Pairing: RID Tricerashot/Grimlock
Rating: General
Details/Themes: Halloween
"What's Halloween? Your human friend keeps mentioning it," Tricerashot asked.
Grimlock immediately piped up, "Ooh ooh, it's when you disguise yourself as creepy, scary things and go around frightening others for candy!"
The Minicon stared at him. "Aren't we already 'robots in disguise?' Also, why be scary if we're trying to make peace with the locals? Doesn't that defeat the purpose? Argh, this planet's already confusing enough!"
"It's just a tradition of a holiday, not an actual day to be bad. When you dress up, you get to be whatever you want! I'm going to be a skeleton dinosaur! Russell is going to help me apply the paint," the Dinobot said.
He frowned when he noticed Tricerashot was still uncertain. "I bet Russell could help you understand better than I can but let me ask you this. If you could be whatever you wanted, just for one day, what would it be?"
The Minicon looked at his paws then at Grimlock, a small smile of amusement poking up from his otherwise stern exterior. "Well, I always wanted to have wings like, what do you call those four-legged flying creatures, dragons?"
Grimlock grew the largest grin he could muster.
With some convincing from Russell and a better explanation of the concept of Halloween later, Grimlock and Tricerashot became confident they could handle the holiday as the dusk of Hallow's Eve made a fitting orange array on the horizon.
It took a few hours to get Grimlock painted but Russell and Denny provided the finished product, just as Grimlock boasted. All of his body was painted black and a white skeleton outline was decorated over it around every crevice and angle needed to make it look "realistic." Tricerashot was even more amazed as Denny provided hand-welded wings made from spare parts and dyed an exact replica of his own paint job.
The Minicon was ecstatic and pranced around the junkyard's main area like a happy puppy, flapping his wings in joy. It was obvious the wings didn't work with the limited technology Earth had, but he didn't care. He had his wings; that was all that mattered to him.
"I got wings! I got wings! Look, Grimlock, I'm a dragon! Rawr!"
Grimlock clapped for his dear companion before turning in a circle to show off his costume. "Look, I'm a skeleton! Now we can go get some candy!"
Russell walked up to them with his pirate outfit, "Stick with me, guys, I'll show you the ropes."
Grimlock and Tricerashot both wagged their tails and followed Russell.
The night proved fun as the many houses they went to provided bags full of chocolate and candy alike. Grimlock made sure to watch Tricerashot to make sure he was happy and sure enough, the Minicon was having a blast, even getting a few compliments from passing children who loved his dragon wings.
To see Tricerashot finally becoming less stubborn and more out of his shell made Grimlock proud he could help a fellow Dinobot out. He liked the Minicon's company, especially as he understood him better than the others being of a different mold to the average Cybertronian.
When they got back to the junkyard, Tricerashot happily moved his fake wings in contentment, not before lifting his bag of candy by the base and pouring out the spoils. "And this is only one night's worth? Why can't Halloween be every night?"
Grimlock smiled, "If it was every night, we'd have to think up new costumes every day."
"If I can wear these wings every day, I wouldn't be complaining."
Tricerashot ate his first candy, a chocolate caramel truffle and the Minicon all but purred at the taste. It didn't take him long to go through a quarter of his bag to the surprise of his friends.
"You might want to save some for later. I heard kids get tummy aches if they eat too much candy," Grimlock said.
The Minicon shot him a look of disbelief before pausing. His fuel tank made an odd noise as Russell backed away from him. His optic twitched as he quickly held onto his belly, the noise continuing to grow. "Wh-what's that?"
"Indigestion," Russell answered.
Tricerashot's cheek armor puffed out and he gave a loud burp, enough to jolt him upright to a hover and his wings gave illusion of flapping. He plopped down on his rear in startlement before glancing at Grimlock who stared back concerned. After a moment of awkward silence, all three burst out laughing.
"Nice one, Cera!" Grimlock choked out.
The Minicon blushed, coughing out of embarrassment but still amused by his own antics. Seeing Grimlock giving a genuine laugh certainly was the highlight of it.
After sorting through the remainder, Tricerashot merged his candy with Grimlock's and they stashed it under an old Chevy truck frame within the junkyard so no one would take it. He sat on the larger mech's lap as they watched on a hill the orange and bright lights emitting from Crown City.
"Not bad for your first Halloween, bestie."
Tricerashot wagged his tail again, "I can't wait for the next holiday. I have to say, spending time with you has been I think one of the best moments in my life so far. I thank you for being here for me...after I've been nothing but a pawn before we met."
Grimlock held him close in a hug. "Of course, you're part of our family now. Families stick together, holidays and every other day. Candy is usually just a bonus."
"If there isn't candy in the next holiday, I riot."
"Russell says the next candy-inclusive holiday is Christmas, only one month and three weeks away," the Dinobot said, letting the Minicon rest against him.
"Yes!" Tricerashot cried out with a paw pump. Then he paused, "Wait, what's Christmas?"
