Ke'Anna: Not really. I'm 16, pregnant, and jobless. Are you guys possibly hiring? I could really use a job.

Jordan: I can speak to the owner and see if there are any openings.

Jordan returns to the counter. Ke'Anna receives a phone call.

Ke'Anna: This is Ke'Anna…I would love to interview for the position.

Ke'Anna grabs her things and quickly exits out the Dot.

OPENING CREDITS

Scene 2: Degrassi (Main Foyer/Hallway). Morning

Alicia and Shay enter Degrassi, making their way down the hall.

Alicia: I can't believe this is our final semester as Degrassi.

Shay: It feels like just yesterday we were in Mr. Wright's class working on that project that changed my life.

Alicia: Not just yours. I always knew we were going to be close. I can't believe just how far we've come.

They make it to the lockers, where Jack and Red approach them. Shay begins to place her books into the locker. Meanwhile, Red greets Alicia with a kiss.

Jack: What were you ladies just talking about?

Alicia: These are our last few weeks here. After graduation, everything can change, and I don't think I'm ready for that.

Red smiles as he places his arms around Alicia's shoulder.

Red: You can't think about that. Our primary focus should be enjoying this time together.

Shay: He's right. We still have a few weeks before graduation.

Shay closes her locker shut. The group begins to make their way down the hall.

Emma (over the P.A System): Shay Myers, can you please come to the principal office.

Shay stops in her track in confusion. She turns to Jack, but he shrugs his shoulder, also confused by the announcement.

Scene 3: Degrassi (Classroom). Afternoon

Jaylin is walking through the aisle of desks handing students back their papers. In the class, we see Isaiah, Marcel, and Isabella. Finally, the bell begins to ring.

Mr. Wright: Please remember to do your assigned reading. That goes especially for you, Mr. Powers. Then, I want everyone to write an analysis for the next class.

Students begin to gather their belongings. Isabella spots Manny waiting outside in the hall, which brings a smile across her face.

Isabella: I will see you guys in the cafeteria.

Isabella races into Manny's arms as he spins her around before planting a kiss on her, surprising Marcel watching in the classroom.

Marcel (baffled): When did that even happen?

Mr. Wright: Hey, Mr. Luke, can you stay back for a minute.

Isaiah looks to Marcel.

Marcel: I'll save you a seat.

Marcel quickly exits the room bumping into Lily.

Lily: Please watch where you're going, Niner.

Jaylin leans against his desk.

Mr. Wright: I spoke to Lily already, but I'm the new faculty advisor for the Drama Department. We're looking to put on a Spring Show. Lily is directing, but I also want you to direct as well, Isaiah.

Lily (bothered): You got to be kidding. You really want some niner running the school play.

Isaiah (nervously): Maybe she's right, Mr. Wright. I'm no director.

Lily: Of course, I'm right.

Mr. Wright: It's already decided. I want you two to come up with a proposed show then present it to me by the end of the week.

Lily groans as she storms out of the classroom.

Isaiah: Are you sure I should be doing this, Mr. Wright. Don't get me wrong. It's a great opportunity, but

Mr. Wright: There are no buts. You have a lot to bring to the table.

Isaiah nods as he adjusts his bookbag and proceeds to exit.

Scene 4: Degrassi (Principal's Office). Morning

Shay knocks on the door as she enters Emma's office.

Shay: Principal Nelson? Did you want to see me?

Emma gestures for Shay to have a seat.

Emma: I've been reviewing your file. Your grades have been steadily improving.

Shay: Thank you. I've been working hard to make up for when I got expelled. I don't think I ever said thank you for giving me another opportunity.

Emma was very torn and couldn't bring herself to relay this news. Shay tried to brace herself. She could see the look on Emma's face. There was bad news coming.

Emma (taking a deep breath): I admire your work ethic, Shay. However, you missed a lot of days from the last term. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you will not be graduating with the rest of your class come this spring.

Shay's world shattered.

Emma: I know this might be a lot to take in, but I'm confident that you will remain on the right track and graduate next year.

Shay: Is it okay if I leave?

Emma nods her head as Shay grabs her things, leaving the office.

Scene 5: Outside Degrassi (Picnic Table). Afternoon

Carina and Marcel are seated at the picnic tables across the street from the school. Manny escorts Isabella to the tables.

Isabella: You're not joining us?

Manny burst into laughter.

Manny: Listen, it's social suicide to be seen with Niners at lunch.

Isabella becomes upset, taking her seat at the table. Manny kisses her on the cheek before heading back into the school.

Carina: You never told me that you and Manny are official together.

Isabella: I just didn't want to jinx things. We're taking it slow.

Isaiah exits the school beside Lily. Isabella notices the two of them talking, which takes her by surprise. Isaiah takes a seat at their table across from Carina. He exchanges an awkward greeting with her. Things were clearly still tense between the two.

Marcel: Hey. What did Mr. Wright want after class?

Isabella: And what's going on with you and Lily. You do know that she's literally the worst person at this school.

Isaiah: Mr. Wright asked me to co-direct the school play, which means I have to work with the other director, Lily.

