Chapter 8

Abydos

SG-1 emerged from the event horizon followed by Tony, Steve, Peggy, Thor and Clint. Loki was instructed to stay behind due to a lack of trust and Natasha was yet to be trained for combat.

Thor had donned the SGC battle dress uniform and carried a rifle. He wasn't sure if he could even command the lightning in the new universe and figured the Asgard were so different none would recognize him as a prince and warrior. Thor felt as lost as Tony upon losing his home. His family now consisted of an adopted brother he did not trust and the remains of the Avengers. Earth was now his home and didn't matter which version of Earth he was currently in. He looked at his comrades upon stepping foot on Abydos.

Steve Rodgers stood with his shield in hand and full SGC combat gear. He too wore the battle dress uniform with a patch that said SG-A as General Hammond decided to place the Avengers as a team separate of the standard teams. He looked to his wife, Peggy who stood beside him in full gear and a bit taken by her first trip through the event horizon.

Peggy admitted, "That was a rush."

Sam assured her, "You get used to it."

"I know I will." she agreed a bit depressed.

Sam had yet to be informed that Peggy was her aunt in the other reality. She didn't have the same connection that Peggy was burdened with. When Sam's mother died in the Avenger's reality it was Steve and Peggy who opened their home and hearts to her. Peggy became a surrogate mother for Sam in that world but in this brave new world, Peggy was a stranger to Sam and that ate at her heart.

Sam assumed Peggy was simply unsure of Gate travel and gave a warm smile, "It gets better."

"I hope so." Peggy replied referring to her non existing relationship with her niece.

Clint Barton wasn't phased much by the rush. He didn't understand the banter between Peggy and Sam. He mentioned, "It wasn't that bad for me."

Steve miffed, "That's not what's bothering her." He walked away without revealing anything more.

Clint stood a bit baffled as to what could be bothering Peggy. He never met the older lady before and was only told she came over with the Avengers. Clint began to walk. He found himself walking near Jack soon. "Sir," Clint began.

"Barton." Jack replied.

"Can I ask why I don't have a SG-1 patch?" he wondered. "I was never in the other reality. Why give me that patch?"

"What patch you want?" he asked nearly amused.

"SG-1!" he stated.

Tony overheard as he walked behind. He huffed, "I wanted SG-1 too!"

Jack came to a halt and looked at the pair, "What? Does everyone want SG-1?"

Steve stopped as well and stated, "I don't! I like my patch. Star Gate Avengers has a nice ring to it."

The group all paused for a moment outside the village. Daniel admitted, "Star Gate Avengers does have a nice ring to it."

Sam disagreed, "I like Star Gate One." She looked to Teal'c for his input. "What you think, Teal'c? Which sounds better?"

The Jaffa replied, "The Jedi." He then continued to make his way towards the village.

Steve figured, "Star Wars fan."

Sam grinned, "Yup." She started to march behind Teal'c.

Peggy stood back a bit and spoke to her husband. "Just wish she knew."

"Maybe she will in time. Let her get to know us." he soothed.

Jack cocked an eyebrow. "Know us?" he asked the pair.

Daniel explained, "Peggy is Jacob's big sister in their reality. She's Sam's aunt."

"Ah," he replied a bit surprised.

He patted Jack's shoulder, "Didn't you see the resemblance."

"Between Peggy and Sam?" he asked.

"Between Peggy and Jacob." he mentioned and then continued.

Jack stood looking at the pair. He mentioned, "Jacob is coming to base today. I didn't know he had a sister."

Peggy replied, "Apparently he doesn't in this reality."

"Does she know?" Jack wondered if Sam knew.

She shook her head, "I'm a stranger to her here."

Jack figured, "We will fix that." He then marched forward wondering how to tell Sam that Peggy is in fact her aunt from another reality.

Peggy and Steve watched as the rest of the group move towards the village. Steve pondered, "She married the Colonel in another reality, huh?" he pondered the relationship.

Peggy replied, "She should marry Daniel. He's closer to her age and is handsome, smart and so sweet." For Peggy saw a lot of Steve's qualities in Daniel.

Steve stated, "I kind of like Jack."

"He's too old for her." she dismissed the idea.

"Least it's not Rodney." Steve mentioned.

Peggy shook her head, "I told her not to go on that date with him. I knew she would have a miserable time."

The pair started to walk towards the village as they pondered who would make a good match for their niece.

Village

Skaara and the others spied SG-1 walking towards them. They boys of the village ran to SG-1 to greet their friends. It was a sight to see as the youngsters all gathered around the team and welcomed them like heroes. The boys all had rifles and military gear to protect the village. The Avengers noticed the arms as well as the warm welcome.

Skaara greeted Jack and Daniel like family. He grinned before them, "Brothers!" he greeted the pair.

Jack gave a warm smile, "How are things, Skaara?"

"Quiet." he reported. "You have come to visit?" He hoped they were their to just visit but knew it was unlikely.

Daniel started, "You have a stone here. We need to retrieve it before Thanos does."

Skaara stated, "We have heard of Thanos. He is gathering a large military."

"And will come here is figures out you guys have a stone." Jack told him.

Skaara assured, "We will fight him."

Tony shook his head, "He will crush you like a bug kid. You kids are no match for Thanos."

