The doll in her grip fell between them. She gripped on to his shoulders and cried into his chest. He was surprised but didn't dare complain. He slowly wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her closer into him.
Her whole body was shaking and he felt the need to wrap her more in his embrace. And that he did. She dug her fingers in his shoulders, crying even harder. Since that night, Alya never let her cry. But right now, she was desperate to let it all out.
"He's gone. He's gone forever." She murmured continuously into his chest. He didn't ask anything, he only rubbed her hair with his other hand. Then he played with her pigtails till he slowly pulled out her hair bands.
After a while, her sobs reduced and her body calmed. He enjoyed his fingers through her hair and that's what he kept doing. She was treasuring the moment. Being cocooned in his arms felt so good.
Silence ensued between them, her soft breaths echoing in the room.
She suddenly jerked off him and moved away, realizing what she'd just done, "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to, I shouldn't..."
"No, it's okay, it's..."
"No, it's not. I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have done that, I don't know why..." She suddenly gasped, interrupting herself as she saw the doll on the floor. She picked it up quickly but he saw it. She turned away, feeling embarrassed.
He could've sworn it was a doll of his alter ego. But why would she have it? Or cry holding it? Was he missing something? He then remembered her words from earlier. 'He's gone' What did she mean?
She suddenly stood up and turned away from him. "I'm sorry, Adrien. I..uh.. should go." She tried to go but he was fast. He stood quickly and held her back.
"Who hurt you, Marinette? And what did you mean? Who's gone?" She didn't turn back to him but he wasn't giving up. He walked in front of her and she released her hand from his hold, wrapping the doll in her embrace so he wouldn't see it.
"Who hurt you?" He repeated and walked closer. She stepped bay, surprised at how quickly he was taking her breath away. "Please tell me, I'm your friend, aren't I? I just want to be here for you, let me. Please Mari."
"No one hurt me, Adrien. In fact, I hurt someone. I broke the trust of someone I love very much. And now I lost him." She teared up again as she spoke. "I've lost him for good. He wants nothing to do with me. He was the only one who loved me. With his whole heart. But I took him for granted." Her words broke as she spoke.
She didn't know why she was telling him l this. But it felt better to get it off her chest, "And now... now...I lost him forever." She hugged the doll tightly, but this time, for comfort.
His head spun listening to her words. Why did it sound so agonizingly familiar? Could it be? Was it possible that she was...?
"My kitty is gone forever." She muttered under her breath but the silence let him hear it perfectly. She turned away from him.
"M.. M'lady?" He wished it were true even though he was unsure. It was too good to be true. No matter what happened, he wouldn't be able to stay mad at her if she was his sweet friend also.
She snapped her head in his direction so hard she would've gotten a whiplash. It was all too good for her to believe. He just called her his lady. It had to be him. It was him. It was him along and she'd fallen in love with him twice. For a moment, she couldn't react, letting it all dawn on her.
It was her kitty. And he was here. He was here. With her.
"Kitty.." she murmured in tears. "Kitty!" She lunged at him, throwing her arms around him with a force that brought them both to the ground. She fell on top him, his hand secured on her waist and hers on his chest.
"It's really you." She murmured in disbelief, trying to wrap her head around it as she stared him deep in his emerald eyes. It all made sense.
His other hand wiped her tears and moved to arrange her strat hair behind her ear. He couldn't believe it. Did his withdrawal affect her that way? She cared that much? He could feel his heart flutter in his chest. "I'm so...sorry, cat. I didn't mean to...I'm really so..."
Her words caught in her throat as he pulled her down to meet his lips. Her brain short-circuited the moment his lips met hers and her eyes fluttered close like impulse. She held his face as he tenderly moved his lips against hers.
When he had kissed her that night, she felt her body race with chills and her heart light up fireworks. But right now, she felt something different. Warmth as their breaths mixed. The world melted away, just the two of them in the little bubble.
He pulled her in closer, she tasted, soft, sweet and everything felt right. For the first time, everything felt right.
He carefully sat upright, holding her up with him but not once breaking the kiss. He positioned them such that he was sitting on the floor and she was in between his legs, one arm cradling her and the other tangled in her soft curls.
They finally pulled apart after a long while and rested their foreheads on each other. Their warm breaths mingled as they tried to catch their lost air.
