"Buttercup? Pfff. His name is buttercup?" Said Chat Noir, chuckling. Marinette resisted the urge to roll her eyes at him. They were at her balcony, he was sitting on her chaise lounge and she was standing right in front of him, trying to rehearse to finally tell Adrien how much she loved him.
"Of course not. That's just er, a code name"
"Sure. So... What's flower boy's real name?"
"That's private, Chat"
"Alright, got it. Let's continue, then"
"Cher Buttercup, since the day we first met, they're three suns inside my heart..."
"Hold on, Marinette, buttercups are yellow, so, flower boy's hair..." Chat Noir put a hand to his chin, thinking.
"Oh, it is blonde, golden blonde"
"Yeah? Is he handsome?" He tried.
"He is the most handsome boy in the whole world! He has gorgeous green eyes and..." Suddenly, Marinette stopped daydreaming. Chat Noir's eyes had opened widely.
"Gorgeous... green you said?"
"Well yeah, but let's go back to business. Please"
Marinette answered.
"Su-sure" (Gorgeous green... I know I heard that before) He thought.
"Cher buttercup, since the day we first met, they're three suns... No, forget it"
"What's wrong, Marinette? You were doing it well"
"Thank you, but that's not the real me speaking. I mean, shouldn't I speak from the heart?" The hero smiled kindly.
"I'm listening. You can do it!" He said with a wink.
Marinette smiled back and then she sighed deeply.
"Your hair shines like the sun, your eyes are so gorgeous green. Every single time I look at you, I wish I knew everything about your innermost thoughts and your biggest dreams. The sadness you seem to carry everyday, I'm dying to hug you and wipe it away. I know I misjudged you at first, when I met you in the rain. But now I know who you really are, your pure soul, your kind heart, you always leave me mesmerized. What I'm trying to say is... I love you, Adrien" Marinette was talking so heartedly and passionately his name just slipped. Chat Noir gasped.
"So it was that...that bad?" She stammered. The hero stood up and wrapped her in his strong arms. Marinette froze with the warm, unexpected contact. She felt his body tremble.
"Kitty, are you, are you cold?" She was confused. Then, Marinette was even more confused when she heard him sobbing.
"Chat, Chat Noir? What's wrong?"
Without saying a word, still processing what he had just discovered, he held her tighter.
"Chat Noir, please let me go. It's really late and..."
"Its okay, Marinette" He was still crying.
"No, it's not. Did I make you feel sad somehow? I'm so sorry"
"Oh, you did, M'lady. When you tossed me in a trash can" He was still hurt, but now, the boy understood her a little more.
"Wha-what?! I-I don't know what you're talking about" Marinette, shocked by his words, tried to break free again.
"Chat Noir, stop saying nonsense and just let go already! My parents must be wondering where I am"
"Are you sure you want to run away from your dear flower boy?" Even between tears, he laughed a little.
"My what?!"
"Marinette, you're my lady and I..."
"How, how could you know?"
"Claws out" He said in a low tone, almost a whisper, detransforming.
"I'm Buttercup, I'm Adrien"
