Chapter 74
Betty and Veronica are now at Pop's, sitting across from Archie, in a booth at Pop's, talking about the information Betty found on Ms. Grundy.
"Ms. Grundy showed up in Riverdale a year ago, out of thin air." Betty began to explain. "There's no record of her before that. Her Facebook, her LinkedIn account, they were all created one year ago. Before that, she's a ghost. She doesn't exist. The only Geraldine Grundy I could find was a woman who died seven years ago." She hands Archie a photo of an old woman by the name of Geraldine Grundy.
"How…where did you find all this?" Archie asked, stunned, processing the information.
"The deep web. The dark internet," Veronica replied, in a brooding tone. "JK, it's all online. Simple googling." She joked.
"And did you cyber-stalk Ms. Grundy before or after you interviewed her for a fake article?" Archie demanded, on the verge of getting angry.
Betty herself was angry too, but she remained cool as a cucumber.
"Why are you doing this Betty?" Archie questioned, agitated. "I'm not in danger,"
"You don't know that," Betty snapped.
"Yeah, I do, I used to be with her." Archie interrupts. "I know what we had, and you don't."
Betty looks down at the table and rolled her eyes. Looking back up at Archie, she glares at him.
"She taught Jason Blossom, did you know that?" Betty asks.
"She's taught a lot of people Betty, what's your point?" Archie retorted.
Betty was trying to hold back her anger, but Archie's idiocy about the situation only frustrated her further.
"My point is, you don't know anything about her, Archie." Betty shot back. "Doesn't that worry you?!"
"Betty, let this go!" Archie yelled.
Veronica just sat there, watching the two and trying not to say a word.
"Archie, please…" Betty protested, anger in her tone, but Archie interrupts.
"If you're really my friend, you'll let this go." Archie pointed out.
Betty stared at the male red head, wanting to give him a piece of her mind. But instead, anger began to build up inside her, slowly but surely.
"Okay." Betty said quietly, not making eye contact. "I'm sorry, I'm done."
Archie simply raised his eyebrows at her.
"I'll stop digging." She adds, still not looking at him.
Archie stares at the blonde and then at Veronica. Betty nudges Veronica, and Veronica gets up, allowing Betty to get up. Archie starts to say something, but Veronica glares at him and shakes her head; following Betty.
Archie sighs and leaned back, watching the two girls leave, he even notices Veronica wiping away Betty's tears. He sighs.
Meanwhile, back at Riverdale High, Archie goes to Principal Weatherbee about Ms. Grundy.
"The Grundy you've been with is a fraud." Weatherbee informs the teen, spelling it out for him.
"Not you, too!" Archie groaned.
"The real Grundy died years ago." Weatherbee said.
"You're sure?" Archie asked, with a hint of skepticism.
The school principal then proceeds to pull out documentation and shows it as proof.
"They were right the whole time and I was…" Archie said, once realization hit him.
"Blind?" Weatherbee finishes.
"Yeah," Archie clenches his fists in anger. Suddenly, he regretted ignoring Betty's warning and snapping at her about Grundy.
That night, Betty and Veronica ran to Ms. Grundy's car. Betty takes a flat metal object out, to try to unlock the car.
"So much for letting it go," Veronica mumbled. "Are we really breaking into Grundy's car right now?" She asked with worry. "How do you even know how to do that?"
Betty laughs a bit. "My dad and I fix cars together. Thank God, she has an old..." She stops as she opened the car. Veronica looks at her amazed and ran over on the other side.
Betty smirks, getting into the car and leaned over, to opening passenger door for Veronica.
"Okay before going any further, if I'm committing a felony, I need to at least ask the question." Veronica starts to say. "Are you doing this because you still have feelings for Archie, or…" She asks.
"No Veronica, we're doing this because Grundy has Archie under some kind of sexual spell, and he won't listen to reason." Betty responds to the Lodge girl. "We're looking for something that proves that Grundy isn't as clean as she says she is." She added.
The two girls just looked around Holiday's car, when suddenly, a knock on the window startles them. They turned to see Archie standing outside Grundy's car.
Veronica opens the door and gets out, Betty follows. "Archie, what are you doing here?" Veronica asked.
"I came to tell you and Betty, that you were right about Ms. Grundy. And I acted like a blind fool." Archie admitted.
"OK…what made you change your mind?" Betty asks, her tone laced with skepticism and curiosity.
"I went to see Weatherbee and he provided me some information on the real Grundy, and…let's just say some sense got knocked into me." Archie replied.
"You're forgiven, Archiekins;" said Veronica.
"In the meantime, stand guard outside while we continue searching the car." Betty instructed.
"What are you guys looking for?" Archie questioned.
"Proof that Ms. Grundy is not who she says she is. " With that, Betty and Veronica got back inside Grundy's car.
Betty finds a metal box. Pulling it into her lap, she looks at Veronica. "Bobby pin." Betty tells her, holding out her hand to Veronica, and she took one out of her hair.
"Okay, Ms. Gyer." Veronica joked. She gives her bobby pin to Betty and watched her as she wiggled the bobby pin in the lock; and opened the box. Betty looks at Veronica and smiles.
"I learned that from Nancy Drew detective handbook." Betty explained.
"Okay, go." Veronica persuades her to keep looking, while searching the glove compartment.
Betty looked through the box. She pulls out an I.D and looked at it.
"Oh, my God." Betty whispers, and Veronica glances over.
"Oh, my God." Veronica wore a shocked expression, taking the I.D from Betty's hand. "Jennifer Gibson? Who the hell is Jennifer Gibson?" she asked.
Britt searches the box and gasps. "That's not the only thing." She informs Veronica. Slowly, she pulled out a small gun that was in there. Showing it to Veronica, they turned to look at Grundy's house.
"There's another thing I found," Veronica said. She shows Betty a book that was in the glove compartment. Reading, Betty's eyes grew wide.
Time Skip
"Thank God we were in Grundy's car, we found a gun." Veronica remarks.
She, Betty, and Archie were walking towards Archie's house, filling him in on what they found.
"What?" Archie asked, shocked, but stayed calm.
"And an ID with the name Jennifer Gibson," Britt interjected. "This goes to show Ms. Grundy is a fake."
"Then, who is she?" Archie inquired.
"Obviously, some sketch queen named Jennifer Gibson." Veronica said.
"Archie, what if she had something to do with Jason's death?" Betty questions. "She taught him, she made you lie about him, we know she was at the river and she has a gun." she said pointing out the facts.
All Archie could do was to process the information in his head.
"Think about it, Archie." Veronica said. "Jason was her student last year. Everything about her is a huge boldfaced question mark."
Archie simply stayed quiet, mulling over the girls' words. Betty exchanged looks with Veronica. They had done all they could to convince Archie, now it was up to him if he should accept the truth or deny it.
A/N: Whew, at the last the chapter is finished! I hope you all enjoyed it, I did the best I could.
One thing's for sure, I'm looking forward to writing more chapters for the story, in the meantime; I just want to take a little breather so I can update another story of mine.
Up next, we'll check in on Jason & Polly's farm life as newlyweds (montage style) and there's more drama in Riverdale (i.e. Jughead trying to talk Fred out of tearing down the drive-in & Hermione bribing Sierra McCoy with money).
Until then, see you next time!
