A black's betrayal

October 31/1981

A dark clouded figure seem to glide down the Village Street. If one looked at him they would be hard pressed to tell you more than the fact that he wore clothes. They couldn't even tell you if the figure was male or female. Everything from their head, to the chest, to their feet seem to be riethed in shadow. And yet this figure seem to be gliding down the street in Godric's Hollow.

This was of course the self-styled Lord Voldemort. Self titled most powerful wizard of all time, self proclaimed final air of Salazar slytherin, and the one who had learned just three days ago The secret to where the potters were hidden.

Lord Voldemort had learned of a prophecy that had said that a child born at the end of the seventh month would be able to defeat him. How ludicrous this was of course. He was the strongest wizard of all time, how could a child test him. However he figured it was better to air on the side of caution. And so when he learned where the potters were hidden thanks to their traders friend worm tail. He had set out on this Halloween night to end the threat once and for all.

At last he arrived at the site of the cottage that Peter Pettigrew had told him about.

"How foolish these wizards are" he thought to himself as he open the gate and walked up the path.

It was a nice looking cottage" Voldemort thought to himself. There was a garden of roses along 1 side of the path, well on the other what looked like plants for potions ingredients grew. If Voldemort had not splintered his soul as much as he had, he would've thought this was a beautiful place to raise a child. And yet he was here for a darker purpose. Tonight he would and any threat to his rule over England, and eventually the rest of the world both magical and Muggle.

"Well this was a pain" Voldemort thought to himself. He had simply walked in the door, and killed James with the killing curse. James Potter was one of those whom Voldemort had wanted to tempt to his side. Charismatic, powerful, a leader among these weak willed sheep. However James had decided to side with Albus Dumbledore, and so he had to go. He Voldemort could not let anyone stand in his way of killing the child. However now he had to search for the mother. Voldemort assumed that she was up on the first floor. As there didn't seem to be any floors higher than that.

Climbing the rickety stairs, Voldemort reached out with his senses to try and detect any concentration of magic. The problem here was that there was too much. Apparently the potters have been practicing their spellcasting or something to that effect within the last couple of hours. Voldemort did not know, nor did he care what they had actually been doing, however the problem was now he couldn't determine where the mother and child were.

Thankfully for what was left of his fractured sanity there were only three doors in this upper hallway. One on the left, one on the right, and one straightahead.

Deciding it would be easier than just searching, Voldemort sent a blast of magic at all three doors at once. The one on the left and the one on the right simply collapsed in word, having nothing to support them. However the door at the end of the hall when had seem to bump into something. Evidently there was a structure blocking the door from being opened.

Cackling to himself Voldemort strode down the hall and sent an even stronger blast of magic obliterating in the door, and the dresser that had been pushed up against it.

There was the mudblood as Voldemort thought of her. Standing in front of the crib where her son was standing. Voldemort surprised at the lack of fear shown on the girls face.

"Stan decide girl" he said raising his want. "I am here only for the child.

"No" she exclaimed drawing herself even tighter against the crib where the child stood. "Leave my child. Take me instead."

"I said stand aside mudblood" he said his power beginning together at the tip of his wand. "I will not say it again."

"No" she said again. "Spare my child. Take me instead."

Fed up with this melodrama as he thought of it, Voldemort cast the killing curse at Lily Potter, and watched her fall lifeless to the floor.

Voldemort strolled over to the crib and looked down at the child, whom to his surprise returned the look he gave it with a curious one of his own.

"And they say that you will be my downfall" He murmured examining the child from head to toe. "You certainly don't look like much. However you are standing in the way of me having true immortality. And I will not allow you to stop me from ruling this world."

With that Voldemort cast the killing curse again at the child. However this is where something went wrong. Just as he was finishing up the curse, there was a glow around the crib, and someone he did not expect lunged out of the darkness with a dagger that stabbed him there in the chest.

"I will not allow you to harm this child" the figure said as Voldemort dropped to the floor with a gasp.

Turning his head Voldemort was shocked to notice that his assailant was his chief Lieutenant, Bellatrix less strange name black.

"Bella" he gasped. "What is the meaning of this?"

Bellatrix sneered at the dark Lord. "If there's one thing that the blacks value above all else" she said bending down to scoop up the child into her arms. "It's the protection of family."

With that Bellatrix unleashed a bombardment spell right into Voldemort's chest blowing it apart. She didn't stick around to see what happened afterward, instead choosing to apparate straight out of the cottage heading for a safe house that the blacks knew about.

If Bellatrix and stayed around, she would've seen a rate like spirit rise from the corpse of Voldemort, and make its way out of the house. As Voldemort spirit drifted on the wins, he's swore to himself that he would have vengeance on Bellatrix, and everyone who was left in the black clan.

AN: and that is the start of another story that hit me just an hour ago as of the time of this writing. I've actually read stories where Bellatrix raises Harry, but it's always been that she either Marys Jane's, or she comes upon Harry after Voldemort is vanquished. I've never actually read a story where Bellatrix actually turns on Voldemort, while he's in the process of eliminating the child that is prophesied to kill him. In addition my prophecy would run a little different from the one that is in book 5. I assume that J. K. Rowling did not come up with the prophecy until she was actually writing order of the Phoenix. However I simply could be wrong about that, and it was in her notes from the first book. I don't know, but I'm going to go on the assumption that she didn't know about it ahead of time, and that's why everything from the prophecy seems a little disjointed. I figure that she threw it together to show that he was the only one who could kill Voldemort when she got to the end of order of the Phoenix, but I've got a different prophecy in mind. Because of that if I ever develop this into a full story I will be working off of that prophecy that I've made a note of, and I'll be showing how Bella raising hairy fits perfectly into not only what we see in the original prophecy, but now it slots perfectly into my altered prophecy.

Don't forget if any of my readers have an idea of what to do with this story, I have no problem with you using it to start a story. Even if you need to change some of what happens here.

In any event that's the end of this little one shot, and I'll see you all next time.
