The morning shift directly after the end of Daylight Savings time was kicking her ass way more than she had anticipated, though as the customer on the other side of the counter started going on about her five kids after a little bit of small talk stemming from her repetitive yawning she had to appreciate the fact it really could be worse.
The woman courting around three of those said five kids wished her a quick and easy day before heading for the door and Buffy rolled her head side to side for a moment and walked around trying to wake herself up as much as she could. It was just a few moments later when the little bell for the door dinged and she glanced over, seeing him.
Deep brown eyes met hers right away and he gave her a small smile and a nod as he entered the small gas station and made his way toward the back wall with drinks and some warm goodies all ready to kickstart your morning with. Unable to stop herself, she watched as he grabbed for the sliding door to some of the cold drinks, grab one then put it back exchanging it for a different brand, then closing it. Next, he'd walked the short distance over to where there were some fresh made slices of breakfast pizza ready to go, donuts, various danishes and other little pastries and mulled over his choices for a moment before picking one out. Taking another couple of steps over he also reached a hand in for a set of breakfast burritos before carting it all back over her way, smiling and asking her how her day was going so far.
As he made small talk and let her ring his items up, his eyes glanced at the shelves covering the outside of the counter, taking in all the different types of candies and gums and other small goodies before popping one of the chocolate bars up and sliding it to her. "And as always, that would be for you," he told her and she felt a warmth spread inside of her chest, blushing as she thanked him, just finishing up as he swiped his card.
From her very first day as one of the clerks here he had been her most favorite regular customer. Not only was he always nice and too damn beautiful to be walking around here, but ever since she'd about had some sort of anxiety moment after messing up that first meeting when she was still trying to figure out what in the hell she was doing back here he had been buying her a new candy each and every time. The first time she was sure he was just trying to calm her down and assure her it was all okay and not a big deal... which was very welcomed... but it turned into a little tradition and she absolutely did not hate it.
And, as far as she knew, it was uniquely theirs. At any given opportunity while she was working he had always gone to her, stood in whatever line led her way if need be, but twice that she could remember he had been sucked into getting rang up by someone else, usually a case of not having an excuse as to why he wouldn't take the open clerk... and she couldn't help but give a side eye their way to see and had felt a little burst of sunshine hit inside of her both times when while he had been nothing short of pleasant, the little treat at the end seemed to be just something done for her.
"Don't work too hard," he told her reaching for his bag.
"I will do my best not to," she replied, sharing one last look before he was soon out the door and walking toward his truck.
