turn my back on her. When she told me about you I was skeptical? She was an up in coming name in the golf world and then you came. I thought she would lose her focus. But you. You Callie. You and Sofia make her better. I would be honored to have you as part of our family. You and Sofia. You are doing a great job with her." Daniel declared with tears in his eyes. He got up from his desk and stood in front of her.
Callie rose from her seat and accepted the hug that he gave her. She cried in his arms at the idea of the future she could have with Arizona. The future she couldn't wait to start.
