The giggling filing through the cracked bedroom door was what brought him out of his slumber but it was the soft huff of warm air against his neck that got his eye popping open; half of his face smashed into his pillow. A sleepy smile graced his lips as his bed partner shifted to laying more on his own side with an arm thrown over his back instead of practically on top of his body. He received a sleepy smile right back.

"Morning." Eddie whispered to him; squeezing his side where his hand rested across his back.

"Morning." Buck sighed and closed his eye again. "What time is it?"

"Just after ten." Eddie replied as he scooted closer, tucking his chest against Buck's side.

Another giggle from down the hall sounded and Eddie rested his forehead against Buck's shoulder.

"I told him to try and keep it down so we could sleep in." He huffed. "Heated up some of those frozen French toast sticks and told him he could watch cartoons in the living room."

"When did Pepa bring him home?" Buck frowned. "And why didn't you wake me up to make breakfast?"

Eddie lifted his head and frowned back down at his boyfriend. "Buck we didn't get in until well after three this morning. You were dead to the world." He shifted and brought his lips down to Buck's shoulder. "Besides," He kissed his shoulder twice before lifting his head again to look down at the blond. "You didn't think I'd let you make us breakfast on your birthday, did you?"

Buck's smile widened and he chuckled softly. "I guess not."

As tired as he was, Buck was awake now and remembering everything that had happened the night before. Their crew had had the day off because they would be going in for the 24-hour shift later this afternoon. Because of this they had all gone out to a restaurant for Buck's birthday the evening before and ended up at a bar just before midnight to celebrate into the early hour of his day. Everyone had taken shots at the stroke of midnight and wished him 'Happy Birthday'. He had been so happy to be surrounded by his chosen family. Bobby and Athena had left shortly after midnight because Athena had an early start to her day. Hen and Karen were next a little after one, wanting to return home to Denny and their newest foster child; a six year old little girl names Tabitha, who had been placed with them the month before. Albert had ushered the drunks that were Maddie and Chimney out the door shortly after two; and that had left Buck and Eddie with Taylor. Buck vaguely remembered Taylor dropping them home just before four this morning.

"Of course not," Eddie finally leaned in and kissed him on the mouth. "As excited as he was to give you your present at the crack of dawn this morning, he promised to wait until we were actually awake and functioning."

"Well we're partly there." Buck groaned as he finally dislodged Eddie's arm around his back to roll onto his own side.

Eddie settled his hand on his waist once Buck had stopped moving; scooting closer once more so they were flush against one another. Buck closed his eyes and smiled as he wrapped his own arm over Eddie; splaying his hand on the other man's lower back. They laid their lazily making out for a few minutes before the sudden click clack of approaching crutches clued them in to what was about to occur. With a final kiss Eddie pulled away and rolled onto his back just as a little knock sounded on the door; pushing it open just a little more then it initially was.

"Dad? Buck?" Christopher's not so whispered voice called through the crack.

"Yeah, mijo." Eddie called back. "You can come in."

There was a clung as the metal from one of his crutches hit the wood of the door as Christopher pressed his hand into the door to push it open the rest of the way. Buck had propped himself up on his arm to peer over Eddie's form at the door; smiling brightly as Christopher came into view. The ten year old was still clad in his dinosaur pajamas and the moment he saw Buck was awake he squealed and moved as fast as his feet and crutches allowed to round the bed so he was on Buck's side. As he rounded the bed, Buck chuckled and rolled to reach out and pluck Christopher off the ground and settle him between himself and Eddie on the bed; the crutches clattering to the floor.

"Happy birthday, Bucky!" Christopher shouted as he wrapped his arms around Buck's neck as tight as he could.

Buck wrapped his own arm carefully around Christopher's back and tucked his head into the boy's shoulder. "Thank you, Superman. Did you have a good sleepover at Pepa's?"

Christopher nodded against his chest. "We watched Finding Nemo and Finding Dory, and I didn't fall asleep once!"

"What, no way!" Buck gasped as he pulled away to look down at the kid; tickling his side. "You fell asleep ten minutes into Dory when we tried that last week! And the week before!"

Christopher giggled and turned his body. "Dad, help!"

"Oh so I'm not invisible then." Eddie laughed as he rolled so he was hovering over his son. "I think you're on your own, mijo."

And then he was rolling back and out of bed to leave the room as Buck laughed and Christopher; still giggling; yelled after him. Eddie just smiled as he made his way towards the kitchen to start a pot of coffee and grab something to hold himself and Buck over until lunch in a few hours. They were suppose to be going to Abuela's to continue the celebration of Buck's 29th birthday where they would be leaving Christopher for the evening when they headed for work. Now that they were all vaccinated; though they still had to be careful; since his release from the hospital in late March three months ago; the five of them have tried to have a get-together at least once a month.

Eddie clicked on his coffee maker; thankfully not HILDY powered; and turned his attention to the fridge. He settled on some sandwiches; ham and cheese for himself; turkey and cheese for Christopher; and hard salami and cheese for Buck. By the time he had the sandwiches made and mugs of coffee for himself and Buck and a glass of juice for Christopher; his boyfriend and son were joining him in the kitchen. Buck was carrying Christopher in one hand and a gift bag in the other so he knew they had stopped in Christopher's room for Buck's present.

