Ooooohhhhhh... whoever is responsible better run for their lives and anyone who knows them better not try to help the traitor(s), or they'll all pay the price as well. Nobody would be able to convince them to spare the person/people responsible for it. Pretty much the only other thing that would assure that you'd have a slow, painful death at their hands, would be to try to kill the entire family, instead of just their baby - and even then, the difference wouldn't be that big; they just don't hold back when it comes to protecting their child/children.
I can see them both feeling very paranoid after the incident, and might lead to Azula having a few relapses and hallucinations. They'd get over it eventually, but it would take a long time. They'd be caring for their kid, making sure they're recuperating well, and would spoil them like crazy for a while.
