Note: Hey Guys it's been a while! I know you might be disappointed that I'm not working on the other stories but don't worry I'll get back to them after some rewriting. The is the first fic I ever published (youtube under Highschool V) so it's the first one I'll rewrite and FINISH. I'll definitely finish my stories. Anyway if you have any feedback or theories on the story feel free share. Well anyway, I hope you enjoy the first chapter!

The clacking of heeled shoes on the stone stairs echoes through the stairwell. The torches light my way as I proceed down to the basement. After another flight, I come across a door. Unlike the medieval style of the stairwell, this particular door and frame were made of metal. Not only that, but it presented higher levels of technology than the upper areas of the building. There was a touchpad on the door, the way to unlock it no doubt. But that wasn't what caught my attention. The torchlight illuminated the reflective metal door. In that reflective surface, I was able to see my reflection. A beautiful young human girl with blonde locks and short bangs parted in the front. She had jewel blue eyes that were round and bright. Her clothes seemed to match the blue theme. She wore a powder blue long-sleeve dress that went to the knees and a berry blue short-sleeve crop top jacket.

My feminine furless peach hands reach for the door pad and press my pointer finger on it. After it scans my finger, a number pad pops up allowing me to enter the correct code with ease. The door unlocks and opens on its own. My shoes clack once more as I enter the room in front of me.

In simple words, the room I walked into was a science laboratory. A laboratory that appears to have sprong up from a futuristic sci-fi version of "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde." There were cabinets filled with materials and tools, a table with a mechanism that appeared to be squeezing the liquid out of some odd-looking fruit into a couple of beakers filled with different chemicals. There was another table with spare parts and a unique-looking gun next to them. Seeing as the person I wanted to see was not in this room, I began to speculate where they could be. To the left side of the room was a door that led to a large vehicle hanger filled with prototype inventions and spare parts. But seeing as I didn't hear any power tools, they wouldn't be there. So I went to an old computer in the right corner. By pressing a few keys on the keyboard, a soft click could be heard behind me. I turned to see a cabinet turning away from the wall, opening another passageway to me. I entered the new area as the cabinet closed behind me.

If I hadn't known better, I would've walked down the passageway leading to various traps, dead ends, and death. Instead, I grabbed the torch in front of me and pulled it down. In response, a hole suddenly opens up in the metal wall, and I walk through once more. This room was similar to the previous one, only with more advanced machinery as well as medical supplies. There was a table with a plate of untouched food on it. Seeing this I sighed.

"Grandpa?" My voice was soft and warm as I uttered that simple word, waiting to find a reply.

"Over here, teddy bear." A gruff older voice announced itself from the far corner of the room behind a white curtain. It looks like he was working on "him" again.

I grabbed the plate of rice and a pork chop and was surprised by how it was still slightly warm. 'Well, now I don't need to reheat it in the lab.' With this, I went to the curtain and pulled it back.

Beyond this curtain was the side profile of an old man, probably around 45. He was bald but had a noticeably large frizzy grey mustache. His glasses were round and reflective to the point where one couldn't make out the color of his eyes. Though I knew they were a lighter blue than my eyes. He wore his usual laboratory coat with black dress pants and shoes. There was a vertical cylindrical tank in front of him and a horizontal tank a couple of feet behind him. He had a clipboard and a pen in his hand as he checked off the working conditions of the IV and oxygen tank. A cylindrical IV that contained a mysterious clear fluid as well as a red emerald that glowed with mysterious power. The combination is what was keeping the patient behind the scientist from succumbing to his wounds.

"Any issues with the medical devices?" I asked as I drew closer to him.

He looked at me and smiled warmly despite being tired. "They're working splendidly, but there's still no sign of him awakening."

I gestured for him to hand me the clipboard, he reluctantly did with a sigh. In return, I gave him the plate of food. I flipped through the papers on the clipboard, then glanced at the tank housing the patient in question.

"Do we have an estimate on when he'll wake up?"

He went to sit in a nearby chair and took the first bites of proper food for nearly half the day. "The injuries from the attempted overthrow are 82% healed, his organs have been restored, his brain waves have not changed in the past 10 years but I wouldn't be surprised if he developed amnesia from the head injury taken in his fall. I estimate another two years before he is in the proper state of being to awaken."

'Two years, just two more years…' My face must have said everything for my grandfather to say, "I know you miss him I miss my friend as well. But he'll get through this, especially with the power of that gem aiding in the healing process." He looked at the patient tank with longing. The same familial longing I had in my own eyes.