"We have Jack and Daniel." he rebutted. "We stopped Ra with their help."

Jack stated, "This is bigger than Ra."

The boys all became alarmed.

Steve suggested, "Let's get the stone and relocate the village. Put a fake stone there and…" he looked to his friends, "Set a trap."

Jack grinned, "I like the way you think, Captain."

Daniel stated, "First we need to get the stone and secure it." He looked to Skaara, "We need to see Ra's chamber."

"This way." Skaara motioned for them to follow.

SGC

Jacob Carter waited for his daughter to arrive back from the mission off world. He sat in General Hammond's office as George debriefed him and Selmak on the Avengers.

Jacob started to flip through the files that George had started on each new arrival. His gasped, "This man is Thor?!"

George smiled, "Indeed he is." He sat back in his chair, "He's not like our Thor but he has donated a blood sample that we have gotten to the Asgard. We're hoping our Asgard can be saved with his blood."

"That would amazing if he can save them." Jacob agreed. He flipped open the next file. He paused as he spied Peggy Carter's face. He blinked and sucked in his breath.

"Jacob?" Hammond asked.

"My sister." he informed. "Peggy!"

George asked, "You have a sister?"

"Had one." he nodded. "She died when I was a teenage. It was a car accident." He asked, "She's alive in the other reality?"

"She is!" Hammond confirmed. He then figured, "If Peggy Carter is your sister then that would make Sam her niece."

"It would." Jacob agreed. He asked, "Do you think she knows?"

Hammond slowly began to nod as he recalled how Peggy was asking Sam if she had an aunt. He agreed, "I think she does but not Sam."

"When will they be back?" Jacob asked. "I can't wait to see her again." He admitted, "I wish my kids had gotten to know her. She would have relished in being an aunt. Sam would have just adored her. She was a WAC in the war."

"They will be back soon." he assured him. "Jack and I were both wondering if Peggy Carter was related to you and Sam. I guess we have our answer. Her husband is Captain Steve Rogers." He handed Jacob the next file.

Jacob flipped open the file and gasped, "Holy! Peggy married some big brawny guy! She was like Sam…a real bookworm. I figured she would marry another bookworm."

"Captain Rogers is very intelligent." Hammond replied.

"My long dead sister from another reality came here with her husband and is off world with Sammy right now." he shook his head in disbelief.

"Yes they are." Hammond confirmed.

Abydos

Steve Rogers shined the flashlight around as he followed his friends into the chambers. It was much like a chamber from Egypt and for a moment he felt more like an explorer on Egyptian dig than an Avenger. A grin crept across his face as his excitement grew. He rather enjoyed the explorer aspect of mission. Tony noticed the grin on Steve's face as he shined his flashlight about. He smirked, "You seem happy, Cap."

He admitted, "I always wanted to explore old ruins like this. It's like I just stepped into an Egyptian dig."

Tony smirked, "Trade in your shield for a fedora and a bull whip."

Steve understood the movie reference, "Funny." he miffed.

Sam asked, "You have Raiders of the Lost Ark too?"

Tony grinned, "We had Raiders, The Temple of Doom, The Last Crusade, The Crystal Skull and they are working a 5th movie."

Daniel let out a heavy sigh, "They actually made five of those movies." he rolled his eyes annoyed. He started to look for the stone.

Jack asked Tony, "Five Indiana Jones movies?"

He nodded with a shrug. He found Daniel was already looking at the infinity stone along with Sam who was taking readings with a portable scanner. Sam reported, "I'm picking up an array of radiation. Very unusual." She looked about, "I think it's sitting in some kind of containment."

Daniel agreed, "Some of these glyphs are Ancient. Looks like Ra had them scribed over…" he pondered the wall with the red stone before him.

Steve and Tony traded glances for they recognized the stone and the power associated. Steve stated, "The reality stone."

Jack asked, "Reality?"

Daniel nodded, "Yes! Reality, Jack. The stones all different colors and each has a power associated with it. Red is for reality, allows the user to change their reality."

Jack asked, "You read about that?"

He shook his head, "Steve and Peggy told me. They know more about the stones than we do, Jack. You cannot touch the stone unless you earn it or you are part celestial." He glanced back, "That was your friend, Peter…right."

Steve nodded, "Peter Quill. His father was a celestial being and not a very nice guy from what I understand."

Sam suggested, "Let's see if we can remove it and place it in the lead containment box." She removed a tool bag and a small heavy box.

Jack stated, "Careful Carter."

"Yes sir," she replied focused on her work.

Steve warned her, "Whatever you do, do not touch with your bare hands, Sammy." He slipped and called her by her childhood name.

She chuckled, "My dad calls me that." As they pried the stone out of the wall it fell and Sam wasn't fast enough to catch it in the lead box.

Daniel instinctively caught the stone in his hands. He assumed the stone would burn but it had no effect on him. He stood holding the stone in his hands.

Everyone paused and gasped.

Thor cocked his head, "He can touch the stone. He should not be able to touch the stone."

Daniel slowly placed the stone in the led box that Sam held. He didn't have an answer. "I don't know." he admitted.

Thor stated, "You must be a celestial to hold the stone. The only ones who can take power of the stones is a celestial. He must be akin to Peter Quill."

Sam suggested, "Let's run some test before we jump to any conclusions. Now, we got the stone…let's get back."
