KNIGHTS OF FAVONIUS
Since I've decided what's gonna happen, let's just say mona disappeared forever after that. This is a while later.
The wind storms were getting worse. They had always been getting worse, but nobody had noticed in the beginning. Lutsen hadn't either, he had been distracted by his obsession with Venti. It had panned out to nothing, and wasted his time. The astrologist was gone, she left last year. They could have used her. Her speed would have been essential in evacuations. But instead she had left, making grand claims about finding the mythical 'City of Stars'. The Knights had let her go, and now they regretted not asking her to stay and help with damage control.
Acting Grandmaster Jean had spoken to Lutsen about reaching out to Liyue. His position as Captain of Foreign Relations made him ideal for negotiations and trading. He had risen in the ranks these past three years, Jean trusted him to make important decisions in her name now. Once such decision was whether or not to trust Liyue's help in subduing Dvalin. They were unsure if Liyue's people would be willing to stop before killing the dragon.
Lutsen had ultimately decided against asking for help from Liyue. With the Fatui here offering assistance, if the Knights went anywhere else for help it would be bad for their relations with the Snezhnayan organization. Though it wasn't like the two countries were on friendly terms. Things had only gotten worse since the Knights had refused help from them. They did not want Dvalin dead, simply cured. And even if the Fatui were willing to provide non-lethal help, relying on another government would never be the ideal solution. Mondstadt had always been self sufficient, they would do their level best to stay that way. So Mondstadt had denied all assistance offered and refrained from reaching out for help.
Lutsen had informed Jean of his decision yesterday, and she had called a meeting with the captains today to talk about their options regarding the dragon. Lutsen, though this was not his area of expertise, had also been invited. Jean always liked to get as many opinions as she could. It was a well respected method in the Knights, and all of Mondstadt really. Everything about Jean was loved all around Mondstadt. Though not quite as much as Barbara, the Idol.
The captains of the Knight of Favonius were gathered in the Grandmaster's office. It had been a while since a meeting of this size in the Knights had occurred. Master Jean normally just called in the captain she knew would work best in each situation. Grandmaster Varka however, had used almost every captain for every problem that had arisen before going off on his adventure. The new efficiency Jean used was a god send to the captains. While Lutsen had not been in the Knights during this time, he had heard many stories from his fellow captains. He would never wish such an unorganized man on anybody.
Jean stepped into the room and any conversation was silenced. Everybody respected Jean and did their best to make things easy for her. They all knew how much overtime she worked, especially with Dvalin causing chaos in Mondstadt. It was the least they could do to give Jean attention when she walked in the room. She walked over to lean against her desk and began speaking.
"Thanks for coming, everyone. You all know this meeting is about Stormterror, who was formerly known as Dvalin. More specifically, this meeting is about what we are going to do in order to deal with the threat. While none of us wish to kill, we must be ready to apply lethal force if it becomes unavoidable. Before we brainstorm ways to kill a dragon blessed by the Anemo Archon, any ideas from you all on how to subdue one?"
Jean went on to listen to each captain's idea of what to do. When each was finished she drew up a plan. As she explained to each captain what their role would be in the subduing of Stormterror, a young woman in a white dress came barging in. She spared not a look for anyone but Captain Kaeya and Jean.
The woman bobbed into a short curtsey and addressed the Acting Grandmaster.
"The Stormterror threat has been quelled. Captain Kaeya, I thank you for the use of your drinking buddy and your brother, the Winery Owner. They were most helpful. Good day to you all."
She turned and walked toward the door, leaving the room in a rather stunned silence. That is, until Jean turned to Kaeya with a look that could melt Cor Lapis.
"Cavalry Captain Kaeya Ragnivindr, I trust you will explain to us what that was all about? Immediately and without delay?"
Kaeya blanched. It was rare that Jean pulled out full titles, often addressing her captains with familiarity. The added use of his last name showed just how angry she was.
"Wow full name. I'm really in for it this time aren't I. That was Miss Lumine. I requested that she come here to help us deal with Dvalin. Unfortunately she had to deal with some things at home before she arrived. Hence why she hasn't fixed it up earlier. She arrived in Mondstadt a few days ago. I'm not sure why she needed Venti and Diluc, but everything worked out so I don't see a problem."
He shrugged at the end. Jean closed her eyes and let out a long suffering sigh. Lutsen knew she was used to this behavior from Kaeya. He normally acted without telling anyone. And his plans were always quite strange.
"Okay, Kaeya, next time maybe tell the rest of us you have an idea. It would negate the necessity for meeting of this kind. After all, we all have work to do. The new knights are in desperate need of supervision, you all know that. Also, how do you know this Lumine is not a threat? She may have plans beyond what you hired her for Kaeya."
Kaeya grinned, it was obvious he had expected the question. Nobody else could be so calm in the face of danger. And Jean was the highest danger there was in Mondstadt.
"Well, Acting Grandmaster. I know that she is not a threat because Miss Lumine is from the very same place I am. And the history in our wonderful home is exactly the opposite of threatening to Mondstadt. My people have helped this place so much it wouldn't be standing without them."
There it was. The most well kept secret in Mondstadt. The fact that Kaeya and Master Diluc were not related by blood. Only the captains and a few elect other people knew. And that was only because, in a rare blunder, Kaeya had spoken about his home as if it were not the city they all loved.
He had managed to keep the name of the place secret though.
