Disclaimer: I do not own The Owl House or any of its characters. The "Flufftober 2021" prompt list is by Flufftober2021 of Tumblr. Along with a dozen other themes in the OH, I've been dying to write some good Hunter and Luz fluff. Checking another off the list!
*A reminder that my Spanish is not the best. I do what I can to properly portray Luz's bilingual side, but mistakes might be made.
Show You a Whole New World
(Flufftober 2021 Day 24 – "Caught in the Rain")
"That's just… preposterous."
"Tu pobre, simple tonto… Amity would back me up on this."
Hunter rolled his eyes, huffing as he shoved his hands further into his hoodie jacket's pockets. "That means nothing. She's your girlfriend. Of course, she's going to say that Monster Slayer Academia is better than Towervania! I bet she doesn't even know what they are!"
Luz shook her head, clicking her tongue. "And that's where you're wrong, mi amigo. I've already shown her both animes."
Their footsteps echoed against the bare concrete strip. Rows of buildings, closed with the late hour of the night, glowed gold in the street lamps' lights. Thick clouds blocked the waxing moon overhead, and its light struggled to break through the cover.
A midnight walk was perfect for two teens that needed to clear their heads.
"Really," Hunter challenged, one side of his mouth curling higher than the other. "How long did she pay attention before she either fell asleep or went back to studying her textbooks?"
Luz paused, and a frustrated blush rose on her cheeks. "That's not important to this argument."
"So, Blight conked out halfway through the first episodes you tried to show her."
"She would still agree with me that Monster Slayer Academia is executed better than Towervania!" Luz argued. Her voice rose, and her walk went from walking straight ahead to side-stepping alongside the taller witch. "The characters have several consequences they have to face as they go through their character arcs, and overall, the show delivers more with the futuristic super-slayer powers than Towervania delivers on its medieval setting."
Hunter scoffed turning his head away from the girl beside him. "Just admit it, Noceda. You can't handle Towervania's intricate story and flawless worldbuilding imposing on your precious Monster Slayer-"
Before the boy could say another word, a series of low rumbles came from the thick cloud cover over their heads.
Terror immediately filled Hunter's face, and the witch froze in place, legs and arms outstretched as if to brace himself. "Luz… What's happening? Where's that growl coming from?"
Luz stopped walking, looking up to the sky as she turned to Hunter. "Oh? That? I think it just means we're…" Slowly, she lowered her head, grin wide enough to stretch from ear-to-ear. "Oh yeah… you haven't been here for a Human Realm rain."
Color drained out of Hunter's face. "Wait-wait-wait-wait," he spluttered, ducking and giving the sky above him a nervous look. "The rains don't boil in the Human Realm, but that's all I know! What do they do otherwise?! Acid drops?! Drops big enough to kill a person?!"
A few raindrops tickled Luz's cheek as another rumble came from the sky above.
Hunter just about lost it.
Pupils blew wide in magenta eyes. He plummeted to the ground, crouching into a hunched position. Hoodie-covered arms locked tight around the back of Hunter's bowed head. "I FELT SOMETHING ON MY CHEEK AM I GOING TO DIE?!"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, easy… easy…" Luz lowered the intensity of her smile, turning it from a mischievous one to something more comforting. Her finger pointed to the sky. "Nothing bad's gunna happen."
Rain dribbled down from the sky, lightly showering the two teens.
"See?" Luz said, stretching out her arms. "Harmless water."
A moment of calm passed before Hunter loosened the arms over his head. They fell, and rain began to dampen the blonde hair. He lifted from the crouch, slow and hesitant, and then stretched out his arms as Lus had done.
The rain, like the girl had said, didn't harm the boy.
Stuttering laughter, a bit crazed and full of relief, left Hunter's mouth. He looked up to the sky, closing his eyes and letting the rain blanket his body. The rain intensified, and Luz had to stop herself from laughing as Hunter whirled around, skipping ahead down the sidewalk.
"Luz! Luz! It's not boiling! I'm fine! I'M FINE!"
Luz rolled her eyes. "Yeah, you are, oh gran y valiente guerrero…"
The boy tore at his hoodie jacket, unzipping it and shrugging it to the ground. His bare arms waved around, and euphoric laughter echoed down the street. Even as Luz hurried to pick up the sweater he left behind, the boy was long-lost in his own world, manic with the stormy weather above.
"Oi, chico de la lluvia! Don't get too wet now, por favor!"
Hunter paused, freezing in place. "…Why do you say that?"
"Cause the rain can still get you sick even if it doesn't boil." Luz held out his jacket to him. "It's great and all, but it'd suck if you got a cold or a fever because you let cold rain bring you down."
A hum came from Hunter, and then the boy plucked the jacket from the girl's fingers. "I don't know what this cold sickness thing is," he started, shrugging on the sweater, "but if it's something that has you concerned for my safety…"
Luz shook her head, rolling her eyes skyward. "Tan dramático… Come on." She gestured for Hunter to follow her back the way they came. "We better get back to my house before the rain gets too heavy."
"Wait… it falls harder than this?"
And at that, the downpour from the sky fell down in thick sheets of water droplets.
Twin pairs of feet tore back down the path they came from as a clap of thunder roared out over their heads. Lightning came next, nearly blinding the two teens in their run. Wind howled and whistled, sweeping over the sleeping town square.
"You know, human, I think I'm just going to take your word for it!" Hunter called out, flipping his hood over his head.
Luz didn't hide the teasing grin on her face. "So! How do you like the human rains?!" she yelled. Her words were nearly lost to the next thunderclap.
"Thanks for showing me this! I kinda love it and hate it!"
Luz laughed, and the two of them skirted around a corner that led straight to Luz's house. "Yeah, that happens!"
"Think you can show me a quieter rain sometime?!"
As the human and witch raced down the street, Luz flashed Hunter a mischievous smile and a finger gun. "Oh, you bet I will! This ain't half of what we have in the Human Realm!"

Had a hard time figuring out how to end this, but aha! A "Hunter experiencing human rains" fic from me! I'll count that as a success.
Nonetheless, thank you all so much for reading and supporting! :D I'll see if I can make more Flufftober stories!
