Disclaimer: Touhou Project was created by Jun'ya Ōta (ZUN). I don't own any of the Touhou characters used in this story.
Author's Note: I was actually planning to write different kind of story, but these past days, I was stricken with an inspiration to write Sakuya's origin story, as always, please let me know in reviews, if it was good or bad. Without further ado, enjoy the first chapter!
The Silver Blade
Year 1888, the last years of the Victorian Era. England had fair amount of problems during that period like poverty, political issues, plagues and a mysterious murderer dubbed by the public as the "Jack the Ripper," terrorizing the London. There however were other issues that you wouldn't really read about in the textbooks. These being mythical creatures like werewolves and vampires. Police would play dumb about reports of these creatures, they would pin it on the wild animals attacking people. The most obvious explanation being that they didn't want to get involved. The incompetency of law enforcement caused for a hidden society to rise, simply called "The Hunters." They would be the one to take care of these creatures. There was a girl in this society, she was well known in it for her effective manner of dealing with the creatures. As soon as she had her sight on them, they would be exterminated. However, except for her skills, nobody really known her personally, she didn't have any friends and was mostly cold to everyone, even if they displayed kindness to her. She hasn't even told anybody her name.
These last days, she has been approached by the fellow members of the society to investigate a mansion that reportedly had a vampire as the mistress. She knew about that mansion.
At first, it was thought as a regular mansion with an aristocratic family living in it, however, after a time, there were multiple reports of kidnappings where tracks would always end at the mansion grounds.
Officially, these kidnappings were reported to the police, and they haven't found anything that would directly charge the family. In reality, police didn't even bother to enter the mansion. They were scared.
The public soon after dubbed the mansion "Scarlet Devil Mansion." The reason being that the mansion was scarlet-colored and there was a "devil" living in it.
The society was also hesitant to do anything about the residents of the mansion at first. It was after all at another level than just hunting down a stray werewolf or vampire. However, these last days the kidnappings have become more numerous, and they couldn't ignore it anymore.
That's why they decided to ask for help of the most skilled member in the society. If anybody could do something about them, it was her.
The girl, of course, accepted the request. She never turned down any request concerning these creatures.
She spent half of the day preparing for the hunt, and decided to strike at the night.
Night, suburbs of the London.
The girl arrived at the location of the mansion. She was standing a bit of distance from the gate. The mansion from outside looked enormous. It was strange that such elegant mansion was placed at the suburbs than at the rich parts of the city.
She approached the gate, there was a woman standing guard there.
She had aqua-blue eyes and long, scarlet hair. Furthermore, she was wearing a green beret and dress of the same color. Her clothing didn't look like anything from the England, it looked more like something that came from the China.
-Halt! My lady isn't expecting any visitors today. Leave now.
-I presume that lady of yours would be a vampire?
The gatekeeper looked surprised.
-How did you kno-
She got interrupted by the huntress.
-Your mistress got sloppy. There are plenty of eyewitnesses and evidence pointing to her being the vampire. I have been sent to take care of her, so you better get out of my way, if you value your life.
The woman looked determined.
-If you wish to get to my lady, then you have to get past me first.
She took a fighting stance.
-Your choice.
The girl grabbed her silver knives and charged at the gatekeeper.
When she was close enough to strike, she suddenly got grappled and thrown away with ease.
She was bewildered at the speed that the woman grabbed her, she was definitely a very experienced martial artist. While the huntress was also good at close combat, she wasn't really close to being that skilled.
The girl quickly positioned herself midair to break the fall.
She unholstered a flintlock revolver and aimed at the woman.
It didn't matter if she was a master at martial arts. She hasn't met anybody yet, that could outsmart a bullet.
The girl fired her revolver, gunfire echoing through the suburbs.
The smoke coming out from the muzzle blinded her for a second, but when it cleared out, she saw the impossible.
The gatekeeper was holding the bullet between her fingers, looking completely unfazed.
What the hell? How she could catch that bullet like it's nothing? It's obvious that she wasn't just a normal person.
But then again, the huntress wasn't either.
She holstered her firearm and once again grabbed her knives, she charged at the woman.
When she was close enough to strike again, time slowed down for her. She could see everything in slow-motion, giving her greater reflexes.
The gatekeeper once again tried to grapple her, but this time the girl parried it with ease.
The huntress headbutted the woman, then when she was disoriented by the hit, she stabbed her in the gut with the knife.
The gatekeeper was bewildered, she couldn't understand what was happening, her attacker suddenly moved at such enormous speed that she couldn't keep up. She clumsily clutched her wound and wobbled around.
The girl decided to finish this battle by doing a roundhouse kick to the face of the woman.
This caused for the gatekeeper to completely lose her footing and collapse.
The huntress walked over to the unmoving body of the gatekeeper to finish her off.
She moved her knife to the woman's throat and was about to slit it, when she hesitated.
Her target was the vampire, not some random people. She had no reason to kill her.
The girl checked the pulse of the woman. She was still alive.
She moved the body over to the wall and took out the bandages from her satchel, and tended to her wound.
It wouldn't save her, but could buy her enough time for her to get a proper medical attention.
The girl switched her attention from the woman to the mansion. There was nobody stopping her now.
She opened the gate and headed straight for the entrance.
The huntress entered the mansion and looked around.
The interior was elegant and stylish, surely enough the mistress of this mansion was extremely rich to afford all of this.
But she wasn't here to admire the sight, she had to find out where is the vampire's room.