"Food first." Eddie sat their plates on the table before going back for their drinks; grabbing a bag of open chips off the counter as he went.

He was pretty sure after Taylor had dropped them off in the early hours of the morning he and Buck had found themselves in the kitchen downing glasses of water and munching on things from the snack cupboard; a cupboard he never had until Buck was suddenly living with them fulltime after Eddie had been shot. Not that he was complaining about either of those things; especially Buck living with them fulltime. They had only been together five months at that time but Eddie had already been thinking about asking the younger man to move in with them; it just happened in a semi-horrible fashion in the end. It hadn't been until a week before his lease was up at the end of April that Eddie told him he was home and he wasn't going anywhere else. Buck had just smiled and kissed him; calling his landlord the next day that he wouldn't be renewing his lease.

Buck gently plopped Christopher into his chair before setting down next to him; placing the gift bag on the floor between them. Eddie finally joined them; sitting on Christopher's other side much like they always did whenever and wherever they had meals together; Christopher always between them. Christopher chatted to them about what he and Pepa had done the night before, before their little movie marathon that he once again proudly stated he stayed awake for; then what they had had for breakfast before Pepa had brought him home around eight that morning because she needed to get to work.

Once lunch was over Eddie stacked their plates and pushed them to the side as Christopher started bouncing in his seat. Buck took that as his queue to pick the gift bag back up and place it in his lap.

"So we had to order this specifically for you and it just got here yesterday morning. Chris wanted it to say something special for you." Eddie told him as he grabbed the tissue paper at the top of the bag. "We thought we were going to have to wait to give it to you after today."

Buck chuckled as he pulled the tissue paper from the bag and looked inside. He instantly saw a what looked to be a travel mug for coffee. His smile grew as he peeked up at Eddie and then at Christopher. He had had to throw his last one out months ago when he had accidentally knocked it off the railing of the balcony at his apartment. It had broken in the four story fall into the parking lot below. He had been using an old one from Eddie that leaked from the lid when you tipped it since.

He reached into the bag and grabbed the cup; pulling it out and moving the bag back to the floor; grabbing the tissue paper off the table and stuffing it back into the bag. He looked down at the cup. It was black with splashes of mint green, lavender and orange; he understood the green his favorite color (he could blame Maddie for it; she was obsessed as a teenager and it bled into Buck's obsession) but it took him a minute to realise that the orange was Eddie's (outside of black; just so much black); and lavender was Christopher's (it was just a pretty shade!). He turned it in his hands until he saw words. Buck's eyes filled with tears as he read and reread the blocky letters that were highlighted in the rainbow and outlined in white.

#1 PAPA

Buck snapped his head up first to Eddie and opened his mouth to ask a question. Eddie just smiled and nodded before Buck could even ask. Buck swallowed and sniffed as he looked back down at the travel cup and read the words again. Then he was placing the cup on the table and scooping Christopher up into his arms and hugging him gently but also tightly.

"Do you like it?" Christopher wrapped his arms around Buck's shoulders as he asked.

"I love it, Superman." Buck kissed the side of his head. "It's the best present I've ever received."

Christopher leaned back as he settled in Buck's lap so he could look at him and smiled. "Dad said I had to ask you if it was okay to call you, Papa."

Buck made an undignified noise in the back of his throat and pulled the boy into another hug as he rested his chin on the top of Christopher's curls. "I'd be honored, kid."

"And on that note." Eddie cleared his throat and stood.

Buck looked over at him as Christopher wiggled in his lap so that his back was against Buck's chest; Buck wrapped his arms around the boy's middle and again settled his chin on his head. Eddie took their dishes to the sink before grabbing something from the top cupboard that had turned into their alcohol cupboard (another thing that had started because of Buck; but this one just a few months after their friendship had blossomed years ago). Buck instantly noticed it was two more travel cups.

"He refused to not have us have the same thing and make me wait until my birthday in September," Eddie chuckled as he returned to the table; taking Christopher now vacant chair. "So I decided he needed one too."

He handed the cups to Buck so he could look it over. The colors of the cups were the exact same as his own with the black and splashes of colors. Eddie's read '#1 DAD' while Christopher's read '#1 SON'. Buck nodded and sat the cups down next to his own before once again squeezing Christopher to him.

"Those are amazing." Buck reached for the front of Eddie's shirt and pulled in forward; sighing as their lips touched.

As a family they went to Abuela's for lunch around one and stayed until they head to head to work just before five; saying goodbye to Christopher for the night. Eddie had packed their travel cups for Pepa and Abuela to see; and Abuela had made a pot of coffee that Eddie poured into his and Buck's to take to work for them; knowing Buck was going to want to show them off to their team. With final hugs and kisses all around Eddie ushered Buck out the door and to the truck.

When they reached work it was to find the crew gathered in the loft that was decorated with streamers and balloons and a cake made by Bobby that morning. They hadn't had cake the night before because Eddie knew they were going to be doing this at work; making sure they had time between B Shift leaving and their actual shift starting. As predicted Buck showed off his new travel cup proudly and more tears and hugs were shared as he announced that Christopher asked to call him 'papa' that morning.

And then they sat down to eat cake before the bell rang and they had to get to work.
