As we were approaching the Dragon Empery Dorms my partner said, "It seems so peaceful."
"We live a rather simple life here, it's rather quiet." Well, that illusion was broken fast, as soon as we opened the doors, it was pure mayhem.
"NOOOOOO! I DON'T WANT TO BE EATEN~"
"Ning Hai, why do you get the head, I want the head!"
"You've got the arms Ping Hai, they're pretty good too."
"Hehehe"
"Would you three stop already, Yat-sen will be back any m…oh…ment…" The chaos before us stopped, in front of us was the weirdest scene I could have possibly see, perhaps ever. Tai Yuan was barely standing, trying her best to curl into a ball, Ping Hai had jumped onto her arm and was hugging it with her whole body, Ning Hai was sitting on Tai Yuan's shoulders busy trying to nibble her head, An Shan was on Tai Yuan's back, her arms around Ning Hai trying to pry her off, and Chang Chun was gleefully filming the whole incident, and then to top it all off Fu Shun rushed in from one of the rooms, jumped onto An Shan's back yelling,
"DOGPILE!" Before her weight caused the majority of the Dragon Empery to fall onto the floor in front of us.
"(Okay then.)" I mumbled; my partner however was lost for words.
"That was fun, we should do it again sometime!" Fu Shun yelled, still holding onto An Shan's back, the said girl rising to her feet.
"I apologise Yat-sen, get off Fu Shun! I went outside for some fresh air, no soon as I was out the door then utter chaos ensued, I apologise."
Yat-sen however still had that small, elegant smile on her face, yep that meant trouble, she was one of those girls that had a soft exterior but wouldn't hold back if someone had upset them. "That's quite alright An Shan, why don't you help Tai Yuan back to her bed and explain everything to these helpful detectives here?" An Shan nodded before she took Tai Yuan by the hand and lead the way followed by myself, and my partner, and Fu Shun? The red-haired girl nearly fell backwards onto the floor as she was trying to leave, the cause of it, Yat-sen gripping one of her twin tails very tightly. "And where do you think you're going?"
"Well I figured that you didn't need me here, so I thought-"
"You're staying here."
"Why, I didn't do anything!"
After 'locking' Tai Yuan in her room, with a wedge under the door I might add, An Shan proceeded to guide us towards the Dragon Empery supply stores, all the while we asked her a lot of questions. "When did this start?" I asked.
"Not long after your New Year."
"Are you sure this isn't just an administrative mistake?" Myoukou asked.
"No, we even ordered more supplies on account of the two new arrivals."
"Where are these new arrivals?" my partner asked.
"They are, as we speak currently attending class." So a waterproof alibi then. We arrived in front of the stores, when An Shan opened the door it was a bit of a let down to be honest, the entirety of their stores was about the size of a cupboard, not only that but there was probably less food in there than mother Hubbards, not even a bone for the poor doggy, it has got to be one of the smallest larders I have ever seen. I brushed my hands against the walls of the 'storeroom', trying to find any loose planks of wood that someone could hide behind, no such luck.
"Yat-sen said that you were disappointed with the outcome of the Royal Knight's investigation, if you don't mind what was their opinion?" I asked.
"At first they believed that one of us had been secretly eating the contents of the storeroom during the night, but in the end, they concluded that it had been eaten by a mouse."
"A mouse?" Myoukou asked.
"And what proof did the Royal Knights find to lead to this conclusion?" An Shan pointed towards the floor, where in the side of the wall was a small hole.
"That is highly unlikely." An Shan said, "Mice and Rats are always a big problem for us when it comes to food, so we do our best to eliminated them before it gets out of hand, and sometimes we even use them to fill the storeroom."
"YOU EAT THEM?" Myoukou screamed.
"Of course not, that was a joke, it doesn't get that desperate." An Shan laughed, yeah nice try, An Shan may have been laughing, but from the look in her eyes, that was probably a common occurrence. As I turned my attention back to the walls An Shan hesitantly asked a question. "Um… I'm not sure if Yat-sen told you this… but… our finances are not quite the best at the moment… so I was wondering… if you could-"
"We usually charge a base rate, although in exceptional circumstances we can let our clients set their price, you'll have to ask for Hornet's permission though." I said.
"Oh! Okay then… thank you."
"Alright then you can leave us alone now." An Shan gave a quick bow before heading off back down the hallway.
"S-she was joking right?" I ignored Myoukou's questions and focused on the mousehole in front of me, before putting my finger in the hole and wiggling it about. "What do you think you're doing!" Myoukou asked, "What if there's a rat in there or something?"
"Don't worry there isn't." I reassured her. I could feel something with my finger, so I dragged it out, it was small, light brown in colour almost like crumbs, to confirm this I put it in my mouth.
"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING INDIANAOPLS?" Myoukou yelled, I ignored her again and spat the thing from out of my mouth, it was dry and rough. There was obviously no rat resting in the mousehole, which would have been obvious to the Royal Knights if they had decided to take their time to analyse the hole properly. I got up off my knees and said,
"I'm going to need the advice of a culinary expert, but first, I need to collect something from Akashi's shop."