"From the few years I was with him as a kid I considered him the father I never had. I just wish Chaos wouldn't take him like he did my mother and father." I wanted to place my hand on the glass but kept them glued to the clipboard in my hands, my hold painfully tightening.

"I know sweety, I know." We shared a few moments in silence, letting the warmth and closeness of each other seemingly allowed us to breathe the freshest puffs of air in a while. Though we were in a room way underground, it felt like there was a warm breeze that enveloped us. A breath of hope came into our lungs, raising the shoulders that have been down for so long. A warmth surged our bodies as if responding to our current emotions. The heat was centralized on our backs as if someone had placed a hand on them to say 'you've done well.'

That's when I noticed an unnatural red light in the corner of my eyes. As I turned, the light from the IV tank got brighter to the point where it became unbearable.

"Grandpa what's going on!" I said in surprise while shielding my eyes.

"I don't know!" He sounded just as worried about this new phenomenon as I was.

Then no amount of shielding could protect one's eyes from the glowing gem as it encased the room in red turning white.

Then all of a sudden, it stopped and became dark. Opened for the first time in years, blood-red eyes glowed in the darkness.

It was dark and quiet.

A beaming red light is what aroused him from his deep sleep. His face scrunched up in annoyance as he used his arms to shield his closed eyes, but it was all for not.

Beep beep. Beep beep. Beep beep….

His phone rang and buzzed on the dresser next to him. His alarm urging him to awaken at once. The boy groaned turning his body toward the dresser and opened his exhausted emerald green eyes. Catching sight of the immediate threat to his sleep, his peach fur hands reach to grab the phone and silence it for good. 'I had another weird dream last night, oh it's 7:45…' As he did so his eyes so happened to glance at the time presented on the phone screen. '...Oh, it's 7:45, CRAP!' With that though what was once tired, emerald eyes grew alert and very awake. He jumps out of bed as if it were a springboard and dashes to the bathroom in haste.

He'd done most of the morning necessities in swift action. He finished washing the toothpaste from his mouth when he looked at himself in the mirror. He saw a few spines out of place, he sighed took a comb, and started brushing the spines back.

The boy was 21 years old and is a hedgehog of the Mobian race. He had unique cobalt-colored quills with peach fur on his face, arms, and chest area. He has a floral tattoo-like marking on his lower back. It's a birthmark as well as a topic he doesn't like to discuss. He was 3 foot 3 inches tall and had a fairly toned body, especially with his legs. He has round emerald eyes which were usually filled with friendly determination to get through the school day. But now were only filled with urgency to get to school on time in the first place. His name was Sonic Maurice Hedgehog and he was a junior at Knot Hole University in the city of Mobotropolis. Once the last quill was put in place Sonic went to swiftly complete the other necessities of the morning.

He was lucky enough to have had prepare for such circumstances and had his uniform hanging on the bathroom door. A brown dress vest, white button-up, and brown dress pants were ready for him to throw on. The red sports shoes with a white stripe and golden buckle weren't part of the uniform, but he liked the additional flare.

He's out of the bathroom in minutes which shows as his phone now reads 7:52. With little time for breakfast, Sonic rummages through his dry food bin under his bed. A granola bar seemed to be the meal of choice for the morning.

Sonic snatched his keys and bag and made his way out the door with a granola bar in his mouth.

He ran down the hall, jumped the stairs to the 1st-floor door, past the check-in desk, out the door-

"Sonic! Sonic Hedgehog!" A slightly high-pitched male voice yells out from behind Sonic.

The speedster came to a slow jog and turns his head, only to see a 4 ft middle-aged bunny waving his hands and calling out to him. He had bright baby blue eyes and a light brown coat. He had a darker shade of brown at the tips of his ears, head fur, tail, and he wore a plain white dress shirt and black tie with a pair of light blue genes. Aki Bounce, the "Dorm Father" and Guidance Counselor for the boys' dorm. He's the shy type but is very hardworking and generally concerned with the welfare of the students under his care.

The hedgehog didn't know what he wanted but whatever it was it could wait. He quickly checked his phone, 7:54. 'I needed to get to school pronto!'

"Sorry Dr. B, but can't talk right now! I have to bounce or I'll be late!" Sonic hollers back once again picking up the pace. The rabbit behind him cringes at his name being used as a pun.

"But it's about your new-!" The hedgehog couldn't hear the bunny's voice anymore after dashing out the door. He'll worry about what the Doc's news later. His mind was currently preoccupied with only one worry.

'I can't be late!'