"I love you so much, bugaboo."
Their gazes locked and she could feel the intensity of the love his green pools held. All for her? How did she get so lucky? Even after what she'd done, here he was making her feel like the only girl in the world.
"I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have left you."
"Are you kidding? I should be the one apologizing." She ran her fingers through his hair, "I broke my promises to you. I was a terrible partner and friend. Horrible." She covered her face with both hands.
He carefully removed her hands from her face. "But in the end, you are a wonderful kisser." She blushed deep red and he dipped his head to give her a quick kiss.
"So you're not mad anymore?"
"I would've sacrificed anything to have this moment with you, m'lady." She rested in his embrace and he cradled her. They stayed silent, basking in each other's warmth. "Kitty?"
"Yes, bugaboo."
"I forgot to tell you." She murmured into his neck, tickling his skin with her warm breaths. "What?"
"I love you too."
He immediately snapped up and she looked up to see him surprised. His mouth hung open slightly. She bopped his nose, "What's the matter, kitty cat? Cat caught your tongue?" She helped close his mouth and giggled, "We wouldn't want bugs in there now would we?" She smirked at him.
If it were possible to love her anymore than he did then yes, in that moment, he fell a thousand times more in love with her. He kissed her again, too happy to contain his emotions.
"But..." He thought back, "But what about the...the guy you um.. said you loved?" His voice reduced as he spoke.
She smiled at his cluelessness, he still hadn't figured it out. "Well yeah, I still love him. Very much." She watched his face drop at her words.
His mind immediately went to Luka. He sighed. Even if she didn't choose him, he'd still be happy for her.
"Actually, this guy is quite...let's say popular. But you see, that's not why I love him. His dad had always been my favorite designer and he always modelled for him but I never knew him." Adrien swallowed thickly. Could she be talking about him?
"Sure, he's goodlooking and you know,..hot." She smirked as his ears tinged pink. "People practically drool over him. But he's not the first handsome teenager. It was something else that made him fall for him. I actually hated him when I first met him because I thought he put gum on my seat." She gestured with her hands and watched as his expression morphed into surprise.
"But then he apologized and he gave me his umbrella. That very evening, I felt something out of the ordinary. I saw his heart, his kindness, his love. And in that moment, I realized that my life wouldn't make any sense if he weren't in it." She locked her gazes with him as she spoke the last words.
He was beyond surprised. She had loved him. All this time, she'd loved him. But he was tok stupid to see him. How did he get so lucky? "Princess." He cupped her cheeks lovingly.
"I love you, Adrien. I always have." She rested her forehead on his.
"So then I was right." He spoke, suddenly feeling oeuvre confident. "Right about what?"
"You did find me irresistible under the mask." He gave her that cheeky grin that made her blush furiously. It was still wierd knowing quiet and well-behaved Adrien was her flirty kitty. But she fell for all of him and only that mattered.
"And um..with the mask too." She murmured.
"Seriously, you...you loved Catnoir too?"
"It took a while to realize but yeah, it was in the letter. Didn't you read it?"
"I didn't want to." He admitted and brought it out of his jacket pocket, "Then when I did, I didn't have the courage to." He slowly unfolded the paper.
My kitty,
I'm so sorry for the pain I've caused you. I don't deserve your forgiveness. I don't deserve you back in my life and I understand if you don't ever want to see me again. But that doesn't mean I accept it. I'm too selfish to accept it.
I want you back. I need you back in my life.
I've been such an idiot and I know it's the absolute wrong time to say things but I realized how much you mean to me. I love you.
And it isn't just to get you back, I really mean it.
Please don't go. Give us a chance. Please. I don't deserve you but I want to be stubborn, I must have you back.
I love you now and forever. I'll probably never stop. I love you without limits.
Your lady.
He could feel his eyes water in happiness. His heart exploding over and over again. He hadn't felt that much emotion in a long time. And he realized, it was impossible to picture his life without her in it.
She was his beating heart, his next breath and his home. She was his home.
"Black cats are bad luck, how did I get so lucky?"
"I love you so much." He murmured and pressed his lips to hers.
"I love you more." She smiled but he nodded in negation.
"No, bugaboo. Nothing on earth can compare to how much I love you. Nothing at all. I love you now and forever." He cradled her in his arms.
"I love you limitlessly."