Carina: Did you guys decide which play?

Isaiah: Not yet. We're supposed to be meeting after school at the Dot.

Marcel: Just as a warning, I would bring some garlic and a wooden stake.

Isaiah: You should stay away from all the YA novels.

The table burst into laughter.

Scene 6: Play Thyme Arcade. Afternoon

Ke'Anna races into the arcade in a panic, dropping things along the way as she bypasses all the arcade goers. Finally, she approaches the ticket counter.

Ke'Anna (winded): Hello. I'm looking for Mr. Chopra. I was scheduled for an interview today.

Matthew turns around to see Ke'Anna standing there. He takes out one of his headphones.

Matthew (unconcerned): Did you say something?

Ke'Anna becomes frustrated. She begins to groan in pain. Finally, Matthew comes from behind the counter, notices just how pregnant Ke'Anna is, and becomes concerned.

Matthew: Woah! You're very pregnant.

Ke'Anna (agonizingly): Thanks!

Matthew helps Ke'Anna to a nearby bench. Ke'Anna begins to take deep breaths as she slowly begins to calm herself down.

Matthew: I'll grab you some water.

Matthew runs back behind the counter and into the back room. He comes back with a bottle of water, handing it off to Ke'Anna.

Ke'Anna (calmly): I'm looking for Mr. Chopra. I had an interview. I know I'm late, but please tell me that he's still here.

Matthew: Sorry, but he left like an hour ago.

Ke'Anna becomes overwhelmed.

Scene 7: Scott's House (Front Porch). Afternoon

Jack, Red, Alicia, and Shay are sitting on Alicia's porch enjoying each other company beside Shay, who is in deep thought. Alicia takes a seat on the steps beside her friend.

Alicia (concerned): You alright, Shay? You've been like this ever since your conversation with Mrs. Mason.

Shay looks at her friends and puts on a smile. Then, she rises from the stairs and makes her way towards the door.

Shay: I think we need some snacks. Does anybody want anything from the kitchen?

Alicia doesn't buy Shay's façade. Red looks at his watch then raise from the chair.

Red: I should get going. I'm watching Kasey.

Jack: I better get going as well. Duty calls at the Dot.

Red and Jack walk off the porch. Red proceeds to kiss Alicia before walking off with Jack. Alicia turns to Shay, who is avoiding eye contact.

Alicia: I know something happened, so please talk to me.

Shay (frustrated): I'm not graduating! Are you happy now?

Shay storms off the porch.

Scene 8: The Dot. Afternoon

The Dot is crowded with young students congregating. Both Spinner and Jordan are working the counter, trying to help the abundance of customers. Lily can be seen in the crowd snapping her fingers at Jordan.

Lily: I ordered my americano 20 minutes ago.

Jordan grabs an empty cup and begins to make a drink. He slams it down in front of Lily.

Jordan (irately): There's your americano.

Lily takes a sip from the cup.

Lily (innocently): Perfect!

Lily takes her drink and takes a seat at the booth in front of Isaiah. Isaiah begins to rustle through papers.

Isaiah: I found a few plays that I think would allow for us to do something creatively.

Lily: No. I have already decided on Romeo and Juliet. And of course, I will play the leading lady. So this was a good team meeting.

Isaiah: Doing Romeo and Juliet would be such a cliché! What high school hasn't performed a version.

Lily: Exactly. It's a classic. I'm the director, therefore what I say goes.

Lily takes her drink and grabs her things as she leaves. Isaiah shuts his notes as he feels unheard.

Scene 9: Degrassi (Main Foyer). Morning

Ke'Anna is on the steps in the main foyer of Degrassi. Matthew and Madison enter the school. As they walk the hall, Matthew notices her looking stressed.

Matthew: I'll catch up with you later.

Madison continues to walk down the hall. Matthew turns around and begins to approach Ke'Anna. He notices her phone, which is playing one of his favorite artists.

Matthew (surprised): You listen to Story Untold?

Ke'Anna: Who wouldn't? They're a solid band.

He takes a seat next to her.

Matthew: How's the job search going?

Ke'Anna: To be honest, it's been rough.

Matthew: If you don't mind me asking. Where's the baby's father? Shouldn't he be helping? You shouldn't be trying to work while you're pregnant.

Ke'Anna tries not to get emotional by the question. However, Matthew can see that he hit a nerve.

Matthew: I'm sorry if I offended you in any way.

Ke'Anna: No. No, you didn't offend me. It's just that Brandon, my baby's father, he's dead. He died four months ago.

Matthew: When I first got to Degrassi, I heard about someone dying. I'm sorry for your loss.

Ke'Anna: I'll be fine. It's just my baby will never know their father. My mom is already working two jobs to support us, and now I need to find a way to support him or her.

Matthew: I can talk to Mr. Chopra about letting you have another interview.

Ke'Anna jumps to hug Matthew.

Ke'Anna: Thank you so much.

Matthew: I'm just trying to help. We can't have you stressing not after the other day.

Ke'Anna: I should also thank you for that. You're really a great guy.