The hedgehog raced out of the dorm courtyard and turned to the sidewalk. He reached the corner just as the red hand glowed for 'no crossing' and came to an abrupt stop. As the seconds ticked away as slow as possible the boy tapped his foot. The foot tapped to a nonexistent beat the seemed to go faster and faster the more Sonic had to wait for the light to change. Eventually, the tapping just turned into a slight in-place jog as he chewed his breakfast bar. 'Come on come on!'

Once the light became a person walking, the hedgehog basitcally flew across the street. He ran onto the college grounds and quickened his pace to the English building on the far left of the grounds. He practically slammed open the doors and ran up the stairs to the second floor.

'7:59. Room 207 A is around the corner. I can make it!'

He rounded the corner and saw the door in the process of closing. With a last burst of speed, the hedgehog practically dived into the room. But before he could celebrate his success he crashes into the person that was closing the door.

"Gah!"

"Ow!'

"Rrrrrrrrriiiiinnnngggg!"

"Ooowww..." Sonic rubbed his head, it felt he had run straight into an iron wall. He opens his eyes and finds that he was on something white, black, and fluffy. Huh? He sat up.

"Ugh..." Quelling a forming concussion, Sonic looked down to see he was on top of another anthropomorphic hedgehog who seemed to be laying on his back with a gloved hand rubbing his forehead.

He was a male ebony black hedgehog with red highlights. His muzzle was an umber brown. He wore the same uniform but with a red & black tie. He also had white gloves that had black and red cuffs at his wrists. One gold ring on each wrist covered most of the cuffs securing them in place.

Though the cobalt hedgehog's head was still spinning from the collision, found himself captivated by those irritated crimson red eyes staring back at him. He felt an odd tingling feeling from his birthmark as he observes those eyes. Those crimson eyes...'Why did they look so familiar-'

"If you're done staring, can you get off of me?" The unnamed ebony hedgehog said in a deep, rich, and irritated tone.

Sonic shakes his head, coming out of his daze, ignoring the snickers in the class. He quickly gets off of the other Mobian, standing over the other with an apologetic smile. "Hehe…Sorry about that. You alright?" He extended his hand out to the ebony hedgehog, muzzled flushed in embarrassment.

The other looked up at him and his outstretched hand. "Peachy." He grumbles and takes Sonic's hand. The cobalt hedgehog pulls the ebony up. Now that Sonic thought of it, he'd never seen the other before, especially not in this class. 'A new student?'

Upon getting the other to his feet, Emerald eyes find their way to a silhouette behind the other hedgehog. Knowing the silhouette well Sonic broke into a cold sweat. Seeing the sudden change, the darker hedgehog turns around to see a mobian white wolf in a dark grey business suit with a diamond tattoo on his left cheek. The yellow eyes of the wolf glared daggers at the two younger Mobians, but mainly the blue one.

"Now, Mr. Hedgehog, I would advise you to take a seat. You're disrupting my class before it even starts." The wolf said with a smooth yet oddly intimidating tone of voice. His name is Eren Okami or Mr. Okami. He was one of the few English Literature teachers in this building. He wore a business suit every day in class, but the few that saw him in normal clothes say he has more tattoos on his arms and torso. Some even said he's part of a gang, though Sonic thought it was just a rumor that floated around the school due to the wolf's tough exterior. Besides, the school wouldn't have hired him if that was the case.

Sonic didn't know him that well, but from what he could see the wolf was a hard-headed softy that would care for or defend his students. For that Sonic respected him. But for right now the teacher was very intimidating.

Sonic put his hands up in surrender. "No need to bare your fangs teach, I'm going." He hurriedly walks to his desk by the window in the back. He placed his bag beside his chair and sat at his desk with the proper posture.

The wolf stared at Sonic for a few more seconds before turning to the darker hedgehog and motioned for him to stand behind the podium. "Alright class before we begin, we have a sudden transfer today. Go ahead and introduce yourself."

The transfer student slightly bowed his head to the class in front of him. "I'm Shadow Robotnik, it's a pleasure to meet you all." He said in a respectable tone.

"Now your seat will be that empty seat, second row in the middle."

Shadow gave the wolf a nod. He grabbed his bag at the foot of the podium and went to his seat. While Sonic's allowed him to see the outside, Shadow's seat allowed a better view of the whiteboard.

Mr. Okami took an orange marker. "Now everyone, pull out your textbooks to 254, we'll be starting the story of Frankenstein."

Sonic complied while scratching his birthmark as it burned like an annoying itch. He doesn't know what it means, though he had his theories. But looking at the new guy, he had a feeling things would get a lot more interesting now.
