Yeah hi its Whumptober again and I decided to take a crack at it. Only...life got in the way. I'll probably end up with like three one shots at best with the Ni No Kuni side of things...so I just decided to use the same fic collection for last year. Why not I guess. *shrugs*
Anyway, this is technically my second nnk2 submission but the first one isn't complete yet so I'm posting this one first. Here we're covering Day/No.5 - I've got red in my ledger (sub prompt: betrayal).
Warnings for: Gun violence and chapter 7 spoilers
It's...uhhh...been a while since I last played nnk2 so my understanding on character accents are shaky at best. orz
Dreaming of Days To Come
By Bilbo-sama
There was the sound of a loud crack before Evan registered the pain in his side. He yowled as he scrambled to cover the bullet wound in hopes of preventing more blood from spreading on his clothes.
"Hmm," huffed Roland as he coldly lowered his gun, "I missed."
"R-Roland…" Evan whimpered as he frantically searched his arms band for a stronger variant of Soreaway with just one free hand, "why are you doing this?"
"Because the House of Tildrum still lives," explained Roland calmly as if he was discussing the weather, "and His Majesty King Mausinger will never allow me to return home until I finish what we've started."
"Then you were…!"
"I was never on your side to begin with," Roland then demonstrated this by raising his gun again and shooting Evan in the leg. The boy screamed and dropped the Soreaway leaf he just managed to retrieve. "There was no other world. Doloran is yet another loyal follower of our Liege."
Oi! Wake up!
"But why break the Kingsbonds of other nations?" Evan managed between waves of agony.
Roland smirked, "How else was Ding Dong Dell going to become the greatest nation of this world?"
Evan watched in horror as more of his world came crashing down in the form of Doloran suddenly arriving to the scene in a burst of magic.
Roland stepped to the side, "He's all yours, Doloran."
Evan!
"Finally," huffed the sorcerer as dark magic surrounded his fist, "this can all finally end."
"Roland!" Evan cried out as Doloran approached, "Roland, please!"
Wake up, Evan!
"I'm sorry, Evan," Roland shook his head before turning to leave the throne room, "but this is how it should end."
Cold dark magic touched Evan's chest and it was enough for his eyes to snap open.
"Flippin' nora!" yelped Lofty as Evan suddenly sat up, gasping. He looked around and noted that he was in his bedroom. It was still dark outside according to the window.
"S…sorry, Lofty," gasped Evan as he felt his side and leg for wounds that never happened, "I…had a bad dream."
"I'd say!" Lofty crossed his arms, "you wouldn't wake up no matter how much I yelled. It was that flippin' bad!"
His annoyed expression softened, "What happened?"
"It was Roland…" said Evan, his eyes downcast as he hugged his knees, "he claimed he was working for Mausinger this whole time. He then shot me."
"Whaaat? He would never!"
"I know," mumbled Evan miserably, "but it felt so real. Especially when Doloran tried to steal our Kingsbond." It felt so cold.
"It never happened," said Lofty reassuringly, "Roland and the others would never allow it to happen. Heck, Batu's men would never allow Roland leave Evermore in one piece if he ever did betray you."
"I know…"
"So you see there's nothin' to worry about, yeah?"
"I guess so," Evan laid back down on the bed now that he felt calmer. Lofty curled up near his chest where the Kingsbond figuratively resided. Knowing that the little Kingmaker would do all he can to protect it, Evan closed his eyes and tried to go back to sleep.
Days later, it was discovered that Roland was passing along state secrets to a spy. He did nothing to refute any of the accusations.
Instead, Evan watched helplessly as Roland left the throne room.