Ke'Anna makes her exit as the bell starts to ring. Matthew watches as she leaves with a smile. He couldn't put his finger on it, but something about Ke'Anna peaked his entrance.

Scene 10: Degrassi (Classroom). Morning

Students begin to file into the classroom where Mr. Wright is writing on the board. Isaiah enters the classroom.

Isaiah: Hey, Mr. Wright. Can I talk to you about the play?

Jaylin turns around, nodding his head.

Jaylin: Did you and Lily come up with some ideas?

Isaiah is deep in thought.

Scene 11: Degrassi (Student Council Office). Afternoon

Alicia is in the front of the room, leading the student council meeting.

Alicia: Can we have the committee reports?

Harriet rises and approaches the front of the group.

Harriet: Since prom is approaching, the social committee has started taking suggestions for a theme for the dance. We are also finalizing the budget with Mrs. Nelson-Mason for entertainment.

Harriet returns to her seat next to Amina. Amina raises her hand.

Amina: The nominations for next year's student council have begun. The Scott – Blake administrations couldn't be prouder of the things we accomplished this year. With that said, please don't nominate me for president.

Laughter fills the room until Lily storms in furious.

Lily: This is not the play we agreed on!

Alicia: Lily!

Isaiah: You're right. You decided on a play that I disagreed with. It doesn't feel nice when someone cuts you out, does it?

Lily: You did this to be spiteful! I won't be a part of this.

Isaiah: I am perfectly capable of directing this play without you, Lily.

Amina: The play is already approved by Principal Nelson.

Alicia: Perfect. That was the last thing on the agenda. It looks like Degrassi will be putting on its production of Clue: On Stage, directed by our very own Isaiah Luke.

Everyone begins to applaud. Lily becomes even more furious, but she knows she has lost. She storms out of the office without a word. Isaiah takes in the applause feeling accomplished.

Scene 12: Degrassi (Gymnasium). Afternoon

Alicia sneaks into the gymnasium, where Shay is talking to the members of the Power Squad. The squad starts to disperse.

Shay: I don't want to talk about it, Alicia.

Alicia: We both know that's not true.

Shay takes a seat on the bench.

Shay: I know you like talking about your feelings when something happens, but I don't. Of course, I'm upset I'm not graduating, but I can't harp on it.

Alicia takes a seat beside Shay on the bench.

Alicia: You're right. You're not me, but you are my best friend. So I want to make sure you're okay.

Shay: Let's find the guys and have some fun.

Shay and Alicia proceed to exit the gym.

Scene 13: Play Thyme Arcade. Afternoon

Ke'Anna approaches Matthew at the counter with a smile.

Ke'Anna: I can't say enough just how appreciative I am that you got Mr. Chopra to give me a second chance.

Matthew: It's no problem. Let's me find Mr. Chopra.

Matthew goes into the backroom. Meanwhile, Ke'Anna takes a seat as she waits for him to return. Matthew returns with Mr. Chopra.

Mr. Chopra: Matthew told me you've been looking for me.

Ke'Anna rises from her seat. Mr. Chopra notices Ke'Anna's baby bump.

Mr. Chopra: I don't think I can hire you. This is a family establishment. Parents may get the wrong idea of seeing a pregnant teen.

Ke'Anna and Matthew are both in shock.

Ke'Anna: I need this job, Mr. Chopra.

Matthew: Come on, Mr. C!

Mr. Chopra: I'm sorry, but my decision is final.

Mr. Chopra returns to the backroom.

Matthew: I will talk to him.

Ke'Anna: It's okay. You've already done so much to help me.

Matthew: I'm sorry.

Ke'Anna: I should get going.

Ke'Anna makes her way to the exit.

Scene 14: Degrassi (Hallways). Afternoon

Lily approaches and opens her locker. Isaiah is on the opposite end of the hallway walking with Marcel until he notices Lily. Then, he races down the hall.

Lily (agitated): What do you want?

Lily slams her locker shut and starts to walk. Isaiah follows behind.

Isaiah: Has anyone told you that you're very rude.

Lily: Plenty. I take it as a compliment.

Isaiah grabs Lily's arm, which causes her to stop walking.

Isaiah: I think the play can use your unique way of leadership.

Lily: Is that your way of saying bossing people around.

Isaiah: The school already dislikes you, Lily. Don't end the school year as you started it. Be better.

Isaiah turns around, leaving Lily with words for thought.

Lily: Fine! I'll do it.

Isaiah continues to walk but looks over to Lily with a smile.

Scene 15: Degrassi (J.T Memorial Garden). Afternoon

Matthew knocks on the window as he enters the garden where Ke'Anna is eating.

Matthew: I found this mix of a couple of these punk bands. I thought you might want to check it out.

Ke'Anna: Thank you. I'll check it out.

Matthew: I wanted to say sorry again.

Ke'Anna: You don't have to apologize.

Matthew: I spoke with Mr. Chopra, and he said he's willing to give you a chance on a trial basis.

Ke'Anna smiles, hearing the news. Matthew felt good seeing the smile on her face.
